Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Book

Lizzie asks…

can i please have some peoples thoughts on early labour?

I have had 2 previous pregnancies my first child was born at 38.2 weeks and weighed 6.9
my second child was born at 36.5 and weighed 5.9.
My first labour was 3 hours from start to finish My second labour was 1hour and 20 minutes from start to finish..
My first pregnancy i had a episiotomy a 3rd degree tear a 2nd degree vaginal tear a labial tear and multiple grazes it took 4 months to heal.
My second pregnancy i had episiotomy a 2nd degree tear and grazes.
With my second pregnancy i was suppose to go for a c section because of the complications the first time i was booked in for a c section but i went earlier than booked.
Due to how short labor was i didnt have time for c section.
I was told that my body isnt suited for big babies im less than 5 foot and i weighed before pregnancy 55 kilos.
I am 33 weeks today i went into preterm labour at 25 weeks doctors stopped it and i was put on bed rest for almost a month. I also borderline gestational diabetes which is were i had 2 tests and only failed one. When i had the 28 week ultrasound the lady told me that my baby was weighing in more than suppose to which can be a cause of bgd i had a appointment at 29 weeks when the midwife measured my belly she said i was measuring in mpre than i was suppose to by a reasonable amount.
They then gave me an estimate of having a 9 pound baby I was told to ask my midwife at my next appointment to ask for another ultrasound to see measurements because if bub weighs over 7 pound they would like to do a c section i wanted to do natural birth my fears are that i will go early because of going into pre term labour at 25 weeks the size of bub due to bgd and i have had a early birth and 2 miscarriages. I also have deterioration of the cervix cause by having my cervix stitched after giving birth the last time… What would my chances of going early be.. I have been told by certain doctors that the reason why my kids probably came at the weeks and size they did was because thats all my nbody could hold and this baby is bigger than average..

Michelle answers:

I would say you are a likely candidate for preterm labor.
Good luck.

George asks…

what should i do?

im booked a c-section due to pre-eclampsia risk due to previous pregnancy and also this time i have spd and its getting worse (im 28wks at the moment),now i would love to have a natural birth or at least try before i discovered i had spd my obsteatricain said tht if i went for normal birth then i would be given a 12 hour cut off point (was in unprogressing labour for 25 hours ). i feel so guilty and useless for having another c-section…my hubby would like me to have a c-section as hes petrified something would go wrong (as he was told if i had given birth last time at home i would have died). i just dont know what to do advice please
im having a boy! and thanks so far

p.s iis not me giving thumbs down x

Michelle answers:

Please take my word for this: You are NOT useless. Plain and simple, you are just NOT useless. You are producing a baby that with any luck at all will grow up and make you and your husband very proud. In the final analysis, you will end up doing whatever will give your baby and YOU the best chances of a successful outcome with this pregnancy. I sympathesize with your desire to go through the birthing experience. There is all that romantic idealization about seeing the head emerge or your husband cutting the cord or taking the baby and laying it on your tummy seconds after it is born. I hope you get to experience this. But the bottom line is this: you will just have to do what gives the life inside your body the best chances of survival. Good luck and please do not have any negative feelings about yourself even if you do have to do the C-section. In any event, you get a new baby!

Sandra asks…

help feeling really down about birth?

QUESTION: how do I get past the feeling of failure about a c section. Son was emergency Csection and now needing a second.

YOU DONT HAVE TO READ THE REST ITS JUST DETAILS

I had been looking forward to a VBAC my whole pregnancy however at 32 weeks my doctor advised me to have a second section. I took his concerns into consideration but decided against it and stuck with my plans of VBAC. I have Crohns disease and am prone to fistulas and abscesses in that area and he is also concerned about my bowel being too weak and the muscles in and around my anus being too weak also and there was a likely chance any tares would result in incontinence. After discussion with my Ob also he said bub has a big head and he would (going with my specialists comments) also recommend a second section. I still decided against until I reached my 36th week and lost continence just from being pregnant. I have no control of my bowel, thankfully this will go away after I recover from the pregnancy and birth. Any way on top of that I was diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis and my liver is having such a hard time that my Ob said again he would recommend a second section because of the effect pain meds and possible other meds during natural birth could cause my liver more trouble and to possibly shut down.

So after lots of debate and discussion I booked the section for this Thursday, in 4 days I will go into hospital and into theater where I will not deliver my baby, they will remove her. I feel as though I have failed before even trying but the risks of a natural birth are becoming increasingly higher.

I am also disappointed that I cannot breast feed due to medications that suppress my immune system and would do the same to the baby.

I feel like every part of having this baby is fake, I know her gender and birthday and I am not having or feeding her naturally.

I am not even excited about my baby’s birth. 🙁

Michelle answers:

Sweety – it is NOT a failure!! I understand what you are saying. Many women desire a vaginal birth and to breastfeed but sometimes it just does not work out. It is not your fault and you are certainly not alone.

You have been given good advice and for your own healt, you are follwing it. We are luck to live in a day and age where it is possible to have procedures in place to enable mothers to give birth. Just because she is not coming out of your vagina, does not mean she is not being born, or birthed!! That day will be her first day on earth, her BIRTHday. It does not matter how she got here or what she drank, it matters that she will have a Mummy who will love her, protect her, house her, feed her etc.

I am yet to see a grown up who is mad at their mother for haveing a c section or not nursing them as a child!!!

I have not answered on this forum for awhile but your pain really touched me as you have so much to be happy for. Please do not feel like you are failing.

Your daughter to be and son need a Mum to look after them. What if you went ahead with a vaginal birth and suffered badly from it that is affected your parenting? It is not work the risk.

Sorry I cannot be more helpful, maybe once she is actually here you will feel better but if you do not, please talk to someone who can help you.

Please take care and try not to worry – you are doing the best thing you can and are still a mother who is going to GIVE BIRTH to her beautiful daughter soon!!!

Thomas asks…

What was the BEST advice on pregnancy & your new born you received?

Hi everyone! I am 11 weeks and 2 days pregnant with my first! I am soooo over the 1st trimester,
I am nauseous all day long and have ZERO energy. I cant wait for relief! Anyways I am Just curious to what was the best advice about being pregnant, going through labor, or your new born that you received . I am striving for a natural birth (going through a midwife) and will be breastfeeding, later I will be making my own baby food as well! any ladies do it? I would love all the advice possible! or even what books are the best that I should get. Thank you for taking the time to answer and congrats on your baby!

Michelle answers:

I never really received this advice, but the best thing I have learned as a mother to my 8 month old is to prepare everything ahead of time! Make up a ton of baby food and store it already portioned in the freezer and in the refrigerator, I like to rotate the frozen food into the fridge a few days prior so it will thaw and be ready by the time I get to it. I prep bottles as soon as they are washed by having two days worth of bottles in the fridge and the rest already filled with the portioned amount of powder in the cupboard. Since you plan on breastfeeding that might not be an option, but if you plan on pumping ever, you could get a nice little backup supply going. It is so much more convenient to be able to just pull out the food or bottle when baby is fussy. They don’t really understand that you’re making it for them, they just have to wait a sec lol!

As for pregnancy, my best advice was to just relax!! Especially once you get into your third trimester and are always uncomfortable and anxious to meet your little one. It’s hard to remember to just take it one day at a time and relax while you have the chance, because once your little one is here you will be plenty busy!

