Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Products

Thomas asks…

POC after Natural Miscarriage?

We got pregnant straight on our first month of ttc, started to spot on 5-6 week and finally was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage around 10th week of my pregnancy. I opted to take nature it course and finally miscarried on 31 jan 2011.I had to go to A&E coz of massive bleeding. They did u/s next day to say that womb is empty. But i am still showing + on HPT almost 10 days after miscarriage and very very nausea ed all the time long. no high temperature though. GP says I have no infection and sent me back with pack of antibiotics. I m still wondering if i do retain products of conception yet? If yes, what are the symptoms should I look for ?Since it is very hard to get line up again for u/s and see a doctor what should i do to confirm things?

Michelle answers:

It can take some time after a miscarriage for the hormones in your body to go back to zero.
The average time is about 19 days, if your testng with a higher sensitivity test it could pick it up for even longer.

However, if it has been more than a couple of weeks since your miscarriage, you should call your doctor if you are still getting a positive pregnancy test. In this situation, your doctor may want to monitor your hCG level with blood tests. If the level does not return to zero within a reasonable time frame, there is a chance that there might still be pregnancy tissue in your uterus and you may need a D & C. If you have been sexually active, it is also possible that you might be pregnant again, but your doctor should be able to tell you for sure one way or the other.

Daniel asks…

Ladies while you were pregnant did u stop using any certain products or did u stop any certain beauty rituals?

I mean like any type of makeup or perfumes?? I was taking a shower and just thinking hmm wonder if any other pregnant women out there use facewash or body wash or if they change to something more earth friendly or more natural?? Or like hairspary or mousse smells bother you? Or did any of your makeup look bad on you that looked good before you got pregnant.. I have heard of the pregnancy GLOw lol that is suppose to take care of that wearing so much makeup.. Anyway just wondering

Michelle answers:

I LOVE my body wash. I love the smell and the bubbles and the fact that in my dry climate I don’t need to use lotion because of it.

William asks…

Is this ok to use during pregnancy. its organic, read more..?

http://www.danielfield.com/template/catalog/product_info.php/daniel-field-natural-colours-brown-oak-p-86

Michelle answers:

It says organic, but look at the ingredient list…it still has a whole list of chemicals in it. In general, you can dye your hair during pregnancy, as long as you are careful. Do it in a well ventilated room so you are not breathing in all the fumes, and don’t do it too often. And probably the longer you have it on your head, the worse, so don’t leave it on longer than it says.
This is just what I’ve read, not from my own experience. I’ve never dyed my hair while I was pregnant.

Joseph asks…

Need to get rid of this pregnancy acne! :(?

I’m going to the store tonight to buy some products to see if I can try and clear up some of this mess on my face! I’m 18 weeks pregnant. To be honest, even though I know its bad, before I got pregnant, I rarely even washed my face with a facewash. I have never been prone to breakouts. Now, its so bad I can’t take it anymore. And with the acne, came more makeup than I’ve ever used before trying to control the nasty look of the zits and redness. So I think I’m clogging my face even more. I have started a routine. I wash my face with Aveeno naturals every morning and night and like to use a light moisturizer morning and night as well. I just found out my moisturizer has salycilic acid in it so I’ve quit using it. Does anyone have a good routine with products that aren’t going to break me?

Michelle answers:

Heres a website I got it off another website wheres theres all pregnant woman
I’m going to order it.. It might be a little pricyy but theres different cremes
you can see which one you need.. It says #1 ob/gyn recommended

Your Questions About Natural Ivf Success

John asks…

Anyone try for longer than a YEAR and then get pregnant naturally?

Fertility drugs, IUI, IVF, etc. are not “natural“. I’m asking if any one of you tried for longer than 12 months without success and still got pregnant the “old fashioned way”.

I’m only asking b/c the fertility testing alone is thousands of dollars. Treatments & drugs are even more money. My health insurance won’t cover any of it. Just looking for hope, I guess.
My husband had a semen analysis done already. We eat organically & have for several months since someone suggested that may be part of the problem. Why wait 3 more years???

Michelle answers:

There is hope.

80% of couples conceive in six months of unprotected sex. After six months you are considered sub fertile. Half of the couples classified as sub fertile will conceive in the next 6 months, meaning 90% of couples conceive in year.

