Lizzie asks…
can i please have some peoples thoughts on early labour?
I have had 2 previous pregnancies my first child was born at 38.2 weeks and weighed 6.9
my second child was born at 36.5 and weighed 5.9.
My first labour was 3 hours from start to finish My second labour was 1hour and 20 minutes from start to finish..
My first pregnancy i had a episiotomy a 3rd degree tear a 2nd degree vaginal tear a labial tear and multiple grazes it took 4 months to heal.
My second pregnancy i had episiotomy a 2nd degree tear and grazes.
With my second pregnancy i was suppose to go for a c section because of the complications the first time i was booked in for a c section but i went earlier than booked.
Due to how short labor was i didnt have time for c section.
I was told that my body isnt suited for big babies im less than 5 foot and i weighed before pregnancy 55 kilos.
I am 33 weeks today i went into preterm labour at 25 weeks doctors stopped it and i was put on bed rest for almost a month. I also borderline gestational diabetes which is were i had 2 tests and only failed one. When i had the 28 week ultrasound the lady told me that my baby was weighing in more than suppose to which can be a cause of bgd i had a appointment at 29 weeks when the midwife measured my belly she said i was measuring in mpre than i was suppose to by a reasonable amount.
They then gave me an estimate of having a 9 pound baby I was told to ask my midwife at my next appointment to ask for another ultrasound to see measurements because if bub weighs over 7 pound they would like to do a c section i wanted to do natural birth my fears are that i will go early because of going into pre term labour at 25 weeks the size of bub due to bgd and i have had a early birth and 2 miscarriages. I also have deterioration of the cervix cause by having my cervix stitched after giving birth the last time… What would my chances of going early be.. I have been told by certain doctors that the reason why my kids probably came at the weeks and size they did was because thats all my nbody could hold and this baby is bigger than average..
Michelle answers:
I would say you are a likely candidate for preterm labor.
Good luck.
George asks…
what should i do?
im booked a c-section due to pre-eclampsia risk due to previous pregnancy and also this time i have spd and its getting worse (im 28wks at the moment),now i would love to have a natural birth or at least try before i discovered i had spd my obsteatricain said tht if i went for normal birth then i would be given a 12 hour cut off point (was in unprogressing labour for 25 hours ). i feel so guilty and useless for having another c-section…my hubby would like me to have a c-section as hes petrified something would go wrong (as he was told if i had given birth last time at home i would have died). i just dont know what to do advice please

Michelle answers:
Please take my word for this: You are NOT useless. Plain and simple, you are just NOT useless. You are producing a baby that with any luck at all will grow up and make you and your husband very proud. In the final analysis, you will end up doing whatever will give your baby and YOU the best chances of a successful outcome with this pregnancy. I sympathesize with your desire to go through the birthing experience. There is all that romantic idealization about seeing the head emerge or your husband cutting the cord or taking the baby and laying it on your tummy seconds after it is born. I hope you get to experience this. But the bottom line is this: you will just have to do what gives the life inside your body the best chances of survival. Good luck and please do not have any negative feelings about yourself even if you do have to do the C-section. In any event, you get a new baby!
Sandra asks…
help feeling really down about birth?
QUESTION: how do I get past the feeling of failure about a c section. Son was emergency Csection and now needing a second.
YOU DONT HAVE TO READ THE REST ITS JUST DETAILS
I had been looking forward to a VBAC my whole pregnancy however at 32 weeks my doctor advised me to have a second section. I took his concerns into consideration but decided against it and stuck with my plans of VBAC. I have Crohns disease and am prone to fistulas and abscesses in that area and he is also concerned about my bowel being too weak and the muscles in and around my anus being too weak also and there was a likely chance any tares would result in incontinence. After discussion with my Ob also he said bub has a big head and he would (going with my specialists comments) also recommend a second section. I still decided against until I reached my 36th week and lost continence just from being pregnant. I have no control of my bowel, thankfully this will go away after I recover from the pregnancy and birth. Any way on top of that I was diagnosed with obstetric cholestasis and my liver is having such a hard time that my Ob said again he would recommend a second section because of the effect pain meds and possible other meds during natural birth could cause my liver more trouble and to possibly shut down.
So after lots of debate and discussion I booked the section for this Thursday, in 4 days I will go into hospital and into theater where I will not deliver my baby, they will remove her. I feel as though I have failed before even trying but the risks of a natural birth are becoming increasingly higher.
I am also disappointed that I cannot breast feed due to medications that suppress my immune system and would do the same to the baby.
I feel like every part of having this baby is fake, I know her gender and birthday and I am not having or feeding her naturally.
I am not even excited about my baby’s birth. 🙁
Michelle answers:
Sweety – it is NOT a failure!! I understand what you are saying. Many women desire a vaginal birth and to breastfeed but sometimes it just does not work out. It is not your fault and you are certainly not alone.
You have been given good advice and for your own healt, you are follwing it. We are luck to live in a day and age where it is possible to have procedures in place to enable mothers to give birth. Just because she is not coming out of your vagina, does not mean she is not being born, or birthed!! That day will be her first day on earth, her BIRTHday. It does not matter how she got here or what she drank, it matters that she will have a Mummy who will love her, protect her, house her, feed her etc.
I am yet to see a grown up who is mad at their mother for haveing a c section or not nursing them as a child!!!
I have not answered on this forum for awhile but your pain really touched me as you have so much to be happy for. Please do not feel like you are failing.
Your daughter to be and son need a Mum to look after them. What if you went ahead with a vaginal birth and suffered badly from it that is affected your parenting? It is not work the risk.
Sorry I cannot be more helpful, maybe once she is actually here you will feel better but if you do not, please talk to someone who can help you.
Please take care and try not to worry – you are doing the best thing you can and are still a mother who is going to GIVE BIRTH to her beautiful daughter soon!!!
Thomas asks…
What was the BEST advice on pregnancy & your new born you received?
Hi everyone! I am 11 weeks and 2 days pregnant with my first! I am soooo over the 1st trimester,
I am nauseous all day long and have ZERO energy. I cant wait for relief! Anyways I am Just curious to what was the best advice about being pregnant, going through labor, or your new born that you received . I am striving for a natural birth (going through a midwife) and will be breastfeeding, later I will be making my own baby food as well! any ladies do it? I would love all the advice possible! or even what books are the best that I should get. Thank you for taking the time to answer and congrats on your baby!
Michelle answers:
I never really received this advice, but the best thing I have learned as a mother to my 8 month old is to prepare everything ahead of time! Make up a ton of baby food and store it already portioned in the freezer and in the refrigerator, I like to rotate the frozen food into the fridge a few days prior so it will thaw and be ready by the time I get to it. I prep bottles as soon as they are washed by having two days worth of bottles in the fridge and the rest already filled with the portioned amount of powder in the cupboard. Since you plan on breastfeeding that might not be an option, but if you plan on pumping ever, you could get a nice little backup supply going. It is so much more convenient to be able to just pull out the food or bottle when baby is fussy. They don’t really understand that you’re making it for them, they just have to wait a sec lol!
As for pregnancy, my best advice was to just relax!! Especially once you get into your third trimester and are always uncomfortable and anxious to meet your little one. It’s hard to remember to just take it one day at a time and relax while you have the chance, because once your little one is here you will be plenty busy!
Best of luck and congratulations!!!
