Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Products

Thomas asks…

Does anyone know what natural herbs can help with acne, triggered by hormonal imbalance???

I heard that acne can be caused by hormonal imbalance and I think it makes sense. I’ve had 2 pregnancies, during wich my skin cleared, I think it was because of hormonal changes during pregnancy. I’ve tried many products like proactive, but they only work for a short period of time, and then stop working. I want to give herbs a chance. If you have any suggestions I’ll be very thankful to know them.
Thank you so much for the answers given to me. But it seems like I wasn’t understood. What I need to know is what herbs taken in form of tea can help with hormonal imbalance. Applying things on my face only deals with the outside not the inside.

Michelle answers:

Helen asks…

Pregnancy and acne?

Does anyone know of any all natural facial products that are safe to use while pregnant? Like something from Whole Foods that actually works. I am currently using some natural shea butter milk cleanser from there, but it is still making my skin break out. I don’t want to use anything with chemicals, so that is my dilemma.
I am also using tea tree oil cleansing pads, but that doesn’t seem to help either. Who knows, maybe my skin would be worse without it, so it could be working.

Michelle answers:

I use Aloette Skincare Products…. It’s products are made with 100% aloe. It’s a little pricy, but it works soooo great! I use the Simply Clear Value Package (without the Acne Spot Treatment Cream – it has sulfur in it, and wouldn’t be good for the baby)…. It seems like a little bit, but you only need a TINY amount a day, and it’ll last up to 2 months. You can go to their website:
http://www.aloette.com

Steven asks…

Anything safe to use for constipation?

I’m drinking tons of water, eating fruit, whole grain breads, fiber pills twice a day. I can’t think of anything else I can do that’s pregnancy approved!
I’ve always been a person that had to use a laxative a couples times a week to go anyhow. I’ve heard that there are some all natural colon cleanse products that are ok to use when pg, but I certainly don’t want to do anything that will hurt the pg at all.

Michelle answers:

You can use Senokot. My doctor recommended it for me during my first trimester. You can take one to 2 a day. It is a natural vegetable laxative…totally safe. I recommend calling your doctor and checking to see if he/she says you can take it first, but mine swears by it! Good luck!

Senokot can be purchased pretty much at any grocery store, walmart, target, walgreens, etc!

The Bible is rather clear that homosexuality is an “abomination,” as stated in Leviticus 18:22, just a few lines below the edict in Leviticus 11:10-12 stating that eating shrimp is an abomination. The crustacean passage is not much of any issue for most people, hence no demonstrators picketing Red Lobster with dire warnings that the April all-you-can-eat shrimp fest may trigger Armageddon.

??If god really wanted us to be “Fruitful and Multiply”, why would god cause approximately ONE THIRD of all pregnancies end in Spontaneous Abortions? (I.E. Miscarriages)

††† Miscarriage
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spontaneous_abortion
Many miscarriages happen very early in the pregnancy, before a woman may know she is pregnant. Prospective studies using very sensitive early pregnancy tests have found that 25% of pregnancies are miscarried by the sixth week LMP (since the woman’s Last Menstrual Period).[29][30] Clinical miscarriages (those occurring after the sixth week LMP) occur in 8% of pregnancies.[30]

The prevalence of miscarriage increases considerably with age of the parents. One study found that pregnancies from men younger than twenty-five years are 40% less likely to end in miscarriage than pregnancies from men 25–29 years. The same study found that pregnancies from men older than forty years are 60% more likely to end in miscarriage than the 25–29-year age group.[33] Another study found that the increased risk of miscarriage in pregnancies from older men is mainly seen in the first trimester.[34] Yet another study found an increased risk in women, by the age of forty-five, on the order of 800% (compared to the 20–24 age group in that study), 75% of pregnancies ended in miscarriage.[35]

?? If god says abortions are bad, why does he give a ritual for when abortions are OK?

“And when he hath made her drink the water, then it shall come to pass, that, if she be defiled, and have done trespass against her husband, that the water that causeth the curse shall enter into her, and become bitter, and her belly shall swell, and her thigh shall rot: and the woman shall be a curse among her people. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed.” Numbers 5:27-28 http://www.blueletterbible.org/kjv/Num/Num005.html#27

Comment:
This nonsensical ritual, prescribed by God, to a woman suspected of infidelity, must undergo the drinking of a vile concoction made of bitter water and dust from the floor of a tabernacle. A priest calls a curse upon the woman’s head to insure that if she has acted in adultery the drinking of the liquid will cause her to have a miscarriage. If she comes out clean, then she shall conceive.

Linda asks…

Did you have an unplanned c-section for your 1st birth? how did it feel emotionally?