12 cycles without conception is considered infertile. Half of these couples will conceive naturally in the next 24 months. So 95% of the population will conceive naturally in a 36 month period (3 years of trying).

After 3 years of trying, your chances of conceiving naturally are statistically improbable.

But like I said, there is hope. 50% of couples in your situation will conceive naturally. However, it may take up to two more years, and after 27 you are getting less fertile every year not more.

Fertility treatments are somewhat expensive. However, fertility testing is relatively cheap. Semen analysis and blood tests are the primary tests ran and they are only a couple hundred. The HSG is a 1-2 thousand, but might not be necessary if another logical cause is found.

If you keep in mind relative costs, some fertility treatments (such as IUI) are more affordable than you might think too. An IUI is only about $1200.00 the cost of cheap diapers for 1 year is $1500.00, just for diapers! I am sure you are planning to find a way to afford diapers. So start a savings account and shift somethings around and you can probably afford more ferility help than you think. Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can’t afford it just because things are tight.

Jenny asks…

Implantation bleeding and testing . .?

Hey Ladies,
Hope you are all well?
I know implantation bleeding is pretty rare, but i know it happens too….and was wondering, those of you who experienced it, can tyou share info with me pls?
Reason I am asking is i have TTC for well over 2 and a half years now, and had 2 IUI’d and endless rounds of CLomid too, I had a twin pregnancy which was a result of 2nd IUI which eneded in Miscarriage of 1st baby and 2nd being ectopic and causing me to loose my right tube as well. I habe had Endometriosis too which has been removed and left minor scarring . . i have been told, that whilst ‘you never know’ based on info, history etc to not expect a natural prgnancy, and my bext IUI only carries a 7% success and to anticipate the need for IVF – harsh words but we asked them to be blunt with as which has been best thing we done.
We have taken a few mths off, and I have even applied for new job and have a second interview tomorrow and we were putting trying on hold for 2 or 3yrs and were excited about my new job prospect/possiblility . . and then yesterday, approx 9-10dpo (not 100%), after sex, i went to ‘clean my-self up’ and in with the semen (sorry of tmi), it was very light red/pink…..I never bleed after sex unless its tail end of cycle….?
I know it looked like more due to sperm being there to obviously, but I have had nothing since, so rest of last night, during the night or this morning….if i spot before period, its brown the day, max maybe 2 before it comes, not 4 or 5…
Sorry to waffle…how long after implantation spotting (if it were that) did you get BFP…I know i can test from 10dpo but would rather give a little longer, just wanted some info.
Thanks for listening to me ramble!
Kerry xxxx
(pls escuse typos – im at work trying to be quick!!)

Michelle answers:

Hi Kerry,

Glad to hear you are ok and fingers crossed you get the job! I have never had implantation bleeding and I really don’t know that much about it (i’m not much help lol!), it could have been just a wee bit of blood from having sex which can happen. That being said even though they have told you it may not happen naturally I am going to hope and pray that you get your BFP!

Take care hun I hope everything goes well.

Xxx

hope someone can help thanks xx

Michelle answers:

One thing many women with PCOS don’t know is that there is a link between PCOS and insulin resistance. Of course, not all women with PCOS are insulin resitant but it’s something to look at as well. Basically sometimes the cells of a women suffering PCOS can be resistant to taking in the insulin produced by the pancreas, so the pancreas responds by producing even more insulin. All that extra insulin just in your bloodstream is not good and causes problems throughout the body, including PCOS.

Along with exercise and weight loss, it is advised for PCOS women to try a low carb/low glycemic diet that has a good amount of protein and (unsaturated) fat to keep insulin levels balanced, keep a healthy weight (or lose weight if necessary) and to help you feel full. The diet calls for reduction/elemination of simple/refined/processed carbs (junk food, white bread, etc) because those are the foods that turn into sugar and trigger insulin secretion, and replacing those foods with more complex carbs (vegetables, whole wheat bread, etc). Here are some links about it:

http://www.womens-health.co.uk/pcos6.asp
http://www.obgyn.net/pcos/pcos.asp?page=/pcos/articles/pcos_and_diet_mckittrick
http://www.soulcysters.com/weight_loss.html

I’m trying this diet myself to see if it’ll help me get pregnant. Make sure to also do your research before making any dietary changes. Good luck and baby dust :]

George asks…

Improving a low sperm count?

