Your Questions About Oldest Woman Natural Pregnancy

Betty asks…

How does one find a balanced woman?

I recently moved to a new city (Houston), and want to know how to find a good woman.

Throughout my life, I’ve never concerned myself with falling into “the fad”. I have always preferred enjoying my life, instead of just getting laid (simply because that is what makes you a real man). From my perspective, most pregnancies are created by some dude who was just too lazy (or self-centered) to “pull out”. I am a 34 year old guy who has preferred walking a positive path, instead of just doing what it takes to “be cool”. I remember a friend in my hometown who had five illegitimate children before he was even 19 years old. Apparently, coolness has it’s price. Yes, I lost my virginity at a late age…but am an excellent lover to the woman that I’m involved with.

I moved from NC to TX for a few different reasons. One of them involves being altruistic while in a relationship where she took advantage of my generosity. We had a cycle that would never end unless I made this move. I have a natural tendency of forgiveness, and always expected her to change…by seeing what she was putting me through. This approach (apparently) did not fit within her scheme. I suffered through this relationship for three years, then decided to escape…because I knew she would eventually find a way to summon me back into her life.

I decided to try a website called Plenty of Fish, because I expected my true personality to grant me good results…plus I cannot afford to pay a membership fee to another site. The women I’ve sent messages to require that no man who expects nothing more than sex, even bother to contact them. Unfortunately, these women never reply to my messages. However, my profile clearly states that this isn’t my goal. It almost feels as if they signify that requirement as a way to invite the predators.

What I want to know is this:

Why do most women claim to want a good, honest man, when they ignore those who attempt contact? A good dude will always be around, if she decided to connect with him. What prevents her from doing so, and where can one search for a woman who will give him a chance? I understand the concept set by Sandra Bullock. Some women want an untamed animal to train…but where are the women that do not seek to tame the beast? Where are the ones who prefer a beast that is already tame…and seeks nothing more than peace and serenity?

I am not a fan of Religion, so church isn’t an option.

I don’t want to hit a bar for two reasons…..

One: I’m not looking for a one night stand.
Two: I do not wish to invite an alcoholic into my life.

I’m not some desperate loser who is looking for a quick fix.
I’m a positive soul that is seeking a good companion on this journey called life.

Where is she?

Michelle answers:

I feel like you eliminated a good option. When I was reading through your story it seemed like you were a person that went to church. I’m sorry if this offends you but reading this I could tell you would have a lot in common with a woman that went to church. Something tells me you have you have a beautiful spirit. There’s a lot of single women looking to be that balanced woman for you in the church (not all of them are balanced though). Well the ones that follow the values of the bible, they seem to match your values. BUT since you’re not a fan of religion I’ll leave it alone.

What are your hobbies? Do you like poetry, comedies,or working out? The kind of lady you would want would be in normal or respectable places. Try poetry houses, comedy spots,or even the gym. You have to go to places that will attract the kind of people you would like. Poetry houses will attract more intellectuals. Comedy spots will attract people that like to laugh that are most likely fun. The gym will attract people that have goals, that want to live a healthy lifestyle.
Do you have any female friends that have single friends? Chances are if you are friends with someone that’s balanced then their friends will be balanced.

It does sound like you are looking. If you are looking, stop. The best things happen when you least expect it.
Did you ever think that you need to work on yourself before you get with anyone else. You did say that you had to move to another state to get away from you ex because you did want her coming back into your life because you are to nice to say no. Maybe you have to work on balancing yourself. If you know something is not good for you and you’re suffering then why would you stay? Balanced would be saying yes sometimes and saying no sometimes. You moved because you didn’t know how to say no(the choice to take her back) and I take it you still don’t know how to just say no? If you don’t then how do you know that if you think you’ve found this balanced woman and she isn’t. If you can’t say no then you will be in the same situation again. I’m sure you don’t want to run away from all your problems do you? Fix the real problem so you won’t have another problem.
You seem like a good guy so I’m sure you’ll have a good woman soon.
Take care of yourself sir.

William asks…

what can you say about Hypnosis in the Delivery Room/Labor Room

It isn’t for every woman, but “hypnobirthing” certainly has its fans, including Carla Breakey, a 38-year-old home business owner from Idaho. And rave reviews from women like Breakey are helping this method of natural childbirth grow in popularity around the globe.
Breakey used hypnobirthing for two of her three children. Hypnobirthing teaches women how to hypnotize themselves to manage their labor, helping them to relax and let their bodies take over. The theory is that, in the absence of fear and tension, severe pain does not have to accompany labor. In this calm state, endorphins — naturally occurring chemicals in the body that can relieve pain — replace the stress hormones that contribute to pain, proponents say.
“I enjoyed the experience a lot more and was a lot more present when I used hypnobirthing,” Breakey tells WebMD. For her first child, Breakey had a standard hospital birth with an epidural. That time, she says, “I felt like I was fighting the labor, and after the epidural was administered, I couldn’t feel anything, which was scary.”
That’s why she, along with her husband, Jeff, decided to try hypnobirthing for their second child. “I was very skeptical the first time, but the experience was unbelievable. I was relaxed, and it really does help with the pain,” she says. “With hypnobirthing, I felt confident, and when the contractions would come, they weren’t scary at all.”
And although some experts warn that undergoing any type of drug-free childbirth requires a high level of determination and commitment, proponents say hypnobirthing really can help ease women’s fears about the birth process.
“Hypnobirthing is a childbirth process that includes a major focus on many of the techniques used in hypnotherapy to relieve fear,” Pat Burrell, RN, a hypnobirthing therapist based in State College, Pa., tells WebMD. “It integrates factual information on the childbirth process along with hypnosis.” Burrell is also an instructor with the American Board of Hypnotherapy and an executive board member of the Hypnobirthing Institute in Epsom, N.H.
“Other childbirth processes approach pain as a given and try to find ways to deal with pain, from medication to massage, but hypnobirthing teaches women to transform the sensation of pain so that it feels like something else,” she says. “The healthiest way to deliver a baby is to be very relaxed and allow the body to do it. Once labor begins, it has its own momentum and mom really doesn’t need to do much of anything.”
Hypnobirthing can also be used along with other birthing processes ranging from Lamaze to pain-killing drugs, Burrell says.
Couples learn the technique by taking between four and six classes, starting after the first trimester of pregnancy. “The partner is the hypnotherapist and helps the woman get into a trance-like state, where she is fully conscious of what her body is doing,” Burrell explains. “She is very relaxed, which provides a safe and healthy environment for the baby and the mom.”
Burrell says hypnobirthing creates a strong bond between the couple as well as between the mother and her baby.
The cost varies across the country, and many insurance companies do reimburse for hypnobirthing classes, she says.
Debbie Wagner, a clinical hypnotherapist in Bellevue, Wash., has taught hypnobirthing to hundreds of expectant mothers since the early 1990s.”I have had great success with it,” she tells WebMD. “Many women have told me that they had a sense of control that wasn’t present [in previous births] after using hypnobirthing.”
But some experts warn that hypnotism may not be enough to help everyone endure the powerful pains of labor. Yvonne Thornton, MD, PhD, a senior perinatologist at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York, says she would counsel women to think long and hard before they decide to try hypnobirthing or any other method of drug-free delivery.
“If you really want to have a drug-free birth, you have to be committed to the program or technique because if you are not really committed, it’s a farce,” she tells WebMD. “Some people have a fairy-tale idea about the true nature of labor, but it is painful. It is one of the most painful crisises that the woman has to endure.”

Michelle answers:

I hope that insane was not hung on you by a “friend” if so they are not!
I have been a hypnotist specializing in pain control for over fifty years.
Yes! You can eliminate pain connected to childbirth along with bleeding, relax easier and more completely.. You are not going to do it by your self ,you will need trained support by your partner or a hypnotist ! And you are going to need to practice a lot.
I would strongly reccomend you learn and understand the glove anesthesia to the point you can do it by your self (in Case your partner does not make it through. I have heard of more than one roll there eyes and bite the floor The technique for this is a deep trance one so if the hypnotist starts telling you that light trance is more beneficial -thank you but no thank you.
The bleeding can be eliminated almost completely as can any cramping
start doing some looking for a classical hypnotist of deep trance hypnotist tell them you are looking for someone to teach you glove anesthesia. Their response should be positive or it is B.S. And you find another hypnotist.
See what you can do.

