Your Questions About Firefox

Michael asks…

How do IE and Firefox make money? Where is the revenue source coming in from?

How do Microsoft and the owners of Firefox make money? Google is planning to create a browser also to compete with them called “chrome”. I was wondering where does the source of revenue come in? There are no ads, etc. These programs are free.

Michelle answers:

Microsoft makes money (obviously) by selling their software and having a big monopoly on the desktop. Firefox does it by “advertising” Google by having the search bar. Firefox is open source, so much of the work done to make it was done for free by people who wanted to contribute, making it much easier to support financially.

Thomas asks…

How do I import Firefox bookmarks and other settings from one user account to another?

I have a limited account and an administrator account on Windows XP. I would like to import all of my Firefox settings from my Limited Account to my Admin Account so they are exactly the same.

Michelle answers:

It is a great little tool! Even brings over saved passwords

Richard asks…

In Firefox – How to open in new tab automatically when I click a bookmark?

In Firefox I normally use right-click > “Open in new tab” when browsing web pages. This can also be done when clicking on a bookmark.

Is there any way to get Firefox to do this automatically (by default) when left-clicking a bookmark instead of having to do the right click?

Michelle answers:

If you have a mouse with a scroll, click the scroll on the bookmark and it’ll open it in a new tab =)

Charles asks…

How can I stop Firefox from automatically updating itself on my laptop?

I dont like the way it just does this itself. It starts to block too many pages even its own firefox pages.

Michelle answers:

Go to tools>options>advanced tab, click on the update tab. Uncheck anything you don’t want.

I cant see why youd want to though as firefox only prompts an update when you open up firefox and even then only takes 5-10 seconds to update. You should never not update a browser … Theyre not only important for your online security but for a better internet experience… A lot of people still use the awful internet explorer 6 for a lack of updating
