What are some non hormonal birth control methods?
I am not interested in condoms. My husband and I do not use them and would rather take a risk then use them!
I have a 6 month old baby and although another pregnancy wouldn’t be a terrible thing we want to wait a while longer. I have been using the nuva ring since 6 weeks postpartum but have been having bad side effects. We have decided that I need to leave my hormones alone and just take a more natural route. Looking for ideas! I will be seeing my doctor on the 27th to discuss this with him as well. Thanks ladies!!
Michelle answers:
Other than condoms I can’t think that there are many. How about spermicides? Or a cap, which is a barrier method in which a doctor inserts a convex cap that sits in the vagina right at the entrance to the cervix, where it cannot be felt by either partner, at any time.

I am in the same position you are. I have a 7 month old baby and an 18 month old toddler and I just got Mirena taken out after having it in for 6 months. I got it removed because I was having ALOT of pelvic pain and I ended up in the ER, and they told me I had chlamydia(which there is NO WAY possible I did) and it ended up being I didnt have chylamydia I had gotten PID from the darn mirena. So I strongly advise against this method. Also I strongly advise against Depo because the hormones in that serverly mess with your system also. I would try the calander tracking. I am actually trying this now and so far so good! They actually sell tests at Wal-Mart that can tell you what part of the month you ovulate. I dislike condoms very much and the calander tracking may not be as oops proof as hormonal methods but at least you arent messing with your natural cycle and having the god awful side effects. Also since you said it wouldnt be terrible to get pregnant again the do the calander tracking and just use condoms around the time you ovulate!

Due next week, any ‘natural’ tips to help avoid inducement again?
I’m having my third child, due next week and would really like to avoid being induced if at all possible. I have been induced with both previous pregnancies. Head is engaged, I have all the usual uncomfortable symptoms at this stage. Don’t get much chance to rest with a 4 and 2 year old. I’ve heard of all the usual recommendations, curry, sex, raspberry tea, pineapple, walking and more recently ‘nipple tweaking’. Does anyone have any suggestions that have worked for them? Also, I’ve been told that you won’t necessarily be induced if this is your previous history. Any thoughts appreciated.
Michelle answers:
I tried the pineapple one but there was no way I could eat so many of them. I think your supposed to eat 7 or 8 of them!
Eating a curry will help you feel pain (so not such a great idea).
Sex is thought to work because semen contains substances called prostaglandins or something, but in studies it hasn’t worked at all.
There are some studies that suggest that accupuncture works. Maybe you could give that a try. (I was too scared of the needles)
all the best xx

Lizzie asks…
all signs show blighted ovum, what do u think?
I am pretty sure my last period was sometime btwn Jan 10-16. Not sure of the exact date but, I remember it being sometime during this week. I had u/s on wed, which would have been either 4 wks and 2 days along, or 5 wks and 2 days depending on actual conception date. This u/s showed what she thought was a sac but nothing else. the tech said that it may have been too early to see anything and to not be worried. Fri I went to restroom to find (TMI) a smear of blood when I wiped and a very small odd shape glob with a little white in it(no bigger than a nickel). I went to er and they did an u/s. They said they did not see a baby or a sac. My hcg level was 1000 according to the blood test. The dr said it was a “threatened miscarriage” and to follow up with my dr on mon for another blood test to see if the hcg level is going up or down. At that time I still had no bleeding or cramps. On sat night I started cramping lightly but still no bleeding. Today I have had severe abdominal cramps but still no blood other than another small smear when I wipe. My concern is after everything I have read on natural miscarriages, etopic pregnancies, and blighted ovums….monday will be a nightmare. I have posted a prior question regarding all of this and someone else suggested I should prepare myself for the blighted ovum. I am 30 and this is my 3rd pregnancy. My 1st two resulted in a 12 yr old and a 10 yr old. I am blessed for those two and accept that maybe this is not meant to be but, I am concerned that when I go to the dr tomorrow, they will suggest a d&c and I don’t want to be another case of misdiagnosed miscarriage. Any advice is greatly appreciated! Keep your fingers crossed……
I don’t know if it matters but, I do want to add that I have always experienced horrible morning sickness with my other two children and with this pregnancy, I have had none.
Michelle answers:
I had a blighted ovum last year. I knew it wasn’t right….I had no morning sickness, and really no symptoms. It went on for almost 3 months before they finally gave me a d&c.I do think that it is a blighted ovum. You can wait it out and wait another couple weeks by then even if your dates are wrong,in a few weeks there should be at least a fetal pole, yolk sac,and possibly even a heartbeat.Let the doc know that you aren’t comfortable with doing a d&c just yet. Then they should listen to you.Best wishes and good luck!
