Your Questions About Natural Remedies In Pregnancy

Lizzie asks…

Carpal Tunnel during pregnancy?

I’m in my 2nd trimester; 20 weeks pregnant. I wake up in the middle of the night with horrible pain from my hands going numb. I’ve been sleeping elevated on my back with my hands proped up on pillows.. and still feeling the pain. Is this common and does anyone know any natural home remedies? I know it has to do with water retention. i drink a lot of water…….Please let me know if other pregnant women deal with this….it gets unbearable
Oh i forgot… I also take B12 liquid vitamins and DHA with my vitamins….. I seriously tried everything except for the arm braces… they were kinda expensive but i guess they are worth it .. thank you so much guys

Michelle answers:

If possible, avoid any activity that requires forceful, repetitive hand movements. Although these movements may not have caused your carpal tunnel syndrome, they can make your symptoms worse.

If your job requires this kind of movement and you must continue it, consider wearing wrist or hand braces while you work.

If you’re working at a computer, adjust the height of your chair so your wrists aren’t bent downward as you type. Using a special ergonomic keyboard can help in some cases. Remember to take breaks to stretch your hands.

If your symptoms bother you at night, shift your sleeping position and try to prop up your arm with a pillow or two when you feel the twinges. Avoid sleeping on your hands. If you wake up with pain, try shaking your hands until the pain or numbness goes away.

If you have a lot of discomfort at night, try stabilizing your wrist in a neutral position (not bent) with a splint or brace. A neutral position allows the carpal tunnel to be slightly wider.

Practicing yoga can help relieve the pain and increase hand strength

Donald asks…

Iv Bought Caulophyllum 200C To Help Bring On Labour Later In Pregnancy, Anyone Had Any Experiences With This?

I have bought some Caulophyllum 200C from Neal’s Yard but wanted to know when is the suggested to take it? Is it from 38 weeks? And how much to take??
Im not trying to defy mother nature, I just wanted to give myself a little safe, homeopathic “nudge” with bringing natural labour on…

Anyone know anything about this remedy dosage and anyone actually taken it themselves??

Thanks xx

Michelle answers:

You should talk to your doctor if you want to take any pills during pregnancy which are over-the-counter, regardless of how natural they may sound.

Lisa asks…

Any natural PMS cures? I’m depressed, miserable, and desperate?

So I never had PMS before. Lost a pregnancy at 6 weeks, and it’s like every since then I have “developed” it. This last week was the WORST. It was as though TWO entire weeks before my period I was just SOOOOOOO depressed. Like in a dark cell. It is horrible you guys. Plain misery and suffering.

So I have been actively pushing myself to get enough sleep. Allow myself to cry when needed. Take vitamins. And I have cut down my PMS to less than a week before my period. But those 4-6 days are still extremely rough.

Does anyone know of any remedies that at least make it easier to deal with? It is just HORRID. I’m not even talking about the physical symptoms. Those are a walk in the park. I’m talking about the mental PMS. The depression, anxiety, mood swings. I just want to die sometimes. I can’t even think logically while I’m in that state.

Unfortunately, I don’t have health insurance, and even if I did..I’m kind of done with modern medicine..since that has done more damage/harm to my body than good.

I have heard of apple cider and chaste tree. I am taking chaste tree and have no idea how it helps.

Thanks in advance.

Michelle answers:

I don’t have any natural remedies but it sounds like you are dealing with PMD, pre menstrual dysphoria. It is like a form of depression. You should look it up and go from there. Might be able to find natural remedies for that. Maybe losing your pregnancy got your hormones out of whack and triggered it. Might be worth looking into. My doctor is from the phillipines and he tpld me a womzm from there killed or tried to kill her husband (cant remember which) and she got away with it because she had PMD!! Crazy!! But it goes to show how serious it is. Not saying you are homicidal LOL Just that it can really mess a person up. Good luck

Your Questions About Oldest Woman Natural Pregnancy

Mandy asks…

What does this sound like to you? WOMAN ONLY PLEASE!?

Their for a while I had severe menstrual problems, I didn’t have a period for 1 1/2 years being only 20 years old. I had everything checked out bunches of blood tests and all the perfect ” so my doctor said.” She gave me a progesterone challenge 10mg for 7 days to see if it would induce a period and it worked, well she suggested i start taking a natural progesterone cream for 10 days starting the 15th day of my cycle, well day 3 of taking the cream i started my period again, that cycle was 27 days long..Well i thought i found a solution but i was suppose to start my period a week ago and it never came. My husband and i have had unprotected sex quite a bit throughout that cycle but i don’t really suspect pregnancy because i do not have any symptoms at all, breast are a tiny bit tender but that it is, usually i don’t even get soar bb’s befor my period..Anybody ever experienced this and found the problem???What do you think it could be, just your opinion..thanks so much guys!

Michelle answers:

Some women do not get any symptoms at all when they first become pregnant. Each woman is different. So I would suggest taking a home pregnancy test anyway just to rule that out.

If you’re not I would go see the doctor again. Did they check that you were actually ovulating? Sometimes your period can be delayed for ages if you are not ovulating. Are you trying to conceive? If you are, maybe talk to your doctor about this. As if you are not ovulating you may need something to induce ovulation. This would also help to regulate your periods.

But best thing to to first is take a pregnancy test just to make sure! Good luck!

Richard asks…

I have been TTC for 8 months.?

I have a three year old son. I graduated college in 2009 and just bought my first house in March of 2010, and i am so ready to have another child. I have been TTC for Eight month’s now, and have had no luck. I have sex with my husband four to six times a week, i haven’t been on any birth control for almost two years. I don’t understand what i am doing wrong. With my first child it was not planned and just happened, i wish it was that easy this time around. What are some of the thing’s you woman have done out there to increase your chances? I want the most natural way to get pregnant, the most natural pregnancy and the most natural birth. So i am open to all answers. Thanks ladies:) Personal experiences are more so what i am looking for.
Also, i’m pretty sure my husband and i are fertile, seeing as how we both have three year old’s with different people.

Michelle answers:

I’ve been TTC for two years now. Both me and my husband have been tested for everything that can mak pregnancy not happen, and neither one of us have any issues. I use Ovulation tests, elevate my hips after sex…EVRYTHING, and nothing works. Sometimes I give up for a couple of monts and I don’t get pregnant then, either.

Like it or not, there is only a 20-25% chance of getting pregnant every time you have sex. And that percentage is when all conditions are PERFECT. The best things you can do is just relax as much as you can and enjoy the process of baby making.

Even though you have had kids before doesn’t mean that something can’t be up now. I would go to the OB, just to have them run the usual tests to make sure everything is fine.

John asks…

Why Many Women think the only way to prevent pregnancy is For men to wear condom or not have sex?

I am 29 years old. have never had sex cause i’m a shy guy and i dont really have chances to meet women. But i dream of it and so this question came about.

