Richard asks…
I really need some help about herbs in a “women in balance” supplement, and pregnancy?
I had a baby almost 8 months ago, and ever since then my hormones have been really of out it, and earlier this month i bought some supplements from a place called “Herbal Healer”, called “Women in Balance”… Its all natural, and for all women of all ages.
Well, i started spotting about 13 dpo, and never started my period.Meanwhile, im still taking these supplements..Till last thursday, when i kinda suspected i *might* be pregnant.
Last friday, sunday and monday, i took 4 pregnancy tests and all came out dark positives.
Here is what’s in them..
Soy Isoflavones, Kava Kava, Wild Yam Extract, Licorice4:1 extract, Dong Quai powder, Red Raspberry powder, Black cohosh extract, chasteberry, ginger root powder, red clover and Ginkgo standardized extract.
Does anyone know if any of these would make a positive pregnancy test result? or am i really pregnant? i asked my naturopath dr, and she said they shouldnt, but stop taking them and test again next week… what do yall think? Thanks!
Michelle answers:
There’s nothing in the listed ingredients that could cause a false positive, however false positives do exist. Obviously if it was a false positive your hCG (the most commonly tested pregnancy hormone) level would likely be elevated (as opposed to 4 bad tests)
You could have a lab test done where they look for an early pregnancy factor protein (EPF, differenct from hCG), but if you think you’re pregnant, you’re probably pregnant.
Also, hCG, which is detected by commercial stick tests should only be elevated if you’re pregnant, on a cocktail of anabolic steroids, or have a tumor. So… You’re pregnant.
David asks…
Can I Be Pregnant? When should i test? Please Help Me?
I had a natural miscarriage that started 8/2 ( i was 4 weeks). I stopped bleeding by 8/7. On 8/11 my HCG hormone was back to zero (because i didn’t have any complications my ob/gyn said i can try to conceive as soon as the bleeding stopped). I brought a digital ovulation test because it is very important for me to conceive again. I got a LH surge on 8/21 and on 8/22 when i tested again i did not have a surge. On 8/21 & 8/22 my husband and i had sex. What are my chances that i conceived? And how soon can i take a pregnancy test? If i’m not pregnant when should i expect a period.
p.s we also had sex on every other day since 8/12. PLEASE HELP ME.
Michelle answers:
You have about a 25% chance of conceiving every month if no fertility issues are present.
You should have your period around Sept 5th.
Daniel asks…
My dr. put me on provera, does this prevent pregnancy?
I have not had a natural period since the beginning of march. Thinking that I might be pregnant, I was not worried. In June i went to see my dr. and she put me on provera,(which is a hormone pill used to regulate the menstrual cycle) for 10 days. At the beginning of June i had my period, now it is the middle of August and I have not had my period yet. My boyfriend and I have taken 5 pregnancy test, and they all were negative. I am really nervous because provera is not to be taken if you are pregnant or trying to get pregnant. I have not had any abdominal or back pain or had any pregnancy symptoms. What is the problem?
Michelle answers:
You should not be taking provera if you are trying to get pregnant. If you need to take provera then you should make sure that you use protection during sex. Ingestion of provera during the early stages of pregnancy can cause fetal harm. You need to discuss this matter with your Dr and come up with a treatment plan that is in line with your goals.
Why should Provera not be prescribed?
Provera should never be taken during pregnancy. Avoid it if you even suspect you’re pregnant. Doctors once prescribed Provera as a test for pregnancy, but no longer do so for 2 reasons:
Quicker, safer pregnancy tests are now available.
If you are in fact pregnant, Provera might injure the baby.

Laura asks…
Is cervical mucus a sign of pregnancy?
My period is due in 3 days, I ovulated on the 10th, and baby dance occured on the 9th-12th. (We are TTC.)
I am extremely regular in my cycles (you can set a clock by my period and ovulation schedules), and I chart my cervical mucus (natural family planning). The only cervical mucus visible in my cycles NORMALLY is at ovulation time.
As far as other signs go, I’ve had DEFINITE lower back pain, mild abdominal cramps (similar to menstruation cramps), a little bit of nausea (could have been wishful thinking though), slight darkening of areolas, and I know it sounds crazy, but I just “feel” pregnant. I’ve read a lot on that, but I took a pregnancy test (Early First Response…the lines indicator) yesterday and one this morning. Both negatives, so I’m afraid some or all of this is wishful thinking. Then a bit ago, I had creamy white cervical mucus followed by clear ovulation-type mucus the next time I went to the bathroom. This has NEVER happened in one of my cycles before (mucus outside of my ovulation time). What gives?
Only serious answers please.
Michelle answers:
Yes! Cervical mucus was a deffinate sign for me!
My ovulation was on the 7th. And we baby dance every other day all month for safe measure 😉
My LMP was on 4/20.
In the last 10 or so days I had a lot of “symptoms” but I have been TTC for so long that I always get symptoms that I just self induce!
But in the last 10 days I also experienced a LOT of cm. Just a general wet feeling down there 24/7.
This was my deffinate reason to believe we did it this month because this never happened before… And sure enough I FINALLY got my BFP today!!!!! At one day late of AF!
🙂
So to answer your question yes…sorry I am just so happy I want to tell everyone we finally got that BFP!!!
I am wishing you TONS of baby dust!!!!!