I am 4 months pregnant with my 1st and really hoping for a natural vaginal delivery, the c-section does get me a bit nervouse but its not because of that i would not want to have one, i just am very emotional about having the whole giving birth to your child experience, with out pain medication if possible and naturally. I think i would feel like they stole a beautiful experience for me, i worry i might feel so depressed about it that i wouldnt be able to be as good as a mother during those days of getting over the fact i didnt give birth naturally. I would like any tips you have to avoid c-sections & will like to hear your experience if you did have a c-section. I would do it if it was nessesary but i feel alot of times they do a c-section with out truely being needed. I am 4 foot 10 inches really short and skinny i weight 90 pounds pre – pregnancy. My older sister is like me to and delivered naturally but i still get scared they might do a c-section just cause im small or other things.

Michelle answers:

Congratulations! I have had 2 c-sections, both of my children, and never delivered vaginally. Of course I wanted to deliver naturally, but for some reason, both of my children just didn’t want to come out on their own =) I wish that I could have had the experience of delivering, but that just wasn’t in the plan and it was something that you really don’t have much control over in most situations. The c-section itself really is not that bad because you are focused on seeing your baby, sure you are nervous, scared, etc, but the operation itself is over very quickly and then they show you your beautiful baby right away. The only thing I really did not like was that you have to go to recovery after and it took about an hour before I could actually hold each one of my children. (Because of anesthesia) That is the hardest part and I don’t know if that is standard practice in all hospitals or not. I had explicit instructions with my family that no one was allowed to hold my baby before me! The moment you have them in your arms…nothing else matters. It doesn’t matter how you gave birth, the only thing that matters is that beautiful baby that you created is in your arms!

I don’t have any regrets at all because I have two beautiful, perfect, little angels and if I would have decided not to have the c-sections that may not have been the case, it could have ended up with tragic consequences.

Keep in mind, the last thing the doctors want to do is to put the mother through an unnecessary procedure. They do keep the safety and well-being of the mother and child first and foremost at all times. Talk to your ob/gyn about it and see what they are thinking, that is what they are there for and trust me they have heard everything imaginable, so don’t ever be afraid to ask a question no matter how bazaar you might think it is. I am sure they have heard it all!

Michael asks…

Third Pregnancy??

Okay including this time it is my 3rd pregnancy. The first was a miscarriage and the second I have a beautiful 10 month old son. My father is a natural triplit (although one died at birth), and on my husbands side his brother has twins. I am sure there are more somewhere.
During this pregnancy (I am only around 5 weeks) I have felt sick, and tired and my breast are tender. Very early, we are talking about 3 weeks on. Is it possible there are twins in there? I never even felt pregnant with the other two.

Michelle answers:

Fraternal twins run on the maternal side (mother side) this is hyperovulating and is passed from grandmother and/or mother. You have a higher chance of conceiving fraternal twins if your grandmother was a fraternal twin or had fraternal twins, same goes for your mother. Hyperovulating is not passed from your fathers side nor can your significant other’s history of twins cause you to become pregnant with twins as his history wouldnt effect the number of eggs you release. Identical twins are completely spontaneous so any family history will not effect your chances. The only way to know if you are carrying twins is by ultrasound, that is 100%. There are other signs but nothing but an ultrasound is accurate. Some factors can aid in you conceiving fraternal twins and some of those are age (older women have a higher chance of hyperovulating) race (fraternal twins more common among african americans) height and weight (taller and heavier women are more prone to hyperovulating as well.

Helen asks…

cervix is anyones always open?

Is anyone a cervix checker. I recently had a baby she is for months old. Throughout the pregnancy my cervix remainded 1cm dilated on the external os but the internal os ws closed. My cervix measured 4 cm in length which was good. My question is after child birth why does the cervix never fully close up. I have heard of people able to fit a full index finger into their cervix because after childbirth it never fully closes. So i checked mine and i am able to fit a finger through my cervix. I did not have natural childbirht I had a c section but in the past i have had several d and cs. Could this be why my cerix is not completly closed. Does this mean I wil not be able to carry my next child to term because my cervix is not fully closed. Peopl with knowledge and and proffesionals to answer please as i no not want to worry myself over an answer which is incorect. Thank you x
For the forth person who answered my question you are infact wrong. It was my cervix and yes i could insert a finger into it. Whilst I was pregnant I had several examinations and was told this. I know what a cervix feels like.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy After Ivf

Paul asks…

Has anyone conceived a baby naturally with a low sperm motility?

My husband has poor motility but a very high sperm count. I am completely normal. We have only been trying for a year – should we keep trying for a bit longer or go straight to IVF? I have just had a fallopian tube test that can apparently increase fertility for the following four months – should we keep trying naturally until after that point? Has anyone had a natural pregnancy after one of those tests? Your personal experiences would be most appreciated.

Michelle answers:

No personal experience to share, sorry. But, have you ever heard of the conception cap? It is perfect for men with slow swimmers. Unfortunately you can not buy it separate. Unless you can find one on e-bay, it took me some time, but I found one. Normally, it comes in a complete conception kit. It is made by Conceivex.

