Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Mary asks…

i had a miscarriage january 2, 2008 and its now march 28th, 2008 and i still have not come on my period ….?

it was a natural miscarriage at 6 weeks and i went to the doctor last month to take a test came up negative so did the home pregnancy test…..this is really bothering the doctor says to keep waiting but has this happened to any one eles

Michelle answers:

I had a miscarriage (D&C) in August and didnt get my period back until October….sometimes it can take up to 6mths to get a period back after a loss because technically even though you didnt go to term, your body see’s a miscarriage as giving birth. So your hormones and cycles will be out of whack just as they would if you delivered full term, know what I mean?
I’d say if you dont get your cycle back within a couple weeks ask your dr for Provera and see what he says.

Lizzie asks…

Side effects when coming of the pill!!?

I stopped taking the (yasmin) pill after one year as i wanted my body to rest and get back to its natural cycle (if that makes sense) So once i stopped, my period came straight away which lasted around 6-7 days. Well i had unprotected sex twice with my boyfriend thinking that its unlikely to get pregnant when you just come of the pill as your body is adjusting!! (stupid, i know) now i am noticing that my boobs are sore and im getting cramps, so im thinking that these are the side effects for coming of the pill? I took a pregnancy test just to be sure and it was negative..Im due on my period in a couple of days..So do you think this is normal?

Michelle answers:

If your period is due in several days then the sore breasts and cramps could be because of this. However they are also signs of pregnancy, coming of the pill can make your periods irregular, so you cant really be sure when your period is due for sure. You should use protection if you don’t want a child you have acted very irresponsibly, i became pregnant two weeks after stopping the pill(planned). Good luck

William asks…

preventing a chemical pregnancy…please help, i’m so worried!!!!?

i am on my fourth round of clomid. now last month i either ovulated twice or ovulated very late in my cycle. i ovulated on day 26 and implanted on day 33 (i know this because i had bleeding). i ended up having a chemical pregnancy five days after implantation. i believe it may be because i implanted to close to my expected period. i have been having 35-40 day cycles. my doctor did another 21 day progesterone test this month but i can’t get in to see him until Sept 21st. I think i may have implanted again this month on day 33 (last night) because i had very bad cramping which went away by this morning. i guess my question is, do i have a high chance of a chemical pregnancy again this late in my cycle??? if so, is there any vitamins or natural treatments i can take to try and better my chances? i have endometriosis too if that helps….please offer any suggestions you may have. i have to wait to take a test since i only got a very very faint BFP last month four days after my implantation.
i haven’t yet received my progesterone levels since i can’t see him until the 21st of sept. i live in Canada so unfortunately we have to take what we can get with doctors, i can’t just make an appointment with another doctor. can you buy progesterone cream over the counter or do you need a prescription?

Michelle answers:

Did your doc give you your progesterone test results? If your luteal phase is that short, I’d say you’re probably low on progesterone. You can try natural progesterone cream, but maybe try to talk to your doc before starting. Ideally, it’s supposed to be started 2-3 dpo, but maybe something would be better than nothing?? Good luck to you. I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed that it’s not another chemical.

EDIT: Here in the US, we can buy it over the counter at health food/supplement stores. You want to look for one that has USP Progesterone in it. You can try online too. So sorry you can’t even speak to your doc until the 21st. Will you tell our lawmakers about your plight, so we don’t get socialized healthcare too?? Lol. 🙂 Seriously though, I really feel for you and hope you can find progesterone cream. Good luck!

Sandy asks…

Anyone refused consultant care in pregnancy? UK.?

Hi. I’m in the UK and I was just wondering if anyone has ever refused consultant care? I know its perfectly legal but I can’t really seem to find much information on anyone else doing this.

I’m on my third pregnancy. I had a consultant during the last pregnancy and it was totally pointless. She did absolutely nothing the midwife didn’t do when I went to see her. She literally just got some other midwife to take my blood pressure, test my urine and check the baby’s heartbeat and off I went. It costs a lot of money for me to get to the hospital because I don’t drive and its quite far away so the taxi fare’s are expensive and my husband works full time so he has a struggle trying to fit the appointments around his work when its just midwife appointments let alone consultant ones as well (I need him to come because I can’t hold two children and have everything checked, its impossible, and they’re both too young to sit alone, there’s also no other family members that can come).
The midwife referred me to a consultant because my two labours haven’t been straight forward (one was shoulder dystocia, other was PPH from a partially retained placenta and needed a blood transfusion). But my pregnancies have been totally fine and normal, i’ve had no problems at all and i’m other wise in perfect health. It seems a bit silly to me because there’s nothing a consultant can do to prevent something happening during a labour besides give me an elected c-section which she told me last time won’t happen because I’m definitely not high risk enough and its such a risky procedure. So it just seems pointless for me to drag myself to the consultant every month or whatever.
However every time i’ve rang up to cancel the appointment i’ve been told by the receptionist that she can’t cancel it for me because the midwife has referred me so I have no choice but to turn up. So i’ve tried to get through to the midwife to tell her to cancel it but the only number I have for the midwife is absolutely useless- throughout all three of my pregnancies I have never rang that number and got through to anybody, ever. So i’ve not gone to any of them. My next one is set for Monday which I definitely couldn’t attend even if I wanted to because I have another important appointment that I go to at the same time every week that I definitely can’t rearrange. I told the receptionist this and she was very unhelpful telling me that I had to cancel my other appointment and go to this one.. Sigh.

So i’m at a loss as to what to do. I also have the midwife on Monday so I think i’m just going to tell her that I really don’t feel I need a consultant. My pregnancies have all been totally normal and explain how much of a fuss it is for me to get there. But i’m just scared she’s going to be rude or nasty to me, or try and tell me I have no option but to go even though I know I do by law.

I also want a home birth which I know the midwife definitely wasn’t keen on after my last labours. But i’ve done my research and I now know of ways to prevent both from happening again, and I also know the chances of either happening again are absolutely minute, they’re both extremely rare things to happen. My last labour was all natural and completely normal, it went wrong because they injected me to make the placenta come and so the part of the drug which makes your placenta deliver kicked in too quickly and a part of my placenta wasn’t ready to come away, so it got stuck and thus the blood loss. So I now know to have a natural placenta delivery to prevent that occurring again, and that was all that went wrong, the delivery was perfectly normal.

So anyway i’m panicking now because the appointment is on Monday and I know i’m going to have to be quite confrontational and get to the point, which is something I’ve never liked to do. I was just hoping to hear some other similar-ish experiences so I feel like i’m not just being a little fuss pot! lol.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Michelle answers:

It is completely up to you. I had a PPH with my first born and was never even offered consultant lead care with my second pregnancy.

The midwife will be fine dealing with you and if she suspects a problem she can refer you. Just because you’ve had bad luck twice doesn’t mean something will happen third time around.

Good luck.

Your Questions About The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Need help with this and i dont understand why i keep getting negative preganacy testes when i have all the….?