Mary asks…

I am a separated married woman in love with another man.?

I have been married for a little over 3.5 years. My husband and I have a two year old child together. My husband and I met about 5 weeks before we married(and I have to admit I think I rebounded on to him). Our relationship was a complete whirlwind in the very beginning, however it was not based on anything stronger than physical attraction in the beginning. I also have to include the fact part of the reason we married so quickly had to do with immigration paperwork, We eloped, but had a wedding six months later, and got pregnant only like a week and a half after that.

During my pregnancy I started to realize we had very little in common, but we still stayed together obviously…chalked it up to hormones etc. Then our little one came along and our lives became all about our little sunshine, and even less about each other. We rarely spent any alone time, and when we wanted to “go out” with friends we took turns staying home with our kiddo, mostly myself being the one who stayed home.

I was a stay at home mom, and over the last two years, I definitely lost a lot of my self esteem, as well as my feelings for my husband. I love him dearly as the father of our child, and as a friend, but I have NO passion for him. I haven’t been in love with him for over a year and a half. He is a wonderful person, and has done no wrong. I think this mostly stems from the fact we have absolutely in common aside from our son.

Here is the main issue, A few months back I began working nights at a restaurant as a cocktail server in the bar area of the restaurant. I started to feel better about myself having adult conversation again outside of home. My self esteem started to improve. I started making friends with some of my coworkers, and my husband began to be jealous of this, and resentful of me working which made me want to keep working even more. I began to look forward to more time away from him. One fateful day I was invited to an event by some coworkers in the beginning of August of this year, and ended up having a really long conversation with one of them. HOURS long. We hit it off immediately. We had/have so many things in common and there was unmistakable spark between us. That day was just friendly, but the day after that he and I agreed to grab a drink after work and talk some more…and ended up kissing. It has been all downhill from there, as we have gotten closer and closer, have gotten intimate, and have kept this up until now, which is about three months since it began. We have both developed extremely strong feelings.

My husband and I agreed to separate a few weeks ago and I have been living in my own apartment with my child and share custody with my husband. My husband wants for us to work on our marriage while we are separate, and wants to “go on dates”with each other, and I have agreed to this, but I feel like I am prolonging the inevitable. Since moving out I have felt so much better, and honestly I really don’t miss him.

MY question is, are my feelings for this other man just because of my own unhappiness in my marriage, or do you think there is a possibility of something special there some day? He makes me feel the way no one has made me feel in a really really long time. He is so vibrant and exciting, and fun, and he is very similar to me in personality without it being creepy. It feels so right and natural to be with him. Two nights ago, he told me he wants to stay friends but he can’t continue to be intimate because he hates being the other man and I don”t blame him. He really is a good person himself and feels miserable about being in the middle of my situation. Í feel like a divorce is in order, but I need to wait to file until I can get some things in order. I really feel like this person, is a person I could really see myself being close to in the future…maybe not right away due to the situation, but soon. I feel like I am losing my best friend because he is trying to take a step or two back. He says he will wait for me. Do you think that is true?

Michelle answers:

When are you going to stop having rebound relationships? Do you see this for what it is?

John asks…

Anyone familiar with HCG weight loss diet and breastfeeding/nursing. Read on for details……?

If HCG is natural in the body during pregnancy and women breastfeed while they are pregnant, can I continue to breastfeed while taking HCG? Is it the limited diet that is dangerous or the HCG? My baby is 7 months old and eats everything and drinks formula during the day, but at night she nurses for comfort I guess. So her diet does not depend on breastfeeding. Is it still ok to breastfeed then? You can email me if you’d like to for more details. Thanks!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy After 50

Sandra asks…

Transverse baby at 31 weeks?

OK so I know she still has time to turn, and I am really hoping she does. This is my first pregnancy and have read that it is rare for a baby to be transverse still (in first pregnancies) after 28 weeks, I could have wrong information though. Anyways I spoke to my doctor and she said that if by 36 weeks she has not moved to head down that they will do it manually, well I have read up on this and I don’t think I want to risk it as it could cause me to go into labour, its very painful and only works 50% of the time etc…I think I would rather just have a c-section if she doesn’t move by herself (I would rather a natural birth if at all possible, but not by them forcing her into position) Am I able to refuse this procedure, when my doctor mentioned it she didn’t make it sound like I had a choice.

Michelle answers:

You have an option that has not been mentioned. What you need to do is the breech tilt. It helps persuade the baby to turn himself. It is not risky if the baby does the turning. I had to do the breech tilt with my first one because she also was transverse. It worked and she turned head down. What you do is lie on your back with your pelvis higher than your head. Lie like this twice a day for 20 minutes at a time. It is said to work 75% of the time.

Linda asks…

Help! Please read!! Medical advice needed?

Hi

Apologies in advance for the rant!

OK so a really embarrassing thing happened to me today!! And I’m just wondering if anyone else has experienced this…

Lately, well within the last 6 months I’ve noticed a definite change in behavior in the week leading up to my period; I guess it’s just the changes in hormones that occur at this time. Funny thing is, I never used to get this before my period, a lot of women get mood swings etc (and everything else that’s common with the ‘curse’ each month) although I used to get a little tearful before and during my period I never experienced any other symptoms. I’m a little surprised in the sudden change because I started my periods when I was 11, I’m now 22 ..almost 23 (dear god save me from the ageing process!!) But all of a sudden (within the last 6 months) I’ve been having mood swings before my period, extra tearfulness (i mean, I dropped a pen at work and burst into tears?) also a male patient at workrse (i’m a Nurse) slapped my bum and I really yelled at him and consequently got a verbal warning. Usually prior to all of this I’d have handled these kinds of situations professionally… but lately I just seem to be so aggressive before my period! But this isn’t the worst part…I’ve also noticed I feel so horny just before and during my period too!! and I mean really horny or sexy (however you want to put it) I’ll give an example.. I went to see my GP today (just for a referral..I have a suspicious mole) and this GP is like 50 years old..not that attractive but suddenly I found myself noticing things about him that I hadn’t noticed before, like hies eyes, he has large hands, he’s oldish but he kind of has this boyish rebellion streak about him and I think he works out..and the next thing I’m imagining what he would look like without his shirt on..my hormones just completely took over! i felt like i wanted to jump on his lap!! And the most embarrassing is, I think he noticed I was starring at his crotch!!??

Look I know how this looks but I’m in a long term relationship, i love Chris very much and I am not sexually promiscuous, Chris is the only BF I’ve ever had and I’m very happy with him. And i would NEVER cheat on Chris, my point is, is it strange that my hormones are behaving like this all of a sudden? I was always taught MAJOR hormonal changes only occur during teenage years, before, during and after pregnancy?

I’m NOT pregnant by the way, by partner is in the Army and is away at present…also him being away is not the cause, it’s not a case of me, ‘not getting any’ (as my friend put it) that’s causing this!

I guess I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this, I kinda of approached the subject with my mother who is also a Dr and a GP, she though it was funny but didn’t really elaborate any further; other than to say it’s the bodies natural way of telling you it’s the right time to get pregnant, I am so embarrassed, what if that Dr noticed?? He gave me this strange look as I left and the worst thing is, I can’t remember a single thing he said during the entire consultation!! My attention was elsewhere!

Thanks for your comments and suggestions in advance

Rhianna

Michelle answers:

Sorry to hear you are having problems Rhianna, I am sure your BF being in Afghanistan is also a constant source of concern.

I am sure, as you suggest that all of your symptoms are related to your hormone fluctuations. Even you unusual burst of misdirected sexual feelings is something some women get around period time, with a number of women noting that they are at their most sexually receptive at this time every month.

