Food Network? I mean, Paul Dean with her :hey ya’ll every other sentence, Giada deLaurentis with her nonaccent and then saying various cheeses with her Italiano accent….Michael Chiarello with his little tidbits….????? what is UP with all that?

And you mean like Rachel Ray suddenly becoming a product unto herself? Didja notice that Emeril is no longer on at 8 pm ET every night?

It’s all a sales pitch, friend. These shows are less about cooking than they are about selling: selling a lifestyle, a type of knife, a brand of wine, a line of cookware. The show “Unwrapped” is nothing but a series of 5-minute commercials for various food manufacturers. Want to know what the Food Network is about? Read the credits at the end of any show and you’ll see it: the list of corporate sponsors who “graciously permitted” the use of their products in the filming.

I don’t mind Giada’s accent, but what’s with the three shows she’s on? Why does Bobby Flay have three series? Alton Brown has three or four, tho I find him informative as well as entertaining. The best shows for actual cooking (IMHO) are Barefoot Contessa and Nigella Eats. Really, though, it is far less about cooking than it is about consuming, which is why the network continually runs those lower right screen blurbs exhorting viewers to “Buy Rachel Ray’s knife set on foodtv.com” or “For more information on booking your trip to Naples, visit foodtv.com/giada/travels” and on and on.

It’s not so much that I’m over the chefs. I’m over being treated like a chump. The same is true of HGTV and TLC, for that matter. I used to learn practical stuff – now, it’s just about the accumulation of stuff. Bag that, Gladys.

Does anyone have a recipe for the Cafe Diablo Pie?

On the Food Network‘s Road Tested program (Seattle episode), I saw a pie made by the Alaska Silk Pie Company. It’s called Cafe Diablo Pie. It has 7 layers, chocolate and white chocolate amongst others, made with different spices like cloves and liqueurs and a crust of nuts with caramel. It’s made in a tall springform pan.
Anyone figured out a copy recipe?

You could go on the food network website. But the white and dark silk chocolate was made form a “secret ” recipie that the cook did not give out.

Yes there is. Just go to the sites you mentioned, and track down the shows you are interested in. Find the name (s) of the restaurant, google their information, and see what pops up. It’s really simple to do.

Do I really need a food processor for this? Or can I do it manually?

I was reading the reviews attached to the recipe at the food network site and it sounds like some people had texture issues with this recipe. I’m wondering if mixing it by hand would affect the texture, since the food processor would probably whip some air into the mixture. The bars might be denser if you do it by hand.

Also – watch out for over-heating the chocolate when melting it, and
– beware of the pointy pieces of candy cane poking through your bag and making a mess

OOOHHH!!! Good question. I would look up salaries online somewhere. Usually in the culinary sections of sites.

The new facebook login page has a man and woman standing together, embracing and smiling. Is this for real or a hack page? Because friends of mine, even within the same city are having different login pages and I want to make sure this isn’t some page that’s trying to fish for my password and such. What’s a good excuse to give to my girlfriend as to why I changed my Facebook password?

We recently exchanged our Facebook login with each other. Boy, was that a bad idea. She checked my messages and got mad at some old messages from 2-3 years ago. And lately, I don’t like the fact that she keeps uploading pictures of herself on my Facebook page.

Say that you got hacked with those spammers who post “I just got a free iPad” or stuff like that. Say that you got a message from Facebook saying that you had to change your password and that you had no choice. Then if you see she’s starting to ask for your new password, distract her or change the subject. Eventually, she will forget. But if she doesn’t, you might just have to get the courage to tell her you don’t want her checking your messages and that somethings are private. If she’s the “one” then she’ll respect that. If she gets more mad and throws a fit, then you know it probably wasn’t meant to be. Good luck man.

What to put for parent income on FAFSA if parent is unemployed?

Hello 🙂 I am filling out my FAFSA for financial aid and there is a question asking me to list my dad’s income in “how much did your father/ stepfather earn from working(wages, salaries, tips etc). My dad has been unemployed for the past year and I am unsure as to what to put. Does unemployment compensation count as income? Or should I leave it to $0 as the helpful hints on the side say to: Use Lines: 7 + 12 + 18* + Box 14 [Code A] of IRS Schedule K-1 (Form 1065) for IRS Form 1040, but I do not understand what it means. Can someone please clarify what I have to put for my dad’s income? Thank You.

Unemployment compensation is considered income. Put it down. You will still get the money from FAFSA but if you do not put anything it will slow FAFSA down.

How do I change the start date on fafsa?

We filled out the fafsa papers for the fall but she wants to start during the summer now already. I checked everything but don’t know how to change the start date. Please help.

The summer is likely part of a different award year so you will most likely have to fill out an entirely new application.
The application you filled out was for fall 2013 and spring 2014. Most schools consider the summer as the last term of the year. So, that would include summer 2014.
To get aid for summer 2013 you will need to go back and fill out the 2012/2013 FAFSA application using your 2011 tax information. Your school also likely has a supplemental summer application you will need to complete as well.
Contact your financial aid office to make sure which award year the summer is included on. If by chance your is one of the few that consider it the first semester of the year then you will most likely just have to fill out a supplemental application with the school.

1. The depends on what the student qualifies for and is awarded. The Pell Grant’s maximum is $5,500 per academic year. There are Stafford Loans as well, but I am not entirely sure on the limits of those.
2.You apply for FAFSA each year, and can use it for up to 6 years (12 semesters) or 150% of the required credits for the program.
3. Yes.

What happens if I fill out a FAFSA and decide not to attend school?