Okay……I’m 24 years old and a couple months ago to be exact in Sept 12 I had a miscarriage I was 6 wks and 3 days didn’t need a dc it was a natural miscarriage. And it turned out that I was but I’m not sure I thought maybe I was having a ectopic pregnancy but don’t know can someone please give me some advice to this if I am I would be 6 wks and 6 days today

Michelle answers:

Hi i have been having all these exact symptoms, i tested on the 18 nov and got a very faint positive on a clearblue test then i got 3 more faint postives every day after. I wanted the line to show a true positive but i have tested on every other brand of test and all negative. Yet my stomach is bloated, sickness, headaches, very tired, aches and cramps. Had a couple of days spotting. However i rang docs and i saw midwife, she didnt want to confirm the pregnancy and just looked at my positive tests, i now have a scan for 4th january, she took my bloods last tuesday and i still havent had a call back so i assume everything is ok. But i still keep getting negatives so im scared to get excited. Try go to the midwife and get her opinion.

Sandra asks…

My period is late! Im breastfeeding..?

Im still breastfeeding my 21moth old boy.Got my period four months ago but this time around it’s on a 21day cycle unlike pre-pregnancy.My last period was on the 6th of Nov and the 23rd & 24th..i had light brown spotting. And yesterday, the 10th i spot again..I have been having occasion sharp pain at my lower abdomen.Preg Test caame out negative. Is it natural to experience this while breastfeeding? I am very worried. Please share your views? Thanks alot..
I am very worried.Should i visit my OB?

Michelle answers:

I’m still breastfeeding my 22 month old son and i couldve written your post! I’v ehad 21 day cycles, 24 day cycles and, on occasion, cycles that are 1 or 2 weeks LATE. Im’ not pg, hubby had a vasectomy.. Sometimes your cycles are just screwy when you’re breastfeeding…

Robert asks…

When did you stop breastfeeding? Physical changes afterwards?

My son’s 5 months old and I am planning on breastfeeding my son for at least two years if possible…

I have lost all of my pregnancy weight and when people I haven’t seen for a while see me they say it’s because I am breastfeeding (people that have never breastfed tell me this) but I don’t believe that’s true…

Breastfeeding burns around 500 calories a day, yes, but I also eat really healthy. If I was eating junk, the 500 calories wouldn’t make a difference.

When did you stop breastfeeding and what physical changes, if any, did you experience?

*I chose to breastfeed because it’s natural and beneficial to my son, not to lose weight!

Thanks for your answers!
*He’s already started grabbing our food and exploring eating, we aren’t stopping him.

Michelle answers:

Before I go in to what happened to my breasts, I want to state that it was all worth it and I would do it all again if given the opportunity.

That being said, I breast fed my son for 18 months, until half way through my second pregnancy. I guess the taste changed, because he started rejecting the milk and weened himself. After my daughter was born, I breast fed her until she was 20 months old. I was going through a divorce and my husband demanded to have over night visits, so nursing went out the window at that point.

Anyway, within about two weeks of completely weening and NOT being pregnant like I was when my son weened, I got to see what a woman’s breasts look like after three years of nursing. Essentially they both looked like empty socks hanging from my chest (no exaggeration!). I was devastated! I really couldn’t believe what had happened nor the fact that it really looked like there was nothing in my breasts, just two long and completely flat flaps of skin with nipples at the end. 🙁

I cried off and on for weeks, thinking that it was permanent. However, after a few months, they started filling up with fat and actually started looking like breasts again…but just barely. It took about three years for them to go back to looking like normal breasts and it took four more years after that for them to go back to the size they were before my pregnancies.

Long term breast feeding can and will completely drain your breast fat stores, which then takes years to restore. However, our bodies were made to be this way and to eventually regain the fat stores over time.

The good news is that my breasts are now larger than they were before my pregnancies and my inverted nipples were changed to outies because of so many years of breast feeding. Also, my children are extremely healthy and above average intelligence, which I personally attribute to long term breast feeding. We are also extremely well bonded and my daughter actually remembers breast feeding and cherishes the memory.

Yes, your breasts probably will be zapped for a while, but the time we have with our little ones is so fleeting and so precious. It really is worth it to nurse them for as long as possible and give them such a wonderful head start in life.

John asks…

Help! 6 centimeters and really scared!?

Hi! I guess it’s best to just explain it all! I’m 17 years old and expecting my 1st little one anytime now, literally I’m already in the hospital and 6 centimeters dilated! I’m really scared because I don’t know if I’m ready for all of this! I’ve decided to go natural because I’m terrified of needles and don’t think that I could take an epidural and let me just tell you, it hurts like hell, I literally feel like I’m dying lol! My boyfriend (18) is being so supportive and has did well at comforting me, but theirs only so much a person can do! I’m scared of needles, but I’m seriously contemplating getting an epidural! Should I? Apart from all of that, I’m only 37 weeks and I know that it’s considered full term, but I wanted to make it all the way to 40 weeks just to be sure that my baby boy would be okay, so I’m worried about that too! Both my boyfriend and I’s families have been really great throughout my whole pregnancy, so I guess that’s something to look on the upside for, but I’m still nervous about becoming a parent! I believe in love at 1st sight and that’s what everybody has been telling me happens when you see your child! Maybe I’m overreacting! I just need some advice or someone to tell me it’ll be alright! Please help! 🙂
I’m sorry it’s so long! 🙂

Michelle answers:

Awe, such a good sweet mommy. 🙂 I’m 31 weeks, ur gonna do great. Don’t be scared. When u hold ur lil angel, it will all be worth it. Get the epi, just tell the doc to not let u see the needle, my first one I had to do that, it helped so much, because my biggest fear is spiders n needles, I even passed out once giving blood, they hadn’t even drawn yet! N I cry like a big baby when its time for flu shots. Lol. Ur a sweet girl, n ur gonna be a great mom!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Carol asks…

I dont know if im pregnant, and tomorrow’s 4-20..?

Tomorrows 4-20. I have no way of getting a pregnancy test until like the begining of next month, and I want to know if smoking weed could hurt the baby (if there is one). I mean its all natural right? And if it could, how much..? I mean come on! Tomorrows like. National weed day. I haven’t smoked anything in the past month because of the possibility. But… I mean 4-20..

Michelle answers:

…EAT MCDONALDS.. TRUST ME. IT TASTES SO MUCH BETTER. THE CHEESEBURGERS ARE BETTER THAN SEX.

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU.

Mary asks…

how long will I bleed & how long until not pregnant test after ectopic?

I had an ectopic pregnancy this month. They gave me the shots to dissolve the pregnancy LAST Friday. I started bleeding Sunday and have been bleeding like a period since. My periods are generally light and only last 4 days. I was told this would be heavier and longer, which it is, and isnt anything I feel concerned about, BUT how long does a women typically bleed after these shots and events?

Also, my BETA at the time of the shot (to dissolve the pregnancy) was 2774. I went back the next Tuesday and it was 2160. I went back Friday again and am awaiting the results of that BETA tomorrow. I see the dr. tomorrow.