Things are never constant and it is not uncommon for things to alter with the passage of time, including your hormone fluctuations. One of the big problems is that normal female hormone levels have a massive variation in levels, while still remaining in the normal range, and nobody really understands which change or combination of changes is actually responsible for the PMS effects.

There are as you know no very specific or controlled methods of manipulating these hormone variations and the standard rather course therapies all have a fairly high fail rate.

Vitamin B6 has stood the test of time, and has the advantage that it has very few side effects, provided doses are kept within limits. I am afraid the 10mg doses that are all that can be purchased OTC are too low. Doses of 50 to 100mgs/day are effective and can improve the situation in about 70% of women.

I often found Spironolactone, whose structure is very similar to female hormones will also sometimes help, it has the useful side effect of reducing fluid retention as well. 25-50mgs daily taken for a week before the period and then for another 3 days, though it is no longer fashionable, it again has few side effects.

After that you are really having to fall back on hormones to treat hormone problems. Norithisterone probably has fewer side effects than the OC, and certainly less vascular risks.

I hope something in there was new to you and might prove helpful.

Daniel asks…

Are there any support groups out there for mothers with children affect by MMR’s?

My daughter was healthy and talking very very early. Then she had her needles done at 2 yrs. Seems the health department lost the paperwork and told me if I didn’t get them redone I would lose any benefits. I was a single mum and yes I did work but only part time. With in 2 weeks of having the second dose of needles my daughter stopped talking, stopped eating and basically went backwards. I never had any problems with her before, she never cried/sulked never threw tantrums,, she was just very content with her life and very well looked after.
I read on one site that this is mostly happening to uneducated mothers, well im educated and one of 7 children who all had their needles without dramas so I was not worried getting the first batch of MMR’s done.
My daughter is now nearly 4 1/2 and just had her MMR’s done again as I was told that she wouldn’t be allowed to go to school next year, however I still do believe in vaccinations as we can never be to safe against a new disease 🙂
I am looking for groups with the same situation, I need other like minded children for my daughter to play with as when we take her to play grounds the kids just stare at her because she is obviously different. She is overly excited around other children now and terrified to go down slides or climb things, another problem I didn’t have before the needles.
She is very computer smart, as we try to keep her brain active at all times, mainly me with my fingers crossed that by some miracle everything will switch back to how it was.

To people that say the needles didn’t cause it, you have no idea, you aren’t going through it everyday like the rest of us. And where it use to be 1 in 150 children diagnosed, it is in fact 1 in 50 now…. big jump don’t you think.
How can so many mothers be wrong, when you say its not true you are making out that we didn’t know our children before. Well I went through a normal pregnancy, a natural healthy birth and everything was perfect until that one single day 🙁 Now I have nights where I cry myself to sleep from guilt because it was my choice to get those needles done, and I worry what kind of life she is going to have.
Actually, i WAS made to have them done the second time, I have the paperwork. I tried to fight the health department when they got involved but they were the ones that said they would take away any benifits. I tried to tell them that I had already go the needles and they said there was no record and the doc’s surgery must have lost them. I went to the doctors and told him and while he remembered giving them to her there was nothing he could do. He told me that everything would be fine and the needles would be ok for her again. I said that I thought it was a bit much in the body but again everyone was positive it would be ok. It is these second needles that caused trouble, they were roughly 2 weeks appart.
There is no autism in our families, no diseases or developmental problems at all.
Thankyou all for you answers, it is much appreciated though 🙂

Michelle answers:

There is no scientific proof that it does cause it. SO you can’t blame it on that.

Believe it or not, what you are discribing starts normally at the same time that you get the shots.

Stop blaiming yourself already, self guilt isn’t a good thing.

Edit:

seriously? Thats messed up. They can run a blood test now that can tell you wether or not the child had recived them.

I know the hospital lost my records and instead of getting everything redone they ran it to find out what i was missing and such.

Sandy asks…

How to lower triglycerides/up good cholesterol?

I had gestational diabetes with all 3 pregnancies. It went away after the first two, but after the last pregnancy it didn’t and currently I have type 2 diabetes. I am under a doctor’s care, go see her every 3 months, but I’m not on medication right now, she’s giving me a chance to get rid of it by loosing weight. My cholesterol was also a little high (202, triglycerides 400 and good cholesterol was low 30), so I needed to lower that as well.
Since August 09 I have lost 35 lbsI just had blood work done and after months of working out/eating healthy my bad cholesterol is at 96, but my triglycerides are still high (396) and my good cholesterol is low (29).
I work out at home do videos for 30-45 min./5-6 days a week and eat healthy (whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, low fat dairy, good fats, flax seeds, natural foods)( but the triglycerides are not going down and the good cholesterol is not going up??? I still have @ 50 lbs to loose, but why arent the triglycerides going down? good cholesterol going up???What do I need to do?

Michelle answers:

The following are 8 tips to lower your Triglycerides:

1. Lose weight: Getting into a more active lifestyle and consuming fewer calories will help a person to lose weight and get their triglyceride number down.

2. Eat healthy: Follow a diet that is low in saturated fats and contains little to no trans fats. Eat plenty of high fiber foods like oatmeal, whole grains and fruit. A person also wants to be sure to limit their sugar intake. Make sure that your meals include foods rich in Omega-3 like salmon, fish oils and flax seed.

3. Eat soy protein: Soy protein may help to lower triglycerides. Aim for about 25 mg of soy protein per day in your diet.

4. Eat fewer carbohydrates: Do not eliminate carbs completely since they are part of a healthy diet, but do limit your intake and when choosing bread and other grain products look for items that are 100% whole grain.

5. Drink green tea: You can also buy a green tea extract. Green tea has natural antioxidants that can help to prevent cancer, heart disease and other ailments, but it has also been shown to help lower triglycerides, LDL cholesterol as well as increasing HDL (good) cholesterol.

6. Decrease alcohol intake: It would be wise to eliminate alcoholic beverages altogether as alcohol is transformed to glucose in your system.

7. Eat your vegetables: Be sure to eat plenty of green leafy vegetables, which are also a source of Omega-3. Also, use vegetable proteins such as peas or dried beans to replace protein form red meat.

8. Exercise: Exercising regularly will help to increase the HDL cholesterol and rid your body of excess triglycerides.

Your Questions About Natural Remedies In Pregnancy

Daniel asks…

help please this is really painful!?

hi, i often suffer with very sore shoulders which spreads down my arm and to my wrist and hand affecting my grip, usually this lasts a day and then goes but when i am pregnant to gets worse and is alot more painful, i suffered from this when i was pregnant with my last baby and my GP said i should really be on anti-inflamatories as it was very inflamed and sore but i cant take them when pregnant so i would have to just not use the arm as much as possible and take paracetamol, it took nearly 2 weeks off work and not using the arm before it got better, this pain started again yesterday, the first time this pregnancy, it seems to be linked to getting cold or wet, anyway i went to the chemist who gave me co-codemol and i have been wearing a arm support and applying tiger balm which is a natural remedy made from veg extracts, the pain is a little better but it is still hurting, i have 2 other kids to look after so it is not always possible not to use my arm as i need to push the pram etc, i am going on holiday in 10 days and would really like the pain to have at least dulled before i go, is there anything you can advise that is safe to do/ take? im 20weeks pregnant, thanks.

Michelle answers:

Do you have arthritis in the neck and shoulders or a trapped nerve in the neck – what are they saying is causing the problem in the first place

In order for anyone to give advice, they/we would need to know the cause and that’s including your physician

If you aren’t getting satisfactory answers/solution to your problem I would get a second opinion

James asks…

how can i remove/fade scars from puppps?

I had puppps obviously during my pregnancy. I am going to be in a wedding and need to get rid of these scars on my arms and legs ASAP! HELP! I would rather use some kind of home remedy or something safe and natural because of my baby.

Michelle answers:

Just use anything with vitamin E, like vaseline, or cocoa butter etc. Use 1-3 times a day and they will fade in a few months 🙂

William asks…

I’m 2-4 weeks pregnant and having some digestion problems..?