Any tips?

My husband has a sperm count of 9 million per ml and we’ve been told we need IVF/ICSI but as we already have one child we aren’t eligible for NHS treatment and can’t afford to pay privately.

We desperately want another child but I don’t think we have much chance of success with such a low count (even though we did manage a natural pregnancy with our son) because I’m nearly 37.

Any tips on how we could improve our chances? I’ve already got hubby on vitamins – he doesn’t drink, use drugs or smoke.

Michelle answers:

Healthy diet, exercise and wearing boxers as much as possible. No hot baths or hot tubs (jacuzzis) and keep hot showers as short as possible.

Your Questions About Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Maria asks…

What everyday foods are good for pregnancy heartburn?

Well folks, I am hitting that third trimester, and the baby is high enough and pushing everything up enough to give me good old heartburn at night.
I just wanted to see what natural suggestions people had for getting rid of the heartburn. This is my second time around and I don’t remember what all I did with my first, besides Tums.

I’m looking for more along the lines of what I should put in dinner to help.

Michelle answers:

Well Drinking a cup of milk always helps me. I’m 33 wks along and I know all about the heartburn. Another thing you could do would be to try and hold off on your tomato type foods. That’s one of the worse heartburn starters for me bc of the acidicness of anything tomato LOL. Also keep a extra large container of tums by your bed at nite 😉 Water sometimes helped also, or taking a bath. Dunno why but it works for me

George asks…

Polite way to deal with unsolicited pregnancy/parenting advice & awkward questions?

I’m 24 wks along with my 1st. Advice from friends, family, and complete strangers has already started rolling in, along with awkward questions from total strangers. How to deal? I’d rather not be rude. For example:

When I tell people we’re only planning on having one child, some of them act like it’s a form of child abuse not to provide my kid with a sibling.

When strangers ask me about my breastfeeding plans. Yes, I plan on breastfeeding, but is it really everyone else’s business??

People who try to talk me into or out of things like epidurals, cervical blocks, and natural, drug-free childbirth…and then there’s the whole stay-at-home mom vs. working mom issue…all personal decisions…

I’ve even had little old ladies ask me about my bowel movements?!?

Just wondered how the rest of you dealt or are dealing with all that… Maybe the pregnancy hormones are making me extra annoyed…thanks 🙂

Michelle answers:

I’d just say “thanks, I’ll take that into consideration”. But for me, most of the unwanted comments/questions/advice came from my own mother. I knew she was only trying to help but at times, especially after the baby was born, she just wouldn’t back off! I felt like she thought I wasn’t doing a good enough job at being a mom and like she was trying to take over. I finally just had to sit her down and tell her “mom, thanks for everything, i know you want to help but i’m going to do things my way and if you don’t always agree i’m sorry but this is my child and i’ll figure out whats best for us”

Jenny asks…

Will sex be the same after pregnancy?

I am 37 years old and 32 weeks pregnant with our first baby. I want a natural birth and because I am birthing at home, I am not likely to get an episiotomy.
I am concerned now I will be too loose “down there” to please my husband. Sex has been great (altough less often) during pregnancy. I read keggels are good to recover tone, but will I ever be the same or will I be too loose? Some men actually ‘force’ they wifes to a c-section so they don’t change down there. Any experiences out there?

Michelle answers:

Kegels are your best friend! Do them regularly and you should be ok! I have 3 kids and all is good down there. Of course it won’t be exactly the same as before kids, but I can honestly say that sex has gotten better since I had them! Just be one with the kegels and you will be fine!

Mandy asks…

A new pregnancy or lingering symptoms?