How long will it take my BETA to reduce back to 0-5??

Im ready for this to be over, so I can have a natural cycle so I can do an HSG test, so we can get the ‘green light’ to TTC again. Thanks!

Michelle answers:

There’s no telling for sure how long it will take, every woman is different. But they say it generally takes up to 10 days for the pregnancy hormone to leave your body after you have a miscarriage.

Lisa asks…

For those who have used progesterone cream?

Did you get nausea while on it? I used regular progesterone cream (synthetic) before and didn’t get nausea but this month I am using natural progesterone cream and have been experiencing a light nausea for the last 3 days. I am 10DPO and am wondering if it could be just a side effect or maybe (hopefully) a symptom of pregnancy. I’m too scared to test until I am actually late because I have been trying for soooo long. Just wondering if anyone else has had nausea while on the cream and not been preggo. Thanks!

Michelle answers:

Yes yes yes, and the worst thing about the natural progesterone cream is that none of the side effects are on the packaging. I had to look it up online; I had no idea that it can make you feel faint, and in my case, I was sleeping until 2:30pm (having gone to bed at 10pm — crazy!) Unfortunately, the natural cream is supposed to be much better for you than the synthetic stuff. But having said all that, you might be pregnant … If you already did 2 months of Prog. And no nausea, then maybe this is your lucky month … Keep us all posted, OK?! Xoxoxo

Robert asks…

When will the test show negative?

So Im pretty sure I am having a very early natural miscarriage (4 weeks 2 days along)…

It’s more emotionally painful than physically and I do not plan on seeing a doctor as it is so early and is not problematic…

But inside I am still hoping that maybe this is just some kind of “period” during pregnancy and maybe my little guy will hold on… But then again I don’t want to hold onto false hope either…

So I started cramping and bleeding (with tissue) last night and still am today (cramping very mild)… But my question is, if I take a test to see if I in fact lost the pregnancy, how long will it take to get a negative? I don’t want to test too soon and get a positive…

I know this is not just a late period, I had 3 positive hpts and symptoms..

Michelle answers:

So sorry to hear that you are going through this. Sounds like a chemical pregnancy to me, where you get your period a few days to a week late, after a positive test. Usually, with a chemical pregnancy, the hCG levels return to normal pretty quickly. I knew one woman to get a positive HPT, start her period a couple days later, got a blood test the same day her bleeding started and the levels were 0 at that time. A big downside to having access to home tests that are so sensitive they can pick up pregnancy hormones before you even miss your period is the fact that they catch a lot of pregnancies that just aren’t going to make it. I would test in about a week, that way you have time for all the hormone to leave your body if it is truly a chemical pregnancy. So sorry and lots of luck and positive thoughts coming your way.

Your Questions About The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Sandra asks…

could this be our month? help me out, here!?

I have been having a fairly good amount of pregnancy symptoms [moodiness, fatigue, tender/swollen breasts, heightened nipple sensitivity, headaches, food cravings]

I did miss my period but i dont know what to think of it due to the fact that i used to have PCOS, i would only get a period if i took birth contol and my doctor had told me i would most likely need fertility meds to get pregnant – months after stopping the birth control and after losing 60lbs, i finally started getting my natural period, PCOS went away and my cycle is typicly 30-something days, but i haven’t gotten my period since the end of november/beginning of december. me and my partner have sex on a very regular basis, and i’m starting to think we might have finally gotten lucky :]

this morning after going pee, i noticed a small amount of brown discharge [old blood] and was disapointed because i thought that was the start of my period, however after about two wipes it was gone, and no blood fallowed, haven’t had anything but normal discharge after that.

any idea as to what that was? normal or no? good sign or bad?

Oh, i hope this is our month :]

i will be testing very soon.

Wish me luck :]

thanks ladies!

Michelle answers:

Hi,

Firslty its a hard question to answer given the circumstances.

But the brown discharge is a hopeful sign, Good chance that this is implantation bleeding.

Honestly, I would go out and buy a first response pregnancy test and test now and in a week’s time.
If you get a negative now, Dont stress and re-test in a week and go from there 🙂
But fingers crossed that you got it this month !!

I know exactly how you feel, I had 5 days of cramping and a few other signs and im just waiting to see if my period shows up… 2nd of feb its due…. Its really frustrating waiting !! But sadly we gotta do it…

I hope this is your month as im hoping this is mine !!!

Best of luck and keep us ttc gals updated !!!

John asks…

Cycle after baby ~ lots of q’s?

My baby is 6 months old. I have breastfed him and pumped until about a month ago, when I also introduced formula to go back to work (for some reason, he won’t drink my milk from a bottle). Now, in the last couple weeks, we have introduced solids, and he is only nursing about 1-3 times, in the early morning hours, in a 24 hour period, and the rest of the time he has formula.

I have not had a menstrual period since he was born. I had a very very light PP bleed, on and off for about 6-10 weeks.

I have been on the mini pill since the 3 week PP checkup. My insurance switched to a different kind of it, and I have been a hormonal mess!! So, I have decided to chuck it and start monitoring my CM to avoid pregnancy. I have been off my pill for a week, and already feel like myself again : ) .

I’m wondering, since I have not had a period yet, if I would just continue monitoring like usual? Would there be anythig different going on that I should be aware of? I’m having a hard time finding info on Natural Family Planning – Post Partum.

I don’t temp, just mental note of my CM daily. And, I take a preg test about every two weeks, because I do enjoy some wine on the weekends 😉

Thank you!
I forgot to mention i have had very bad cramps on and off for about a month. But they are not like uterine cramps, but the same area, and STRONG, and hurt down my legs like a period cramp.

Michelle answers:

I didn’t get my first period for 7 months. And that was just a random one time thing. I started getting them again regularly at 10 months. Then I had 5 periods and yesterday I got a BFP. 😀

Everything sounds pretty normal. I used that as a b/c method and it worked, until I actually got consecutive periods then decided to get pregnant again. So I’d really say you’re safe until you get a period. Just use condoms or vaginal contraceptive film. That’s what i’d do

Robert asks…

I am nervous and excited to search and find my sexuality outside sex with my partner….as well as enhance sex, by using porn….

Any advice ideas resources???!!!

Michelle answers:

INSIST your fiance see a doctor (with you) and have his blood tested for hormone levels. Once he agrees to see a doctor that should be your cue to get on the phone and set the FOR him.

He may have low testosterone levels (aka Hypogonadism) He may be under chronic stress from work or from the demands of parenthood or both.

Does he have any underlying chronic health conditions? Such as hypertension, or diabetes, or immune problems, or just poor exercise habits? IS he overweight? Does he smoke? Ishe a heavy drinker? Fact: smoking reduces sex drive.

He may have clinical depression. The symptoms of chronic depression aren’t always dramatic. They can be subtle and easy to ignore. They may manifest themselves as overall low energy, moodiness, lack of enthusiasm, and underlying stress in general, without a specific cause. Depression is a very common cause of a reduced sex drive in both men and women.Depression may also encourage your fiance to deny that there’s a problem (one less thing to deal with in his life.)