Many women seem to think that the only way to prevent pregnancies is to not have sex or use condoms. Or sometimes people have dry sex but with the Man positioning himself directly as if penetrating the vagina.
Well, why not look outside of that box? I personaly would be satisfied by penetrating between the thighs.. lower down, far away from the vagina. Or in the breasts or whatever. No condom needed and yet can have full awesome sex with no worries about pregancy or anything.

I kno w , i know… some of you may say it’s difficult because once yo’re with a girl it’s really difficult to not do what is natural( vaginal penetration) butt if the guy has mind control , there should be no problem.

Michelle answers:

Most girls in serious relationships seem to go on the pill.

Condoms are good b/c they prevent pregnancy and STDs. If she’s into the casual hook ups w/ guys she may not know very well, then she’s going to want him to use condoms.

You’re assuming that all men can’t stand the idea of wearing a condom, which is funny to me. Guys that go for the casual hook ups like wearing condoms too. And it’s the same thing, where if it’s something serious then it’s better for her to go on the pill.

Lisa asks…

Someone here at R&S said that a 2 month old fetus is not a “child”, therefore abortion is OK.?

Do you agree to this idea? If you do, what would you say to a woman who had a natural miscarriage at the 2nd month of pregnancy and is grieving? Would you say “No big deal, it was not a child anyway” something like that?

I am trying to understand what is the difference between a 2 month old fetus for a woman who chooses to make an abortion from a woman who loves the baby from the day one…

The same person said that since the baby can’t survive outside the womb, abortion is OK… Isn’t it cruel? Is it OK to kill every vegetative form of life at our own will?

I ask all these questions because I am shocked…
Esoteric, if you are a man, I ask you do you know what is to be pregnant? Do you know what is having an abortion? By your statement, I can tell you are one of those guys that leave a woman when she is pregnant… would you?
Labgrrl, I know it is not a fetus yet. I was just using the same words the person did. It is an embryo, I am a woman and I had 4 children. You can call it the name you want, that doesn’t change what I meant.
Kent, that “person” was a cat? I am sorry for your loss and I am happy you can have sentiments.
Pangel, I agree with you. Actually, what I fear the most is how banal abortion can become, like getting rid of a pimple. “Oooops, I am pregnant, I dont’ want it, I was drunk, I was partying, I was irresponsible, well, let me get rid of this tumour because I have my college to think about…” You know that 98% of abortion is made by women who was simply not responsible enough to avoid the pregnancy, or just had fun with a non-supportive man, and ultimately she is under emotional pressure and hormone battle, not thinking properly… Those are the cases that I am more concerned… Each situation is a different situation and only God would judge, but choosing abortion for convenience or selfishness… in my point of view is a huge mistake that the person will have consequences one day.
Godbotnot, I’ve never been through that… I am not sure what I would do, but my spiritual belief tells me I would have the baby regardless. I would give the baby the chance to come to this world and make the rapist life something worthy.
auntb93, I am so sorry… I am sure it was not an easy decision. God bless you!
Matt J, miscarriage is a natural process though. It is God’s will! It is like a heart attack, stroke, or whatever. I can’t even grasp your concept of suicide here… Is the baby hanging himself at the umbilical cord?? I don’t think so…
I’m Atheist, I totally agree with you…
Baptist, the morning after pill, for your information, the baby was not conceived yet. The sperm joins the egg after 48 hours after the sexual encounter. The morning after pill makes the woman hurry with her period, so that the spem finds nothing on the next day… No, it is not abortion…

Michelle answers:

Abortion is not “OK,” but a last resort when necessary. As to the grieving, that takes place when you abort by a doctor’s intervention as well as a spontaneous abortion, which is usually called a miscarriage

I had an abortion the summer before I was due to start college because I could see no sensible alternative, and because the people who were willing to pay for an abortion (the boy’s parents) were unwilling to pay for any other option. But I grieved for my lost opportunity, and still regret that I never had a child, and so do not have grandchildren to amuse me in my old age. Your Questions About Natural Ivf Cycle

Lizzie asks…

Could I be pregnant naturally after Failed IVF?

I’ve had one failed IVF cycle & currently on a natural cycle now. My cycle normally goes from 32-34 days, but I’m cycle day 39 now with no signs of my period coming at all. Has anyone had this happen tho them?
I’ve read that your period can be delayed after IVF treatment, but considering I didnt have any problems during my IVF round I thought maybe this might not be the case for me – any advise would be great
Thanks girls for your replys. We are doing IVF cause I have unexplained infertility, have been trying for over 3 years now. We have only completed one IVF round & i didnt respond to the drugs as well as they hoped, Guess thats why I assumed my cycle would be normal. I’ll just wait another week and if nothing arrives then I guess I should do a test

Michelle answers:

I am not an IVF expert, but the hormones used during it can mess up your cycle.
The best method is a little late for this cycle but charting your BBT will tell you when you’ve ovulated and then you’ll know if you’re ‘late’ or if you just ovulated late during that cycle. (I don’t believe BBT during IVF is helpful at all but if you’re on a natural cycle it can help you figure out what your body is doing).

Chris asks…

questions on cancelled IVF cycle?

My first IVF cycle is almost certainly going to be cancelled. At retrieval we got 8 eggs, and 4 fertilized. But as of today (Day 2), the embryos have not divided. I’m getting a call tomorrow morning, but if anyone else has gone through this, I’m wondering: When and HOW will I get my period, since I have no natural progesterone? Should I stop taking the Medrol (steroid)?

I will talk to my doctor or a nurse tomorrow, but aside from being devastated these things keep nagging at me. Anyone who has any experience with this, I’d love to hear from you. Thank you.

Michelle answers:

I am so sorry this cycle didn’t go better for you. Don’t stop taking the Medrol until your doctor or nurse says you can. It’s not over yet. I have not had a cycle canceled but know several women who have had there cycles canceled. I know it is heartbreaking after all you have gone through. You are taking progesterone injections or on suppositories right? If so, you should get your period, if this cycle is canceled, shortly after stopping the progesterone. I get my period, without fail, 4 days after stopping the progesterone.

Please feel free to contact me through my profile if you have more questions or need a little support. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Ken asks…

Question about freezing “extra” embryos/eggs after initial IVF?

We are seeing an RE and may possibly moving on to IVF if this next cycle of injections with timed intercourse doesn’t work. We were given the IVF info packet last week to read through and follow up with questions next week. Well it states that our doctor recommends freezing any unused embryos or eggs for future IVF cycles. It talks about the success and risks associated with doing this. However it doesn’t mention the cost of using these for future cycles. We pay out of pocket and our first cycle may cost up to $15,000 (put this includes every single thing -meds, u/s, blood work, retrieval, transfer, freezing/storage of eggs, sperm prep, etc). We think that is a lot but hubby said it may balance out if our future cycles using those frozen embryos were a lot less costly.

Do you know what the cost might be? There would be less procedures and meds associated so I would assume a lot less cost, right? I have even read of some women having them transferred on a natural cycle so they only paid for the transfer fee and ultrasound. Didn’t know if this was common or not.