Best of luck and congratulations!!!

Your Questions About The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Lizzie asks…

How soon after a miscarriage can you get pregnant?

I had a miscarriage at 8 weeks and 2 days last week and I didn’t have to have a D&C, I passed it naturally and the doctor said that everything is fine with me and that I could start trying for another baby soon as long as I am emotionally ready but I was worried about getting pregnant soon after my miscarriage cause I don’t want it to end up in another one but he assures me that as long as I don’t smoke or drink and I take my prenatal vitamins everyday that it should be fine cause I had a natural miscarriage. Has anyone gotten pregnant right after a miscarriage and had a normal healthy pregnancy? This was my first miscarriage, I have a healthy 2 year old boy.

Michelle answers:

I had a miscarriage in June and i was only 4 weeks and the baby passed naturally without any assistant needed but my doctor told me to wait at least 6 weeks before trying again. So we quit trying and I got pregnancy in August almost 6 weeks but more like 5 or so and I am now 25 weeks and have had no problems at all. Sorry about your loss but Good luck in trying again. Thomas asks…

I need help on the decision of VBAC or repeat c-section, please I am so scared and nervous this time around.?

I am 5’0″, I have a two year old that was born in September of 06.. I was delivering him natural and was in labor for 7 hours before the doctors realize hey.. the face is down and not up making it more difficult for my size to deliver vaginally. So we had to go through an Emergency c-section, now almost three years later, I am pregnant with my second, and am having difficulty deciding what to do. I have the choice of a VBAC or planned c-section. My last c-section scared me so bad, I guess the mixture of pain medicines I had when they had to put me to sleep.. and the recovery was hell. Last pregnancy I weighed 82 pounds pre-pregnancy and gained 70 pounds total. This time my pre-pregnancy weight is 130. and I am 5 months and only gained 2 pounds so far.. can anyone please relate and guide me?

Michelle answers:

I had my first by c-section, though it wasn’t an emergency. For me, labor was just not progressing, and after getting to 3 cm, my cervix was beginning to swell shut again!

I tried for VBAC for the next one, but I ended up with another c-section.

I think, if the OB is confident in trying for a VBAC, you could go for it. Recovery really is much faster. If it’s not working out, they can still do the c-section.

Try not to worry – we women do this all the time. 🙂

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Mandy asks…

18 years old, mum found my contraeptive pill and is making a big deal out of it, what are my rights?

She came into my room while I was still in bed and I always keep the pills beside my bed as I take them early in the morning and then hide them in my drawer during the day. I have been with my boyfriend for a year and I love him very much and she knows about him and is ok with it. I am 18, going into second year of college and live away from home while im away at college. When she saw the box of pills, i quickly grabbed them. She demaded to know if they were contracepive pills and I told her they were. She said to me then ”I cant believe you, Can you not save yourself?” I have saved my self for someone who I eally love, which is my boyfriend, She then told my dad and I got very upset about it, those pills were my business and no one elses, and its bad enough that shes told my dad because hes a man and he doesnt need to a womans business like that. I feel very strongly about keepin my private business like that to myself and feel very violated now, was my mum right to go mad at me just because Im being safe and using condoms aswell??!! I seriously dont understand it, if i found out my daughter was on the pill, I would pat her on the back and say fairlplay to ya for being safe, I thought my mum would have been a bit more happy for me??!! lets face it, havin sex is a natural part of growing up, and yes I do understand the consequences and I do know im always risking pregnancy, but I take my pills perfectly so I know im very safe. I also went on the pill as I have got acne which is now cleared up thankfully and also I want ed my perods to be very regular, which has worked……..please help?? surely I have a right to privacy??!!

Michelle answers:

Well, you’re 18 so legally an adult. Those pills really are none of her business, while she might be upset for a little while, it will blow over. Also, tell her that you got on them for your acne and to help you have lighter more comfortable periods. I would suggest talking to her about it and just let her know that you are growing up and that part of you life shouldn’t be up for discussion with her. Good luck 🙂

John asks…

1 Month Old Vomitting?

Hello,

I just recently had a baby boy born on February 6th, 09.
I had a perfectly healthy pregnancy, in fact in went so well I didn’t even think the whole process was even that bad. I had a natural birth and he was born 6 lbs, 10 oz.
For the past couple of weeks I’ve noticed that he has started to vomitting starting at once a day, then 2-3 times to every feeding.

He has no other symptoms, no fever, no cold or virus, no change in activity, feeds perfectly well and so on and so forth. When I took him to the doctors when this first happened she pressed on his tummy and examinied him and found nothing. She weighted him and he was then 7 lbs, 5 oz… so since there was nothing visibly wrong with him, she switched him from Similac Advance (what he was first on) to Similac Senstive.

That has done nothing.
Since that first doctors visit I’ve had him at the hospital and even emergency because I have been so concered with his vomitting. He vomites what looks like to me twice as much what he takes in. The last doctors visit, a few days ago, it showed that he was 7 lbs 5 oz… he didn’t lose or gain any weight.

I’ve tried giving him less formula more frequently.
I WAS giving him: 80ml every 3-4 hours.. NOW: 30ml-40ml every 1-2 hours.

I’ve heard that this is just reflux and there is nothing I can do about it and he will just have to grow out of it. Of course I am a worried parent and want to know all I can know before I just accept that he will be vomitting every feeding.

Nothing is working!
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help this?
Any advice? Tips?
Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks!
Brittany.
yes, i know it is vomiting for a fact.
it went from more of spit up to now projectile vomit.

also, he tends to cough up thick, clear mucus-like substance. i know he has has a cold the last couple of days, so that might be from that, or is it something else?

also, i have noticed he sleeps for a lot longer now. i don’t know if that’s because he’s getting older, so he’s sleeping longer… or something else?

Michelle answers:

If it’s honestly vomiting, and not just a little spit up, then please have him checked for Pyloric Stenosis. Our son had this. It’s a big deal (dehydration because of the vomiting, then an IV in the hospital where he was admitted, and then surgery) He was 4.5 weeks old when we finally figured out what was going on.

For weeks, we had no clue what was happening. We tried different formulas, different sleeping positions and had a ton of visits to the pediatrician and even the ER to rule out formula allergies, Acid Reflux and any illness. It was infuriating and terrifying because it seemed like no one could figure it out. I kept on hearing, “Oh, babies spit up – get over it.” But, this was not spitting up! And, it turned out to be Pyloric Stenosis. Feel free to email me if you want to chat or ask questions about it. It happens normally to first born boys.

Good luck!

By the way, I wanted to add that he has severe reflux also – And there is a difference between spitting up normally, spitting up from reflux and throwing up. I just wanted to mention that because I heard a lot of, “You’re over-reacting… I’m sure it’s just spit up” stuff.

Helen asks…

My cat is acting VERY out of character?

My husband’s cat is about 14 years old, and has been acting very peculiar lately. Normally all she does it eat, sleep and poop, but lately shes been scratching my walls, attacking the door, she leaked some kind of liquid into my husbands laptop case, she did the “booty scooty” on the laptop case and this is just not her! She never plays or does any of this behavior before.