You have a right to get your needs met and physical intimacy is a legitimate need in a relationship. You have a right to see your husband compromise on this issue, though the frequnecy may never be what you might wish for. It isn’t fair for EITHER of you to be in a relationship where your own needs are not met. This is something you should make clear to him. If he doesn’t put in an effort to meet your needs and compromise, even if he’s not always in the mood, then you’ll BOTH be miserable.

He may be addicted to porn and self-pleasuring. That tends to be rooted in very serious underlying issues with shame, fear of intimacy, and negative self-image. If he was a porn addict he’d probably be indulging himself several times a week. If he looks at pron only ,like once or twice a month, then I wouldn’t consider him an addict. But you never know. The major feature in that case would be he’s self-pleasuring and deliberately avoiding sex with you at the same time.

Richard asks…

help! Practical nurse? Massage Therapy? well being a doula?

I have to make up my mind on what i want to be when i am older. I have always wanted to be in the medical field. I have also ALWAYS LOVED to get involved with helping pregnant women through their pregnancy-labour and after birth. I have my mind set now on being in the Prenatal Unit for sure. I have always been pro natural birth!

Now for my questions:
1) i would love to be a doula for sure, but i do not know what else i should take. What would be better, practical nurse, Massage Therapist?
2) What makes more money, Practical nurse or Massage Therapist?
Could I become all three? Practical nurse/Massage Therapist/doula? What do you think?

Midwifery is out of the question it takes way to long 4-6 years where i live.
Also now wondering if i can be a LPN in the maternity award? if not then i would have to go to school to become a RN wouldn’t I? This is a very hard decision!

Michelle answers:

As a Licensed Massage Therapist focusing on Complimentary Medicine since 2003 and a Doula since 2009. I have seen both sides.

1. A LPN or RN can both be Doula’s and Midwives. You have to go for additional training as a Doula.
2. As a Doula it is not that popular and not many people use them or know about them. The pay is well because you set your own price and it is normally wealthy people who seek Doulas. But it is becoming more popular now.
3. Here LPN’s do not get paid much because my cousin is one and only find jobs in nursing homes. She makes like $12.00 hour.
4. I have another cousin who is a RN gets paid very well. However, in a hospital you are placed where you are needed the most unless you work directly for an OB-GYN.
5. When I started out as massage therapist I made between $8.00-$10.00 hours for a Chiropractor.
6. Now I work in an elite Day Spa and I easily make $150.00 or more a day when I work. I also specailize in prenatal and infant massage so I am more marketable than other massage therapist there. That is not including tips. But it is hard to get into. It took me like 3-4 years to land that job. But, some get lucky and are hired in Spa right away. Like being in the right place at the right time.

What I found discouraging is the fact that I took more medical classes than my cousin who is a RN and people think she is God and gets paid more!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Michael asks…

A little help, Please! My period is late and a negative on hpt test.?

Ok, I’m gonna try to simplify this as much as possible and give you a timeline.
PERIOD TIMELINE
August 4-delivered baby by c-section
Sept.3 postpartum bleeding stopped.
Sept.5- Postpartum check up, cervix closed, uterus back to prepregnancy size, prescribed nuvaring, filled script, inserted ring
Sept.13- started period, removed ring after period started; lasted 16 days
Oct.11- started period; lasted 5 days
Nov.2-3- I believe I ovulated one of these days, very late in the cycle.
Nov.8- expected period, did not show up, tested that evening (negative)
Nov.9- tryed testing again with first morning urine. (negative)
Nov.10-no signs of period coming

SYMPTOMS
Missed period (in my opinion)
Naseous on and off throughout the day
moody

A little more info… I have not used any birth control after sept. 13. After I had my son in July 2007, my periods returned to normal very quickly. My daughter was conceived 3 months after I had my son (both planned pregnancy) This time we are allowing nature to take its course, if I end up pregnant again quickly it is fine, this will probably be our last. If not, then when we do find ourselves pregnant again it will be an exciting time. We wanted all of our children close in age to encourage a natural bond between them.
So for the questions…

1. Do you think pregnancy is still possible, even with the negative tests?
2. When do you think I should test again if my period doesn’t show up and if I did ovulate on Nov.2-3?

thanx for reading, your answers are appreciated. I’m just a bit of a control freak over things like this. BTW-I’m not stressed out, so stress is not a factor here. Neither is overly strenuous exercise.

Michelle answers:

Sometimes your periods will come in cycles.so you might be starting a knew cycle and will be starting your period at a different time this month.if not test again in a week you might get a positive result

William asks…

slow rising HCG levels with spotting in early pregnancy! Help!?

I am experiencing light bleeding (since last Wednesday) off and on for the last 9 days. It has never been very heavy and no clotting and only slight cramping have been associated with it. Last Thursday I was seen at my docs office and showed an HCG test level of 1766 in the previous test done 12 hours prior it was at 1362. My doc kept trying to tell me that I should be between 7 and 8 weeks pregnant however, due to a drug allergy that I had at the begining of July I was placed on Prednisone in which prolonged my period causing me to bleed from the 3rd to the 18th. I didn’t engage in sexual intercourse until the 22nd of July, the 25th of July, and then again on the 4th of August. I went yesterday to have a vaginal ultra sound done and nothing could be found not even an egg sac. They drew more blood to test the HCG, but were already discussing a natural passage or D&C procedure and told me that the pregnancy had been aborted. This morning I got another call from them stating that my hormone levels were somewhere around 3100 and even though they weren’t doubling as they should they couldn’t say that I had definitely miscarried. So now they are sending me tomorrow to have more blood work drawn and then again on Tuesday. It looks pretty grim at this point and I have all but given up hope. I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and then went on to deliver a healthy baby? They also said that there was a possibility that I was not as far along as they had projected. At 4 weeks or so would it still be possible to not see anything in an ultrasound?
thank you so much for your input! My HCG levels were tested last Thursday and again yesterday so in a weeks time they hadn’t even doubled. They went from 1766 to 3100…that doesn’t seem like a great increase, but I am still keeping my fingers crossed that I am so early into this pregnancy that nothing is looking right at this point

Michelle answers:

I had slowly rising HCG levels. They were doubling about every 10 days instead of every 48-72 hours. Everyone kept hinting at me to prepare for a loss. My daughter is now 4 months old, happy and healthy.

I’m not sure about the ultrasound not showing a sac. I know at 5 weeks, there is definitely a visible sac, but I don’t know about at 4 weeks if there is one visible.

Oh and I just realized you said you were spotting. I had light bleeding, which is why we had the blood drawn to test the HCG levels. Everything could still be OK – your period being messed up could have definitely delayed ovulation and you may have ovulated much later than normal and not be as far along as you think.