This is my 1st pregnancy so please don’t be rude.
Sorry to be gross but I have been having diarrhea. I’m having more trouble keeping food in then down. It seems to look like baby poop some times. It doesn’t look like there is any water or have mucous in it. I barely make it to the toilet some times which is embarrassing. I’m lactose intolerant which doesn’t help. I have diarrhea even if I don’t have dairy products it happens once or twice after almost every meal, even in the morning before I eat any thing. At this point I would rather have my food be coming up or be constipated. I have been to the doctor but she thinks it might be caused by dairy products but I don’t think so.
Are there any natural or healthy remedies that can help firm me up a little?
Do you think prenatal vitamins will help with?
Once again sorry to be gross and thanks in advance.

Michelle answers:

Hey im sorry to hear you are going throught that. You need to eat more roughage. While most get constipated during pregnancy, the opposite is also possible – its your body reacting to the increased level of hormones in your system. Your body will react in its own way. Eat whole grain food, greens and things like that. You could also be eating something that your body has decided not to accept now that you are preggo…. I craved pickles at some point but when i’d eat them my tummy would be upset. You have to drink a lot of water to make up for all you’re loosing… I dont know if prenatals will help, it has different effects for differnt people but i was told that because of the iron in prenatals it is likely to cause constipation so it might help you… So you also want to try to eat more iron…. Hope you get better…

John asks…

I am looking for an herbal remedy to reverse tubal ligation.?

I had my tubes tied about 10 years ago. In the first three years I had two ectopic pregnancies resulting in miscarriages. My tubes were cut, burned and tied, but I am not sure what they used to tie them off or why eggs have made it to the lower fallopian tube. I also have problems with post tubal ligation syndrome. The real problem now is that I may be interested in having another child, but do not want to have surgery to reverse the procedure. I know there are ways that the body heals itself and I was wondering about natural methods to help it do just that.

Michelle answers:

There is something physically blocking your tubes, generally a clamp or a insert made of metal, that isn’t going to be helped by herbs.

Get your surgical notes and see what was done to block your tubes.

What are some natural ways to prevent/cure group B strep without antibiotics?

I’m trying to prevent if possible, not anywhere close to when they test for it yet. Antibiotics are not a possibility for me so I’m trying to do whatever I can to make that a non-issue by not testing positive in the first place.

Please don’t answer if your only answer is “there’s nothing you can do” or “you have to have the antibiotics.” The American Pregnancy Association website mentioned naturopathic/holistic remedies but failed to mention what they were…so I at least know they exist.

I’m allergic to almost all antibiotics (the only ones I CAN have are not effective against group B strep) and I’m doing a homebirth so I can’t have an IV anyway. And since I’m not about to do trial and error with antibiotics to see if I’ll have an anaphylactic reaction while I’m pregnant, they truly are not an option.
“tidgie,” I already freaking told you the hospital can’t do anything anyway because I’m allergic to everything the hospital does to treat it. I’m looking for NATURAL ways to PREVENT and if you don’t have an actual suggestion then I suggest you don’t answer my question.
Sorry, yeah, I do have a temper because I’ve asked this three times and gotten nothing but dumbass answers that don’t even attempt to answer the question that was asked. However I’ve gotten at least ONE decent one below, so thanks for that.

I’ll also add I have a midwife, not a doctor, and group B strep is not strep throat.

Michelle answers:

I’ve been curious about this as well, since my test is coming up. I found this:

Alternatives to Antibiotics
Many women are interested in alternatives to antibiotics that may help get rid of GBS prior to labor. Unfortunately, no scientific studies of alternative treatments have been published. Several researchers have suggested that studies are needed to determine whether alternative approaches to eradicating GBS in pregnant women would be effective. Alternate approaches that have been suggested include vaginal washing and immunotherapy.47 At this point, however, these alternatives remain to be studied, and I am aware of no healthcare providers that use either method.

Some practitioners of natural medicine have suggested supplements for the mother in an effort to eradicate GBS prior to delivery. One suggestion is that, when a woman tests positive for GBS, she should take a course of garlic, vitamin C, echinacea, and/or bee propolis, and then be re-tested to determine if she is still carrying GBS. Any supplements that a pregnant woman considers taking should first be discussed with a homeopathic or naturopathic physician or other knowledgeable practitioner of natural medicine.

Because colonization by GBS is intermittent or transient for 60 percent of carriers, testing positive for GBS once does not indicate that a woman will always be colonized.48 However, most studies indicate that a positive culture at 35 to 37 weeks gestation is a fairly accurate predictor of GBS colonization at delivery. Without an active effort to eradicate the GBS colonization, it is likely that a woman will still be colonized at delivery.

Ultimately, it is the pregnant woman herself who will have to decide what is right for her and her baby. Deciding to follow the recommendations of ACOG and the CDC is not necessarily the wrong choice, as long as a woman is adequately informed of the risks that come with antibiotic use. But none of us should blindly follow recommendations to interfere with the natural birth process without taking a good look at the risks, as well as the benefits, of doing so.

It’s a small piece of this article: http://www.hpakids.org/holistic-health/articles/172/1/Treating-Group-B-Strep

It’s all I could find. But like it says, maybe see if you can locate a homeopathic physician and ask them what they suggest.

Edited to add: It seems like you’re being very wise trying to find this out so far ahead of time since it seems like the natural remedies take longer to kick in. Good luck, I hope it works out for you!

Steven asks…

please help tips to conceive fast please?

I need to know all the secrets all you lady’s have tried when trying to conceive??? (obviously not checking ovulation days and basal body temp, thats a given)
I’ve heard of many different things to try..i.e laying with legs in the air after sex. Egg whites inserted inside the lady bits.
however I would like to know if anyone has any really good almost fullproof ways to become pregnant quicker. My husband and I have been trying for 2 yrs, we have both been tested and we are perfectly fine. I guess I/we are becoming a little impatient… we’re also wanting to conceive before he has to go away for 6 months which is coming up shortly.
It sounds petty but I’m just a little tired of hearing the doctor’s and reading that you must be patient and it will happen. What about all these teen pregnancy‘s?? they dont seem to take forever..
Tips natural remedies anything please willing to try anything now…
help please….

Michelle answers:

I hear ya sista! I mean the joke running around at a party a few yrs ago was that if you were “14, and in the back of a car” you’d get pregnant–screw all of us for being “responsible”!!!!

We’ve been ttc’ing for 3 yrs ourselves! Here are some of things we’ve heard of & a site that I really like is twoweekwait.com–consider joining–it’s free and tons of tips and tons of people trying each of the tips!

First of all, don’t insert egg into you–chances are you’ll end up with an infection! Ick.

Make sure it’s the week of the “o”–leading up to it and 2 days after it happens. Have sex a lot that day–don’t worry about legs in the air, but on a pillow, etc, just have sex a ton during that time!
Some docs say every 2 days, others say every day–they probably don’t know.

Don’t drink, or smoke. That seems to help. But don’t be stressed either…lol

There is the “instead cup” idea where the cup seals the little bastards in to stay near the egg–that’s a decent idea if it works.

There is the cough medicine idea that makes the womens fluid less thick and helps them swim through…

There is the pre-seed lube, what my DH and I are trying now–and it’s actually comfortable and seems more like “me”… Less like lube–this is apparently the way it works.

Hmmm, also heard of soy, and b’6…but try out the twoweekwait.com site and seriously you’ll hear of a ton more and meet women who are trying them! GL!

Sandy asks…

Is there anything I can do to stay asleep?

I am in the early stages of pregnancy, 8 weeks to be exact, and I am finding it impossible to stay asleep at night. I don’t nap at all during the day and I do not consume any alcohol or caffeine. It seems it takes me a while to fall asleep and then I wake every 2 hours or so and can’t fall back asleep. As a result I am exhausted at work during the day. I really need help because it has been almost two weeks now that I have not had a good night sleep. I feel like I am going to go crazy! I’d like to know if there’s anything “natural” I can do to remedy this. Sleeping pills are not an option.