Collect your husbands sperm during sex using a non latex condom, transfer into the flexible conception cap, insert the cap and place directly on the cervix. Sperm have a direct line to the cervical opening.
A “head start”.

We have used it a couple of times, no success, We just started our first round of Clomid, plan on using the conception cap faithfully this month. Good luck to you. Keep me posted.

Betty asks…

Will Canada HealthCare cover tummy tuck after twin pregnancy?

I am 22, 5″4 and I was pregnant with twins. They are natural (no IVF) I weighed 130lbs prepregnancy and weighed 205lbs when I delivered. I am down to 145lbs, 4 months after giving birth. My stomach is disgusting. The skin is grotesque, there is little to no fat on it, its just loose skin hanging there. I have tried using support garments to push the skin back, but my doctor informed me that its gone back as much as it ever will. I cannot wear properly fitting pants etc. I am curious if canada health care provides any coverage towards a tummy tuck procedure? My abdominal muscles are also split in two from having such a large pregnant stomach and according to what I have read online with the procedure they also stitch the muscles back together. Does anyone have any information regarding this question? Thanks

Michelle answers:

Oh my God…you are like my Canadian twin! I am 5’2′ and had twins 3 years ago. I,too, was 130 pounds before getting pregnant, went up to 205 when I delivered, and dropped down to 145 – 150 within months. How weird is that?

Here is the bad news. I finally got back down to 130 about a year and a half after they were born….and someone asked me if I was pregnant again. My disgusting belly made me look pregnant! I became so ashamed of my body, that I put weight back on and went back to 150lbs. I was even an aerobics instructor before they were born, and I could not do anything to get rid of that stupid sag.

So, I had a tummy tuck and hip liposuction in July. Best thing ever. Doctor tightened up my abdominal muscles too. What a huge difference. It only removed about 5 pounds, but my body is totally remolded. It is amazing, and it was one of my best decisions in my life (other than marrying my husband!)

I never thought I could afford a tummy tuck…especially with twins!….but my doctor set me up with FINANCING through Capital One Health Care Finance, and I am paying about $180 a month for a $8600 surgery (in Connecticut). I’m not sure if they are available in Canada, but you should talk to a plastic surgeon and see if they have a financing company that they work with, too. In the US, health care / insurance would NOT cover the surgery….because it is “cosmetic.”

I would give yourself a little more time to lose the weight, but maybe visit a plastic surgeon or two to get some consultations. They will let you know about the health care coverage as well. Maybe there is a way to get it covered in Canada.

Best wishes with your new twins. The first year is by far the hardest! Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions!

Susan asks…

successful PGD/IVF after trisomy losses?

i m 40 – had 2 trisomy losses recently(w/natural pg). Now considering PGD for next round. I prefer not to do IVF but I don’t want to repeat same losses anymore.
Has anyone had a successful pregnancy with PGD/IVF(also anyone with similar situation)? I’d like to share your experience.

Michelle answers:

I haven’t had a successful pregnancy after PGD/IVF, but I am also 40 years old and I have had two trisomy losses. The irony was, one was with my egg and the other with donor egg. So unfair to have trisomy with a young donor egg. I was told that PGD would substantially increase the chances of a successful pregnancy since they could test for trisomy in the embryos. However, I opted not to do another IVF since luck didn’t seem to go our way.

I do know of other women who have gotten successfully pg with IVF with PGD after having had trisomy losses.

But since PGD isn’t 100% accurate and even if you do get a healthy embryo, there still isn’t a 100% chance of it implanting, we opted to stop treatment.

Best of luck to you…

Joseph asks…

Need help from someone who knows! Can orgasm interfere with implantation?

After you ovulate, can having an orgasm interfere with the implantation of the embryo? I am so confused…when I look on the internet on regular sites it says it won’t interfere with implantation, however on sites about IVF it says to refrain from sex for 2-3 weeks after the IVF because the contractions of the uterus during orgasm can interfere with implantation! Which is true?

Is there something different about implantation via IVF than implantation in natural pregnancy? Thank you!

Michelle answers:

Yes, implantation through IVF is when the actual fertilization occurs outside the body by a doctor and then the fertilized egg, zygote, is placed in the woman’s uterus. The uterus has to be healthy enough to hold the zygote and fertilize it at this early stage. So therefore any contractions of the uterus could release the egg. When fertilization occurs naturally you may have sex and the egg may not be fertilized for any number of days, depending on when sex occured and your ovulation day and then the egg places itself without help into the uterine wall. As far as having an orgasm messing up natural conception, I’m pretty sure it doesn’t happen, it may, but since it is so early on in a pregnancy, you may never know it happened. As far as IVF, I’m sure them asking you to refrain from sex is true.