Sorry I’m asking so much about this. I have another question. I had a miscarriage at 5 1/2 weeks starting on June 30th 2009 and it completed naturally on July 2nd and continued bleeding till July 9th. Went for a check up July 6th and doctor confirmed everything looked fine and hcg level had dropped to 7 from the original 490. Also, she said hubby and I could start TTC right away since I wasn’t far along and it was natural. We started TTC July 7th like two days before the bleeding completely stopped just cuz it was such a small amount by then. It’s July 17th now. I’m continuing to have lots of creamy white CM and like 4 days ago started experiencing some dizziness/headaches and dull cramping… oh and last night after one half glass of red wine I got sick and starting to break out more on face which I usually don’t at all??do you think its just ovulation symtoms or lingering miscarriage/old pregnancy symptoms…could this be a new pregnancy beginning….I don’t even know what to think. Thanks. I really would like to hear lots of answers and personal experiences. Seems I get once answer usually when I post.
haha again wow suprise suprise only one answer…..screw this $hit….I answer soo many peoples questions and when I go to post I get 1 answer….

well to the person who answered…thank you very much..you’re getting best answer 🙂 lol

Michelle answers:

I wouldn’t think that you would be pregnant again so soon, however some women do get pregnant immediately because they are more fertile.

But it sounds like it could just be some lingering hormones. And just because your HcG went back down to zero, there are still some other hormones working to get your body back on “schedule”.

I had a miscarriage Sept 08 and we TTC for 4 months before getting pregnant again, I don’t think I ovulated until 6 weeks after my miscarriage and I miscarried naturally as you did.

Take a pregnancy test if you are uncertain. If its positive, definitly go see a doc, u may be pregnant again!

Sorry about the miscarriage and best of luck!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy After Ivf

Daniel asks…

anyone gone through egg-retrieval process? (IVF/SURROGACY etc)?

I have tokophobia (inherent fear of pregnancy/birth etc) and after much deliveration with my supportive spouse, we’ve agreed to pursue surrogacy. Has anyone gone through the egg-retrieval process (for IVF/Surrogacy etc)?? Further more, has anyone gone through a natural/self pregnancy AND surrocy (i’m aware this is an unlikely combination, but am wondering if people had problems conceiving/carrying to term a second child and could comment on the comparason between the two birthing experiences).
Thank you!

Michelle answers:

I went through IVF, i had to have eggs retreied and put back in, but this is my first baby so I dont think I can answer your question about comparison.

Paul asks…

Is IUI a possibility?

My wife and I found out last year that I had a bilateral epididymal bloackage. I had surgery in January 2010 and we just found out that after all this time my sperm has begun to flow again!! Woohoo! There wasn’t very many, only 600 approximately, but the doctor says that this is very encouraging news.

In our consultations with him he had told us that IUI wasn’t an option for us. This was because when there is a blockage, the sperm do not have the opportunity to mature enough to be viable for IUI. I’m wondering now if they will be able to mature since apparently the blockage has been removed. We really don’t want to have to go with IVF and if natural pregnancy isn’t possible we’re hoping IUI will now be back on the table for us. Before we got this good news we had already made an appointment for next week to see the reproductive endocrinologist that my infertility doctor recommended. So I’m sure I’ll get a more difinitive answer from him, but we’re very anxious to get a few glimmers of hope (seeing as this has been extremely emotional for my wife as of late). In the mean time we’re trying to find out how we can increase my sperm count so…if anyone knows that as well please let me know. And no “old wive’s tales” either…just the facts please.

Michelle answers:

Aww great news! I know how emotionally draining this all is.

Our reproductive endocrinologist wanted 5mil sperm post wash to do an IUI. I have heard of couple having a successful IUI with a post wash count of 4mil. Our first IUI we had 8mil post wash and our 2nd we had 9mil post wash. Our whole reason to do IUI was because our infertility is male factor. We didn’t have success with either IUI, but in the future we will probably give it another go or two, as my husband’s sperm count has gone up a bit and here’s why:

Our RE recommended 1000mg of vitamins C and E a day. It can really boost a count. My husband takes those everyday, along with a prenatal vitamin, extra zinc and selenium, and fish oils. One vitamin that I started him on right after his first semen analysis was L carnitine. I also started him on False unicorn root. Between the L carnitine and false unicorn root (false unicorn is hard to find, the only way I was able to get it was online) his count went from 12mil to 60mil, and for the last IUI his count went up to 80mil. Thing is in my husband’s case, even know his count went up, the quality wasn’t exactly up to par, but this is just HIS case. So we were still only left with 8 and 9mil for the IUI. Do start on a daily vitamin and at least do the 1000mg of vitamins C and E. Also, our RE referred us to a urologist, who put my husband on Clomid. Clomid is typically used to induce ovulation in women, but can also be used in men as well. We will find out July 6th, after another semen analysis, if Clomid has helped his count rise at all. Just speaking from experience, Do the daily vitamin, the C and E, and I would HIGHLY recommend L carnitine. Also, False Unicorn is sort of nature’s Clomid for men, if you want to give it a go.