Michelle answers:

I had this same problem early on in my pregnancy so I really feel for you. I was never able to find anything to help me, but it did pass around 10 weeks. I know thats still a couple weeks away for you but I hope maybe that helps!

Your Questions About Natural Remedies Pregnancy

George asks…

Does anyone have advice on some natural remedies for Itchy skin during pregnancy and Nausa during pregnancy?

5th baby and my skin is HORRIBLY ITCHY!!!!! and I have constant nausa … just looking for some good ol’ natural remedies to try…

Michelle answers:

PLEASE READ THIS IS IMPORTANT******

I answer any questions to do with a itch during pregnancy because it is important for ladies to know what risk there is to your baby.

Please visit and READ Information at

www.itchymoms.com
or
Search the web for Cholestasis of Pregnancy

Itching can be more dangerous than you think during pregnancy.
I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE………..

I don’t want to scare you with this information but it is very important as not all doctors a familiar with Obstetric Cholestasis.

Go straight to your DR and ask about Cholestasis of pregnancy.
It is serious you can have STILL BIRTH.
I got itchy in my first pregnancy no rash but a terrible itch and so sick at about 36 week Dr said nothing to worry about but i nearly lost my baby boy.
Then I had it with my next pregnancy at 12 week and was diagnosed with Cholesatsis.
And now I am in week 18 with this baby and I have it again IT STARTED AT 8 WEEKS THIS TIME.

Ask to have your BILE SALTS tested this is the only test that will diagnose OC, argue with your Dr if you have to, it is worth it.

An itch doesn’t seem much but it can be fatal to your baby if it goes undiagnosed.
The itching can be any where I had it on my legs and arms at first.

I don’t want to scare you but please realise this is very important

Mary asks…

Any of you girls use natural remedies to achieve pregnancy?

I’m on Vitex, EPO and Cinnamon for the last 2 1/2 months and I think Im having great results with them! Ive ovulated twice since I started taking them and my periods were so irregular before there was no way to figure out if I was ovulating or not.. so Im really hopeful!

Just wondering if any of you pregnant women used any natural remedies such as Vitex or Ovulex or ANYTHING like that to achieve your pregnancies?

Any success stories will help! I just want to know there is still hope 🙂
TTC #1 with PCOS for over 4 years.
8dpo today!

Michelle answers:

Well I didnt use any medications or anything but with #2 it took a long time until I tried something. I had an orgasm by myself while his semen was inside of me. It opens up your cervix and lets it in, then closes it back in. After trying this, I was instantly pregnant! BaBy DuSt!!~*~*

Steven asks…

Are there any natural remedies for hiatal hernia, developed after pregnancy?

there is a big bulge in my stomach, when leaning back, like huge, almost the size of a melon

Michelle answers:

Hiatal hernia is when the stomach bulges up through a hole in the diaphragm. It can cause heartburn like symptoms. If you have a bulge of intestines through the abdominal wall that isn’t a symptom of hiatal hernia. It is most likely an abdominal hernia. You need to be seen by a doctor because generally the recommended repair for abdominal hernia is surgery. It cannot be fixed through homeopathic remedies.

Nancy asks…

Is there any natural remedies to get rid of water gain during pregnancy, especially in your face?

Michelle answers:

Drink more water, take in less salt. And please don’t worry about how you look when you’re pregnant. Trust me, you’re beautiful. This is the one time in your life when you can have a tummy, and whatever else pregnancy does to your body and be proud of it. Being pregnant is really hard on the body, you have a little human growing inside of you, as you are already discovering. Just relax.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Products

Joseph asks…

Can you use ovulation strips to avoid pregnancy?

I am Catholic and according to Catholic doctrine, artificial contraceptives are wrong. Natural Family Planning is the only option, so women need to learn to figure out when they’re most fertile.

I was wondering, are products like ovulation strips, or the Ov-Watch useful to PREVENT pregnancy???

Thanks! 🙂
And for the record I’m NOT having sex. I’m just curious for future reference.
And please be respectful of my religious beliefs. I will only be having sex when I’m married and ready, so you don’t need to worry about me having an unwanted child.
Sorry, I have to keep adding details, lol. I know a lot of people use contraceptives but I personally think that they are wrong. And I know for a fact that if used properly, NFP is 95-97% effective. I just want to know if I can use strips to make it even MORE effective.

http://www.sexualityandu.ca/adults/contraception-2-16.aspx

Michelle answers:

It’s possible, but not recommended. The reason is this. When women prepare to ovulate they have what is called an LH surge. This is what the ovulation sticks measure, not actual ovulation. Once you get a positive stick it means you should ovulate within the next 24-48 hours. The problem is this. Women can have an LH surge but not ovulate. So she may have sex later in the month only to find that she ovulated late and is pregnant. I would suggest looking into Basal Body Temping. If you use the charting, you can tell when you’ve ovulated. You could also use the ovulation stick to help serve as a warning that ovulation is coming soon. It can help better determine your ‘safe’ days. Good luck and I hope that helped! 🙂

Michael asks…

Losing wieght during pregnancy?

I am just curious to see if anyone knows the pro’s and con’s to losing weight during pregnany. A few facts about me:

I went to a physical therapyst and recieved me stats. I am five foot three, I am 30% body fat, 32% body water. I am 205 pounds, and according to my BMI I should be around 118 pounds. Thats almost 100 pounds to lose. I disagree with that number, but maybe you can help. As it is clear that my fat amount is not as high as most would think for someone 205 pounds. I carry the weight pretty evenly throughout my body, my stomache is a little more than the rest but I am overall very proportionate. I have been trying to concieve and would like to continue to lose weight. I have lost a total or 35 pounds in just the past 5 months. Which is a healthy rate to lose it. I do not want to gain weight from the pregnancy, if in fact I am or become pregnant soon, and I would also like to continue to lose it. I do know that too much excersize and dieting can be very bad for pregnant women. But I have thought about this and was thinking that walking for about 45 mins a day and doing some arm weights (5-7 pounds) for a few reps a day, and some leg lifts could help me in toning my body and as a result slimming down. I do know that my stomache will only get bigger from pregnancy but if I would lose and gain at the same time i would likely reduce that fat, and just gain normal size from the babys growth, right? Does anyone know a good method or excersize routine that could help me achieve my goals? This is an important part of my life and would love some help. Another fact is that I do eat fairly healthy. I eat whole grain breads, fruits with only natural sugars, some veggies (mostly broccoli) and only eat grilled chicken, and 97% lean turkey meat. I do not eat steaks or burgers or anything that is not chicken or lean turkey meat (you honestly can not tell the difference between turkey products vs beef products) I eat foods with 8g or less of sugar and watch calories. Dont get me wrong I do have the occasional day that I cheat on my diet a little, but I maintain it for the most part. I would like to see results and lead a healthy pregnancy as well as a healthy life style. Any advice????

Michelle answers:

It’s perfectly okay to continue to lose weight, within REASON, in your early pregnancy. The most critical thing is to advise your OBGYN and go over your meal plan and exercise regimen. Your doctor will advise you from there as to whether you can continue as is or if some tweaking is needed. Just don’t keep losing weight on your own (when you get pregnant). With your doctor’s guidance, you can still continue to make progress.

Michelle answers:

Actually these days unless the package specifically says that if you are breastfeeding or expecting do not use then you can use just about any kind of lotions and body washes. I don’t think there has ever been a problem besides you may become more sensitive to it during pregnancy.

Mandy asks…

Can we ask world governments to legislate and/or ban pregnancy and childbirth for a few generations??

Two years ago (or thereabouts), the World Health Organization released a study which stated that, in order to sustain human life and consumption over the next twenty years, we would require THREE PLANET EARTHS!! Just today it was estimated that the United States alone has surpassed the 300 MILLION MARK in population!! It is conceivable, and highly likely that greed and hunger and global conflict will be a natural result of such a catastrophic scenario–we have been seeing the initial shortages for quite a while now, chiefly with petroleum and gasoline products! Shouldn’t we start acting NOW to prepare for those inevitable outcomes??! Why are we choosing to ignore the issue, instead of facing it head-on! I don’t know if banning childbirth is the answer, but isn’t it incumbent on us to AT LEAST DO SOMETHING??!!

