Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Products

Mary asks…

Why do Burt’s Bees Belly butter and Weleda’s Pregnancy Body Oil have Vit A as an active ingredient?

Since it’s not known whether topical vitamin A can cause birth defects, does anyone find it disconcerting that these companies would put vitamin A in products targeted to pregnant women?

Curiously, Burt’s bees no longer has the belly butter listed on their website, only listing the Vit A free pregnancy body oil but here is the cache

Fnookleberry- I just wrote to Weleda and asked them about it. I’m very curious about Burt’s Bees reasoning, since they have at least 2 no-no ingredients.
Hi Sweetheart,
Actually, they are very sneaky about the Vitamin A content. In all of their other products, they list retinyl palmitate as being Vitamin A in brackets afterwards but on their pregnancy cream they don’t specify that it is actually vit A. I’m sure it’s not accident.

Michelle answers:

That’s a good question! It really makes me wonder why they would put products like that in something for pregnant women since it is widely known that too much Vit A is NOT good and we are recommended to NOT even use topical products with it in it!

It also makes me wonder why some products geared toward pregnant women also contain rosemary extract which is also a no-no during pregnancy.

Maybe someone complained about that belly butter and that’s why it isn’t there anymore! Hopefully! They should really research stuff befre making something! I hope you get a good answer!

Maria asks…

What cosmetics can be used during pregnancy?

I am not sure what face/body/hair products are considered safer to use during pregnancy. At the moment I am using Clinique and L’oreal, should I change to all natural options? If so, has anyone heard of Korres?

Michelle answers:

The only thing you should try to avoid is bleaches for your hair, and over scented bubble baths, ( they pose a risk of causing an infection )

Joseph asks…

does any use jericho product from dead sea? do you think it is safe to use in pregnancy?

i had been introduced to use jericho cosmetic such as foaming facial srub, moisturizing cream and mineral serum, they said it’s a natural product. has anyone use this before. do you think it is safe to use while you are pregnant? As they told me that i can use but i just want to be safe for my unborn baby, Thanks

Michelle answers:

On the one hand I also heard that the dead sea products are safe while pregnant, on the other hand I know from experience that you should not go(they dont recommend you ),to swim in the dead sea while pregnant, or go into the mud baths. So rather play it safe, and spoil yourself after the pregnancy, its not that long.
Good luck with the pregnancy
