Ken asks…
From your experiences, which is better, a c-section or a natural pregnancy?
My close friend just found out she was pregnant and asked me which one she should get and I don’t really know what to tell her because I can’t give birth because of medical issues, I adopted my child, I’d also myself like to know which is better. If you have had both or known someone who has had their pregnancy both ways please tell me which you’d prefer. Thanks so much!

I recently had my first child in Sept…and I was in the same boat during my pregnance…I couldn’t decide whether to go natural or have a c-section….I just couldn’t imagine pushing a child through that tiny hole…lol…I asked everyone and they all told me the same thing…go with the natural childbirth…we’re made to give birth…With C-sections, it takes more time to recover and you also end up with a nasty looking scar most of the time…Hope this helps!

Chris asks…
Is natural pregnancy an option?
I just found out I am pregnant and would like to go to the doctor. But i don’t want shots, drawing of my blood,or an exam.Do they give you this option at a normal prenatal clinic or is this just the things you are required to do.I am already taking a prenatal vitamin and eat very healthy.
Michelle answers:
As the patient, you have the right to refuse any diagnostics and treatment that you don´t want, for any reason.
However, I would advise against this. Doing these tests is the only way to assure that your baby is growing the way he or she should, as well as making sure that you as well as the baby are, and continue to stay, healthy. If something is wrong, but it is caught early enough, your doctor may be able to correct the problem; but if you don´t have the necessary tests to diagnose it, the doc would never know and you´ll be putting you or your baby´s wellbeing at risk.
My advice is to go ahead with exams and blood tests at a minimum: you can refuse any shots and additional treatments unless the life or health or you and/or the baby are in danger (which, you won´t know unless you have the exams!) But keep in mind that your baby´s health and wellbeing should take priority, which may mean doing exams, bloodwork, etc.
Also, if you are planning on having a ¨natural¨ delivery, you might consider drawing up a birth plan well in advance of your due date to take with you when you go into labor. Outline what kinds of treatments you want and what kinds of treatments that you don´t want (pain meds, meds to induce or augment labor, c-section, episiotomy, etc). Keep in mind, however, that if there is some sort of emergency during labor/delivery, your wishes may not be carried out to the fullest if your life or that of your baby is endangered.
Have a happy and healthy pregnancy and enjoy motherhood!

Carol asks…
If there was a natural way to avoid pregnancy would you use it?
I teach natural family planning, the billings method, I am surprized that more people dont use this method of birth regulation. Its 98–99.5% effective, with no side effects, because its natural. You can learn more about this at www.familyplanning.net and I have a yahoo group, http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NFP_BillingsMethod/
Let me know what you think…