Michelle answers:

You are right, of course, but legislation is not a possibility in today’s world, neither is forced semi sterilization of every human on earth.
The only way is education and changing of customs.
Population explosion stopped in 2 places on earth – Europe, where population is dropping through social customs, and Africa where Aids kills so many.
The European option is not relevant to 3rd world countries, and Aids is too painful.

Your Questions About The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Michael asks…

A couple of pregnancy questions from a first time pregnant 20year old :)?

Hey. I found out I was pregnant last friday but there are a couple of things I need help with that some of you may be able to give a helping hand with…

Well one is how far along could I be? I stopped the pill at the end of November and came off on the 17th of December, think I was due on on the 14th this month. Thing is could I be further along then I think because aren’t you meant to have a “True Period” before concieving, which I didn’t. Just want a rough Idea of how far along I could be, and the least I could be.

Next is, is it dangerous to have sex within the first few months of pregnancy? I always worry after having intercourse with my fiancé thinking it may damage it.

Please help as I’m a natural worry and even though I’m going to the doctors in a few days, I want my mind at ease a little.

Thank You 🙂
Also the first day of my last period was around the first of december.

Michelle answers:

For the first question, I need to know the FIRST day of your LAST MENSTRUATION…I need to calculate your age of gestation (how far along you are)…
Your AOG is around 7 weeks
your Estimated Date of Confinement (when you are due) is
September 8, 2008…

For the second question…SEX is totally okay during the first and second trimester…only during the last three months should you slow down ’cause you might get stimulated and go to labor early…or damage the fetus with your movements…and have sex in a position that provides safety for the baby..like woman on top, spooning, etc…

Joseph asks…

Are you afriad of pregnancy?

I am 30 years old. Married for 2 years. No kids. I want children but I am afriad of pregancy and labor. Many friends a family members are shocked by this. If I have to hear “its natural” “its the most wonderful thing” “you’ll forget the pain” one more time I think I will scream. I realize that millions of women have babies every day but I never have so I am nervous. There has to be other women out there like me that are afraid of the unknowns of pregnancy that holds them back from having children. I can’t be the only one with this mind set!

Michelle answers:

Im not a female but I can totally understand what you mean. I mean, we all go through physical pain, but certian pains dont linger around for too long, and with most women, delivering your pride and joy, the pain wont linger around for too long…which is why alot of women say “You’ll forget the pain, especially once you see your baby.” It’s ok to be nervous, but if you really want to have children, I would suggest you go for it. I would say soon because of one important factor….your kids growing up with active parents…i’d hate to be 55 when my children are 20. Think about it, talk about it with your husband &/or friends and best wishes.

Charles asks…

could i be pregnant and still have negative pregnancy tests?

me and my husband decided we wanted to try for another baby this month. my last period was in january 13 2008. We started after that.

i always got my period on time but this month i havent its already feb 21 so i am about 8 days late. i have taken pregnancy tests at home but they come out negative.

i was wondering if me having my gallblader out a year ago could be a cause of it making the tests negative? i have also had 2 miscarrieges in my life and one natural birth. i am only 24 years old.

Michelle answers:

Well your gallbladder has nothing to do with it. I had my gallbladder taken out almost 2 yrs. Ago and i’m pregnant right now. And yes you can have a neg. Test and still be pregnant. That happened to me with this pregnancy. I was a week and a half late and took a test and it came out neg. Then i waited another week (since i still didn’t have a period) and sure enough it came out posittive. And i had no pregnancy symptoms. So it’s very posssible. I used a different test the 2nd time. I used first response which can detect the lowest hcg so try that one and good luck.

Robert asks…

Natural Birth fears?!?! HELP?

ello guys, i was wondering if their are any mothers out there, mothers-to-be like myself, or any physicians that could comfort me about natural birth? i’m 6 months and a week and a half pregnant. i’m 27 years old and i’m going to be have a wonderful little boy. THIS IS MY FIRST PREGNANCY. my husband and i explored the possibility of a natural birth about 3 months into my pregnancy and had decided our birth plan on the natural birth. i am absolutely ecstatic about my son’s arrival! but i have this extreme guttural fear as the time for him to come gets closer. i’ve already had the dreams of everything going wrong during the delivery. is there anyone that can give me some comfort on natural births?? or anything on my fears?? PLEASE

Michelle answers:

Don’t be scared! You can do it. Have you looked in to having a doula assist you during labor and delivery. Statistics have shown they are capable of amazing things including: shortening first time labor by an average of 2 hours, deacreasing the need for drugs, decreasing the need for c-section by 50%, increasing father participation and success in breastfeeding. Many doulas offer their services for very reasonable charges based on what you can afford and many even do it for free. The emotional support of another woman who is knowledgable in child birth can be very helpful (and they can stand up for you, as they will be in a clear state of mind, if a medical professional is trying to talk you into something you’re uncomfortable with or stand up to you and help support you if you start losing faith in yourself and/or start asking for drugs…)
I read the book Mothering the Mother: How a DoulaCan Help You Have a Shorter, Easier, and Healthier Birth and would certainly reccommend it. Even if you decide you don’t want a doula or don’t have one available to you I think you will be more confident in yourself after reading it. You can have a successful vaginal birth, women have been doing it for centuries; its what we were made to do! Have faith in yourself.
Good luck and congrats!

Your Questions About Natural Ivf Cost

Sandra asks…

Job Relocation Vs Spouses objection to move?

I currently live with my spouse in Miami…Medium lifestyle, very little chances of ever affording a real home (Home prices are now $400k to $800k) and we are both approaching age 40 and want kinds very bad….However, I just found out that I am medically disadvantaged (extremely low sperm count) and that the likelyhood of natural conception almost impossible. Which means my wife and I will need to look towards alternatives which is IVF or adoption……which both cost alot of money we do not have…………..My wife’s is spanish and her family is here in Miami…I am originally from Indiana…. and I can double our family income to $150,000, provide financial security by taking new job in my hometown in indianapolis…We own our condo in Miami, and I own my original home back in Indianapolis. My wife doesn’t want to think about the possibility to relocate away from her family…..By staying in Miami, I argue we have very little opportunity to make ends meet. What would you do?

Michelle answers:

If you both want a child and to own a nicer home, moving to take a better job is the best solution.

I understand she does not want to leave her family, but it may be necessary to leave if she ever wants to have and provide for a family of her own.

Since you would be in a much better financial situation and since that income goes a lot farther in Indiana than Florida, she would be able to visit her family. She can also keep close to them via internet, webcam, phone and mail.

I see no logical reason to stay in Florida. The economy is much better in Indiana.

You should take the job and she needs to decide to honor her marriage vows and come with you or stay there. You both don’t have much time left to have children and if thats what you want to do you need to make choices leading you in that direction. With or without her.

David asks…

Have you done a reproductive Immunology test?

I just had a early miscarriage from my second IVF. According to my doctor, I might have natural killer cells. She suggested me to get some lab tests. But, she didn’t give me enough information where to get the test and how much it will cost. She just told me that it will cost a lot of money because the insurance will not cover these kind of test. So, Anyone who has done antibody test, can you tell me about your experience? Where did you do your test, and how much did it cos? Did it really help you to have a baby?

Michelle answers:

I had some tests done. I’ve had one successful pregnancy, one miscarriage, one ectopic, and am pregnant again (5 weeks). A co-worker told me she has anticardiolipin antibodies, which causes the body to reject the fetus. So I asked my doc for this test, and they said they’d run a few more, something about lupus antibodies or something. It was I think 4 tests in all, all blood tests.

I don’t remember how much it cost, but it wasn’t outrageous, or else I would have remembered it. I had mine done at a lab down the hall from my reporductive endocrinologist (which was at University of Iowa hospitals and clinics).

My results were all normal, but it really relieved my mind that I wasn’t having a problem due to that. My co-worker, once they figured out she had the anticardiolipin antibodies, had to take heparin injections when she was pregnant.