Your Questions About Natural Remedies In Pregnancy

Betty asks…

PCOS and pregnancy question?

i suffer with polycycstic ovaries, and i rarely have period (like once in a blue moon). ive been to the doctor before and she prescribed me meteformin, im no longer taking this as i split with my partner at the time. im now with a new partner and we want to try for children, is there any home remedies that anyone knows of that i can try to help conception?? i dont really want to go back to the doctor yet as i want to try natural ways as apposed to medication..

Michelle answers:

PCOS is tricky. Metformin will help in regulating some of your body systems (as it does for diabetics) but not actually get you pregnant, but it may help someone lose weight. I never took Met, but staying on it might be a good idea for the long term if your doc says it is ok. Clomid helps with ovulation however and might be worth a try. It worked for me and many others.
There are other herbs that may help too like Dong Quai and a compound called Women’s health tonic that you can find in organic or health food stores. Of course, continue taking your prenatal vitamins. Homoeopathic doctors would be able to advise you better, but these are some of the things I came across during preconception. Always check with a doc since some things can cause more harm than good.

PCOS is tough but I wish you the best.

Ken asks…

avoiding pregnancy during intercourse, how?

what is the best time to make love and not make my love pregnant? i and my love are in move in relationship for about an year. we make love almost every night. we don’t use condom because my love feel it’s artificial and don’t get mood, which in-turn make her run dry of love juices. after which involving in making love makes her get rashes in her Virgina, which burns really bad during and after intercourse. i can’t see her suffer like this. so, we stopped using condom and i make sure i don’t climax inside her and not make her pregnant. even though she is fine with this, but she gets tensed and over-worried when her periods delay by 1 or 2 days. i don’t wan ask my love to use any pills everyday.we enjoy our healthy sex life, but need some serious suggestion on what to do! just wan know if there is any condom in indian market that we can use to make intercourse feel natural? or is there any remedy other than that as we don’t wan have any kids now until we are married and settled?

Michelle answers:

You don’t have to use a condom. I have had sex for years by pulling out before I climax. Some people on here will telly that that doesn’t work and you can still get get pregnant because some sperm gets in before the climax.

They are wrong. That is not sperm, it is semen. Secondly, the only people who get pregnant when using the pull out method are the ones who DID NOT pull out in time. I don’t care who many times they lied about doing so.

I have a child now, only because I chose NOT to pull out.

There you go.

Joseph asks…

Vitamin C For Late period, I need answers from ones that actually tried it or knows someone that tried it?

I was reading online that VITAMIN C works to bring on a late period. Usually when I feel like I’m late on my period I would have sex with my hubby and that will solve the issue… I have read articles that inserting a high dose of Vitamin C (1500 mg/ day) in your vagina will induce it. I have also seen a video from a health specialist that if you drink high doses of Vitamin C will also induce your period. They said that it actually stops implantation of pregnancy & if condoms are unavailable you can actually insert Vitamin C 20-30 minutes before intercourse so you wont get pregnant. Have anyone actually tried it or knows of someone that tried it. Tell me your experience. What are other natural remedies to bring on late period? Thank you.

Michelle answers:

The Vitamin C theory is a myth. All it might do is irritate the lining of your vagina and cause bleeding from the irritation. Vitamin C supplements are ascorbic acid (the word acid should clue you in to the fact that it can be irritating).

So, no, there are no natural ways to induce a period or prevent a pregnancy. Vitamin C will only burn your vaginal tissues as it is an acid.

If your period is late and you have a negative pregnancy test, this is usually pretty normal. Every woman has a late period once in a while, usually due to stress, ovarian cysts, or a transient hormone shift.

Sharon asks…

Pregnant and tired of being a “shiny new toy”?

Sorry if this sounds rant-like.
I’m 23 weeks pregnant and I have some friends younger than me (i’m almost 18, the baby was not planned, but im keeping her so please refrain from comments on that)
I went camping this weekend and I’ve been nicknamed “preggers” and all I heard all weekend was “how far along? When are you due? Is it a girl or boy? Can I touch your belly? Are you REALLY pregnant??” and stuff like that. One girl, who’s about 12, refused to take “No” as an answer and kept trying to touch my stomach. I found it extremely uncomfortable and eventually walked off.
The questions and “can I touch your belly” are beginning to bother me,

As i’m sure many have had this issue, what did you do to have the questions and the asking about touching the stomach STOP?
As much as I don’t mind their interest, some people take it a little too far.
Thanks for the help, by the way.

Also, did anyone have a problem with rib pain during pregnancy? I may have over strained myself taking down my tent and deflating/folding up my air mattress..as well as sitting in ways that put pressure on my ribcage..any way of relieving the pain? I took tylenol, but medication is not my cup-of-tea,so I’m looking for natural remedies in case the pain returns
Rae;
Actually, I have a job, thank you.
I’m fully aware that its about my CHILD and not me. But prodding hands and questions are NOT going to go over well with me when its about my baby when she’s born, either. Random 12 year olds are not going to hold her.
as for going out with friends.. Forgive me for using my weekend off to spend time with a friend from another state.