I really wish you guys all the luck in the world. Hang in there, even if you have to resort to IVF, your hard work will pay off in the end. I know it’s draining, but hang in there and keep on truckin’ 🙂

Good luck.

Donald asks…

Surely this doesn’t mean im infertile, or does it?

I have just suffered my 3rd m/c. 1st was a blighted ovumn at 5wks, natural m/c, i got pregnant again straight away without having a period after m/c, everything was going well, had an early scan at 6wks 5days, saw the fetal pole, yolk sac, saw and heard the heartbeat, went for my next scan at 12wks only to be told it was only measuring 8wks and no longer a heartbeat, devastated, i had no m/c symptons at all, d&c required. I then got pregnant for a 3rd time having had periods in between, had just found out and 5 days later bleeding again, turns out it was a chemical pregnancy.

I had bloods done over 1week ago and so far have only got one back for bloodclotting which was normal, the other 6 will take a bit longer, should hopefully have them towards the end of the week.

I had posted a Q on before about the chances of having a successful pregnancy after 3 m/c and people started replying to me telling me to look at adoption and IVF etc, but surely having the 3 m/c doesn’t mean i am infertile as i can infact get pregnant, i am just having a bit of trouble holding onto them.

Michelle answers:

No, this does not mean you are infertile nor do you have to go to such extensive extremes to have a baby. The people on this group (no offense) are not professionals and some of them have never been in your shoes so you need to find other people that can give you solid advice besides just “go to your doctor” or “get ivf” Here are some sites that might help you:

Sharon asks…

will she get pregnant again?

my wife had just one cycle of iui. and she got pregnant after one month.but it was an ectopic pregnancy. we have no choice but to take out the baby to her body. she is 32 yr old and were 2 yrs married. the baby was more than a month. it has a heartbeat actually. my heart was broken that time. but at least my wife is ok now and that is the most important. my question is, is it easy for her to get pregnant after that operation? in a natural way? we dont want to undergo iui or ivf. oh my, it was a nightmare.

Michelle answers:

I can speak from experience… I had a ectopic pregnancy and had my right tube removed. I was also very sad. I can say that YES you can get pregnant naturally.. She is higher risk of another one, but the Dr will do an ultrasound early to make sure that it is not one. I am now 29 weeks pregnant with twins and I took nothing to get pregnant. Try to just stay positive and be there for her.. Good luck

Your Questions About Natural Remedies In Pregnancy

William asks…

What could be causing this?

Im nearly 5 months pregnant and for the past four days Ive been getting migraines in the early hours of the morning, then after I wake up Ive got a really sensitive head for the rest of the day.

Ive been to the nurse but my blood pressure is perfect and Ive cut out chocolate, cheese and switch to decaff tea.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this or is this all natural? I suffered extremely bad migraines with my daughter but they were later on in the pregnancy and related to BP. I have been taking paracetemol but im not comfortable taking them so any home remedies would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Michelle answers:

Unfortunately some of us do suffer from migraines during pregnancy 🙁
It’s just one of those joys that we have to put up with I’m afraid. I’m suffering from the same thing at the moment and my blood pressure is fine too. This is my 4th child and I didn’t suffer from this with any of my other pregnancies. Seems to be completely random but all natural and although it’s really unpleasant it doesn’t harm baby.

4head which is a roller fluid applied to the temples is safe during pregnancy as an alternative to paracetemol. But Paracetemol is cleared for use when your pregnant so moderate amounts are fine.

Sometimes this problem lessens in later pregnancy so lets hope that happens for us! Good luck!

Sandra asks…

HOW MUCH Chamomile tea will help induce labor?

I read that chamomile tea (in large amounts) is not good to drink during pregnancy, until the end, because it can cause contractions. I am TRYING to cause contractions, and i have read several peoples stories saying it really helps you go into labor. I just need to know HOW MUCH do i drink everyday?