Asides from cats knowing when natural disasters are coming or sensing things like pregnancy, what else could this mean? Idk if we should take her to the vet or not =/
I should also add that she is fixed and when I called my mother in law to ask if possibly she could be in heat, she said it was impossible, so that rules out that scenario =/

Michelle answers:

Has she been wormed? If they scratch their bum on things, it means that it is itchy and that she might have worms. I’d take her to the vet, because even if it turns out to be nothing than a randy old cat with a case of worm-butt, it’s not worth letting her suffer through something that could turn out to be a lot worse.

Donald asks…

Implementation Bleeding when to test?

Hi & Thank You for your Time & Answers
If you dont want to read it all..
MY QUESTIONs… you dont have to answer all of them…

1- How long after implementatin bleeding should I take a preg. test

2- Will my HcG levels be up still from the miscarriage? Its been 4 weeks & I was 7wks along.

3- What would you do, take the test or not? Any Advise?

More details…
I have not had a period in months so I cant take a pregnancy test based off of an expected menstral cycle.

Im breastfeeding 4 times a day my 13 month old son.
I had my first miscarriage (natural…no DnC) on Jan 15th.
The Dr’s said I was about 7 weeks along.

Started regular marital intercourse on the 25th.
Noticed brown bloody discharge (sign of old blood) yesterday.

I dont think its related to the miscarriage becasue that was a month ago.
I think its implementation bleeding because it has stopped.

Im debating taking a preg test now for a few reasons..

It may be posative from the HcG levels from the previous pregnancy
& I dont want to get my hopes up… or emotions in a twist

BUT if I AM pregnant I want to know asap so that I can take it as easy as possable
(Im about to start a job which I can work at home or at an office but I need to tell my boss what to expect me to do.. I was planning 3-4 days at the office but honestly If Im preg I dont want to risk it…

Also..
Before my previous preg. my cycle was normal so becasue it’s been a month since the misc…
Should I expect a period by now?

Thank You
I appreciate your Time & Answers

Michelle answers:

1- How long after implementatin bleeding should I take a preg. Test:

It’s actually called Implantation bleeding (when the fertilized egg implants in the uterine lining). Taking a pregnancy test depends on what cycle day you saw the implantation bleeding. I saw mine on cycle day 12, so by then a pregnancy test should confirm or deny pregnany. Implantation bleeding can occur from cycle day 6 to around cycle day 12 or 13. Cycle day 6 is way too early.

2- Will my HcG levels be up still from the miscarriage? Its been 4 weeks & I was 7wks along:

This is quite possible. Your Doctor should be able to answer this more clearly for you. I would call your doctor’s office and ask to speak to a nurse. Ask her your question.

3- What would you do, take the test or not? Any Advise?:

I would find out first from your doctor (or nurse) if a blood test would give an accurate reading 4 weeks after a miscarriage. I’m sorry for your loss. If they say you would get an accurate reading, I would take the test!

No heartbeat at scan, what happens now?

I started bleeding early on in pregnancy after I pulled a stomach muscle at work & a scan revealed I was 8 weeks 4 days, I saw the heartbeat but there was bruising to the womb. I bled for another week and had my proper first scan this morning. The screen was facing me the whole time, I could see the face, nose, body, arms & legs and he/she was lying on his/her back with limbs curled in against the body. No movement and I couldn’t see the heartbeat this time because there wasn’t one,it must have stopped very recently as it was 11 wks 5 days which is what I worked out I should be today. I know its unlikley but could they miss the heartbeat?
I have another scan friday and will discuss my options for surgical removal or natural which i’ll be booked in for next monday – what do both these involve? and is there a chance that I’ll lose the baby naturally over the weekend ?
I feel so lost, I asked questions but they rushed me out saying i’ll be too stressed to take on too much info.

Michelle answers:

Maria i am so sorry for your loss. I have had 4 previous miscarriages including twins at 16 weeks. It is awful and the problem is that professionals see this quite often so they are not as sympathetic and caring as they should be. They see us more as numbers and forget we are real people who are experiencing this!
I doubt that they could of missed the heartbeat to be honest with you. (i know that is the last thing you want to hear). I have never had a baby removed surgically as i have always wanted to pass mine naturally but i have had it explained to me. They put you asleep, gently open your cervix and literally ‘scrape’ the baby out.
Otherwise, if you choose you miscarriage naturally then do be prepared for a lot of pain. You can take strong painkillers for this i .e. Codiene. Sometimes the baby will come out whole or sometimes the body will break everything down so you will have a long bleed with lots of clots.
Once again i am so sorry for your loss.
Xx

Joseph asks…

Do you think this is safe enough?

My boyfriend and I have been together for three and a half years and we were each-others first partners so STD’s are not an issue. I have been on hormonal birth control for years and do not like the way it makes me feel so I have stopped taking it. We do not want a baby so we are planning on using natural family planning charting my temperature with a basal thermometer and cervical mucus. Does this method really work as well as all the books say it does for preventing pregnancy? Thanks for your help. Let me know if you use this method or know anything else about it.
I never said anything about the pull out method.
Nathaniel, you obviously did not read my question at all.

Michelle answers:

I do not recommend this as birth control. I chart my BBT and i usually ovulate on day 15, but for some reason last month i ovulated on day 11 instead. Had i of been using this as birth control, i would of failed. Even when you know your body really well, it can throw a curve ball at you, and you’ll ovulate at a time you never expected. Charting your BBT only tells you when you have already ovulated, and will never tell you the exact day you will ovulate. It helps you get in tune with you body and pinpoint ovulation…it’s not reliable birth control!

Pregnant in the Middle East (bahrain)?

Hi

How do pregnant expats in the middle east feel comfortable having kids ( in bahrain) when I have looked everywhere for local resources and educational classes online for pregnant esp young mothers and nothing exists. I also tried to go to a lot of bookstores but find the same 4 uninterested english books over and over. Is there a lack of interest in the public for educating pregnant women here? and having positive childbirth/ children? Does anyone else feel this way? I am only interested in natural birth and drug free pain management during pregnancy such as prenatal massages etc. Where can I find this offered?
You’re right about the internet. The problem is that I have very limited information and I found that a lot of stuff on the internet was garbage- like drink sodas during pregnancy etc it helps in digestion!! I have no idea which sites are sound.

If anyone can offer me even VALID medical pregnancy support groups online or site listings that would be GREAT!!
Gigi..OMG thanks for your reply!!

This is exactly what I wanted.. a midwife!! I thought these didn’t exist here LOL

I read about Hypnobirthing somewhere but I am not exactly sure i think..it is a technique used to ease pain before labour in natural births I believe

Please change your YA page settings so I am allowed to email you!

Michelle answers:

Hi,
I read your question with interest as I am a retired British trained midwife with over 20 years experience, half of it in the Middle East. You will be pleased to learn that I am one of a few ‘hypnobirthing’ pracitioners in Bahrain that can provide you with birthing and parenting training. I believe there are massage therapists here that provide services for pregnant women. I hope you will find this info useful. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance by sending me your contact details.