Charles asks…

i am 6 weeks and 4 days pregnant i had a scan last sunday becoz of bleeding and saw my baby !!!?

the pregnancy tests were really dark last week and like i said i saw my baby on the scan and the heartbeat but i just done another pregnancy test and the posotive line is still there but lighter why is this ?? please answer as i really want this baby and am a natural worryer so has this happened to anyone or could it be the brand of tests?? thankyou v much x

Michelle answers:

Quit worrying, its not good for the baby. If you had a sonogram and everything is okay then don’t worry about how light the line was on the pregnancy test. As long as the HCG is detected you are okay

Paul asks…

Cause of Ectopic Pregnancy?

What is the cause of Ectopic Pregnancy does it cause from the male sperm or from the female side or cause by natural

Additional Details
My Wife has become a victim of ectopic pregnancy two time doctor has removed both the tubes second time tube has burst and doctor had to operate in emergency what should i do now i have also tried for test tube baby but could not get the fruitful result

Michelle answers:

I have had two ectopic pregnancies and lost my right tube from the first.

They are often caused from a blockage in the tubes from scarring and slow movement of the fertilized egg. Douching has also been linked to ectopic pregnancy. The man has nothing to do with it.

The scarring can be caused from STDs or vaginal infections that go untreated and also abdominal surgeries. The slow movement of the egg can be caused by abnormal levels of estrogen and progesterone sometimes caused by birth control like the pill or in my case with the first ectopic the depo provera injection. Also more mature women nearing menopause have an imbalance of these hormones.

I have left a couple of links that have great information one on ectopic pregnancy and the other is specifically on douching so scroll down to the 3rd and 2nd section to the last on the page on how safe is douching and effects on pregnancy.

I am so sorry that your wife lost both of her tubes. Having lost one I know I know halfway how she feels. Keep trying IVF. Sometimes it takes a few tries. If it becomes too much, you can always adopt. There are a lot of kids who need parents that will love them.

William asks…

Im so scared now, i duno wats goin on with me?

First off a had a baby 4 months ago, natural birth, but had an episiotomy and vac extraction. The past month ive felt really sick and run down, i think its because i dont eat and sleep properlya nd hardly drink any water.
Anyway, i started getting chets pains, went to the hospital, all my bloods were clear and ecg was fine. Since then ive had the same tests tested agian and also had a chest xray.
I went to physio and was told my back is in bad shape from the pregnancy and this good very well cause my whole body to ache. Sine all of this i had a pelvic exam and pap test and ever since ive urinated blood. I hav no infections and have had an upper and lower abdominal aultrasound all is clear and also a ct scan on my kidneys and bladder which came clear (( also pap test is clear) I also had a pelvic ultrasound which came back clear.
I dont understand all these pains. All tonight my top lip has been numb, im going to the dentist in the morning cos i do hav some decayed teeth.
But now here on yahoo i read about Hypocalcemia and im shitting myself 🙁 I do have a vit d defiency which i got while i was pregnant but the last 2 weeks ive been taking ostelin (vit d supp) and also a multi vitamin.
If i had Hypocalcemia woul dthat have shown in my blood test or anywhere else?? Im so scared.
Also since all my pains i also suffer with anxiety.
Im 18 yrs old, recently quit smoking and drinking coffee, do not breastfeed.

Michelle answers:

Hi dannii_ashton08

It’s possible that all your symptoms are related to your Vitamin D deficiency, including your calcium status. Give it time to come back up. Try not to worry. Vitamin D deficiency is quite common in the United States and UK.

Ostelin is also known as ergocalciferol, one of the forms of Vitamin D. D3 or cholecalciferol is considered a better form, if you can get it. It’s very inexpensive and readily available in the U.S. Not sure what the availability is where you are.

Once your levels are brought up, a daily dose of 2000-4000 IU of D3 (or maybe more if you’re taking D2) is what many researchers would suggest. Optimal serum levels of 25(OH)D are thought to be 50–80 ng/mL (or 125–200 nM/L).

You might also consider Vitamin D supplements for your baby.

Feel free to contact me if you have further questions. I’m wondering what dose your doc is giving you of the ostelin.

Robert asks…

I think i’m pregnant, advise required for those who have suffered a miscarriage in the past!?

Hello,

I am 22 yeards old and After months of trying my partner and i finally conceived our 1st baby in June 07 though at 7 weeks i had a miscarriage! Since the miscarriage i have had 1 natural period which was 20.09.07 since then my partner and i have been trying again,

I am getting all of the same symptoms as i did in the past and feel pregnant. I want to test to confirm the pregnancy but i no i will only be about 3 weeks Pregnant and i dont want to build my hopes up in case the worst happens and i misscarry again!

I have been taking folic acid and eating healthily, If i do test now is it early enough to get a positive response?

Also people who have miscarrid in the past and managed to conceive afterwards please tell me ur stories so i no i have got hope and am not alone as i am worrying my self sick it may happen again Thanks x

Michelle answers:

I posted this to your lasted question, but when I tried to edit it I accidently deleted it:

First, I would give it at least a week before you test. You don’t want to test too early and get a false result.

Second, I am so sorry for your loss. I lost a baby in August last year. I was devastated and, once I was given the green light to try again, I was rather terrified that it would happen again. In January I found out I was pregnant again. I was nervous. I tried not to let myself get attached to the baby right away because I didn’t want to hurt so much if I lost this pregnancy too.

When I was 9 weeks along, I had an ultrasound and was able to not only see the baby, but my husband, daughter and I were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat. I was tremendously relieved, but still tried not to get too attached. By the time the baby started kicking, I couldn’t wait to hold my little one in my arms.

After the miscarriage last year, I had a very healthy 8 lb 12 oz baby boy 5 weeks ago. He is absolutely wonderful and I am blessed and so grateful that he is here.

While it could happen again, what I found out after my miscarriage was that the chances are that it won’t.

(On a personal note… I believe that the baby boy I hold in my arms today is the baby that I lost last year. We believe that for some reason God decided that the baby we lost in August needed to be with Him for a little while longer, but that our newborn son holds the heart and soul of the baby we lost. Believing this helped me get through a very dark time after my miscarriage.)

Good luck!

And the edit: If you do find out that you are pregnant this time around, get in touch with an OB as soon as possible. Request that they test your progesterone levels. Early in my pregnancy with my son, I had my levels checked and found to be a bit low. I was put on supplemental progesterone, which is a hormone that helps to nourish the baby until the placenta takes over. It’s only a pill that I took three times a day (no hassle at all!), but I believe that it helped me to eventually hold this baby in my arms.

Good luck!

Maria asks…

why are there so many prudes here? the second someone mentions sex 50 people chime in with “wait till marriage

Why? Are you loser thats just jealous no one would consider taking you to bed so you feel compelled to make everyone else feel as unloved as you?

Sex is a natural and awesome thing that shouldn’t be cast in such a negative light. It’s nothing to be scared of and the older users should stop trying to terrify anyone asking questions about sex. It’s sad to watch.