So, call your doc and ask them to call into a lab at a hospital near you to order the tests you need, including that anticardiolipin antibodies and the lupus whatever tests. If you find out you have them, I believe there’s medicines you can take to combat it.

Good luck!

Joseph asks…

I want to have quadruplets…?

I am 16 and I want to have quadruplets. How do I go about this. I know that alot of multiples are through IVF so would I need to do that?? If so how much would it cost and would they allow me to do so at my age. If not are there any natural ways to get pregnant with quadruplets. Also how do you get your eggs to spilt (identical twins) thank you..no rude comments best answer goes to the person who helped the most 🙂

Michelle answers:

Ok – to answer your question:

1. NO – no reputable doctor would recommend / prescribe / perform fertility treatments for a child of 16 nor would they do it solely to help you to have quadruplets. Most doctors try to minimize the chance of high multiples. IVF and fertility treatments is for women who cannot conceive naturally – the goal is to have 1 healthy child.

2. There is nothing that you can do to make your eggs split – they either do or they don’t – nature at work. Fertility treatments create multiples by either over stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs and/or transferring multiple embryos back through IVF. So it would be fraternals not identicals.

3. There are no natural ways to make your body have high-order multiples. If it is meant to be then it will happen . . . But it is doubtful.

4. Cost of IVF – $10,000 – 20,000 on average and there are no guarantee for success no matter how many embryos you cram back into your uterus – you could have them put 10 in there and there is a chance you won’t have a baby – most reputable doctors cap it at 2 if you are under 35 (and over the age of consent) unless there is a reason to transfer more and wanting to have quads is not a reason.

Seriously – go to school, work hard, have a baby when you are an adult and be thankful for whatever you are blessed with. I am a mom to twins and it is NOT easy.

Mandy asks…

After my third unsuccessful round of Clomid…..?

I am thinking of asking to be switched to gonal F.

I have unexplained infertility (open tubes, regular ovulation, husband has good sperm count) and this will be month 20 of TTC. I had a chemical pregnancy 8 months ago on a natural cycle. I may possibly have low progesterone after ovulation, since my luteal phase varies a bit and I get some spotting before AF. My RE thinks I could have mild PCOS but I do not present with the typical symptoms and do not have polycystic ovaries. Either way, I always ovulate.
I responded well to Clomid, getting 3-6 mature follicles per month, though I noticed that my period was much much lighter, despite the fact that they said my lining was not too thin.

I am honestly thinking of asking to be switched to gonal F, since my insurance will cover most of the cost. I am wondering if anyone out there who responded to clomid but did not get pregnant, responded well to gonal F?
Also, did you ask to have any additional testing for unexplained infertility before moving on to injectibles or IVF?
Hi, HoneyB1, thank you for the very detailed response. Yes, I have been taking the trigger shot. I took it the first month and this month- I can definitely see that it had an effect on progesterone after ovulation because there was a much higher temperature spike on the months with the trigger shot. When I didn’t take the trigger shot, the temperature rise was very gradual.
Have you had the E-tegrity test (can be combined with hysteroscopy)? They do an endometrial biopsy around 7-11 dpo (implantation time) to see if you have the binding protein vital for implantation (called Beta 3 Integrin). Many women who have endometriosis (for which I have not been checked because I am scared of the laparoscopy) tend to be missing this protein. Worth checking out, if you haven’t, especially if you plan on moving on to IVF.
I was wondering about lazy tubes too- or Luetinised Unruptured Follicles (LUF) where the egg remains trapped in the follicle, despite the follicle turning into a corpus luteum.

Michelle answers:

Well we are in the same boat. We have now been ttc for 31 months with unexplained infertility. I luteal phase varies some also but that is all. We have tried 3 cycles of Clomid and 3 cycles of injections (Gonal F plus trigger shot) so we are at a loss. My RE said IVF is his next suggestion to us. We can try 3 more cycles of the Gonal F if we want though.

He said there are a couple of issues that can’t be determined by testing that could be going on. The first being that my tubes may not be picking up the egg. My tubes were open but he said there is not test that determines if the tubes are doing their job and picking up the egg once it is released. He said also my eggs may not let the sperm penetrate them easily. He said it would be like having a hard shell around them. I call it natural birth control…LOL! Or he said it is just simply not happening. He said according to our test results we should be able to conceive on our own but going on 3 years and only 1 chemical pregnancy (after coming off of Clomid-very common to happen) it may be time for other help.

We gave up on the Clomid because I wasn’t having a great response on it. It was really messing up my cycles (1st cycle didn’t ovulate, 2nd cycle I was 10 days late). I did have a better response on the Gonal F.

If you are getting 3-6 mature follicles on the Clomid I don’t think you need the Gonal F. They usually want around 3-4 follicles per treatment cycle (unless it is IVF). If you expect low progesterone ask for supplements and make sure your level is checked after ovulation. Also have you tried a trigger shot with the Clomid cycles? If not the trigger shot is taken once when the follicles reach maturity (18mm or larger). Then you are more able to pinpoint ovulation and the trigger shot just gives the eggs an added boost to finish maturing and release. It can also help the progesterone level in the beginning.

I am not sure there is any additional testing for unexplained infertility. They usually just check you tubes, uterus, bloodwork and hubby’s sperm. I know for couples experiencing miscarriages they will also check for chromosome issues.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy

Robert asks…

What are the pro’s and cons of natural pregnancy?

I am unsure wether to have a natural Birth or a Epidural ( is that the word) LoL Later on in life.

What are the pro’s and cons and what hurts more?
what is safer for the baby?
xx

Michelle answers:

A natural birth will hurt the most.
Contractions are like really bad period cramps times a thousand, and at the same time the belly tightens up. Then when the baby starts coming out it will stretch you down there and you will feel it. It will probably tear or need an episiotomy (where they cut the skin so you don’t tear) and that will need stitches after wards.
Some women give birth without tearing and needing stitches, but some do.
It is safe for you and your baby to have a natural birth – that is how it has been done since Eve had her first child.
Having an epidural is a great option because you will not feel the pain at all.
It is an IV that is put in your back and it numbs you from the waist down and it does not wear off. Before putting the IV in, they give you a shot to numb it so it doesn’t hurt, and the shot is a small stinging/pinching, but after having all those contractions it does not even feel like anything.
You will be numb for the duration of the labor, and about an hour or so after birth. The doctor will stitch you up – if needed – while the epidural is still in, and you will not feel a thing.
Having an epidural does not mean that you and your baby will be sleepy and drugged up. I was fully alert when I gave birth to my daughter and so was she.
There are risks to having an epidural, and when the time comes your doctor can explain them to you, but they are rare. If you get someone who knows what they are doing then you will have no problems. And the risks can only affect you – it is completely safe for the baby if you have an epidural.
Also, some people may say that an epidural slows labor and increases pushing time, but that is not always true.
I had my daughter 5 hours after I got my epidural and I only pushed 7 times.
There are also other pain relief options during labor. You might want to look into them when the time comes to have a baby.
The best thing to do is to decide what is best for you.
I had an epidural and it made my labor and delivery a very pleasant experience. If I had not had the epidural it probably would have been the most excruciatingly painful experience I have ever gone through.
Contractions are real pain, and if you can not handle it then get the epidural. You do not get extra mommy points for going through the pain.

Nancy asks…

how does the natural pregnancy control method work?

My girlfriend and i want to do it but she allergic to any type of condoms and she doesn’t want to take pills or use the patch because it has latex too

Michelle answers:

You could use the pull out method but its not every effitive if you dont want her getting pregnat dont have sex. You dont have a good form of birth control. You could use spermasides (sp?) or i think they got the sponge for women or she would get and iud and iud is a device they would put in your gf urterus and its good for 5-10 years and it does not have laytex and its just as good as birth control or better. That would be the best thing for you to do if you dont want her pregnant good luck

🙂

Mary asks…

What are natural ways to prevent pregnancy?