I filled out a fafsa because I was thinking about returning to college, but decided its a bad time in my life to do so. Needless to say, I don’t want to be receiving grants for school I can’t attend. What should I do?

Michelle answers:

Don’t worry about it–you don’t have to do anything. You can’t receive aid unless you are enrolled at a school. Students often complete the FAFSA and have the results sent to mulitple schools so they can compare the financial aid packages offered by each school. If you never enroll in a school, then they cannot originate any aid for you, so there would be nothing for you to receive.

Although you are not required to, it would be nice if you let the schools whose codes you submitted on the FAFSA know that you will not be enrolling at this time so they don’t have to go to the trouble to figure out a package for you. A quick email to the FA department is usually all you need.

Forever 21 is having open interviews for 2 days. What happens in open interviews? How can i give myself an advantage over the others? and what questions might they ask?

Michelle answers:

It is just like a regular interview, have any references and past work history that is relevant ready for the interview, cause you may have to fill out an application first, Dress appropriately, I would say Khakis or slacks, Nice button down shirt, nice dress shoes, basically look professional!

To give yourself an advantage come prepared, look professional, and be confident!

They will ask normal questions, like why do you want to work for Forever 21, and questions that are relevant to the position that you are applying for, or the positions that they need to fill! For Example, if it is a retail job, and a cashier position, they may ask if you have experience with a Cash Register, just be honest with your potential employer, and you’ll probably get asked about your strengths, weaknesses, you may get asked if you prefer to work as part of a team or individually, the questions they will ask all depends on what the job is and what skills it takes!

They probably will ask about other things like availability, which is basically the hours you are available to work, what your pay expectations are, and if you have any questions for them!

I would guess clothes from Forever 21 would be a good way to start, whether it’s dress code or not. I would go with that, and just ask on your first day, or call and confirm one way or the other.

Facebook is supposed to send you an email guiding you through the reactivation process, right? How long is it supposed to take?

To reactivate your Facebook account, you log-into Facebook as you normally would. Then check your email (the same email account that you use to log-into Facebook.) The email should be sent pretty much immediately. Once you receive the email, you just click on the link inside and you will be sent to your home page in Facebook.

So I’m typing things up in say a textbox and occasionally firefox will think I clicked on wherever the mouse cursor is at the moment and thus keep moving the mouse pointer all the time. I checked and this isn’t a problem of the mouse. How do I fix this?

When I try to open some websites I sometimes fail, because Firefox stops me from doing this if they take more than ten seconds to open.
I believe I can change the settings to give Firefox longer to open websites, but I can’t work out how to do it. Can anyone help?

You can try this:

in firefox’s address bar, type

about:config

and press Enter

In the filter bar, type

dom.max_script_run_time

double click the result that appears and set the integer value to say, 20

restart Firefox.

I am having troule deleting mozilla firefox from the added programs list. I think its been hijacked b/c I cannot delete the program. But it is indicating that the program has been used daily. Any help is appreciated.

Click Uninstall.

FedEx always wants someone to sign for parcels, at least here in Seattle. I’m 45 years old by the way and it doesn’t matter from whom or what I order (nothing illegal), but I always have to sign for my parcels.

I wanted to apply for Fedex as someone who delivers the items to the addresses of the businesses or residential properties of the people who orders they belong to and i’m not quite sure what that position that might be anyone know what it might be called?

Fed Ex is a Cargo Airline, you might be applying as a Pilot which does the same job apart from the fact that they drive a plane.

What Chapter In Gakuen Alice Does Mikan Sakura Transfer To The Dangerous Ability Class?

**PLZ READ**** I am currently reading the Gakuen Alice manga and i saw the anime. I was reading about the characters on wikipedia and it said that she is transfered to the Dangerous Ability Class. I was wondering what chapter that was on. I am on chapter 71. And so does that mean Sakura has to go on them missions like Natsume does/did?

It’s chapter 96 PAGE 23 (In manga fox) that they tell her she’ll transfer into the Dangerous ability class. She’s considered the elementary school principal’s “favorite” so he definitely going to use her Alice. She really never gets to have a chance to go on a mission since she escaped with Natsume and the others. But I’m not gonna spoil it for you! (I couldn’t wait I skipped to chapter 90 from chapter 73 then went back lol ) 🙂 Enjoy Gakuen Alice like i did 😀 Also I LOVE THIS CHAPTER and the one before!

If this doesn’t work, try finding a local dog agent although a lot of them are based in hollywood. So maybe you could find a hollywood pet agent on a search engine, e-mail them some of those great pictures you’re talking about, and who knows maybe some agent will fly you out there.

The requirements for a breed to be accepted in a kennel club, and thereby a sanctioned dog show:
Must have 23 breeders in 21 sates, have a written breed standard, written by the officers of the breed club.
Must have 7 generations bred true, with perfect records kept, so all of the pedigree information is recorded ( ancestries) and many other requirements.
AND, they must be of the species Canis lupus familiaris
Wolves are Canis. Lupus
.
The other wild dogs are not allowed, either..such as the foxes, jackals, and coyotes.

I am visiting my cousin and she has a nine year old girl. She loves the internet but knows just a couple websites. She knows webkinz, epets , nick, disney, star wars channel, and club penguin and toontown. She has accounts on all of them but sometimes she wants a couple more websites to go to. Please help me!

Where on earth can I learn basic math without a calculator?

I’ve been using a calculator for absolutely everything since I’ve started school.

Practice and repetition. Learn basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division tables. Buy some flash cards at Wal-Mart or some similar store.