Ofcoure you should always use protection and be safe, but dont avoid sex out of fear of pregnancy or disease. You will be missing out on something very special.

Michelle answers:

I couldn’t agree more. I mentioned this once in a question and got blasted by the puritan section of Yahoo Answers and it looks like you’re getting the same. I want to know what gives them the right to tell me when I should or shouldn’t have sex? I don’t go telling them they should go have sex so they shouldn’t be telling me not to. I started having sex when I was 13. You don’t like it? Tough. I know when (and if) I get married I’ll have enough sexual experience to know what I’m looking for in a partner. I won’t be playing blind man’s bluff and hope I find someone I’m sexually compatible with. Sex is meant to be experienced and enjoyed, not restricted. No sex before marriage originated during a time when men paid a girl’s family in livestock for her hand in marriage. Is that what you people want to see return?

Carol asks…

Previous hard/induced birth.. What are the chances this time?

I was induced with my last pregnancy at 42+15 as baby was showing no signs whatsoever of coming on her own. My membrane sweep didn;t work as my cervix was high and posterior and was hard to reach. So all my labour was artificial. It started with the gel inserted.
I started a few hours later and dilated really quick to 10cm in about 4 hours, so thought ‘I can do this!’.
But the baby was back to back and was stuck fast. I was left at 10cm in excruciating pain for 4 hours before being given an epidural. Then I was left a couple of more hours with no sign of baby. I was being monitored and the babys heartrate kept dropping.
Eventually they handed me the form for a c-section, and took me down to theatre.
Before the section they gave forceps a go, and on the second push out came the baby.
But I lost 3 pints of blood, and had retained placenta which was manually removed.
It put me off having anymore babies but when I found out I was pregnant this time, I opted for an elective section and the consultants agreed.
But I changed my mind a couple of weeks ago and have decided to go natural as I know if I have a section I am going to regret giving it another go, as I feel I didn’t actually give birth last time as everything was helped along.
I’m 38 weeks pregnant now. What are the chances of this birth being similar? Am I more likely to be induced again with being induced first time? I’ve never experienced spontaneous labour.
Will my body make it easier this time with being through the whole dilation etc before, or will it happen like a first labour because I was induced so it doesn’t count?
It’s been just over 2 years since I gave birth.
I’m trying to get baby into a good position this time (i must admit being very lazy last time), but I’ve been on my birth ball and i’m constantly running around after my 2 year old so im hoping being more active will have kept this baby in a good position. I’ve also been drinking 4 cups of raspberry leaf tea each day since 36 weeks, in hope that the second stage of pushing will be more effective as my body just didn’t want to push the baby out last time.
Anybody any experiences?
Is there a chance Icould start labour on my own or is there a rule, “once induced, always induced”?
Thank you very much and sorry it’s so long
Thanks very much 🙂 Just after reassurance. I felt like my body failed me last time

Michelle answers:

There is no rule. I’ve been induced twice but I opted for it… If I was pregnant again would love to go into labour naturally too.

What a horrific labour you’ve had… But as you said, you can ‘try’ it and if you don’t like it… Ask for pain relief….

I think you’re a trooper. Good on you and congratulations… I hope it all goes well.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Donna asks…

Noone has taken the time to read my ? and i need some input on miscarriage and new pregnancy?

Ok so ill try not to make it longm but sorry that it is but i need HELP!. Had been trying for 10 months before finally becoming pregnant for the first time back in September 2008. i found out around the week of the 15th or the 22nd ((dont really remember which day i found out)) anyways, figured it up to be about 6 weeks. was supposed to go to the clinic around the 1st of October to start prenatals and such. Started bleeding on September 29th. went to emergency room and pregnancy was confirmed and was told i was 6 1/2 weeks along. my BHCG was 19.0. they told me that i had a threatened miscarriage and had to follow up with a Gyn. went to the Gyn on October 1st and it was a confirmed miscarriage and my HCG levels were back down to 0. i was told that i could start trying again as soon as the bleeding stopped since it was all natural and so early on. i bled for about a week and stopped on October 7th. i lost all pregnancy symptoms. on the 11th and 12th of October, BD. BD on the 18th. Started spotting very lightly on the 21st of October ((exactly two weeks after i stopped bleeding from miscarriage)) and thats all it was for a week straight but only off and on. no heaviness and no cramps. ((normal period for me would be heavy with painful cramps)) i stopped spotting on the 29th of October.((exactly a month after i started miscarrying.)) BD on 31st of October, 1st and 2nd of November. right after the spotting i got all the symptoms that i had when i found out i was pregnant the first time. ive thought i was pregnant many times but when i actually “knew” i was pregnant, i just knew and i felt so completely different. i feel exactly the same as i did before. sore bbs, nausea at night only ((exactly like before)) frequent urination, very moody. my fiance really thinks that i am pregnant again because he said im acting moody exactly like i was when i was pregnant the first time but worse lol ((and also i got REALLY bad allergies the first time and after the miscarriage they went away and now the allergies are back again)) also BD the 8th of November. so with that being said, could the spotting be implantation and indication of a new pregnancy and if so when should i test to get a BFP. if it was a period, then i should be getting another on the 12th in 3 days. unless i got pregnant between then and now. what do you think? has this ever happened to anyone and they were pregnant? when should i test??? please help and thank you in advance.

Michelle answers:

Well if you are supposed to get your period in 3 days, you can take an at home pregnancy test, they have ones that can detect pregnancy 5 days before your period. So i would suggest doing that. I have no idea about anything else… But i would buy a few tests. Obviously read the instructions and test with your first morning pee.

Hope all is well!

Chris asks…

When to do a pregnancy test?

I came off the pill about 4 weeks ago after my last withdrawal bleed. Me and my boyfriend have been trying for a baby since but I am unsure as to when I should do a pregnancy test.
All of them say to do it on the day of your missed period or after, but because I’ve recently come off the pill I have no idea when my natural period is going to be… Please help!

Michelle answers:

Well you can try taking a pregnancy test 3 weeks after you have had sex but if you continued to have unprotected sex after that then you would have to wait until you have a missed period. My cycle was still the same when i stopped taking my bc pills. I had a test done a month after the first time i had unprotected sex after i got off the pill and i also took one because i was 4 days late on my period.

First of all I am so sorry for your loss. It happened to me early this year and is not something any woman.
I think you should test now. If your period is due in a couple of days the pregnancy test should have an accurate result.
Good luck

Donald asks…

Pregnant or something else?

Over the course of the last week and a half I’ve had terrible acid reflex (not too sure, but thats what I assumed). It feels like heartburn but in my stomach… Now, I’m a few days late on my period. I’ve also noticed I’m eating more. I’m a small person and my hip bones used to slightly stick out and in the course of the last 2 weeks you cannot even find them. I just took a pregnancy test but it did nothing (no pregnant or not pregnant result)…I’m in a committed relationship and a baby is more than welcomed. But, I’m just wondering if this stomach burning is natural? I plan on taking another pregnancy test as soon as I’m able to go… but until then, I’m sittting here not knowing what to do.