40 weeks 3 days few questions :)?

hi girls

i am 40 weeks 3 days pregnant and waiting and waiting for a sign 🙁 really want to see my little boy now and hes just not showing any signs ?? he moves legs and arms plenty hes fully engaged and my belly is sitting very low ? im just not getting any signs hes coming lol not really any pains no back aches, just uncomfy when im sleeping !! the only thing i do get is alot of tightening s on my belly ? i am booked in monday to see midwife if hes still not hear and shes booking me in to be induced if hes still not hear 🙁 but i really really want a natural birth has anyone else had this sort of pregnancy? and is it common to be late in pregnancy with your first baby ?? any tips or stories would be a great help 🙂 thank u for reading xx

very very excited mummy 2 be xxxx
also being over 40 weeks slow down movements ? im always feeling him move but the movements are not as big as they used to be xx
yes i have tried raspberry leaf tea, sex, long walks, etc most things hes just to comfy in there lol

Michelle answers:

Yes it is extremely common to be late with the first. Most people i know went over their due date. Don’t worry too much about the induction there is still plenty of time yet for him to make an appearence. My son was 15 days late. On day 14 i was induced 3 times, they all failed and on day 15 they finally got a doctor to see me who told me my baby’s head was trapped and was holding the cervix in the wrong position. It was unlikely that i would go into labour naturally. I had a C-section and he was still pulled out with forceps!! Like you i tried everything to get him out but non of it worked. He will be here when he is ready and if you do have to be induced it will still be a wonderful experience, you can’t beat the feeling of seeing your baby for the first time, however they made it to the world!

3.) How do you deal with a 2 year old and a new born?

4.) If anyone went threw natural childbirth ( no pain meds) what did you find helped you the most and what helped you the worst?

Thanks for all the answers in advance!!
Also How are all you ladies feeling in your pregnancy and how far along are you?

Michelle answers:

1) I always had my bags packed by 36 wks and kept in the trunk of the car. I wanted to make sure my dumbass husband wouldn’t forget it when we left for the hospital.

2) It depends on how good the technician is. It mostly depends on your baby’s position in utero. If the baby is facing your spine, you won’t see the baby’s face. You might get lucky tho. 🙂

3) You deal with it the best you can. It’s all about pecking order. The fact is that the newborn will require much less attention in the first couple of months, so it won’t be too bad. Once the newborn is more alert, you just juggle with which child needs something more. It will be a little overwhelming at first, but those instincts take over and you’ll see how awesome a multi-tasker you really are!!

4) One of my labors was drug free and epidural free. I didn’t have time to get drugs. I started labor and delivered in less than two hours. Without drugs, it’s like time stops and the pain doesn’t. But, it’s faster usually because the drugs can alter the contractions, thus prolonging labor. If you choose to go drug free, prepare yourself, because it is quite painful.

I am finally getting my juice back. I’m in my 14th week with my 5th child. The nausea hits me once in a while, but aside from that, I’m awesome!!

Joseph asks…

Pregnant mommies. 🙂 please answer…?

I am due in August..I am having my fourth child…my fourth girl 🙂

I am so excited but, I just want to get her out of here and play with her hahahaha. 🙂

How many more months do you have before your due date?
How is the prengnacy going…how’s the baby doing?
Do you have other children?
Are you going to have a natural child birth or use some drugs?

I will answer;
1 month and 2 weeks. 🙂 yay
the baby is doing well…she is normal and I am doing well too. 🙂
I have 3 other girls (4 year old and twin 2 year old girls)
I am doing this all natural…I did that for my other 2 pregnancies and I am not going to stop. 🙂

thank you. 🙂

Michelle answers:

I know exactly how you feel! I’m almost 23 weeks with my first child, also a girl, and I can’t wait to meet her face to face. I’m already totally in love with her and can’t imagine having more love for her in my heart than I already do – Although I know I will!

The pregnancy is going well. I had a very bad first appointment. There wasn’t a visible baby for the first ultrasound and they wanted to do a D&C right away. My husband and I convinced the Dr. To wait a few days and retest my blood to see if the HGC level doubled (which would indicate a healthy pregnancy) it did and here we are!

Other than that, and having the worst nausea for four months, it has been great! – I feel confident in my changing body and I am looking forward to the future!

Best of Luck!

Going to hold out without medication as long as I can, but if it is too excruitiating then I will probably have an Epidural

Susan asks…

Am I the only sixteen year old who enjoys being innocent?

I feel really depressed about the attitude of our generation.

Almost every day, I hear stories about events at parties, crime, violence, substance abuse, boys and girls ”going far” with each other.

I know your teenage years are supposed to be a time for experimentation, discovery, enjoyment. But I think this has gone too far. A girl has been lying to me for some time about a pregnancy and a miscarraige that never existed. Really dangerous trends are happening.

Are there any teenagers out there who prefer simpler pleasures and more natural highs? Like painting, art, reading, sport…there are so much better ways to use your strong emotions than by making your life bad.

I know the media paints an ugly picture of us, but I genuinely hope there are some young people out there who like being young and having the sort of freedom without the burdens we will get later.

Do you agree?

xxxxxxxx

Michelle answers:

Yes you are right! When i was 16, i enjoyed been at home with my parents and siblings, having BBQ parties with neighbours and water fights and stuff with friends.
And yes there were class mates that were been brought home by cops and with handfuls of guys on a night, which is pure trashy!
I was never the 16 year old that hooked up with someone just for the sake of having to!

I am 18 now, have not missed out on anything, parties and laughs most weekends now.
Having a great time!

You are a person true to yourself, and you deserve praise!! 😉

At least there are alot of 16 year olds that have respect for themselves~

Sharon asks…

Should I get a breast augmentation/lift (Picture included) 16 years old?

I’m 16 and my breasts sag. I know some sag is normal but mine is beyond normal sag. I was on steroids for asthma and lost weight. My breast didn’t get bigger or smaller but there’s a lot of extra skin (at least 2 inches on each breast). Bras don’t work (don’t suggest them). I’ve been wearing a bra since I was 8. I’ve tried every kind and every brand. I looked into lifts but lifts look much better with implants and I don’t plan on having kids for like 10 years so I won’t get sagging from pregnancy. If I’m going to have really bad scarring anyway, I might as well get the best looking breasts I can. Do you agree? I’m a C cup. I plan to go to like a D or DD (I’m not going for the Pam Anderson look. I’m tall and breast implants are smaller than natural sizes meaning a DD appears more like a D). I’m want to get surgery when I’m 18.

Picture (it’s blacked out and stuff so it’s not porn)
http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc21/KATTUNfangirl/boob.jpg
As I said, I’m going to wait until I’m 18 but my doctor agrees that I at least need a lift. The sagging is painful and there is nothing but surgery that can help.
Why would I get a lift that gives horrible results when I can get that and implants and have a terrific figure?
I’m very tall and bigger boned. I can handle larger implants. I don’t have back pain.
I’ve tried push up bras. They give them no shape whatsoever. My breasts can’t even go together to form cleavage.
No, I do not have a LITTLE bit of sag. My doctor has told me I have the high degree of sag. A little sag is when they’re a few cm off. My sag is 3-4 inches. My breasts do not even start until an inch after my breast bone sticks out.
I’VE TRIED EVERY TYPE OF BRA! SPORTS, UNDERWIRE, PUSHUP, ECT. NOTHING WORKS!!! I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on bras. They do not work. I’ve been fitted many times. They will not help. This is what my doctor has told me. It doesn’t even matter if I wear a bra or not anymore.

