How can i make my fistgrader son enjoy homework?
My son is 6 years old and is on first grade, his teacher is alway complaining to my wife about my son behavior, he is distracted and defiant to adults in class never finish his work, he make careless mistakes, my wife is always yelling at him, takes 5 hours to make homework because he is distracted and really don’t like anything related to school, i love him, and i don’t know how to make him to enjoy
school, please help me.
Michelle answers:
Dubya– That is the most dummest advice I have ever heard. Don’t tell that child that it is not meant to be enjoyed or that you hated school and homework. For me I liked school. I didn’t enjoy homework that much , but I didn’t hate it. Kids only hate homework when they don’t know how to do it, or if it is too much. It can be fun if you let it. Teach kids how to learn how to do their homework by making a game out if it. If they are learning math like adding or subtracting, use objects like marbles, buttons, coins, craft sticks ,etc. That is what they teach in Kindergarten at my kids school. They are now in 1st and 2nd grade. If the parent shows a negative attitude toward school and telling that child “of course it’s not fun and I hate it to”, then the child will have a negative attitude towards homework and school. My kid’s school has a website that you can go under called Helpful sites when you click on Parents. It has all kinds of stuff parents and kids can do together. One I like to go on is call Coolmath4kids. It is a colorful site with bright colors and all kinds of games to play like math games, number monster, long division, brain benders and much more. It teaches step by step instructions on how to do multiplying, long division and such. There is also web links to go to called Basketball math,FunBrain,Math Cats, Learning Planet,National Geographic kids, Sentence clubhouse(which tells about different types of sentences). So don’t tell me or anyone homework cannot be fun it can be. Kids need to have a positive attitude while in school, if they do and like it more, they will get better grades, respect teachers more, have more friends and etc.. If that happens they will much more likely have a great future ahead of them, especially if they stay away from the wrong crowd of friends who are bad influences. Encourage kids to do well and do their best, praise them when they do well. Don’t insult them or call them stupid because they didn’t pass a test. Talk to them about it with them and why they didn’t do so well. Ask them if they need some help studying or creating a better work space for your child so they can concentrate. Encourage not discourage. Peace.

What are your favorite educational websites to use?
By educational, I mean that they can be for teachers to use for lesson plans/rubric/other, interactive sites for students to directly engage in, parents to use for their children, etc.
As early as August, I may have my own classroom and I’m collecting (educational) websites of any kind or category that I may find useful.