This is something we plan on asking next week. Thanks for taking time to share your thoughts/info. Best wishes to those ttc!!!!

(TTC for 27 months)

Michelle answers:

The costs are not nearly what you pay for a fresh cycle. My clinic charges $2,900 for bloodwork, ultrasound monitoring, and transfer but this does not include medications. Out of 3 fresh IVF cycle, we do have 3 frozen embryos that we will use if our next fresh fails. I know some women who get none or few to freeze and some who (rare) get a lot. We do pay a fee each quarter ($325) to keep them frozen. If you got yourself into the Shared Risk program, frozen embryo transfer’s ( FET’s)are included in some plans.

Some may say that its success is cut in half or a good percentage lower but that is certainly not true if you are at a good clinic. If fact, my clinic’s FET cycles are higher than their fresh cycle success! They have a 95% successful thaw rate. Clinics that freeze the embryo on day 3 usually will have a lower success rate. Most clinics will freeze the best embryos on day 5 or 6. These clinics tend to have much higher success rates. I have known women who only conceive with a FET. It is believed that this is because some bodies are just not ready because of all of the stimulating medications you have been on. There are natural FET’s where your cycle is followed and your lining is measured and close to transfer you can sometimes be on progesterone support in the form of injections or suppositories. With a medicated FET you are on other medications, just not nearly the same amount and not on any stimulating medications. The FET normally takes as long as a fresh cycle. You may do 1 month of BCP’s before your cycle month. You do have to have progesterone support (Do the injections if you have a choice) and estrogen support in the form of pills or patches. These medications trick your body into thinking it is pregnant so your body will respond to the embryos transferred back to you. Your lining needs to be nice and thick so those embies have a place to snuggle in. Some clinics are even use Lupron to suppress your natural “cycle” and keep your ovaries quiet.

I have heard that natural FET success rates are higher and at the same time have heard medicated FET cycle have higher success rates. My clinic has the highest FET success rates in the country and they do a medicated cycle, without lupron.

Here is a step-by-step guide for natural and hormone supported FET cycles

Let’s just hope your next cycle works and you won’t need to think about totcicles!!

George asks…

Is poor response to Natural LH possible?

We’re been trying to conceive for 9 months. Two months ago I started charting my temp. I also use ClearBlue Monitors (3 times a day) and the OV Watch. My cycles are perfect–28-30 days and ovulating day 13-14 with lutual 14-16 days long. The watch and the 3 monitors all state I ovulate on the same day but last month I never had a temp rise???
It took me three years of monitoring to conceive my son. a year prior, my fsh tested at 14 and I responsed poorly to the IVF cycle we did so it was cancelled. I took an Hcg shot (left over from cancelled IVF cycle) the day after my natural LH surge during the cycle I conceived him. Could my problem be that I’m responding poorly to my own LH and fail to release an egg? I can’t find any information regarding poor LH response (just fsh)?

Michelle answers:

I know of someone that went through almost the same thing. Good Luck!

Probiotics and Pregnancy? Are they safe?

Hi, I was wondering if it’s safe to take probiotics during pregnancy? I have a bottle of capsules that contain:
L. Rhamnosus
L Casei
L Acidophilus
B Longum
I actually drink acidohpilus milk and did during my first pregnancy and had no issues with it. I did some research online and it looks safe to take to me but when I asked the Dr. they said that they don’t have enough information on if it harms the fetus or not. I know some herbs and things can harm a fetus but sometimes it seems like drs of all kinds just want you to steer away from the “Naturalremedies. Does anyone have any insight?
The Dr. advised that I shouldn’t take them. Yet my research looks like it would be beneficial.?

Michelle answers:

It’s your decision. I usually follow the advice of my doctor because I didn’t attend medical school and therefore can safely assume that he knows a little more than I do.
I don’t know where you are doing your research but if it’s online, you should keep in mind that anyone can post anything and a lot of websites contain inaccurate information. Best of luck to you.

Michelle answers:

Hi jkzimm04

Dr. Sears says it’s safe:
http://www.parenting.com/article/Pregnancy/Health/Ask-Dr.-Sears-Probiotics-During-Pregnancy

I found several studies that found that it was safe and beneficial. That is to say that the ones tested were safe and beneficial and doesn’t necessarily extend to every brand of every type of probiotic.

Your doctor will have numerous reasons for steering you away from supplements you want to take, including but not limited to: concerns about malpractice, not enough time or inclination to explore the issue thoroughly, ignorance and prejudice. In cases like this you may just have to accept full responsibility and decide for yourself.

While we’re on the subject of prenatal supplements, you may be interested in the latest on Vitamin D supplementation. Vitamin D3 is often deficient and is now known to reduce the risk of type I diabetes, asthma, MS, dental and bone problems, leukemia, schizophrenia and possibly autism, among other things.

Are there any natural remedies for hiatal hernia, developed after pregnancy?

Natural Antidepressants During Pregnancy?

I am in need of help. I am pregnant in my 2nd Trimester and have felt considerable depression during my pregnancy. Symptoms include: Lethargic, unable to get out of bed, no desire to socialize or participate in family activities, loss of desire to complete daily tasks. I have two other children ages 7 and 2yrs old and my depression is becoming burdensome and a distracting me from caring for my other children. I am experiencing intense sadness and loss of interest in daily endeavors. These symptoms are very different than normal pregnancy hormone related symptoms as they are more intense and dark in nature. I have discussed with my doctor but I do not want to take prescription medications and would like to consider all natural antidepressants. I have heard that Sam-E is supposedly good, however I want to make sure that any natural antidepressants I may take will not have harmful side effects on the baby while I am pregnant.

Question:
Are there any SAFE all natural Antidepressant remedies available to take during pregnancy?

Thank you for your help.

Michelle answers:

Many doctors are only trained to prescribe various types, and strengths of antidepressants, and counselling. If the depression proves to be resistant, their next approach is to recommend ECT, with its 1 in 50,000 risk of death, and the possibility of permanent, partial memory loss. Talk therapy isn’t very effective, when there is a medical cause, such as nutritional deficiencies, There are many other things you can do to help treat your depression. Moderate exercise for at least 20 – 30 minutes, daily, and up to an hour. Brisk walking is good, and try to be mindful of the feeling your foot makes as it hits the ground: it is a relaxation technique. Also use daily, one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 2.c, 2.i, or 11, and/or yoga, Tai Chi, and/or the EFT, in sections 2.q, 2.o, and section 53, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris whichever works best for you.

Screening quizzes for depression are via page E, in section 1, or page J, in section 2. If positive, print, and consult a doctor, to eliminate medical causes, and ask for an appropriate referral. Take 4 Omega 3 fish oil supplements, daily: (certified free of mercury) it is best if consumed with an antioxidant, such as an orange, or grapefruit, or their FRESHLY SQUEEZED juice. If vitamin E is added, it should be certified as being 100% from natural sources, or it may be synthetic: avoid it. Also take a vitamin B complex which is certified as being 100% of natural origin; a deficiency in vitamin B9 (folic acid, or folate) is known to cause depression. Around 30% – 40% of depressed people have low vitamin B12 levels. Depressed females using the contraceptive pill may benefit from vitamin B6 supplements. Occupational therapy (keeping busy allows little time for unproductive introspection, and keeps mental activity out of less desirable areas of the brain).