Michelle answers:

Wow that is a lot of sag. I agree you should get surgery for it. Sorry.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Sandra asks…

lost plug. no bloody show and no discharge?

a day after my last Dr. appointment I took a shower and noticed discharge when i dried myself. i couldn’t tell if it was colored due to the color of the towel.. was this my mucous plug or just regular discharge? i’m 38 weeks pregnant and for the whole pregnancy have not had any type of discharge that’s why i think it’s my plug. oh and since this appointment i haven’t had much contractions or BH like i did before the visit. just the normal back ache and contractions during the night. nothing but regular BH during the day.. I’m trying to have a VBAC and have been trying natural methods to get my body ready for when he comes…

thanks for all your responses..

ALSO PLEASE DO NOT TELL ME NOT TO TRY NATURAL LABOR INDUCTION. if you’re not personally living in my shoes please don’t tell me why you wouldn’t do something that i’m doing.. i just need to know if i’m the only one out there who’s experiencing what i am with the lost plug but no discharge. that’s all….

Thanks

Michelle answers:

Ok was it a lot cause when i lost mine it was the size of a table spoon (but it is different for everyone) also if it was only a small amount it could be breaking away
next time try if your using a coloured towel get something white and take it off it and have a good look at it if its pinky in colour or creamy with a bit of blood or even slightly brown well then it would be your plug

well i wish you all the best in your vbac and i hope it all goes to plan for u

Ruth asks…

I don’t know what else to do?

People say that stimulating your nipples can help induce labor? Would pumping milk during pregnancy be considered a stimulant or can I harm myself or the baby by doing this? Im 41 weeks pregnant and the doctor is planning to induce me this wednesday, I really just want to have a natural labor without induction, also, my doctor sweeped my membranes yesterday and all I had since then was cramping and no contractions. I’ve tried everything and nothing worked, can someone please give me some advice, anything would help at the moment.

Michelle answers:

Have sex, go walking, laugh, scream, do anything that causes you to have an extreme emotion(hell do your taxes) nipple stimulation isn’t a bad idea.

Chris asks…

Dr. stripped my membranes..NOW WHAT?!!!!!! Nurses? Dr.’s?

The Dr. stripped my membranes yesterday and I have been losing my mucus plug (clear snotlike) all day. I’m 2 cm and 50% effaced. I’ve been having lots of braxton hicks. Some painful, but not breath taking. Does this mean that the stripping is working? What should I look for next…contractions…..bloody show? How soon?

This is my second pregnancy. First one was an elective induction. Not sure what natural labor feels like or what do look for next. Help if you can

Michelle answers:

Hi! I am now 31 weeks pregnant with my second child and I understand how your feeling. First of all, the above answerers are right that active labor will start to pick up when your body is ready for it. Unless you are having any problems like continual bleeding or something uncommon, then you’ll have to wait it out.

I know it sounds horrible and probably isn’t the answer your looking for because I was totally ready to have my daughter the first time around. I felt miserable having to wait around with all the intense pressure, feeling exhausted, and just generally sick and waiting for her to come out! Its the worst and also your hormones and emotional state is affected by it so you’ll keep tormenting yourself with questions about is this normal and NO I don’t really feel it’s normal!!! But trust me it is and when your baby is ready (he/she will be here VERY soon) then your next step will be to focus on recovery and overcome the new mother syndrome that will definitely follow. So my best advice to you is to try and keep yourself as comfortable as possible and busy yourself with whatever you can (a book or watching TV). It will happen soon!!!! Also try to rest as much as possible and save your energy for when you’ll really need it. Take care of yourself and God bless you and your little one.

Jenny asks…

31 weeks pregnant, having pains, dr talking about inducing, please I NEED advice.?

I am just getting over a UTI, went to the hospital while trying to get over the UTI had contractions they gave me a shot to stop the contractions. I have been having pains, or tightening feelings in my stomach. They dont feel like the conrtactions I was having in the hospital, are they Braxton Hicks or…what could they be? My doctor is talking about inducing me at 38 weeks because my blood pressure is steadily rising and i have a high risk of developing toxima (spelling?). Should her lungs be developed well enough to deliver then. (My doctor said he would keep and eye on her and run some tests before any plans were set in stone, but just on average are the lungs mature at that time). Is Induction more painful than natural labor? And my baby weighed 3.1 lbs at 28 weeks, how much weight do babies normally gain per week on average from now until full term (40 weeks)? Also one last question, my baby has had her head down the entire pregnancy, when does the doctor start checking the babies position, like when does it matter that her head is down? And with inductions I keep hearing that alot of them end in c-section, is that true????

Michelle answers:

38 weeks is full term, usually a baby’s lungs are mature by 36 weeks and sometimes earlier. Average weight of a fetus at 28 weeks is about 2lbs 4oz, so I wouldn’t worry about low birth weight if you deliver at 38 weeks. What you described does sound like braxton hicks contractions, they are normal. My doctor told me that they start to think about the baby’s position for birth around 37 weeks because they should move head down naturally at 37-38 weeks to prepare for birth (so far my son is still transverse, so I made sure to ask) The research I’ve done basically indicated that Pitocin (the drug they use to induce labor) causes the uterus to contract harder than it would naturally, speeding up the labor process but also making it more painful. So, most women who are given Pitocin end up requesting an epidural. The epidural ends up slowing the labor back down and making it much harder to push effectively because you don’t have as much feeling or muscle control, and that increases your chances for needing a c-section. Pitocin can also make you contract so hard that the baby and umbilical cord get squished with each contraction, and that can lead to needing a c-section. I don’t mean to scare you, I just want to pass along the info i gathered since you asked. It sounds like your blood pressure is enough of a concern that it is worth the extra c-section risk to make sure you and the baby are okay. Best of luck 🙂

Your Questions About Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Donald asks…

If a biological father wanted to get his child back after an adoption has been finalized, is it possible?

I know someone who adopted a child and this situation just came about. She adopted the baby as an infant and that child is now a couple of years old. She stays in contact with the natural mom and they have a good relationship. Apparently the biological father (who knew about the pregnancy but abandoned the biological mom while she was pregnant) now all of a sudden says he wants the child, even though he has shown no interest until now. He didn’t know the child had been adopted.
I feel for biological fathers who had no idea of a pregnancy/adoption and want their baby once they find out, but in this situation he knowingly abandoned a pregnant mother.
My friend’s adoption lawyer has assured her there is nothing the man can do. My friend first heard about this from the bio-mom and was hysterical at first but is now ok. I really feel for my friend and in her case hope this man cannot do anything. I think it would be damaging for her child too who knows nothing but her and her husband as her mom and dad. Are they protected by the law?

Michelle answers:

Well folks that go around sprinkling children around the country without being responsible which means being married to the mother and in a committed relationship so that they can raise and care for a child. If not too bad. Meantime the mother had sole responsibility and her decision is final.

Nancy asks…

5 weeks pregnant blood outside sac! Will I miscarry?