Michelle answers:

I have some friends younger than me too. 🙂 Who would tell you not to keep it? That seems like an old idea. It sounds like you do mind their interest or you wouldn’t have walked away from them. It’s best not to draw attention to your pregnancy (more than you already are) especially when there are people present that you aren’t comfortable with. Or, simply tell them thanks for the interest, but you are tired of being prodded at! I would ask the doctor about the rib pain.

Your Questions About Natural Ivf Clinics

Thomas asks…

Why has my gynae asked me to be at the clinic after ovulation?

I am unable to concieve. I’ve visited a gyane last week….he said that i will be ovulating in 2 days and i shud have sex every alternate day to concieve.
he’s asked me to see him after 2 days as the egg is going to pop from the follicle by then. IS THERE ANY MEDICAL PROCEDURE TO HELP THE SPERM FUSE WITH THE EGG AFTER SEX????
I am just curious wat he’s going to do next??? Has anyone been thru the same situation.

PS: I am not under any treatment like IUI or IVF….my doc encourages natural conception.

Michelle answers:

Well she may want to see if you progesterone levels are good enough after Ovulation most docs see u on the 7th day after ovulation and expect levels to be at least 12-15 some higher if not you may not be ovulatin or you are not producing healthy eggs and need clomid good luck this is what happed to me
the only procedure to get egg – sperm together is ivf

Sandy asks…

Does anyone in the world have an answer to this question? I am lost!?

Ok, I will try to make this short. After i had my last daughter, I had the Essure procedure done. For those of you who dont know, it is when they put microscopic coils in your tubes and when they let go the tubes expand, causing the tubes to grow and scar around the coils. The coils go out into the uterus just a bit from what I am told. Now here is what I cannot seem to get an answer to. Do those coils have to be removed before you get pregnant? It is meant to be a permanant sterilization but my hubby and I want more. My original decision to do this was cervical cancer, I had it. It has been gone for 5 years. WHOO HOO! Anyways, I have been told I can do IVF and carry a baby with the coils, then I was told it could be harmful to the baby cause they stick out a little in to the uterus. Cause the coils aren’t hard metal like I thought. Then I was told I should just go to this clinic outof state, get them removed and I could get my tubes reconstructed and get pregnant the natural way. I don’t know what to do or what is right. No one seems to know much about this essure to tell me. By the way, either way I could pay from 8000$ TO 16,000$ so the only difference would be if I could get my insurance company to pay something and the clinic for removal only takes payment before.

Michelle answers:

From what I could find on the net about it, its a permanent form of birth control, which is highly unlikely to be reverseable and should never be used if you want more kids… There hasnt been any real studies on using IVF while having these in place so there really isnt a way to tell if you will be able to carry a baby to term with them in, or if you can carry a baby after removing them because there is always the chance for scar tissue…. Your best bet would probably be to call many OB doctor specialists to interview to see if any have experience in dealing with carrying a baby from this form of birth control and go from there.

Ken asks…

Is my blood sugar too high?

Hi, I’m hoping someone may be able to help.

I had a midwife appointment this morning – my midwife is on holiday so I seen a locum. Anyway, she gave me the blood test results including the test for gestational diabetes (blood sugar). The level was 6.7 which she said was fine but I have since been nosing around on the net and am worried that this may be high. I hadn’t eaten a meal prior to the blood being taken (apart from a Nutrigrain bar on the way to the clinic) so am wondering if this would have counted as a “fasting blood sugar level”. If it is then I am sure that it should have been lower.

Just a little worried as I am also measuring just over 2 weeks bigger than I should. If this was a natural pregnancy then I wouldn’t be too worried as sometimes due dates can be a little out but since we had IVF (or rather Frozen Embryo Transfer) our dates of conception etc are exact.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Indigo

xxx
Thanks Ana – had wondered about that but didn’t think that it would have showed in my blood so quickly as I had only eaten it 5-10 mins before the blood was taken. Thanks again for your help!

Michelle answers:

Sounds fine. The Nutrigrain bar would have contributed (it is loaded with sugar too) so it would have contributed to the reading, so you would not have counted as a “fasting blood sugar level”.

Mary asks…

To those who have/had their positive pregnancy test. It is OK to laugh?

