Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Donald asks…

Did natural inductions work for you?

I was just wondering if anyone used methods to induce themselves (sex, nipple stimulation, walking etc.) how long you did it for, what week in pregnancy you were and if it worked!?

My doctor pretty much told me I had to have the baby out or they were going to induce me, and while I can refuse, I was told that if I put it off longer than they were willing to do that I would have to find another doctor to deliver the baby – and at this point it’s kind of hard to find a doctor.

Thanks!
There is no medical reason, all they said was “we don’t like women to go over their due date at all.” and when I said that it was perfectly fine to wait a week or two after the due date they told me that their policy was to induce before the due date and if I didn’t agree to it, they wouldn’t agree to be there during the labor.
and at this point it’s pretty difficult to go out and find a doctor, so either I would show up at the ER and have some random doctor deliver the baby or go with the people I have been seeing for the last 9 months
being medically induced IS much different. The chemicals in the drugs block out the natural coping mechanisms in the woman’s body, the contractions last longer and stronger than normal contractions, and if ineffective a c-section is necessary due to the stress they then put on the baby.

I JUST asked the exact same question! ;o) lol..Im 37 weeks with my third
With Baby #1 I went to the doctor on a Monday, he said I was 1c dilated and secheduled my inducement for me to go in on Thursday night and have her Friday morning.. I had sex Tuesday night at 6pm and went right into labor.. Had her at 6:18 Wed morning!
With Baby#2 I was induced =( Tried EVERY SINGLE at home remdie (excpept castor oil) and NOTHING worked for me… I had both of my girls one day after their due date.
With #3, current pregnancy, my midwife says she wants to induce in 2 more weeks because he is already a big baby boy. I neither want to be induced, and kno i can refuse but i dont want to risk c-section because of his size.
Try going to the mall, walking for as LONG as you can HANDLE. Go home, try nipple stimulation on and off for a couple hours and have SEX ;o) Hopefully it’ll work better for you then it did for me with my second. Im not trying any at home remedies for another week, so wish me luck too please!! =)

Robert asks…

am 41 weeks pregnant am going to be induce on thursday november 18 this is my second pregnancy i had natural?

labour with my first, am hearing some bad things about induction and its really getting me scared i dont know what to really look forward to because i have never been induce before so i need to know if inducing labour is more painful than natural birth? or does inducing labour comes with a c- section? am also not feeling any pain in my tummy or my back the only pain am feeling every now and again is in my groin and sometimes it makes my vagina hurt so its hard for me to walk or even stand up.am so anxious can some one pls tell me all you know about inducing labour and if it is something bad i should worry about.

Michelle answers:

I’ve had all of my labors induced or helped along with pitocin. While it can sometimes be more painful, the contractions (at least for me) were more productive.
Don’t be scared about inducing, but whatever is medically relevant is what will happen. You may get a c-section, you may not. My births were as natural as possible and i had 3 healthy safe deliveries with inductions.
Be safe!

Laura asks…

More likely to have C-Section with induction?

I am being induced Friday 13th with Cervidil. This is my second pregnancy, the first was natural no induction no pain meds and no c-section. I was wondering if its more likely to have a c-section with an induction…. i am so scared to be induced and even more scared to have a c-section. So anyone with real info please help!
btw i am also 1-2 cms dilated but my cervix is sitting so high above babys head that its very difficult for them to check for dilation… will this pose a problem as well?

Michelle answers:

There is always the risk of a c-section with induction for two main reasons…they have broken the amniotic sac which means baby has to be born soon or the baby goes into fetal distress from the medications. Otherwise if the induction fails but the above two things don’t happen your doctor may decide to give it another week or two depending on baby and mother’s condition.
If it helps at all from very personal experience the induction was far worse then the c-section. I was induced the first time around since my water had broke but I was no where near going into labor. No contractions no dialating….nada. Given IV pitocin which is an evil evil drug that works very well at causing intense strong contractions. Had an epidural at 3 cm since I couldn’t stand it anylonger. Well long story short we ended up in fetal distress so they increased the dose even higher and topped off the epidural and told me to push and don’t stop. Son was born and I ended up rushed down to the operation room to stop internal bleeding.
Had a planned c-section with my daughter 4 years later. Granted the first 48 hours was a bit harder since they don’t let you out of bed the first day but I healed much faster and was able to breastfeed immediately after delivery. My son never did breastfeed even though I tried for 2 months…It took the doctor telling me it was formula or he wouldn’t survive that made me finally give up.
In the end the best advice I can give you is with the induction make sure they have an anesthesiologist on site before they start the pitocin. That way if you decide you need it they will be only a few minutes away instead of an hour or more away(found that out the hard way). It doesn’t truly matter how baby gets here as long as both baby and mom are healthy in the end.

Paul asks…

Natural labour and induction?

In your experiences if you went into labour naturally the first time did you go into labour naturally the 2nd time, likewise if you had to be induced the first time where you induced the second time, I know all pregnancies are different so please don’t give me that, this is purely out of interest

Michelle answers:

You never know what’s going to happen-my second baby came easily but my first I got induced which ended up in a Csection.

Typically labor comes easier with the second and third…and so on.