Hi guys! Has anyone ever experienced this? I just visited my ob-gyn. This will be my 2nd pregnancy. I am 5 weeks pregnant, 30 years old. I had my first baby almost 11 months ago, natural delivery, no complications other than I leaked water and had to be induced (didn’t know my water broke and they had to break it there and I think she said I also bled after I delivered)

Anyhow, the dr checked me and she said she saw sac and the baby seems fine and is on par of being 5 weeks. But then she mentions that she also sees blood outside the sac. She not to worry. My next visit is in two weeks and I may or may not bleed. If I bleed, just look away and wipe, don’t worry. If it is heavy bleeding and/or you are really worried you can go to hospital or make appointment to see her and she will check on baby. Then she starts talking about miscarriage and the chances of it happening in general is 1 out of 3 weeks pregnancies. If this happens, I should not be worried or think I did something wrong etc. etc. But now I AM worried. When she first mentioned the blood she said not to worry and that I may or may not bleed. So why did she suddenly talk about miscarriage statistics?! Has anyone have thoughts on this? I really want this pregnancy to go through. As an insight I’m 105 lbs back to my normal weight. My first birth was 2 hours early from due date and he was 8 lbs if it makes any difference.

Michelle answers:

I had this with my third pregnancy. Everything will be okay. There will be bedrest, and extra u/s’s to check the bleeding and healing of the hematoma. The hematoma usually heals on its own by 20 weeks. Just get as much rest as you can and take it easy. Atleast you get to see your little peanut more often =) good luck darling, and congrats on the pregnancy

Richard asks…

Moms of twins, I’ve got alot of questions for you!!?

So I went to an utrasound today, and I found out I was pregnant with twins! Im 13 weeks along and very excited.. but I have so many questions!!

How old are your twins now? What week in your pregnancy did you deliver them? Did you have a natural birth or c-section? How much weight did you gain? When did you find out the genders? How many ultrasounds did you have? Did you have any complications? What were the first few weeks like? How much did your little angels weigh at birth?

So many questions.. xD
Also anything else you would like to add is very much appreciated! Thanks so much for answering! 🙂

Michelle answers:

Hey! I’m pregnant with twin boys at the moment due 1st Feb! Just wanted to say Congratulations!
I’m 22 weeks today and I swear the babies are fighting already lol. Enjoy your pregnancy, it gets very tiring very quickly. I went to my midwife last week at 21+3 and I was measuring 28 weeks, so can’t wait to see how big we get towards the end. Take it easy!

Sandy asks…

Are twins high risk pregnancies?

I just had my baby four months nearly five months ago. I am very content with my little family with me him and his father. But my husband is very eager to have a second child in the near future (Not until he is ATLEAST 1year old though). My family has a track record of both identical and faternal twins. (I don’t remember which ones were the ones that get handed down) Well our twins tend to jump generations. A lot of our traits jump generations and it’s my generation that is suppose to have twins. I am super nervous about having twins in general but most of the twins in my family have been either born still born or one died in the womb. All after 6 months. I believe we only have 3 twins that survived from my great great grandma all the way down to me. Which worries me more. I really don’t want to get pregnant again in fear that I’ll have twins and loose even one of my babies. I can’t imagine that pain because my first pregnancy was high risk enough with the on and off bleeding. Can someone clear up for me if it’s just natural with all twins or if it’s likely to happen to me?

Michelle answers:

Typically yes because it puts more stress on the mothers body. So many changes occur in a woman’s body during pregnancy but when there are multiplies, the changes tend to be multiplied. Considering that we are in the 21st century, there are so many multiple births that are successful. They may have a few complications, but doctors are becoming more and more equipped to handle problems that come with multiples.

*Congrats on your happy family 😀

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

John asks…

Why is this hurting me soo much???this is regarding blood test for pregnancy..?

Well based from my other question which you can read in my questions..I got my results back and unfortunately they came out negative, but my progesterone levels were elevated(3.3) they told me my levels were high because i ovulated and should be expecting my period anywhere from a couple days to 2 weeks however last month i was taking a natural progesterone cream and i forgot to mention that to them, so what i would like to know is could it have been the progesterone cream i took last month and that is why my levels are high could it be possible that i did not ovulate??
My husband and i have been trying to get pregnant for over a year and this month i though was it, i had lining on my uterus, i am 3 weeks late, my breasts have been hurting the past 3 weeks as well, i have been eating alot more, urinating more, been really bloated ect but as usual the tests were negative and i feel this time has hurt me alot more i am so upset i don’t know what to do:(

Michelle answers:

I don’t think you should get discouraged. I had three consecutive negative pregnancy tests (and yes, one was at the doctor) before I finally ended up with a positive one. It sounds to me like you’re having the first trimester symptoms. I wish you the best of luck!

David asks…

question about pregnancy and miscarriage??

Ive had 2 previous miscarriages, and im currently 11 weeks and 2 days pregnant…with my first M/C I didnt know until my first appt. when she did a sono and there was a sac but no baby..I was wondering if the baby dies and you dont have a natural miscarriage can you take a pregnancy test and it will be negative or will it still be positive since you haven’t expelled the tissue yet?? Thank you

Michelle answers:

It could still be positive but just depends on how much hcg is still in your blood. When I had my mc I had a dark postitive and then when I began to miscarry the tests just faded more and more everyday until my miscarriage was complete. I did not have to have a DNC thought my body naturally completed it. I hope I answered your question. Good Luck hun.

Joseph asks…

Has anyone ever taken natural progesterone pills? Please help me!?

My doctor is putting me on natural progesterone pills. I took the first one yesterday. She said I will need to be doing pregnancy test. But I don’t get it. If I take the pill from day 14 to 26 of the cycle will it kill a fetus in my uterus?

Please help me.

Michelle answers:

It shouldn’t since your body is supposed to produce progesterone naturally on it’s own. Your doctor wouldn’t put you on anything that would kill a fetus if she’s trying to help you get pregnant.

George asks…

Whats the best time to test for pregnancy?

I had sex with my boyfriend about 2 and weeks ago, before it about 3 weeks before that date. We dont have it very often. He likes it bare back. And I am off birth control since May of 2010. I was on Depo Provera. Said about 9 months to get pregnant. Its toxic so want to be all natural until wares out. Been 10 months now.

Yesterday I felt awful, ever since then been peeing a lot frequent, feel like barfing a lot, sick to my stomach, feel like somethings in my tummy. Been gagging a lot especially when waking up and during the night tonight been puking up some stuff in my mouth and into the toilet. Stuff has been tasting a lot different I notice when eating a honey dipped donut tasted weird, pop tastes weird some smells like chocolate smells stronger than normal.

My hormones have been messed up I am not in the mood like usual, not wanting some after that, my period is 2 weeks late.

When should I get tested and whats the best one for early detection? Clearblue, First response. Dollar Store one?

IM SCARED! I need help

Michelle answers:

I’m not to sure about the depo shot, I’ve never had it but I would say just take a pregnancy test to be safe. I didn’t even have any symptoms and hadn’t missed a period when I took a pregnancy test and found out I was pregnant. I took a digital clearblue which tested 5 days before your missed period. Best of luck.

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Donald asks…

16 years old and 37 weeks pregnant worried about labor?