I know abstinence is the number one way, but what are other natural ways? Is washing the vagina good? I also heard that drinking vinegar is another good way to prevent pregnancy for females?

Michelle answers:

How about using a condom!!!!! If you don’t, your stupid – simple as that.

Richard asks…

Can we have a healthy baby if I am HIV – and my partner is HIV + with a natural pregnancy?

I am looking for a professional answer. The risks if you may not know are low. I know alot on the subject so I would prefer an answer from an md.

Michelle answers:

I wouldn’t want to take the risk. Why are you with a partner who is HIV+. I think it’s such a scary risk for you and and any unborn children.

Your Questions About Natural Remedies In Pregnancy

Nancy asks…

I’m, still irregular from a Depo shot 8 months ago… should I try Vitex agnus-castus?

I’m on cycle day 36 with a negative pregnancy test. I don’t feel like I’m gonna start soon either. I had the shot Feb 28th, I was due May 30th for another shot but didn’t get it. I had a period July 9th that was normal, missed one in August, had a period from hell Sept 5th, then another September 19th that was normal…. and now I’m waiting… I’m frustrated because I want to get regular so I can get pregnant. Anybody have any natural herbal remedies that worked for them? I’ve read about Vitex but am nervous to try it.

Michelle answers:

I’ve read it can take up to 18 months for fertility to return after coming off Depo. However, it’s not the case for everyone. I’ve heard of many women using Vitex to regulate their irregular cycles. Here’s a link with some more info on Vitex, and other herbs, and some other helpful hints. Good luck to you, and lots of baby dust coming your way 🙂

Charles asks…

anyone else get sick of conflicting answers about meds when pregnant?

im nearly 33 weeks pregnant and have a really bad dose of the flu. I saw my midwife yesterday who told me panadiene was safe when pregnant, so i could take that to keeo the fever down, and she also gave me a brand of cough mixture to ask for at the pharmacy that i could also use.
I went to the pharmacy and was advised by the pharmacist that i cannot have that particular medicine and he recommended a natural remedy instead, wich is fine, would rather be safe than sorry and at that point would take just about anything to feel better.
when i got home and read the label it said to seek medical advice before taking when pregnant. Wtf???
Anyhow, my flu got worse and I went to the docs this morning, i had a doc i dont know and never seen before, and to put it politely she wasnt the most helpful. She tested for swine flu, negative, and when i told her about how wheezy i get when lying down she said touse vicks – which i told her didnt work, and asked for an inhaler. she nearly didnt give it to me!! And she told me i cannot take panadene or any cough mixture herbal or not.
So im stuck with forever doing steam inhalations, drinking lemon and honey drinks and sucking on lemon honey natural lozenges and drinking heaps tp keep the fever at bay.

Anyone else getting fed up with comflicting advice?
oh i cant wait til this bubs is out! I have never had so many illnesses in one winter compared to how many i have had during pregnancy! and to top it off, its actually summer (officially first day today) here! I thought we were over the flu season =(

Michelle answers:

Omg i know what you’re talking about!!
I’m sick right now and it was killing me yesterday. On Y!A i’ve heard that you can take benadryl and so i took just one pill and then i went to my doctors appointment today and she told me not to take any. But i took tylenol yesterday which worked WONDERS to keep my fever down. My midwife today gave me a list of things that i’m able to take while pregnant. I was like THANK GOD she gave me this!!! I was starting to get irritated with how i could only take tylenol!!
Oh, and i found out that when the label on medications say to seek medical help before taking them, it’s just to make sure you’re not like high risk pregnancy or anything like that. Even tylenol says to seek medical help before taking it. They put it on there so that they aren’t reliable if anything happens.

Here’s what’s on my paper she gave me.

*Minor aches and pains: ANY Tylenol
*Nasal congestion: Sudafed, Cold Tylenol, Ornex, and Actifed
*Cough: ANY Robitussin
*Sore throat: Cepastat lozenges, spray or equivalent
*Diarrhea: Imodium or Kaopectate

DO NOT TAKE: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Nuprin, or Advil

Go to the ER if you have any of the following symptoms:
1. Persistent cough, congestion, and/or diarrhea
2. Fever greater than 100.4 (F)
3. Green or blood tinged phlegm
4. Abdominal or chest pain
5. Shortness of breath
6. Severe headache
7. Visual changes

Joseph asks…

Where in the world is my period? Comment please?

I last got my period February 16 and seeing how it is now March 24th I am obviously late on my period. I took a home pregnancy test and it came up negative (although I’m worried this is because I took it in the evening, so I will take another soon but in the morning so it is more accurate). Me and my boyfriend did have sex without a condom but he also didn’t ejaculate… more like just fooling around a COUPLE times during the month. Yes I know about pre already, and all the other times we did use a condom (none broke by the way).

Assuming I am not pregnant from the pre and that the pregnancy test was right, than where is my period? I’ve never been this LATE my whole life. I haven’t been having cramps or anything else (if I did then I would feel more comforted as I know it’s on it’s way).

I have tried the natural remedy (drinking parsly tea, among other things) Any advice on what I should do to make it come, or just on my situation in general would be much appreciated.
I am 20 years old and normally quite responsible so no need to be harsh and scold me about the pre! Believe me after being so scared this month we will not even think about messing around like that again.

I’m just looking for some tips to bring on my period, and advice on this situation. A best answer will be chosen. Thanks!
I have not been exercising losing weight at all, nor is my body fat super low. I’m healthy girl who isn’t too skinny or overweight… I guess it is just stress but honestly i’ve been way more stressed in my life over other things and my periods were normal…

so that’s why it is so weird this time..

Michelle answers:

Your period can be delayed for a few reasons. Your period can be late because of stress (and you seem pretty stressed out…don’t worry, I’ve been there). If you’ve been sick lately, or any number of little things can make your period late. Take another pregnancy test (in the morning). If it comes up negative, stop stressing, and maybe it will come. If it comes up positive, or doesn’t come for another week, go to the doctor and get a blood pregnancy test done.

Best of luck.

Ken asks…

HIGH RISK! Two babies and a miscarriage, scared of a repeat!?

I have two beautiful daughters one almost five, one almost two. I had a miscarriage in April and fear this will be a recurrence! I am currently pregnant again but have had my period the whole time lightly during the beginning of all my pregnancies! I’m worried sick and the soonest I could get an appointment is two weeks!! I’m really not sure if anyone knows any natural remedies or herbals safe to take to calm this stress lever and help with lower back pains . . Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!!!

Michelle answers:

I am sorry to hear of your loss. This is a very stressful time for you. Unfortunately, stress can lead to miscarriage as well. If you are looking for some ok things to help with stress, try the following:

Rescue Remedy: Herbal homeopathic stress relief in a bottle. A few drops on the toungue work WONDERS!! T-R-U-S-T M-E!! And doctor approved.
Vitaman B complex. (make sure its a complex). This includes the necessary vitamins for your pregnancy AND is water soluable so you cant hurt you or the baby from taking too much. B is a known stress reliever as well as a happy inducer.
Vitamin C: Huge impact on stress and free radicals that could cause your sac to rupture early thereby causing miscarriage. There was a study done on the impact of extra C while pregnant and the miscarriage rate due to premature rupture of membranes decreased significantly. Also, its water soluable-so it wont harm you or the baby.

As for your miscarriage, if your body let it go early, then its likely there was something developmentally/physically wrong with it. It happens. The other possibility, if it was more like the 12th or 13th week, then talk to your doctor about the possiblity you may have incompetent cervix where the cervix is weakened and cannot support the pregnany. A stitch (called a cerclage) could be put in and you would be protected. I carried my first to term but with this one was thrown on bed rest and a cerclage put in at 19 weeks to protect me from miscarriage as I was already starting to shorten. Still on bed rest becuse we weren’t proactive enough. So if that is the case, talk to your doctor about the possibilty of preventative options. (many incompetent cervix miscarriages are not diagnosed until AFTER the miscarriage-so ask your doctor). Be proactive.
I wish you the best of luck. Please feel free to email after your appointment if you have more questions about incompetent cervix.

Good luck!
