John asks…
Was anyone worried about their routine pregnancy blood tests coming back?….?
I think I may be pregnant but very early on so maybe a bit ahead of myself, but did anyone worry about the blood tests the doc or midwife do and what results would come back? What actually happens with the test, do you fill out a form as to what you want testing, or do they just verbally ask you? Did any of you just get tested without being asked what you wanted testing for? And how long did the results take to come back. I’m suddenly worrying about allsorts now I think I’m pregnant. I’ve read things about tests, miscarriage, allsorts. Is it natural to worry about everything?
I’m talking about the tests they actually do once you know you’re pregnant, not actually a test to detect pregnancy.
To Bethany – No I definately wasn’t talking about drugs, not sure why you thought that. I was just asking if anyone worried about their results showing any problems, ie, the std’s, hiv, downs, etc.
Michelle answers:
I thought I was pregnant and I was in the military so I took a home pregnancy test and it was positive and then I had to go to the base hospital and get a blood pregnancy test to verify it took about 5 hours to get a phone call back…….don’t think too far into miscarriage yet, just take the test and then go from there.
Mark asks…
Period/ pregnancy question?
Okay so bear with me, this is a little long.
On June 1st I had sex for the first time. It was protected by a condom and to my knowledge the condom did NOT break. Then on the 18th of June, I had some really weird spotting which is completely not natural for me. It’s never happened before until then, which scared me because I thought it could have been implantation bleeding. But then, on the 27th of June I got my period. It wasn’t as super heavy as it usually was but it was definitely a period. Then, around July 10th I took two pregnancy tests and they came out negative. After that I got my period on July 15th and it was a little heavier than the one before it, but still not fully as heavy. Then two days ago I took two pregnancy tests and they both came out negative (which would have been my third month of pregnancy, if possible). I am expecting my period this upcoming Monday/ Tuesday and the only reason I am worried is because I have gained a little bit of weight, and I get a tad nauseas and small headaches only when I’m in the car. I’m freaking out! Please help! Is there a possibility I could be pregnant?
Michelle answers:
At three months you should have enough hcg to determine pregnancy in a urine test. I would not stress out about it, but you could go get the blood test done at a doctor’s office. That’s the only way to be completely sure.

Probability of pregnancy? ?

The best way to really know is go buy a pregnancy test or go see your doctor.
Steven asks…
Should I buy a pregnancy test?
I am probably freaking out too soon. But I read answers about birth control and everything on here. I have been on the pill reclipsen for 17 days (Im on the week before the inactive week) and I had unprotected sex once with my boyfriend on the 10th day I have been taking the pill. Before I did this with him I read the info packet and it said you can have sex without a second form of protection after the 7th day. I was on the quick start of the pill so I know my period will start next week supposedly (a week late compared to my natural cycle). I am just worried because people say to wait a month on here when the info packet and other credible sites such as livestrong take it a week before you have unprotected sex. Also, I had unprotected sex 2 times on Sunday with my boyfriend. I have had unprotected sex a total of 3 times since I have been on the pill. I am seeing him tomorrow should I make him use a condom? He knows I’m worried about this and should I buy a pregnancy test to if my period doesn’t start next week like its suppose to while I’m on the pill?
Thanks I’m just really worried… I have no symptoms tho and I’m not experience side effects from being on the pill.
Michelle answers:
Even if you think you are pregnant, it’s way too soon to even bother buying a pregnancy test. A period isn’t considered medically late until five days have passed since you were supposed to receive it.
Now, if the packet says that you can have unprotected sex after seven days of being on the pill, then you will probably be fine. Some people prefer to wait a month to be on the safe side, which is probably in regards to your peace of mind. Now, your birth control can fail if you take other medicines that interact with it, don’t take it properly everyday around the same time, have frequent diarrhea, store it in a place that is too hot or too cold, etc.
You are just freaking yourself out. When you researched all of that information before having unprotected sex with him (kudos to you!), you were able to make an informed decision that you felt comfortable with. However, now that you have actually done it, you are starting to doubt your decision. As long as you are following all of the instructions, you should be fine.
Do keep in mind that birth control is not 100% effective though, so no matter what there always is that small possibility you could get pregnant. But the benefits outweigh the risks.
If you have any questions, you should speak with your family physician or your pharamacist.