As options, if desired, either a known, effective herbal remedy, such as St. John’s wort, (a German variety, if possible; local ones may vary in efficacy; take with a meal) or supplements, such as SAMe, Inositol, or 5HTP (from vitamin and health food stores, some supermarkets, or mail order: view section 55 at ezy-build ). Initially, at least, some form of counselling, preferably either Cognitive Behavio(u)ral Therapy, or Rational Emotive Behavio(u)ral Therapy. Co-counselling is shown in the first 3 pages of section 2, or online therapy, or even talking with someone you feel comfortable with, and a much more detailed post is on page R. For females, also view page V: “women to women”, and if young; young women’s depression. Eventually, read the section.

Your Questions About Natural Remedies Pregnancy

Sharon asks…

Does anyone have any natural remedies for thrush in pregnancy?

Its driving me crazy, I am 10 weeks pregnant. I don’t really want to see my doctor if its avoidable because he makes fun of me when I see him.

Michelle answers:

Go and buy a pessisary it is over the counter and you dnt need a prescription

Do not use the applicator though as it is not safe for use when pregnant

But put the tablet up as far as you would a tampon

I had thrush for the first time 3 weeks ago and my OB said to do this it cleared in two days

It will cost around $15 but totally worth it and it only needs to be used once unlike the cream that needs 6 days of treatment time

Goodluck

Also keep up your yogurt intake

John asks…

What natural remedies works for headaches in pregnancy?

What do you do for a headache during first trimester?
I am 5 weeks pregnant and had a horrible headache last night! I didn’t take anything, just dealt with it. It felt like my head was going to pop off. Is this common, and what can I do to relieve it?

Thanks!

Michelle answers:

Sometimes heating up a wet towel in the microwave, then laying down and putting it under your neck helps me. I did some reading online and found out that tylenol/acetaminophen in low doses is ok. Ibuprofen is not. You could call your doctor and talk to them about it.

Betty asks…

Natural Remedies for migraines during pregnancy?

I am 13 wks pregnant and suffering from very intense migraines and back pain. My doctor prescribed Vicodin. I refuse to take it since it is classified as a Class C drug by the FDA. Is there anything at all – herbal, natural, etc. that anyone thinks might work – bearing in mind of course, that I am pregnant. The doctor says the migraines are due to high levels of progesterone. I know that certain juices work on people suffering from migraines due to testosterone – anything similar for progesterone?

Michelle answers:

Herbal isn’t always better during pregnant–it’s best to talk WITH your doctor and discuss options. Herbal remedies aren’t protected by the FDA, and the effects of some herbs on a fetus are still being researched.

My advice is to lie on your left side and discuss this with your doctor. Don’t just refuse a drug–DISCUSS it with your doctor. They went through the training, and now it’s time for you to listen. Get a second opinion if you want.

Donna asks…

Herbal and natural remedies that help with pregnancy and labor?

I am also looking for books or websites on the subject.

Michelle answers:

Alternative medicine a.k.a homeopathy.

Multiple head homeopathic remedies are:

Arnica: This remedy is often indicated for relief of soreness that comes from physical exertion and muscle strain. It is also useful for soreness after labor and delivery, and for hemorrhoids that follow childbirth.

Calcarea phosphorica: This remedy can help to strengthen a woman who tends toward easy tiredness, poor digestion, cold hands and feet, and poor absorption of nutrients. Some women who need this remedy find only “junk food” appealing during pregnancy, or have cravings for smoked and salty food. A history of easy tooth decay and aching bones and joints can also suggest a need for this remedy. A person who needs Calc phos is often irritable because of tiredness, and may long for travel or a change of circumstances.

Caulophyllum: This remedy may be helpful to women with weak muscle tone in the uterus. A history of irregular periods, slow and difficult labor with previous deliveries, or weakness of the cervix may bring this remedy to mind. The woman may feel erratic pains like sticking needles, or episodes of contracting pain. She typically feels nervous, shaky, and trembling (sometimes irritable, as well).

Carbo vegetabilis: This remedy can be helpful to a woman who feels weak and faint during pregnancy, with poor circulation, a general feeling of coldness, and a craving for fresh or moving air. She may also have frequent digestive upsets with burning pain and a tendency to belch. A woman who is deeply tired from overwork, many pregnancies close together, or a previous illness may regain some strength with Carbo vegetabilis.

Cimicifuga (also called Actaea racemosa): This remedy can be helpful to women who are nervous and talkative, with a tendency to feel fearful and gloomy during pregnancy. They may become overagitated and fear a miscarriage — sometimes having pains that feel like labor pains too early, or pains that shoot from hip to hip and down the thighs.

Ferrum metallicum: A woman who has a sturdy build, but looks very pale and weary—flushing red from any exertion or emotion—may respond to this remedy. Ferrum is often helpful in correcting anemic tendencies.

Ferrum phosphoricum: This remedy can be helpful for nervous, sensitive women who often feel weak or tired, with easy flushing of the face and a tendency toward anemia. A woman who needs this remedy often has a slender build and may develop frequent neck and shoulder stiffness.

Nux vomica: This remedy may be useful for indigestion, heartburn, stomach pain, and constipation during pregnancy. A woman needs this remedy usually is impatient, irritable, and chilly.

Pulsatilla: This remedy is often helpful at times of strong hormonal changes, especially to women who are moody and emotional, and want a lot of affection and attention. They often crave desserts or butter and may overeat, which can lead to indigestion and nausea, or excessive weight-gain. Pregnant women who need this remedy feel uncomfortable in hot weather and in stuffy rooms, improving from gentle exercise in open air.

Sepia: Women who are tired, dragged out, and irritable during pregnancy (feeling overburdened by demands of family members, or with little enthusiasm for the pregnancy) may benefit from this remedy. Poor circulation, nausea, constipation, a tendency toward accidental urine loss, and a feeling of sagging or weakness in the pelvic floor, and an energy-boost from exercise are other indications for Sepia.

Homeopathy Dosage Directions

Select the remedy that most closely matches the symptoms. In conditions where self-treatment is appropriate, unless otherwise directed by a physician, a lower potency (6X, 6C, 12X, 12C, 30X, or 30C) should be used. In addition, instructions for use are usually printed on the label.

Many homeopathic physicians suggest that remedies be used as follows: Take one dose and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the remedy work. If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose may be taken. The frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual. Sometimes a dose may be required several times an hour; other times a dose may be indicated several times a day; and in some situations, one dose per day (or less) can be sufficient.

If no response is seen within a reasonable amount of time, select a different remedy.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Products

Mandy asks…

Acne during pregnancy?