Michelle answers:

You could well just be suffering from acid reflex/heartburn without being pregnant. You should get it checked out. My friend had that and was given medication to ease it. However, I would wait for a few days and test again if you are pregnant, or whilst youre seeing the doctor, ask for a blood test.

Your Questions About The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Laura asks…

Do i have a good argument for getting rid of age of consent laws?

Firrstly, age of consent laws can be very confusing for kids as there are such huge differences in opinions. For example in the USA, it can be 18. In the neighbouring country Mexico it can be 12 in some districts. Thats a huge difference. Such indecisiveness among lawmakers can breed contempt for the law.

Secondly, there have been many cases where age of consent laws have ruined many young peoples lives. For example 17 year old Marlow Wilson was jailed for receiving consensual oral sex from a 15 year old at a party. He received a 10 year sentence, but out of sheer luck served only two. These laws are indiscriminate and do not take into consideration individual circumstances.

Thirdly, one of the main arguments for age of consent laws is to tackle teen pregnancies. However, western countries with very low age of consent laws such as Sapin where it is 13 have far lower teen pregnancy rates than the US where age of consent is generally between 16 and 18.

Fourthly, such laws are intrusive to male teens. According to some studies, men reach their sexual peak in their teens. It is unfair for elderly men or middle aged lawmakers to pass laws whose only affect would be to make youngsters feel ashamed about their hormones or natural curiosity.

Fifthly, such laws were initially intended to protect children from predators, but in practise these laws have shifted and extended their focus to meddling in teenagers private lives.

Sixthly, teenagers have a tendency to rebel. Therefore passing such laws might arguably have the opposite effect.

Seventhly, a lot of advocates of such laws tend to follow conservative political views which are often motivated by religious values such as “abstinence” or “no sex before marriage”. But why should religious values be imposed upon the irreligious?

Eighthly. puberty rather than date of birth determines the sexual maturity of humans and other animals. Also mental maturity is not always linked to someones age, but rather can differ widely among people of various age groups.

Finally, people cannot help at what age they fall in love. Some people do not fall in love until their thirties. Others do in their early teens. It is unethical to allow strangers in suits and ties to interfere in such intimate, personal and sensitive situations. Such matters should rather be handled by parents.

Michelle answers:

You have some decent arguments. However, they are mainly subjective (feelings and opinions). You need some more substance and facts. If I were making a good argument I would deal with historical precedence (ages of consent in the past). I would talk of nations where age of consent is lower. I would also show statistics where teens are mainly getting pregnant by pother teens and not older men. I would include that a penis is a dangerous thing without training no matter the age. I would finally show how ages of consent only criminalize decent people … Show an 18 yr old who is in trouble for having sex with his 16 yr old girlfriend or something.

Daniel asks…

will some one please read my essay and review it. to help me tweek it…?

Miscarriage is a word you are not supposed to say but most expecting parents are thinking about that exact word in the back of their minds when they hear the words “Congratulations, You’re pregnant.” It is the word that you hope to never hear but throughout your pregnancy you know may be inevitable. The eight word sentence that can bring your entire world crashing down around you all at once, “I’m sorry but I don’t see a heartbeat.” This is a sentence that I have heard one time to many.
It all started on Jan. 3 2011 when went to the gynecologist to check if I was healthy enough to try and conceive. I am only 20, but I wanted to see if I was going to have any unexpected problems along the way. I had an ultrasound done of my uterus and my doctor seen a few sacs of fluid which can be a sign of endometriosis, but she told me not to worry about anything that she was going to take cervical cell samples to confirm her diagnosis. She said to go home and she would call me within two weeks with the results. I got the call “Shannon, your test results are in and we need you to come in to discuss them.” Ok I reply to the Nurse on the other end of the line remembering that the doctor said they would only call me if there was something to discuss. So I make the appointment for the following day and go in only to hear I have Stage 3 Endometriosis. This is the last thing I thought the Doctor would say. The Doctor and I discussed my options as to how we will go along with the diagnosis. She tells me that with this disease infertility is likely, and that if I would like to attempt to get pregnant on my own I should try and see what happens and if that didn’t work we would likely try fertility treatments. Well I did, I went home and discussed with my fiancé what I was told and we both decided that natural is the way to go initially and if that doesn’t work we would pursue other alternatives.
I had been trying to get pregnant for a little over two months and I must have been doing a good job because on Mar. 7 2011 I found out I was expecting, and 5 weeks along. I was excited as was my fiancé, but I could not believe it would be that easy. With endometriosis comes an increased risk of miscarriage. The dreaded word, MISCARRIAGE. That was discussed, but in my mind, god had already given me one obstacle, he wouldn’t throw up another road block. The pregnancy was going great for 3 more weeks when the pain and bleeding came on, and I knew what that meant. I was miscarrying my baby at 8 weeks and 2 days. This all began on a Sunday so I waited till Monday morning and went to the doctor to get what I already knew confirmed. I had lost my beloved little angel. I was so upset but in the back of my mind I knew all along this was a possibility. But knowing that didn’t make it hurt any less.
This was one of the most difficult times in my life, knowing that something that I thought would be so easy because I was young could be so hard, so devastating and so difficult to discuss. The hardest part was I knew that this may be more difficult than I originally thought. At 20 years old I was presented with a disease that I have never even heard of and the thought that I may never have children. That is a lot for a young woman to have to deal with. No matter how strong you are, a miscarriage is something that no person should ever have to face. It is losing a child that you love already and that child you know never got to take a breath. Miscarriage, a word that we don’t speak of but is such a common occurrence, is a horrible reality for most expecting mothers, especially the ones who have fertility problems already. Doctors, scientists and expectant mothers alike may never know exactly what causes a miscarriage to happen, but no matter what the reason it hurts. It will always hurt. But we can learn to move past the hurt and see what we do have not what we have lost…

Linda asks…

Should I have this second baby?

I have a son who is 21months old and am pregnant again,7 weeks gone. I really feel like I dont want to have this baby but my partner does. I realise Im likely to get alot of nasty comments about how abortion is murder but you have to understand my circumstances. Firsty we were using birth control and it obviously failed, secondly i had a 3rd degree tear with my son and cannot have a natural birth again,im petrifed of being cut open, third theres no way we can afford it,we dont even have room for a moses basket in our new bedroom,we have a 2 bed house. The most important reason is i had chronic post natal depression with my son and am still not entierly back to normal. The depression feels like its starting to resurface but my partners family know about the pregnancy and are not happy about me wanting an abortion. My partner says he isnt sure about us if i dont want the baby. I dont know what to do

Michelle answers:

Although I don’t particularly agree with how it was said (I don’t think bringing religion into this debate will help you in any way) I have to agree with some of what the last poster said. I know you are worried about the post natal depression, but do seriously consider the fact that most women who have abortions, even for VERY valid reasons like yours, do suffer emotional distress as a result. Don’t be frightened of a cesarean, I had an elective section last year cos my little boy was breech, and it was nowhere near as scary as I thought it would be. Everyone was very friendly, everything was explained to me, and the recovery was not much more than my sister went through after a 3rd degree tear, possibly even slightly easier. It is your choice in the end, and whatever you decide to do is the right thing, but please do your research about the emotional effects of abortion. I would hate for you to make such a decision based on the PND and end up worse. Talk to your doctor about getting Professional counselling to help you make the decision. Also while you should not let your partner tell you what to do, it is probably worth involving him in the decision. He may not agree, but at least he will feel you considered him, which may make a difference.