I don’t know if this has to do with anything, if anything it is funny

Today I am day +8, after egg transfer of 2 grade 1 embryos. I have my BT on Monday and the nurse at the clinic tells me that the earliest they can detect any HcG is no sooner then day +10, but we all know what the 2 week wait is like 🙂 At the moment I can’t imagine my body is not doing anything natural at the moment due to this IVF cycle and all the meds and all that, anyway to get to the point, other then the AF pains, and the tender (.)(.) from the crinone gel I reckon, my nibbles are so dry and hard and itchy (sorry tmi) more the left then the right, but don’t know if this has anything to do with anything I just wanted to know if others have had something similar, or maybe it is just a laugh and a reaction of all the meds I have had over the last month. Heres hoping it is a positive

Michelle answers:

Dont take any notice of that stupid comment above me!!!! Im not sure but mine have been a little itchy and tender to..I have the two week wait also!!! It sux!!! Goodluck and babydust to you!!!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Remedies

Chris asks…

How can you get rid of the pregnancy mask or melasma?

i’m 15 weeks and I’m also African American and my face and neck have darkened 5 shades darker……it’s pretty black …like the color of black tar…….are there any natural remedies for this??…..

Michelle answers:

I have it too and use microdermabrasion in a jar a few times a week and sunscreen everyday, though, since you are pregnant you may want to ask your doc first.

Nancy asks…

Evening Primrose Oil for starting labor?

Has anyone ever used this during pregnancy to jumpstart labor and for swelling and high blood pressure. We are trying natural remedies for starting labor since I am at risk for developing Preeclampsia and then having to induce. I have gained 7 lbs due to water retention and swelling is out of control. I don’t want to induce because I’ve heard labor is harder and could lead to needing a C-Section. I also don’t want to use castor oil because I’ve heard too many bad things about the cramping, diarrhea and vomiting that will occur.

Michelle answers:

First off…Constult your Doctor on ANYTHING you are thinking of taking!!

Remember, what ever you put in your body, your putting in your babys body!

As for the boating and swelling, cut down on the salt! Skp the tomatoes, celery, potato chips, Doritoes and Mac &Cheese!
These are “loaded” in salt! And if your retaining water, its best to leave these out of your routine.

Walk! Moving the legs gets the water moving also and makes it come out of your system faster…(I am a heart patient so I know about water retention!).

Coffee is a natural diuretic. It will bring water out of the body also.

Drink some cranberry juice as it helps the kidneys.

DONT INDUCE until the Doctor says its ok! To do so before hand, maybe detrimental to the baby! Keep in touch with your Prenatal Care Physican for all things!

I hope you have a beautiful bouncing baby (what ever its sex is),and that the rascal is healthy as a horse and grows up to be big and strong!

I wish you well…

Jesse

George asks…

Migranes with pregnancy?

I have been getting cluster migranes lately…..anything i can do like a natural remedy?? I will speak to my Dr at my next apt…..

Michelle answers:

Common home remedies for migraine headaches include:
– Applying a cold towel on your head
– Taking a cold shower
– Take a nap
– Exercise
– Biofeedback (ask your doctor)
– Relaxation such as meditation or yoga

You may also want to consider chiropractic care. I had horrible migraines in my second trimester and they were gone within days of starting chiropractic treatment. Just be sure your chiropractor specializes in pregnant women.

Medications for Migraine relief: Most health care providers consider Acetaminophen to be the pain relief medication of choice during pregnancy. Pregnant women should NOT take anything with Aspirin unless prescribed by a doctor. There are a few prescription medications that can be taken during pregnancy if migraines persist. Consult with your health care provider about the best form of pain relief for your migraines.

Your Questions About Natural Remedies Pregnancy Headaches

William asks…

Aspirin during Pregnancy?

Sadly, I had a miscarriage this past June but just found out that I am pregnant again (5 weeks)! My Dr. put me on baby Aspirin and I’m not sure how I feel about this. I am taking 600 mg. of Progesterone (my prog. level is way low) and as an extra precaution he has me taking Asprin. I do not even take Aspirin for headaches when I’m not pregnant( I believe in natural remedies before any Tylenol/Aspirin/Antibiotics). Should I be concerned? Did any of you take Aspirin during pregnancy? Thanks for your advice!
*just to be clear, the reason he wants me on Aspirin is because of my previous miscarriage NOT to help with aches and pains. Thanks!
*just to be clear, the reason he wants me on Aspirin is because of my previous miscarriage NOT to help with aches and pains. Thanks!

Michelle answers:

ACTUALLY. BABY aspirin is just fine if taken once daily during pregnancy. I have to take it because I have antiphospholipids which could cause me to have a miscarriage or stillborn. I was already taking it prior to finding out I was pregnant and then my OBGYN told me to keep taking it so I called my rheumatologist and he said to keep taking it as well as my family care doctor which also said to keep taking it. Yes…normal aspirin is harmful but Bayer Low-Dose is not. I’m 18 weeks pregnant now with a very healthy baby.

