Your Questions About Natural Remedies Pregnancy Sickness

Paul asks…

Ideas to ease morning sickness?

I am almost 8 weeks pregnant. This is my second pregnancy and I have severe morning sickness. The first time around, I think I felt nauseated maybe 2 or 3 times. With this pregnancy, I feel sick all day, every day. I have tried those pregnancy pops, this natural “morning sickness” tea, and ginger ale. They seem to help temporarily but I am in desperate need of some relief. I have a 3 yr old and I feel terrible because I am moping around all day. I also haven’t made an actual real dinner in a week. The smell of food and just standing up for any period of time makes it too hard.

If anyone has had any luck with other remedies I would be very grateful.

Michelle answers:

I know that people suggested Saltine crackers and that made me sick every time I tried it. The only thing that helped me was nibbling on animal crackers throughout the day!!!

I hope you feel better! Just remember the end result!

Donald asks…

Having an abortion due to severe morning sickness?

I’d like to start out with this is NOT me, and it’s no one I know close or personally, it’s about an interesting article I read a while ago, and I’m currently searching for the link (with no luck! But still searching).

A woman, in her late 20’s is married with a 2 year old son. With her first pregnancy (which was planned), she experience minimal morning sickness, throwing up a few times a week, but it was bearable .
She and her husband planned a second child, but with the second pregnancy, she experience morning sickness so bad she was throwing up up to 27 times a day, that’s more than once an hour.

She tried every conceivable medical and natural remedy, with absolutely nothing working. She was admitted to hospital every 2 days, due to dehydration and significant drop in weight. She had no family close, and so her 2 year old son would have to accompany her on her hospital visits. The husband works away, a 2 weeks working, 2 weeks home sort of deal, and was unable to take of time he needed, when he eventually did manage to take time off, he lost his job, and they were unable to afford their health insurance. They were able to apply for emergency insurance, but in that gap still managed to rack up a hospital bill of thousands.

Due to being so sick, and unable to care for her first child, she with doctors encouragement chose to have an abortion.

I’m not here saying I agree, or disagree with her choice, and I’m not necessarily asking people to say she was right or wrong, but what do you think you would do in the situation?
If I remember correctly the abortion was done at around 14 weeks, after the 12 week ‘cut off’ which made the story more controversial.
She tried waiting until 12 weeks with doctors saying the sickness may ease up, obviously to no avail.

And I am not here to thumbs up, or thumbs down anyone I agree or disagree with, I’m just interest to know opinions!

Michelle answers:

I was really sick during my pregnancy too. But in the end it was all worth it. She still had all the bills and no doubt later losing her child will seem worse then the medical bills.

Daniel asks…

combination of B6 and unisom to fight Morning sickness?

has anyone used this remedy? I just got off the phone with my doctors office and this is what they are suggesting I take to help as a first step if it doesn’t work she will prescribe zofran in the morning… I’m a little worried about taking it.

FYI this is my 3rd pregnancy morning sickness with my first to made me loose 10 lbs the first time and 5lbs with my 2nd… no weight gain till almost 20weeks. I’m familar with all the old school natural remedys and have used all of them and nothing is working.

Michelle answers:

I have heard of this combination, but have not used it myself. Just be careful as Unisom is a sleep aid so it will make you tired.

Good luck!

Michael asks…

I am miserable with this pregnancy symptom! Please help?

I am 13 weeks pregnant and the gas/bloating is still terrible. Sometimes I’m so bloated and uncomfortable and ill feeling, that I cannot eat dinner at night and just go to bed with a belly full of air. I have tried:

1. Beano and Gas-X – no relief at all
2. Exercise to get things moving
3. Eating small meals throughout the day
4. Cutting out fried foods
5. Wearing loose clothes and staying upright after meals

Nothing is working. And please don’t tell me to avoid certain other foods b/c with my morning sickness my doctor just told me to eat what I can.

Does anyone have ANY other remedy I haven’t tried?? Other natural enzymes besides Beano that might work? I am in misery!

Michelle answers:

I am feeling this way, too. My midwife suggested papaya enzymes so I’m going to try that.

Also, you might be more sensitive to dairy, even if you normally aren’t when not pregnant. Try cutting back on (not eliminating) dairy for just one day and see if that makes a difference.

If you are drinking carbonated beverages like Sprite or 7-up (to ease morning sickness) keep them cold in the fridge and let them go flat before drinking. That will greatly reduce feelings of bloating.

Last of all, check your posture. I know it sounds weird, but if you tend to slouch a lot this can cramp and slow down the bowels trapping gas in your belly. Even if you are tired or feeling sick, make sure you have good posture whenever you are sitting or standing.