I am very worried about going into labor. It is summer break now so I am home alone all day everyday. I have to handle anything with my pregnancy by myself and I am scared about going into labor. Both of my parents work two hours away and would not be able to get here if I were to go into labor. I had a labor scare and they drove me to the hospital but had to leave me there to go to work. I know they are working so hard to help support me and my child while I am on maternity leave from work but I really need there help here and I need help getting through this pregnancy because I can not do this on my own.
What should I do if I go into labor?
Should I call my parents and beg them to come to the hospital with me?
Should I call an ambulance?
How long should I deal with contractions on my own before calling anyone?
Will I just know when I need to push?
I am thinking about going natural, are there any other teens that have tried that?
I am rather small will I be able to give birth vaginally?
How would you describe a contraction?
Is labor any different for a teen?
Thank you 🙂

Michelle answers:

Well, I can’t answer all your questions, but my OB said to wait until I was having 10 contractions in one hour before going to the hospital. I was induced, so I didn’t have to deal with that. And I had an epidural the whole time, so I couldn’t tell you how a contraction feels. I’m 26, so I’m way out of my teens lol. But I’m pretty small built (5’2” and 120lbs before pregnancy) and I delivered a 8lbs 7ozs baby vaginally. I most definitely recommend the epidural. And the nurse told me when to push each time. I don’t think most people go into labor like the movies/tv, where you aren’t going to make it to the hospital and stuff. I’m sure it is scary being alone and having your parents so far away. Do you not have a friend or a friend’s parent that could take you to the hospital if you went into labor? I guess you could hope to be like me…at 39 weeks I was barely effaced and not dilated at all so my doctor scheduled an induction at 40 weeks. I’m glad, it’s hard to tell how long my baby would have stayed in there on his own (and continued to get bigger as well). Good luck, I hope everything goes smoothly for you 🙂

Sandra asks…

Pregnant after miscarraige?

On May 18th I had a spontaneous miscarraige at what I was supposed to be 13 weeks. The fetus only measured 7 weeks. This time has been extrememly tough but we have begun to accept what has happened. Our doctor advised that we wait one normal cycle and begin trying again. I’m a healthy 22 year old and he seems to think I’ll have no problems as my miscarraige was completely natural. I’m obviously quite unfamiliar with pregnancy, etc and was under the impression that it wouldnt be possible to get pregnant before having a period. After about a week, my bleeding stopped completely and we began having intercourse again w/out protection. Now that I realized I do ovulate before getting a period, I’m wondering how likely it is that I’m preg again, before I even got my first period! I know now is probably too early to test, but since i have no last period date, how do I know when to test? Also, if I am pregnant, will everything be ok bc it’s so soon. We got preg on the 1st try the first time.

Michelle answers:

There’s a really good chance that you can get pregnant again…same thing happened to me, i miscarried and ended up getting pregnant 3 weeks later. We now have a perfectly healthy and happy 6 month old boy. 🙂 if you do get pg again before you have a period, the only way to measure the due date is via ultrasound. Good luck! 😉

will i be bullied for being pregnant?
by going to school am i putting my baby’s life in jeopardy?
my boyfriend knows and supports me.
my parents are rarely home thats why they havent noticed i’m showing.

Michelle answers:

Wow. 14. I’m not going to criticize you because honestly, it’s the last thing you need. I’m nearly 37 weeks pregnant now and due on my 19th birthday, which also happens to be Thanksgiving this year so I may have a turkey baby :). I’m a little older than you and I’ve graduated but I still understand how nervous you are. Firstly, there are a ton of risks of you being pregnant this young. Some of the serious risks to your baby are immature organ development, mental retardation, premature birth, low birth weight, and death. And those are just a few. Since you are so young, you’re probably small so you’ll have difficulty carrying the baby, you’re more likely to be undernourished, which in turn, effects the baby, you may have a miscarriage, and sometimes, mothers so young, die in childbirth. There are a ton of risks and you should really see a doctor. Since you’re already so far along, I only see you being able to stay in school for another few months. Most mothers that get pregnant in high school and are a little older are able to stay in school until about 6 weeks before their due date. I graduated when I was 4 months so I didn’t have to worry about that. Really, it depends on if you develop any problems and what your doctor says. Most schools don’t act kindly toward young teenage mothers. You may get picked on and called names but it’s important for you to ignore it. Yes, it’s hard, but remember that we all make mistakes. Try not to get stressed. It can effect you and your baby and can cause more problems. In my school, even the teachers made fun of some of the pregnant girls. I never had problems, thankfully. Giving your baby a good life will be hard. You’re not even old enough to get a job yet outside of babysitting and things like that. Hun, you’re more than 5 months pregnant. You have to tell your parents NOW. I waited until I was close to 5 months and time does not make things better. Yes, they’ll be upset, which is completely understandable and expected. You have to understand that their baby is about to have a baby. It’s a very sensitive subject for most parents. You need to tell them as soon as possible so you guys can figure out a plan. Right now, it may be your parents giving your parents supporting your baby until you are old enough to do it yourself. Showing is completely normally at 5 months, especially if you’re small. I’ve known people to show at 3 months. I started showing at 4. It’s time that you felt your baby kick. You’re at that stage now. It was really exciting for me the first time I felt my baby kick. People’s reactions to you being pregnant so young will vary. A lot of people act immaturely and will call you names and make you feel awful about yourself. Some people though, understand that you made a mistake and will support you. Whatever you do though, always remember that though what you did may have been a mistake, that baby will never be a mistake. Bringing a life into the world is a beautiful thing. This may be TMI but I’m a product of a one night stand and a lot of young women feel resentment toward their baby because they don’t want it but my mother made sure I grew knowing that she wanted me and loved me more than the world and I think it’s really important to make your baby feel the same way. So don’t feel resentment toward your baby when times get rough, and trust me, they will. Remember that she/he is a gift from God and life is a wonderful gift to the world. Anyhow, still having morning sickness is pretty common. I didn’t stop throwing up until I was nearly 8 months pregnant. Not my favorite part of pregnancy! Labor is never the same for women. Natural labor may not be an option for you because of your age and the fact that your body may not be able to handle the trauma. You may have to have a c-section. But if you’re lucky and get to have it naturally, it’s going to be hard. I’m not using medication and my contractions alone are enough to make me curl up and cry. Some women’s labors go smoothly, especially if they exercised a lot during the pregnancy, while some is horrible. You won’t know until you get there. 🙂 When you tell your parents, you need to sit them down, let them know you are pregnant, fully aware of what this means, that you plan to keep the baby, that you love them, and ask them to support your decision to keep the baby and help you seek medical care. It may take them a little bit to get used to thought but most parents do choose to support their child. I know that a lot of mothers can tell when their daughters are pregnant simply because of intuition. It’s just a gut feeling, which may make it easier, especially if she’s already let your father know how she feels. In my case, I was living with my grandparents and my grandmother had known since I was about 3 months because she could sense a change in me. Going to school will more than likely not jeopardize your baby’s life. It’s good for you to stay focussed on school and to try and carry out your education b

Is it possible to request being put under for a C-Section?