***
Just a note….Tylenol does nothing to prevent miscarriages. Baby aspirin is used to prevent blood clots that enter the placenta and cut off blood flow to the baby. Tylenol can’t be interchanged with baby aspirin for this reason.

Donna asks…

First Trimester Pregnant & Sinus Headaches?

I’m guessing it’s sinus stuff that is causing my head to hurt. I have a lot of drainage and I normally never do! What might be a NATURAL remedy that is o.k. to do in my first trimester of pregnancy that may provide some relief? THANKS!!
no meds please

Michelle answers:

Saline nasal spray, such as Ocean. It helps keep the sinuses from drying out which allows bacteria producing drainage, etc. The only things in it are basically sea salt and water and is completely safe. Use a cool mist humidifier in your home also, if you have one. Sinus problems are very common during pregnancy b/c of changes in your body’s system. Using the saline spray every day (one spray in each nostril at morning and at night-follow directions on the bottle for how to properly spray it in) will help you all through your pregnancy and is perfectly safe. Keep in mind though that if you see any greenish drainage that you have most likely already developed a bacterial infection in your sinuses and the only way to clear it up is an antibiotic. I had several of these during my pregnancies (didn’t keep up on the saline spray lol) and the doctors make sure to give you an antibiotic that is safe for use during your stage of pregnancy.

Donald asks…

How can I relieve head congestion naturally?

Hello. I’ve had sinus pressure, head congestion, runny nose etc, for weeks now and it’s just killing me. Ruins everything and prevents me from getting work done. I’m behind in everything because I’m always lying down with sinus headaches. It’s due to seasonal allergies, but it’s really bad this year. I haven’t felt well since early September.

A complicating factor is that I’m in the first trimester of pregnancy, so that limits what I can take for relief. My OBGYN told me that Tylenol Cold & Sinus was fine, but it doesn’t work for me. Most other OTC meds are off limits.

So, do you know any natural remedy that would open my head up? A tea, an herb, or something like that? I’m really suffering with this and I’d be very grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks a bundle (and pass the tissues, please). 😉

Michelle answers:

This is a natural ancient way to care for sinus problems. Hope this helps it works great for my Son.

If you go to your local pharmacy you can probably find a “Netti Pot” it’s a little tea pot lokking thing that you fill up with a saltwater mixture and you pore it through your nasal cavities. I’ve heard this helps clear everything out and no medicine!

Sandra asks…

honey and pregnancy?

i have been a chef for 20 years and today i heard the most rediculous thing.”sorry,i cant have honey ,i am pregnant”
WHAT!!!!!Honey is one of natures most natural products and full of goodness. How the hell can it be bad for you, unless of course MAN has added some CRAP to that aswell.

Michelle answers:

The reason that this is advised is because honey can contain the botulinum spore that in the proper environment may cause the deadly food poisoning botulism. Acid will inhibit the spore from growing and producing the botulism toxin. A baby’s immature digestive system is not yet acidic enough to inhibit the toxin from being produced, whereas the digestive system of an older baby and adults is. In other words, the baby’s digestive tract provides a nice warm, air-free, low-acid environment where botulinum spores just love to grow. When it grows it will produce the toxin. The toxin produced by the spore is the danger.

A pregnant mom can safely eat honey. Her digestive tract is acidic, and will prevent a botulinum spore from growing — no toxin will be produced. There is no danger to the fetus from the mom-to-be eating honey or honey-containing foods.

James asks…

Are there ANY treatments you can use for Athletes foot whilst pregnant??

I have really annoying athletes foot and i can’t find any “over the counter” treatments suitable for use in pregnancy. I’m seeing my midwife tomorrow, but i’ve been browsing the internet and can’t find ANYTHING that i can use on it. Even all the natural products advise against using during pregnancy. I have tried washing frequently and even using salt foot soaks, but nothing seems to be working.

PLEASE HELP!!!
tea tree oil isn’t meant to be used in pregnancy…..

Michelle answers:

You can use anti-fungal creams while pregnant. Also try this: Soak your foot in a solution of 1 tsp. Salt to 1 quart of water. Soak 2-4 times a day for 10 minutes. Dry the foot thoroughly with a hair dryer, then apply anti-fungal cream (Lotrimin or clotrimazole). You may have to use a combination of both creams in order to get on top of it. Make sure you are wearing open shoes (like sandals) that expose the foot to as much air as possible….no socks either.
My son had a severe case of it, and this is what the pediatrician told us to do. I have seen great improvement when we do this treatment strictly.

Your Questions About Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Ken asks…

which pregnacy is better?i’m sort of scared.?

see, i’m 21 and i am 8 months pregnant with my first child. which is better to have, a good old natural pregnancy(at the hospital of course!), no needles or an epideral? also, is it okay to have sex during pregnacy? i am afraid it might induce labor.