I’m 40 weeks pregnant and I having breakouts – especially with the heat.

I can’t afford to go to the dermatologist for a while due to baby expenses. I also don’t want to use anything harsh, since I’m worried about it affecting the pregnancy.

I drink lots of water and wash my fash twice a day.

Are there any natural products or something I can eat that will help clear up my skin?

Please help!
It’s really making me feel down.

Michelle answers:

Hi!

I myself have been having a few issues with heat related (and hormonal) acne. I decided to look this up for myself and thought you might like

It consists of most items you can find in most averagely stocked refrigerators. It does consist of lemon though and naturally sensitive skin might have an aversion to it.

The article does not mention safety in relation to pregnancy. It does have some herbal remedies so I suggest researching the origin of the herbs. You could always ask a question on here :o)

Sandra asks…

I want to keep my pregnancy beautiful skin?

i have a very beautiful skin now that im pregnant, but my doctor told me that skin usually returns to what it was before, is there anyway to keep it looking so fresh and clear, free of oil and free of dryness, im very much against the cosmetic products, prefer au natural products like good old olive oil or plain old soap, but thru pregnancy my skin has been looking so amazing i havent even needed anything, what do you do after the delivery ?

i hope i can find someone who can confrim that skin will remain naturally as lucious as it has been for the past 9 months.

Michelle answers:

Sorry. If your skin appears particularly gorgeous during pregnancy – and that’s estrogen-driven – it may mean that when you AREN’T pregnant you’re not eating correctly to assure yourself a pretty complexion. And/or you may be leading a very stressful life that takes its toll on your skin.
The first order of business is sound nutrition.

I recommend Peter D’Adamo’s Eat Right 4 Your Type to get a feel for how your individuality requires you to generally eat and exercise. (He’s also written Eat Right 4 Your Baby!) This is how you’ll know if you’d do best to eat plenty of red meat, for instance, or if you’re the type who should be somewhat more of a vegetarian, whether dairy is good for you, etc. Once you’re eating right and/or taking the right nutritional supplements (especially to compensate for any Rx medications you may be taking, too!), then make sure you keep your face cleansed and toned with natural, pure vegetable products (no preservatives) and use a vegetable oil such as sweet almond oil or apricot kernel oil as a moisturizer in the morning. You can let a drop of lavender essential oil fall into that oil and spread it over your face: Very cleansing and balancing. Don’t use night moisturizers.

As a new mother, get all the help you’ll need with nursing and your own nutrition concerns, so that you don’t stress out. And, in general, don’t stress out over pimples either, whether your own or your baby’s, because…they get ’em too!

Mark asks…

im curious about julia robert’s pregnancy, has it been concieved naturally or thru IVF?

Were Phinnaeus and Hazel, Julia Roberts’ twins products of in vitro fertilization IVF? I’ve read that Ms. Roberts is pregnant again, is it thru IVF? …just curious since I read an article 2 years ago that Julia wouldn’t have natural pregnancy

Michelle answers:

Her twins were a product of IVF but her current pregnancy, a boy, was conceived naturally.

Carol asks…

what to do to prepare your body for pregnancy?

I have read that taking folic acid is needed a few months prior to conception….what else do you think is needed to get your body in order so you will be nutritionally well off before trying to have a baby? I am into natural ways to treat the body so any cleansing techniques or suppliments would be a good start…..any one have any products they trust to be of good quality?

Michelle answers:

Just be as healthy as you can…

Detoxing and eating whole foods would be a good start.

You can take clay baths, as well as having the mercury fillings removed to get rid of some of the heavy metals in your body…

Folic acid in whole foods is better than supplements.

Whole foods are better than anything else for detoxing.

Drink a lot of water, and make sure you are at a good starting weight before becoming pregnant, too…exercise to get your muscles strong to help you carry the baby well is also recommended.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Donald asks…

Postive in office urine pregnancy test 2-3weeks after natural miscarriage, new pregnancy or left over hormones?

My LMP was on July5th and I probably conceived on like the weekend of the 17th so that put me at what should have been 12weeks pregnant the weekend I had a natural “completed” miscarriage on the 26th of September. I ended up in the ER due to my doctor thinking I was hemorrhaging which was HELLL. I was in SO much pain and bleeding through the thickest pads possible within like 20mins for hours. So long story short I was in the ER for a night on pain meds and then they finally did an ultrasound and said that I had a completed miscarriage and my HGC levels went from 45,000 to 15,000 since my 7th week of pregnancy. Here is another fact that may help. I ended up having like 4 trans-vaginal ultrasounds. Starting at 5weeks, 7weeks, 9weeks, and then at time of miscarriage at 12weeks. Not once did we ever see a heartbeat or fetal pole. The most seen was at 7weeks but was just both gestational and yolk sac but was thought to see small embryo, but not sure. Needless to say things were obviously not right so at my 9week followup I was told pregnancy was not viable so I could have a D&C whenever or wait to miscarry naturally. I definitely chose natural bc I have heard of cases of miracles happening and babies ending up being viable when told they were not. So my new main concern is I went back to the doctor this past Thurs on the 14th and was told through an in-office urine test that I was pregnant again!!!! I for some reason do not believe her as I do not think there has been enogh time TO get preg again. I did have sex 2weeks after MC, but protected with a condom. She did HCG blood work on Thurs and then again today but I was told it will be a few days before I get results. I kept telling the midwife that it HAD to be leftover HCG from pregnancy and she seems to think that after 3weeks I should have been back to normal or at least too low for urine test. I argued with her for a good minute but she still seemed to think I was pregnant. I am in denial, maybe? I would love to have a blessing of a child, but just not right now. Scared that not right now, might be too late. So anyone that can ease my mind? Similar cases that just turned out to be leftover hormones?
UPDATE!!!: So I got my bloodwork done Mon and the results today. My HCG went from like 260 last week to 23 on Monday so definitely NOT pregnant again thank goodness. I still question why my DR was soooooo set on the fact that I was. I do not feel it was professional of her to try to say I definitely was without knowing. Oh well. Hopefull this can help someone else that may be in a similar situation to know that HCG can hang around for that long. Hope this isn’t TMI, but I actually started my period this morning too, so apparently all the HCG is gone now?! Goodluck to anyone that may read this and be in similar situations. Hopefully I never have to go through this again and can have a healthy baby one day!!!

Michelle answers:

Most of the time its left over HGC. Only way to tell is if they start doing blood work and checking the level of the hormone to see if it gets higher. It is possible but really I was told the HGC stays in Your system for a while. It doent go away over night. They even tell you when taking prego test that you need to wait a good month.. Truth is that you are pretty fertile after a miscarriage and delivery of a baby up to average is 3 months. I say wait things out. Also the symptoms of being pregnant do not go away right way. Your body just went through trauma. Give it some time take care of yourself and see what is happening.