I have a one year old son born last may 2009. I had a very healthy pregnancy other then really really bad morning sickness and being rather uncomfortable for the majority of it. I am 5’0 120 pounds. I wanted to have a natural birth, no epidural and only light painkillers. I was induced a week over due and had a very long intense labour. At hour 24 i opted to take the epidural at my dr’s and families advice. I was very slow dilating. At hour 26 I was put on oxygen to help ease my sons rising heart rate. At hour 29 I was informed that I had to under go a c-section as my son was starting to become distressed and that I had stopped dilating at 8cm and they felt that even had I been able to deliver that he would be to big. (he was 9 pounds 3 ounces) I was pretty shaken up about it by that point. Needless to say on the way down to go for surgery I ended upgoing into shock and had to be sedated before I could go into surgery. I don’t remember much but apparently i thought i could feel the pain of them cutting (even though it was just pressure) But as soon as they cut the cord I was knocked out with a dose of morphine. Its been over a year now and my husband and I would like to add another to the family but I am terrified of going in for another c-section as I KNOW i will freak out again. Just thinking about it makes get the jitters. Has anyone been put out? Do they consider things like that?

I am going in to talk to my dr about it before we try again but i just wanted to hear what you guys thought.

No flaming please. I would love to be awake for the birth of my children but life isn’t always fair.

Michelle answers:

With a scheduled C-section, you are most likely to be given a spinal block. We even use those for “emergency” C-sections (all but an abruption or a prolapsed cord- those get a general). Spinals take very rapidly (in comparison to epidurals) and there is rarely any chance of it being “uneven” or having a hot spot since it is administered differently than an epidural.

A general is reserved for absolute emergencies when the benefits to getting the baby out immediately (prolapsed cord or placental abruption) far outweigh the risks of the general on the newborn. Anytime a mom is given a general, the baby MUST be taken to the NICU and observed for 24 hours. If given a choice, I wouldn’t want to risk my baby having to be aggressively resuscitated because I wanted a general when the spinal is just as effective in anesthesia for a surgical birth and much safer for mom and baby.

Please bring these concerns up with your doctor at your next visit. Also, something you said concerns me….you were taken “down to surgery”? Hopefully you meant “down the hall” on the OB unit and NOT to another floor/department? If that’s the case, I would honestly seek out another hospital. Having to move more than a hallway away for a C-section shows the facility does not have the patient’s (or the baby’s) safety as their best interest. We have a small county hospital near my facility that has remodeled twice since I’ve been an RN and they still don’t have an OR on the OB floor. Their C-sections are taken to “main surgery”….even the emergency ones. Last I heard, they had 2 lawsuits going because of complications that most likely could have been avoided had they been able to do those C-sections in a few minutes…not wasting precious time moving to another location in the hospital.

Be proactive in your health and that of your baby’s.
Best wishes!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Ken asks…

This is my very first pregnancy. my EDD was yesterday.?

OB advised induction today. she (OB) had me another ultrasound when i had my last ultrasound less than 2 weeks ago. this seems to be going more and more expensive. i expect her to advise me to do natural ways to induce labor like walking squatting and the likes. and, she noted a very expensive maternity package which, 2 months before, she said she doesn’t advise to her patients. I decided to switch OB at the last minute. I went to a Well Family Clinic and consulted a midwife. She did IE. And she said, there’s no need for induction. Baby and me is fine. No complications nor possible problem accdg to the ultrasound result. I have 3 to 4 cm dilation by now. My baby is not out yet and I do not feel the pains I felt in my groin yesterday.

Should I be worried?
Is my baby and I still fine?
Was I right to switch OB in the last minute?
Is super walking and squatting alright, to induce labor?

Michelle answers:

Firstly im from the uk, so we get free care, so the money bit i cant answer. But i will say that our doctors dont like to induce labour until 10-14 after EDD, NOT on the actual edd! A baby can come within 2 weeks before or after edd. If you are already 3-4 cm dilated you will not have long to wait. I think you were right to change OB. Did your midwife do a stretch and sweep when she did IE? This normally brings on labour within 48 hours.

I ate fresh pineapple to bring my labour on with my fourth child and had a stretch and sweep, it worked!
My other 3 before were induced 10 days after edd.
Good luck.

Ps, yes do some big walks!

David asks…

Anyone induced early due to spd, and did it cause complications or was it a natural birth? ?

I’m 38.5 wks and had 2 membrane sweeps, due another today… my cervix is very favourable, thin and anterior, but not worked so far. If this one doesn’t work today I’m wondering when they will do an induction. I have severe spd, am on crutches and pretty much can’t do anything. I’m worried about ending up with a c section, I really don’t want one! It’s my 2nd pregnancy but my first was 8 years ago. What were your experiences?

Michelle answers:

Yes i was induced at 39 weeks, but i soooo wish it was earlier!
Spd is the worst pain i have ever felt and i have chronic back pain every day, this was a breeze compared to that horrible pain! U poor thing i know exactly how u feel and i am so nervous it will happen again as i am 5 weeks pregnant i started getting pressure about 12 weeks!

I think if i went to a private dr i would have been given a c section but i was at a public hospital, and they just let me go on and on…it did take a while(30 hours) and i have scoliosis and it took twelve goes to get the stupid needle in but just breath it out! Its a lot more pain, but with pain killers u can do it!

U will probably need the crutches and physio after! I had to stay on the crutches for a couple of weeks and physio for about 6months!

Private message me if u need to chat! There are not many that have spd that severe even though everyone claims they have it!

That stupid band they put around your waste does nothing haha!!

Good luck and just get through it as best you can!

Thomas asks…

Birth and astrology…………….?

Well… this may sound weird but I think it should be a question for everyone.
Some people believe that our destiny is influenced by stars at our birth time – astrology. I was wonderring, if during pregnancy is planed a cesarian, induction or there are mothers who look for natural ways of induction and so on. If this happens – DO WE CHANGE OUR CHILD’S DESTINY? Maybe we should go through till the end when the baby sais it’s time. I do understand the cases where a solution is needed because of the risc, but what about other situations??? What do u mothers think about this?
P.S. Sorry for my english, it’s not my native language.
I agree that you may not change the sign your baby is born in or the year (ex: year – pig born in scorpio) but astrology is not only about this, this is almost nothing. When a human being is born lots of stars influence the birthing chart. that is the most important part, and if this child is born with one day later this birthig chart is changed completly and so is the interpretation.

Michelle answers:

In my opinion, astrology does not influence the destiny of a new born child but it might influence his character. As an example, I am a Taurus and have lots of friend who are also Taurus, we all share the love to nature and touching the earth.
I know lots of Lions too, mostly they want to be the leader and be admired and think their ideas are the best.
As far as the destiny is concerned, I do not believe it can be influenced by astrology.

Sharon asks…

Tips to help Baby and Labor?

I’m at Term now, and I am not wanting to have a medical induction
The drugs my hospital likes to use are not FDA approved for pregnancy or induction of labor…

So long story short, What are some natural ways to help my son along?
I am 100% unwilling to do Castor Oil.. I am not wanting to have horrible contractions and put stress on my son just to have my baby.
I already sit and bounce on a yoga ball to encourage him to drop down.

Anything helps!
And I ask on here so I can have PERSONAL experiences from people in the same situation.

Michelle answers:

I walked a lot. The motion of your hips moving back and forth will help to bring him down, so will the gravity from you standing up. Bouncing helps. Take a warm relaxing shower, it’ll help to reduce stress and relax your muscles. I’ve read that spicy foods help, but I didn’t ever try that since I hate spicy foods. I also did squats. I ended up having to get oxytocin to induce my labor. She stopped moving as much as she had been before and her heart rate wasn’t regular. It was scary, but the oxytocin really got my contractions and labor going.