I’m 37 weeks and 3 days, I want to have a natural labor but my doctor has scheduled me for a c section at 40 weeks because I have gestational diabetes and that is what my health care providers policy is. I had an ultrasound yesterday and my baby is average size and measuring at 37 weeks, so i’m NOT going to have a BIG baby, and thats the only reason they make women have the c section. doesnt really make sense in every case.

Please don’t tell me that it doesn’t work or about other remedies, I know them ALL, and I am just trying to avaoid a c sections. ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I SHOULD BE DRINKING PLEASE!!
I DONT WANT SMART ASS REPLIES>>>THANKS!

Michelle answers:

Chamomile tea is not safe to drink during pregnancy for a reason and that doesn’t change just cause you want to cause contractions. I would say none is safe to drink. Try using a different method, or contact your doctor and see what they recomend for you to do.

Nancy asks…

Advice please!? Temps still elevated but BFN!?

Okay, here comes a lot of info: DH and I have been TTC #1 for 5 months. I recently learned my luteal phase was too short (8-9 days) and so began self-treating with vit B6 and natural progesterone cream. This month I ovulated a day later than expected but still BD’d plenty within the necessary time frame. I am now 12 DPO (home remedies work!!) and my basal temps are still elevated but my first morning urine test this a.m. was negative. My FertilityFriend.com chart shows what looks to be an implantation dip at 7 DPO and then a possible triphasic elevation after that. I will keep testing periodically until AF makes her way to me but has anyone else experienced anything like this? If my period was due yesterday and I used a sensitive HPT, wouldn’t pregnancy be detected? Or is it still too early? Thanks in advance!
How do I post my FertilityFriend.com chart? I would love to put it up here but don’t know how!!
Sorry, forgot to mention the progesterone cream. It’s called Natural Progesterone Cream and the company is Source Naturals. It’s paraben free and I got it from my local health-food/organic market. It’s in a 4 ounce jar with a burgundy colored lid. It and the B6 seem to be doing something!!
http://www.fertilityfriend.com/ttc/index.php?interface=0

Michelle answers:

Can you post the sharing like to your fertility friend chart?? I love looking at charts!!!

If you think you implanted on 7dpo, you’ll want ot give yourself 7-9 days AFTER that to test. It sometimes takes a while to get your levels up enough to show up on an HPT.

Congratz on the 12 day luteal phase!! I’d also love to know what natural progestrone cream you are using? My luteal phase is only 11 days 🙁

Donna asks…

Any “home remedy” ideas for increasing libido in women?

I am in my late twenties and very happily married. My husband and I are still newlyweds and fall more in love with each other everyday. He is ALWAYS in the mood and telling me how incredibly attracted he is to me. When we first started dating, I couldn’t keep my hands off of him. Over the last couple of months though, I seem to have lost my sex drive. I have just (this week) finished my last cycle of birth control and have decided to go natural. I have been on some form of birth control for over 10 years in order to regulate my cycle. My husband and I cannot have children, so there is no fear of pregnancy. I need help figuring out why my libido has fallen and any ideas to improve it. Thank you.

Michelle answers:

Yes, there are many home remedies to increase your libido to put the sizzle back into your marriage!

There are many natural food aphrodisiacs such as chocolate, bananas, asparagus, strawberries, peaches, and oysters. You may also want to try some natural spices including vanilla, ginseng, and pepper. You can find a great article on these natural aphrodisiacs here: http://www.womans-health.net/natural_food_aphrodisiacs.htm
The website actually has several other helpful articles to increase libido with natural solutions that you should definitely check out!

Hope this helps!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Remedies

Donald asks…

16 weeks pregnant w/ a sinus infection…what can I do?

I’m 16 weeks pregnant with my first! 😀 But unfortunately I’ve managed to get a sinus infection. Even before I got pregnant I would get sinus infections 2-3 times a year and this sinus infection seems to be intensified with the pregnancy. My head is so full of pressure, my nose is both stuffy and runny(I can hardly breathe), and due to all the heavy mucas and drainage my throat hurts and its making me nausceous and I keep gagging. I use a saline sinus rinse and that helps but is there anything else? The OB nurse said I could take sudafed but I just don’t really wanna take any chances with medication(and sudafed is a Class B so that makes me a little leary)…Any home remedies/natural remedies anyone’s got that won’t harm my growing baby? Please help, I’m miserable.