Michelle answers:

I would recomend the epideral! Just my opinion.
It is the most horriable pain in the world it’s all worth it of course but why go through all that pain if you don’t have to?
It is totally healthy to have sex while pregnant unless your doctor tells you otherwise! Just don’t have rough sex or else it might make you go into labor!

Helen asks…

Does everywomen gets to her 40 weeks pregnant or can they give birth before like 35 weeks or so of pregnancy?

I am 18 years old and many people say I won’t get throught the 40 weeks of pregnancy. And some womans I know gave birth at 34 weeks and the other started having contractions at 32 w. How many weeks did you get through this is a Survey. PD I a natural birth not cesarean

Michelle answers:

With my first child I was 39 weeks when I gave birth (I was induced) and I am 33 weeks now with my second.

Chris asks…

Do you think its natural to love your children?

Is it natural for your child to be born and you just love them, or do you love them because you’ve been building that love over the pregnancy? There are some moms who obviously don’t love their kids because they kill them and beat them. And others had PPD and don’t really bond with the baby until its older. When you first saw your infant, how did you feel that very moment? What about when you found out you were pregnant?

Michelle answers:

I loved my daughter from the day I found out I was pregnant, the first time I seen her, when my doctor laid her on my chest so I could hold her and I looked into her beautiful face the love I had when I was pregnant grew so much more than I imagined it would.

Donna asks…

Why has my natural gas bill doubled?

I have natural gas heating in my house. We don’t touch the thermostat, except maybe plus or minus a couple degrees (I have hot flashes, probably hormones from my recent pregnancy). My gas bill this month was double that of any other month! Do you think I’m just using more gas, or do you think I may have a leak somewhere?

Please help! With my 9 month old in the house Im so afraid that I have a leak and I dont know what to do 🙁

Michelle answers:

If you had a leak some where you would probably have noticed it already.
-Are you heating the basement too (maybe you didn’t last year)?
-Have you been doing more laundry (in hot water)?
-Has the cost of natural gas in your area increased in therms lately?
-Do they read your gas meter every month or estimate it, then do a reading every 2-3 months?

All of those reasons could be why it went up. Plus it’s been alot colder this winter than last winter at this time!!!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy

Ken asks…

Natural pregnancy?

I am planning on getting pregnant sometime in 2008. I REALLY want to have my child with a C section. Can I tell my doctor or do I have to try having the baby the normal way? I want to get a C section because I really don’t want my vagina all stretched out, thats disgusting and way too much pain for me.
Okay excuse me for not knowing that its dangerous for the baby. People are so rude.

Michelle answers:

The way the baby goes in is the way it comes back out ,think about it

Mandy asks…

Women, would you want a natural pregnancy, given the choice?

In the not-so-distant future, it’s probable that women will have the option to have a machine carry a child from conception to “birth”. As I’m sure this method will be rapidly advanced, it will almost certainly be even healthier than natural pregnancy for the fetus, as biological mandates of the parent will no longer limit what is and isn’t available to the fetus.

And, to me, this raises an interesting question. This method will almost certainly be available, but how many women would opt in for it?

So, women… if given the choice to have a healthy machine-based pregnancy instead of a natural pregnancy, what would be your thoughts, considerations, and choice?
In hind’s sight, I guess “machine” was an overly blunt choice of words, as it sounds cold and impersonal for something as sacred as pregnancy. Rather, let’s go with “artificial womb”.
Please no rate downs or rate ups for people answering this question.

Michelle answers:

If is was healthier for the fetus, I’d chose the artificial womb. I understand the whole thing about bonding during the pregnancy, but if the baby would be born healthier, I’d pass it up. I’d feel awful if I cheated my kid out of every advantage he or she deserved.

Richard asks…

How old is too old to have a healthy natural pregnancy?

I’m not talking about in vitro fertilization or any of those things. I’m referring to your standard pregnancy. I hear that after 35, there’s a prohibitive chance of birth defects. I’m not pregnant now, nor will be in the near future, just planning ahead at 31.

Michelle answers:

Statistically, chances of birth defects increase around the age of 35, and then again after 40, and so on. But that’s not to say that you’re destined to have a bad pregnancy or unhealthy child at that age.

I think your own genetics and lifestyle plays more of a role than just your age. After all, if you turn 35, but have “the body of a 29-year-old” are your chances of having a baby with birth defects better or worse?

Mary asks…

Have you had a natural pregnancy after previous round of clomid?

I was prescribed clomid and got pregnant with my daughter on the first try. Now it has been 2 years and I have been ovulating normally, without any clomid. Are there any side effects to having previously taken clomid? Will I need to go on it again to get pregnant?

Michelle answers:

There shouldn’t be side effects for having taken the clomid before, if you’re ovulating on your own, there might not be a need for Clomid now, but only a doctor can tell you for sure, you can ask a fertility specialist online for free for advice as well, try www.FertilityTies.com
good luck!!