Paul asks…

okay 5 weeks after 11 weeks pregnant natural miscarriage is it too early to test for pregnancy?

i have not had a period yet
and don’t say they told you to wait. things happen.

Michelle answers:

For best results wait for a few months ?!?!?!?!
Many many many people get pregnant just after a natural miscarriage and have no problems whatsoever and therefore many GP’s (including my own) don’t indicate that there is a need to wait. In fact, you are more fertile after a miscarriage and your body is well known to respond better after it has done a practise run.
I tested 5 weeks after a miscarriage and it was positive, beta HCG levels indicated that this was indeed a new pregnancy (levels >50) and they were doubling as they should indicating that it was a viable pregnancy.

If you test now you may find that the test is a bit faint positive as the levels of hcg in your system may be a bit low but a positive is a positive.

All the best for your test and if it’s positive for your pregnancy!!!

Susan asks…

When to do a pregnancy test after a misscariage?

I had a natural miscarriage 13 days ago.
I was 5 weeks so there were no complications of anything.
Me and my boyfriend have started trying again 2 days ago and will continue to do so for another 3 weeks (Just to be sure when I ovulate)

So my question is when should I do a pregnancy test?

(Im showing negative at the moment as Im back to normal with HCG levels)
I went to the doctors on Monday and got the all clear and he said he was fine to start trying again!

Michelle answers:

After my missed miscarriage at 12 weeks and d&c i started trying again two days later with the ok from my doctor. As long as there were no complications you should be fine. Im pregnant again and 35 weeks and my babys fine,so trying again so soon doesnt give any risk to the pregnancy. My doctor said the only reason they like to say wait is so they know when you ovulated and they can tell the age of the baby better. And so that your also menatlly ok. After a miscarriage or d&c your uterus is fine and clean so it’s a better enviroment for a pregnancy anyway.
If your getting negative tests that means the pregnancy hormone is out of your body so you can ovulate, give it about two or three weeks and get a blood test done at your doctors and that will tell you if you are pregnant. Or you could buy a few home tests and test every two weeks,or until your periods get back on track and you you kow when you’ve missed one.
Good luck and im sorry for your loss……………baby dust to you.

Thomas asks…

are there any natural supplement that would cause a false negative on a pregnancy test?

yes herbal natural meds/supplements not weed

Michelle answers:

Like herbal medicine? Not marijuana right? Cause Marijuana can cause many birth defects!
Nothing will make you have a false negative.. But if your urine is very diluted.. Like.. You drank alot of water a few hours before testing, then yes.. You may have a false negative.

Your Questions About Natural Remedies In Pregnancy

Donald asks…

Why is it soo hard?

I’m 40 weeks pregnant, 4cm, 70% effaced, and have been in on and off labor for weeks. My Midwife suggested castor oil to speed things up but it’s not proven safe because of the chance of meconium in the water. Blue and black cohosh
are considered healthier but pose the same threat. Why are natural labor inducers looked down upon but pitocin is just as scary and maybe even more harmful. So at this point, they want to let me go until 41 weeks, and then try the natural remedies. At that point is the pregnancy at risk for stillborn? They won’t send me to the hospital until after 42 weeks, and I’m not comfortable with that because by then, there’s such a risk of me losing him. What can I do? Sex, walking and nipple stimulation only trigger mild contractions that will not keep. Is there anything that’s actually going to work that’s safe for us to try? How long after 40 weeks is my pregnancy considered at risk for stillborn? I know I sound frazzled, but I’m not getting anywhere. HELP!!

Michelle answers:

Hey, don’t worry your not frazzled your worried about your baby, which every pregnant woman is. As far as i know natural labor inducers are looked down upon while your in the middle of your pregnancy but if your already 4 cm i don’t get why they wont let you. Anyways, your best bet right now is try to relax. With being so worried that might be the reason why your contractions aren’t consistent and why you wont go into full labor. If you wait to go to the hospital until 42 weeks and you still arnt in active labor they will give you pitocin or a cesection, depending on how dialated and effaced you are then. What i would do is look in the phonebook for a hotline to call or maybe even a hospital to find the safest way to go. Just so you know, hospitals will automatically tell you to come to the hospital because with you being 40 weeks its coming to the end in your pregnancy and their could be a reason that your baby isn’t ready to come out, maybe because the umbilical cord is wrapped around its neck. Call around, get some advice, and wait a week and if your still 4 cm I would go to the hospital- it just sounds like that would be the best for your baby. Hope this helps, and remember, just try to relax- it could speed up your contractions and put you into labor! Good luck!!!

Sandra asks…

Pinworms and pregnancy?

OK. Really embarrassing and pretty gross, but here goes.

I am almost in my third trimester of pregnancy
I am a teacher, and there was an outbreak of pinworms in my classroom. I began showing symptoms (itchy rectum) , and at my check up with my OB, she conducted a tape test and did not find anything, but I had just taken a shower.

She as an OB has never treated pinworms, and did a bit of research and prescribed me mebendazole, going on only one bit of research conducted in sri lanka. When I got home, I called the pharmacist and my primary care physician, and both recommended I not take the medicine because pinworm is not dangerous and the drug is.

So, my question is, if I continuously wash myself and change my clothes and linens, is it possible that this will clear up because the eggs have no way of reinfesting upon hatching? Or am I doomed to itch for the next 3 months until I deliver and can safely take the medicine?

Is there a natural remedy that I don’t know about? Help!!!

Michelle answers:

Easy to say do nothing unless you’re going through it!

I found this information online and included the link if you’d like to check it out for yourself.

“Some Naturopaths prescribe spigelia for pinworms. It
is safe to use in pregnancy. Others suggest ingestion of pumpkins seeds and garlic for a period of ten days to two weeks. It is important for all family members to be treated and this includes bathing every morning to wash away ova that have been deposited outside the anus. Snug fitting underwear and regular handwashing as well as washing of bedsheets will also reduce reinfestation.”

They also advise not sharing baths or towels and warn about toilet seats.

Helen asks…

Flu in late pregnancy 38 weeks…if is not to severe can it harm my baby if left untreated?

I’m 38 weeks and so far i was doing excelent. I took no medications during this pregnancy except my vitamins. I eat healty, exercise and did all the right things. And now with only two weeks to go it HIT me with a bad cold/flu. Is been 3 days since I saw my doctor, at that time I only had a sore throat and took some halls menthol, but now I have stuffy nose, burning eyes, bit of headake, temperature comes and goes(like hot flashes) and sore muscles. I will see my doctor in 4 days.
Until now I was going to the pool to swim and stretch in the warm water for an 1.30-2h/day, and this makes me feel so good.
What I want to know is if my cold, as long is just mild can harm my baby if I l do not take any medication, instead just get some natural remedy, honey, lemon and also continue my daily swiming?
I can handle it well for my self and don’t feel the need of bed restriction, however I do not know how it will affect my baby if I push myself to just hang in there.
Any sugestions?

Paul asks…

Is there a natural remedy for uterine fibroids?

