Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Paul asks…

From how many weeks pregnant can you use Clary Sage Oil?

I am 35 weeks pregnant and have been told about Clary Sage Oil being a natural way to get things started near your due date; however no one seems to be able to confirm from how many weeks I can use it. I am aware of all the precautions needed; any one else used it to induce natural labour? This is my third full term pregnancy and I was hospital induced with my other two; I want to avoid induction this time.

Thanks to anyone who offers their opinion.

Michelle answers:

I’ve not heard of it, but I wouldn’t start using it until I was considered full term, which in the UK is 37 weeks.. Just in case. Good luck 🙂

Helen asks…

Induction after previous C-Section?

I had a failed induction with my daughter at 36 weeks which lead to an emergency c-section. Apparently this pregnancy (I’m only 6 weeks now) will go much the same (birth needed at about 36 weeks).
I’ve heard a rumour that it is unlikely I will be allowed to have another induction due to my previous c-section… does anyone have any info or experience with this?
Will I likely have another c-section? (I doubt I’ll be able to go into natural labour)
Thanks!

Michelle answers:

I had an emergency c section 11 weeks ago after failed induction at 40 weeks.

At follow up appointment we discussed more children. If i fall pregnant within the next 12 months, it’s definitely a c section, after 18 months, its safe to try vaginal birth but could possibly end in an emergency c section.

My Obs sees no reason why i should not naturally go into labour next pregnancy, my body just didn’t respond well to the induction.

Depends on your Obs/Gyn and their views opinions on vaginal birth after c section. It also depends how long since your last pregnancy/c section.

My obs told me it takes 12-18 months after a c section for uterus to heal fully and lower risk of rupturing uterus during labour if i want to try for vaginal birth. She would only consider vaginal birth after this time line, anything before this is automatically a c section for my safety, baby’s safety and her insurance/liability.

But if your pregnancy needs to end at 36 weeks and the bubs ain’t ready to greet the world then, its definitely induction or c section.

Good luck.

Steven asks…

so tommorow she is going 2 schedule me 4 an induction?

so will i get 2 pick the time or do they? and will it hopefully be next couple of days, or for next week? I am now 6 days overdue and will be exactly one week overdue tommorow. I go to kaiser permanente an hmo and they have a policy where they dont allow you with their consent to go more than a week and a half past due date evn with a healthy pregnancy. I actually dont care about going natural at this point bc I’m so uncomfy and done being pregnant.
and bc I’m not at all dialated and only 20 percent effaced and high up still will they first give me a gel for my cervix? will they likely do that at the clinic and have me go to the hospital later, or will they likely send me to the hospital for that too, as part of the whole induction?

Michelle answers:

I was induced with my second at 38 weeks. I got to pick the day but not the time. I went into the hospital at about 3 or 4 on a Wednesday evening and the nurse applied the gel. The next morning at about 6 am I was woken and told to shower. After that I was put on the IV for potocin (spelling?) and had my son almost 7 hours later. I was not dilated at all, nor effaced, when I went in to the hospital.
But it could be different for you as you have a different doctor and all than I had.
Good luck to you!! And may your labor & delivery be easy!

Mark asks…

I’m scheduled for an induction, but I don’t want one?

My doctor wants me to come in for an induction on monday night, I will be 39 weeks pregnant at that time…because he doesn’t want to risk me going into labor and being just under an hour from the hospital. I asked him his induction rate, he said for first time moms about 10 percent…and for second time moms 30-40 percent. He claims they are all for diabetes, big babies, pregnancy complications…distance…etc. I don’t believe him. And I have a feeling that even though it would be nice to have my baby, that I will regret it later, that I will feel like a failure for not letting my body do it on it’s own. He also breaks the water right away…so there is no turning back. I wanted to labor at home for as long as I could, and then go in and have a natural birth, with no meds. And I know that inductions are more painful, and I just don’t know if I’ll be strong enough to go through it. Please help me, I am just stumped, don’t know what to do. Any insight would be wonderful!
Oh, I do have gestational diabetes, but it is controlled with diet. The baby is about 7 pounds right now…so definetely not too large, as my daughter was 8 lbs 4.3 oz. I have been severely sick with both pregnancies, and have only gained 4 pounds because of constant nausea and vomiting. Who wouldn’t want to have the baby early? I just have a bad feeling about it. I don’t want to end up in a c-section because he broke my water and I end up not progressing in time. I’m clear of any other complications…no group b strep, no STD’s, no normal health problems…perfectly healthy… Please help!

Michelle answers:

If the baby seems fine, I would refuse the induction. It sucks to be flat on your back with drugs running through your veins.
