Your Questions About The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Ken asks…

I’m having my baby in a birthing centre…..?

Okay I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant with a baby girl 🙂 I already have a 5 year old son and I had him in a birthing centre and with this pregnancy I am also giving birth in a birthing centre, which means no drugs, so it is going to be a natural birth drug free. I am also wanting a water birth my midwife has done heaps of them so I feel very comfortable with doing this.

My main question is, what advice would you like to give me to prepare myself? It has been a long time since the birth of my son, all I really remember was that I was in a lot of pain but afterwards I felt great. I’m staring to get nervous and really would like advice to help with my anxiety of giving birth without pain relief again.
Thanx so much

Michelle answers:

I had a water birth…. I can’t imagine giving birth any other way. It helped so much, and my second stage labour was only about 20 minutes. I’m sure this was largely due to the bath!

(As long as you don’t get in too early, in which case it will slow things down. But your midwife would know that…)

The other things that really helped me was aromatherapy (hubby wafting a tube under my nose between contractions!) and deep breathing. (I did a hypno-birthing course, but the main thing is to breath deeply – no shallow breathing) If you can find a book called ‘The Mongan Method’ it will help, or if you’re in Sydney, below is where I did my course.

Congratulations on choosing (again) a natural birth! You’ll be fine… Just stay relaxed, talk to your baby and enjoy the tub! Best of luck 🙂

Lizzie asks…

when to expect AF after miscarriage?

Hi. I had a m/c on the 5th of this month. I was 6 weeks 1 day. It was natural, I didn’t need a D&C. This pregnancy was diff. than my other three which produced 3 living children ( my boys), as my symptoms were very mild the whole time and they were not really getting stronger…at least not much anyway. I bled for 6 days and my symptoms were all gone by the time I quit bleeding. I didn’t have any bloodwork done, my DR. pretty much just gave me warning signs to look for and that was all.
We are eager to get back to ttc. We had been trying for 2 years. I am just wondering when I might expect AF? I usually have pms, but I have had none so far that would signal AF coming? Has anyone else been in this situation who might give me an idea of when I might expect it?
It is crazy..for 2 years I DREADED old AF coming, now I wish she would just hurry up and get here. I think I’m insane.
Thanks

Michelle answers:

I had a miscarriage when I was 7 weeks along, and I didn’t need a D&C. I bleed for 5 or 6 days after my miscarriage and my doctor said that my period should come within 28 days of my miscarriage (my regular cycle).

He administered me a pregnancy test, which was negative, and I went home. So basically, I considered the bleeding after my m/c like my period.. And expected to have a normal period.. But my period never came..

35 days later I went back to the doctor to see if something was wrong… I’ve always been “on time” and it should have came on the 28th day, it was now day 35. I was impatient you might say =)

He administered me another pregnancy test, and it was positive. He told me I had already conceived again & that I was pregnant. In which, I was. They gave me an early ultrasound to see if I was indeed carrying a “new” baby.. And I was.

It was a shocker, needless to say, but my son is almost 3 years old now. I’m sorry to hear about your loss.. It’s reccommended that you wait 3 months after a m/c.. But your AF should be here (if your cycle is “normal”) in 2 or 3 days.

I’m currently ttc now, and if I don’t “feel” pregnant, I really wish for my AF to show up quickly so I can start a new cycle & a new try! It’s normal to feel like you’re feeling.. “I want to see my period” — “I don’t want to see my period” … Ups and downs. Good luck ttc~