I don’t have bothersome symptoms, but I have 6 large fibroids. I want to get pregnant in the future. My doctor said I’ll have no trouble getting pregnant, but I’m likely to have trouble during pregnancy. I keep myomectomy as a last resourt. Cause there are so many possible complications like adhesions and having to have a C-section. I want my body to get rid of them naturally. Any advise? Like exercise or fasting? I know that fibroids a hormone-dependent. I also know that girls lose their period if they fast long enough. Will that do anything?

Michelle answers:

I answered your other question and seeing this makes me feel for you as it must be awful fearing you may not be able to have kids.

I couldn’t find too much but I did search and found this

The great Dr John R Christopher said burdock helps fibroids..if taking use an organic tincture..the usual dose is two dropperfuls (60 drops)..3-5 times a day..I would use 5 times a day. A dropperful is what remains in the eyedropper of a tincture bottle when you squeeze the bulb, inset into the herbal tincture formula, release eyedropper top..what remains in the drop is called a dropperful and looks about half full..this eliminates the need to count drops. A few off will not hurt on herbs.

A good brand is herbpharm..they have a good burdock blend. Burdock is not harmful..it is a blood cleanser and sold in some places as a food,.

http://www.herballegacy.com/Light_Chemical.html

I once read his woman’s herbal years ago but can’t remember if he addressed fibroids there but it may be worth a shot..I got it from interlibrary loan.

It is also sold here–

Also curezone has a lot of excellent health info..here is some of the things on fibroid there.

Http://www.google.com/custom?hl=en&client=pub-0846790371736460&cof=FORID:1%3BGL:1%3BLBGC:336699%3BLC:%230000ff%3BVLC:%23663399%3BGFNT:%230000ff%3BGIMP:%230000ff%3BDIV:%23336699%3B&domains=curezone.com&sitesearch=curezone.com&oe=ISO-8859-1&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=result&cd=1&q=fibroids&spell=1

so I would revcommend this book and the ons by linda page and balche in the other questions for hormone balancing and the burdock and further research on curezone and elsewhere to trying to dissolve the fibroids.

Also maybe Dr Richard schulze’s incurables formula may help..(push enter and go to the incurables program..he is the one with the female herbal formula and said he never failed to help infertile woman or women with female problems who wanted to have a child fail..I bet he used his incurables formula with his female herbs..also see his index in the catalog found at herbdoc.com

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Lisa asks…

I need to ask questions about what’s going on with my pregnancy right now.?

Ok. I am 30 weeks pregnancy and have been admitted into the hospital for bleeding. I was told that I had a venous lake and was put on bed rest. The doctors have also told me that my heart rate is high ranging from 99-120. They think that is just natural for me though. I was dismissed from the hospital for two days and then went back again for bleeding. My water hasn’t broken, but I am 1cm dilated with no effacement. The baby’s head is still high. Last night, the baby’s base heart rate was rather low for two hours, but now it is getting higher and back to normal. The doctors are unsure of why the baby’s heart rate was king of low and are not exactly sure of what is causing the bleeding. They are keeping me for at least another day for evaluation. I recieved a steroid shot in my lower back for the baby’s lungs before I fell asleep last night. The doctors keep mentioning that they are hoping not to have to induce labor when it is unneccesary adn they are just trying to sort things out… I head one of the nurses whispering to another about me behind my back, but I couldn’t make out what she was saying. I am not sure what is going on. I am 18 years old and this is my first pregnancy and I don’t want my baby being born ten weeks early.. I don’t feel as if the doctor’s are being straight with me and I need to know. Does it seem as if it could possibly be necessary to induce labor?

Michelle answers:

If your bleeding continues, and if your baby shows signs of distress (like a low heart rate that is alarming), then yes, you will need to deliver early, and it would most likely be via c-section if the baby is in severe distress or the bleeding is heavy.

The good news is that at 28 weeks gestation newborn survival rates are over 95%, your baby would be fine at 30 weeks and would just need some extra time to grow in the hospital, to maintain it’s body temp and blood sugar, to learn to feed and breathe at the same time, etc. 10 weeks sounds really early, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not too bad, considering some women deliver extreme preemies at 23 weeks and they weigh less than a pound.

You need to be assertive and ask your doctor and nurses more questions about what is going on. If you feel like they are “talking behind your back” you need to speak up and ask them what is being said. You are not a helpless passenger along for the ride. . . This is your body, your baby, and your care that you are in charge of, and they should be keeping you in the loop over everything happening.

David asks…

Are my breasts getting any bigger, or is my tummy growing so fast that it is difficult to tell?

I am 28 years old and enjoying my first successful pregnancy!!! YIPPEE! Up until about 25 I was a steady 34 B, but about 3 years ago I got pregnant and jumped to a 34 C by week 10. Unfortunately, I misscarried, but the natural breast enhancement stayed for the long haul. I am now 20 weeks into this pregnancy and am wondering, “Are my boobs ever going to grow?” Are they going to balloon in the last month or so, or what? Just trying to prepare for the best/worst of any given situation. Looking forward to your words and thanks for your time.

Michelle answers:

Congratulations. With my pregnancy my body chanced so much 5 years later I am still struggling getting back where I started. Now trying to conceive and also don’t know how everything will change this time.Good luck

1st time mother. Pregnancy Questions?

Ok so I’m 21 weeks & 5 days preganant YAY ME!!!! & I think every little thing that I feel is wrong. I kno it sounds weird but I’m so worried. I haven’t gone to the doctor b/c I eat healthy, get plenty of water & rest, & I want on doing everything super natural like bakk n the old days. My sister is a nurse so I ask her a lot of stuff but now she’s ignoring me b/c I’m worried about every little thing. Ok, I think the baby is moving but I’m not sure. Sometimes it actually feels like kicks & sometimes it feels like gas. Idk which is what. But when I feel those gas like bubbles I actually pass gas, so idk if its the baby or not. I’m also worried about me not being big enough. I’m 5’9. 138lbs & I’m not showing at all!!!! & I still wear a size 5. I also haven’t gain much weight. & my nipples are soooooo sore. Has anyone ever gone through this???
i dont mean i have never been to the doctor, i mean from my last appointment. im sorry i worded the question wrong

Michelle answers:

Okay, sorry, misunderstanding 🙂 Just really bugs me when I hear of people not seeing a doctor because it’s not ‘natural’.

Maybe sometimes it is kicks and sometimes it is gas. 21 weeks is still early to feel constant movement, the big kicks will come in time.
Your body size isn’t really that important. Your doctor should be measuring your uterus and if that is growing properly I wouldn’t worry. My friend didn’t show until she was 7months along and then she ‘exploded’, as she puts it.

Get the What to Expect book along with any other book that interests you, I have 4 pregnancy books and 1 birthing book. You can never read enough about the different aspects of pregnancy, you will always still have questions.

Just know to trust yourself. If you really think there is less movement, call/see your doctor. But if you know you’re just being paranoid, keep that in mind before you pick up the phone or make the trip.