Am I the father? If so where is she?

Fifteen years ago in vista California I was in the Marine Corps and meet a girl by the name of Christy. She and I dated for a short time.At the break up she said she was pregnant and said she’d never let me see the child.I took that as a false threat and didnt think anything of it.About 8 months later she tried to contact a friend of mine and left a message that she really neede to speak to me but I had no way of contacting her.I would love to know if the pregnancy was true and if I have a child but I dont even remember this girls last name.Is there any way to track this info? This has been on my mind for years but have no clue what to do.Some of you may think Im a dead beat for waiting until now but I dont even know where this girl lived. Please help! All I can say is her name was Christy long natural curly red hair, had a friend Margret and lived in San Diego. She would be about 32 years old I believe
Ive expected to get some abuse for waiting so long. But without the internets existance back then and without her knowing my last name and vice-versa I was Clueless.Plus I dont even know if what she said was even true.Yes I am aware of all the repercussions.

Michelle answers:

Wow thats a really tough one. Your best bet would be to go back to that area where she or the friend lived. Alot of times if u can remember the house, or places they hung out then you can ask around and ask old owners of the rental properties or the old managers of favorite hang-outs. Without her name, lastname and very little imfo to go on, thats your best hope, unless you wait 3 more years and see if she or the newly 18 yr old tried to contact her/his daddy. Keep this in mind though hun, the longer you wait, the harder it will be to find them and if by chance you have a daughter, when she turns 18yrs old there NO TELLING what will happen with college, marriage, whatever. Go to the old places and the old houses even if its not her house and only a friends house. With red hair chances are they will know who you are talking to and talk to the currant tenants of these places… Get the answers yourself and keep searching till you get the answers you need. Finally, after all your searching if still there is no answers, contact the newspaper and run an ad in the general area of where her and her friend lived. Say your name and hers mention the friend and the fact its been 15yrs. Then say something about the child… Chances are if she wont see it a friend or family member will! Good luck to you and I hope for your sake you find out that she didnt have a child. I say that not at all to be rude, I say that because it would be so terribly sad to try to fit 15 yrs of missed life and missed importants; talent shows, boyfriends, super heroes, first words and cutest moments into whatever time you or they may have to spen d with you. But good luck and I hope you find whatever you are looking for.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Donald asks…

Ich and Pregnancy in guppies?

I keep a 10 gallon tank with 4 guppies, 3 females and 1 male, 4 neon tetras and 2 black tetras. I recently noticed a problem with what appears to be ich, some of the fish have small white spots predominantly on their fins but some on their bodies aswell and some were thrashing their bodies off the gravel. I began dosing for this using Interpet Aquarium Treatment #6. I then began noticing some of the fish had become darkened around the body and mouth as if by ammonia burning. Having tested my water levels for Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite and pH and finding them ok I don’t know what’s causing this. Also 1 of the female guppies appears to be heavily pregnant and her spine has become curved towards the end of her body, is this natural in the latter stages of pregnancy or is it a broken back from thrashing off the bottom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
According to my test kits my pH is neutral, and ammomia is nil-trace. Your help has been fantastic MM and is greatly appreciated. My next course of action if would seem would be to try and restore the water to good condition by a 50% change, replacement of the carbon filter and then treating the ick through salt and heat? Does this seem like a good move?, can the tetras survive in salt water? I’m not overly worried about losing the batch of fry as I have no where to keep them and intended on giving them to my local fish shop anyways. I also can’t find any information on the medication which isn’t good. Also given the poor state my water my be in, would it be wise to redose it with a filter-boosting formula to re-establish the possibly damaged bacteria after the water change?.
Again, many thanks.

Michelle answers:

Without knowing the ingredients in the treatment (which don’t seem to be available online) the cause of the darkening and spotting can only be a few guesses. But the materials listed in your previous question are of some help. Dead material can be stained dark blue to near black by exposure to methylene Blue, so that’s one possibility, also even a mild over dose of formalin can (rarely) cause burns similar to ammonia burns.

Hope that helps and hope you find the cause

MM

Could your ammonia test kit be giving a false reading? Maybe a double check by a local shop to confirm your kit is still good wouldn’t hurt. I double check mine frequently and have been quite surprised by how quickly some lose their accuracy.

Without knowing what else may be in the medication, it’s possible the meds have damaged the biofilter and if the pH is above 7.8-8.0 the ammonia would burn even more quickly than typical.

Again, these are just guesses, but based on all we have to go on at this point, I would suggest the possibilities for your consideration.

As for the female guppy, that’s not common but not unheard of either for the female to bend like that during the latter stages of pregnancy. Often she will straighten some after delivery, but usually not back to the original straight spine from before. Many guppy breeders see this as a sign of old age and / or over breeding and stop breeding a female that shows this condition.

Sharon asks…

Can i get accurate results?

I took a pregnancy test a couple of years ago and got a false positive. Does this have something to do with my natural hormones or was something wrong with the PT? If i take another one do you think i will get accurate results?

Michelle answers:

If you are pregnant then it will come positive, or else it will come negative if you are not. Buy a good expensive brand.

John asks…

Early m/c in September, now 8 dpo and a + test?

Just wondering if anyone had any insight as to whether or not hcG could still be in your system almost 4 weeks out from a natural m/c (I was 6w4d along when I lost the pregnancy – 4 weeks tomorrow from when it all happened)?

Reason why I ask is because I’ve had an urge to take an hpt and picked one up from the $ store this afternoon. I held my urine for around 4 hours and took a test. There is a faint line. The problem is, I didn’t test out the hcG from my last pregnancy to see when it was all gone.

Aunt flow is due in 4 days and I have my first follow up appointment for the m/c tomorrow morning. Not sure if my OBGyn can tell anything tomorrow or not; but I’m going to ask. I am picking up a better quality test tomorrow and using it over the weekend just to see.

Yes, we are TTC.
No, I passed the whole thing 4 days after the m/c started so I’m positive that I passed everything.

I thought your body wouldn’t ovulate if there was still hcG in your system; and I’m temping and charting and have clearly ovulated. Not to mention that I’ve had the same temp the past 3 days in a row…

I’m hoping that my OBGyn can give me some insight tomorrow.

Thanks for the replies!

Michelle answers:

No, it’s gone within a week from the placenta being gone. Are you sure the placenta is completely gone or that there isn’t a twin?
If yes, than it’s likely you’re pregnant.