Your Questions About Natural Ivf Success

Laura asks…

What are the pills called? I have a 5 yr old daughter and a 3 month old daughter – We really want twin boys..

I have no trouble getting pregnant however I have very uncomfortable pregnancies and i dont think I can go through it more than one more time.. we want two more kids.. whats the best way other than IVF to try for multiples… natural supplements? Does anyone have any success stories with natural or herbal supplements for this?

Michelle answers:

If your singleton pregnancies were uncomfortable, a twin pregnancy might be unbearable for you. No reputable doctor would cause you to have twins merely for convenience- carrying twins increases the risks to babies and to mother.

Mary asks…

Questions about IVF.?

I had a natural birth about 3 years ago. When my child was a toddler he passed away. My husband and I have been trying for about 2 years to have another baby. However we have been unsuccessful. So we have been considering IVF. We are actually starting the first stage of the program. And we are due to go to consultation by the end of the month. What are the statistic with have multiple children through this process. I don’t mind either way but for the record would love twins if it is Gods plan. Are there any success stories. Also I am 29 years old. Please only people that are serious. Please give me Stats and your opinon about IVF. Lastly let me know if you had any success with this procedure. Also I am getting this done in the United States so there is no need for any information about getting this done in India. How is the HSG?. I am getting that done tomorrow.

Michelle answers:

This is a good place to find answers to your questions: http://www.sart.org/find_frm.html. It is the Society for Assisted Reproduction National Summary for 2005. You can click on any state and find fertility clinics in your area. Then, you can read the stats about the clinic: overall success, twin rates, success by age category, and total number of procedure done at the clinic each year. This is a reputable source and is used by the women on most infertility forums for data. It is not affiliated with any one clinic, and the info is purely based on what is reported to the CDC. It should answer your questions about your chance of having twins and the success rate at your clinic for you age group.

I have done 3 IVFs and finally had success with the last one. I am currently 35 weeks with a single baby (we put back 2 embryos this last cycle).

The HSG is kind of embarrassing and awkward, getting up on that xray table and having to hold a certain position while the dye is injected and the film is taken. It was a little painful for me, with a sharp cramp that lasted aout 30 seconds. I had no blockage, and I have heard it can be more painful if there is blockage. I felt crampy (like light menstrual cramps) for about 2 days after the procedure.

From hanging out on the IVF boards, it certainly seems that people who have had natural pregnancies in the past have an easier time getting PG with IVF (we had never been pregnant after 8 years of trying, not even once). I hope that the IVF works for you so that you can have another baby to love very soon. Hugs.

Lizzie asks…

help, need advice for trouble TTC?

We have been TTC for about 20 months and in nov 09, I was diagnosed with bilateral tubal occlusion (both fallopian tubes are blocked) by getting an HSG done. Our options were IVF or laproscopic surgery. Since I’ve been doing research and I think that the first HSG was wrong and the pain (I didn’t have meds) made my tubes spasm and close because I’m only 20 and have not had any injury to my abdomen or a disease to make it impossible to get pregnant… Now, I don’t want to go thru IVF yet because I don’t wanna put my body thru that at this moment, and we have to save the money for it first since Tricare won’t cover any of it. I’m also worried that the surgery will damage my ovaries and/or cause scar tissue to grow where it shouldn’t, so I’m hesitant to do that as well. I have started the process of getting a 2nd HSG to be sure they are in fact blocked because I’ve heard stories where the 1st HSG showed they were blocked and the 2nd showed they were 100% clear, but I want to know what else I can do! I’ve been taking prenatal pills and I’ve tried changing my diet, excersising, going on vacations to “just relax”, I stopped charting and using OPKs so I wouldn’t worry about it and end up making sex a chore… but still nothing. Any advice or success stories?? (Stories that don’t have anything to do with success with IVF please, IVF is just not an option for us right now. But lapro stories and natural conception after diagnosis stories are welcome!) Thanks a lot in advance 🙂

Michelle answers:

Hi,

It seems very odd that you were not given pain medication for this procedure and that your tubes are blocked without having any real reason for them to be. Did they mention this may be a birth defect? Do you have endometriosis, ovarian cysts or uterine fibroids? All of these can cause scar tissue and adhesions which may lead to blocked fallopian tubes. HSG can cause scar tissue and damage. You may want to seek a second opinion.

There are some natural ways to work toward unblocking your tubes. These methods when combined over many months 3-6 may reduce scar tissue, adhesions and unblock fallopian tubes.

-Fertility Enzyme Therapy is a method for helping the body clear itself of excess tissue, breakdown scar tissues, cleanse the blood, increase circulation to the reproductive organs and reduce immunological response.

Fertility Enzyme Therapy may help to reduce the scar tissues that are blocking your fallopian tubes. A specific systemic enzyme found in Zymessence eats away and reduces the fibrin (the material that makes up scar tissue) over time. This therapy is extremely effective at reducing scar tissue.

-Self Fertility Massage and Castor Oil Packs

One of the greatest benefits of massage is the ability to break up adhesions. Self Fertility Massage™ gently helps to break up adhesions while helping the body to get rid of the remaining tissues. The techniques used in Self Fertility Massage include massaging the fallopian tubes in addition to the uterus and ovaries. Massage provides a great non-intrusive option for women with blocked fallopian tubes.

A Castor Oil Pack is a cloth soaked in castor oil which is placed on the skin to enhance circulation and promote healing of the tissues and organs underneath the skin. Castor oil therapy assists blocked tubes by helping to soften the tissues prior to Self Fertility Massage™ and increase circulation and healing power to the area.

There are also herbs that can reduce inflammation, are antibiotic in nature and increase circulation.

You can learn more about ways to help blocked fallopian tubes using natural methods at the link below.

I am sorry you got this diagnosis, I hope you can find some good answers!

Nancy asks…

Found out there is no chance of getting pregnant……..?

After 1 year of TTC we found out that we have no chance of getting pregnant the natural way. The only option we have is to go for IVF (invitro fertilisation), then we would only have a 10% chance of conceiving. The problem lies with my husband.

My question is….do you know of any success stories of people who got pregnant after the doctor said there is no chance?

Thank you in advance for all answers.
As I said. The problem is with my husband……

Michelle answers:

Omg hun if there was one dollar for every time ive heard a story about a doctor saying a woman cant have kids and then she concieves id be a millionaire…

Once there was a 18 yesr old girl and the doctor said that there is noway in the world she will ever have a child basically there was something in her uterus that was irrepairable even with ivf they said very very very low chance … So she stopped having protected sex with her bf …she didnt get her periods and kept getting bigger and nauseous etc went to the doctor and she was pregnant…here she is today a woman who was suppose to have no kids has TWO now!

My cousin was told she wont have kids she kept miscarrying and now she has two

– DO NOT LISTEN TO DOCTORS when they say this because they are not God – only God could make you not have kids and if its written down for you to have them then sweet you will…

Goodluck and im sure ill be hearing your pregnant soon …have faith xx