Michelle answers:

Have you tried filling a basin full of hot water and putting your head over with a towel over your head and breath in the steam? Might help relieve some of the pressure.

I had something similar a couple of weeks ago and thats what I was told to do as not allowed to take any meds.
Lots of hot baths, hot drinks, wrapping up warm..

Also, I know this might sound stupid but I watched on a tv show that fruit cordiles are supposed to help lol.. Every time I have the colf/flue I always drink lots of hot lime cordile – but it might just be in my head! But I think it works 🙂

Get well soon..

Michael asks…

What type of infection caused your membrane bag to rupture early?

I was having a pretty normal pregnancy. but my water broke early feb one night laying bed. broke with a gush and 25 hours later i delivered my first baby, a boy. I was only 17w 3d preg. He was alive until contractions, he couldn’t make it through delivery, too small. They tested the placenta/amnio sac and found an infection to be the cause but didn’t do a culture to find out what type of infection. a week later my midwife did a vag swab culture and i was positive for Group B Strep. Since it was such a high colonization we can only assume that was the infection. I never had any signs of infection and nothing else came back on the culture. Im worried i might lose another baby early on because of this. The hospital drs at my follow up said that GBS wasn’t the cause, it only happens later during delivery. But thats not what i have found out from all my online research. Has anyone else gone through this? Lost a baby to an infection, and not positive on what kind of infection especially since never had a fever or other signs of infection. Then went on to have a healthy full term baby? any treatments? I am on a few different natural remedies to help balance out the GBS since I know i cant completely get rid of it, since it is a natural bacteria in the body.

Michelle answers:

I’m sorry I can’t be of much assistance, but I had many and I mean many UTIs and kidney infections and my baby turned out fine…also my friend was positive for group strep b and her baby was fine as well, maybe you should stop stressing, but if you still feel like your doctor isn’t doing enough switch theres nothing wrong with changing docs.

Paul asks…

Does St Johns Wart help anxiety?

I have had problems with anxiety for the past 10 years. I was on medications for that entire time until last July when I found out I was pregnant. As soon as I found out I was pregnant I started to slowly go off of Cymbalta and Klonopin. I was actually fine through the pregnancy and never took a Klonopin or anything. I had my twins in February and since then my anxiety has been progressively getting worse and worse. I really don’t want to go back on anything because I always felt like a zombie even though I only took the Klonopin when needed and not every night. I hate being on medication and would like to try natural remedies. I know that St. Johns Wart can help depression, but can it also help anxiety? Are there any other natural things that can be takin? What about different kinds of foods that can help relax a person. I have read that blueberries, peaches and almonds can help. I have also tried to start limiting my caffeine intake since I love Pepsi. Has anyone tried any of these things at all? I have also noticed that my anxiety is much worse at night, I do really well during the day…but as soon as night hits my anxiety gets worse. Any info. or advice would be great! Thanks!!!

Michelle answers:

Check out “natural cures” at www.depressiondodging.com. There are a lot of herbs that help with anxiety in the herbal remedies for depression article.

Btw, St. John’s wort can help anxeity.

Laura asks…

How did you find out you had PCOS?

I have heard that PCOS is very common.
I’m kind of getting scared I might have it, even though I don’t have those symptoms:
Hirsutism, thin hair, irregular periods…NONE.
My period started at the age of 11, but it’s normal for them to be irregular at the time( Or I never even payed attention to them). From 14 and on my periods have always been regular(Every 28 days).
I have gotten pregnant twice in less than a year. My first pregnancy took me 3 months to get pregnant but miscarried at 12 weeks(Baby died at 6w) it was a missed miscarriage in February 09. Then I started TTC again and got pregnant 4 months later with my baby boy. The whole pregnancy was risky..I had spotting and bleeding all the time having to rush to the ER. The doctor discovered I had placenta previa(Complete previa). At 19 weeks I had placental abruption and ended up giving birth at 23 weeks due to that. My baby boy died after birth, they couldnt save him 🙁 This happened in January this year. After those two events I went to another doctor and he told me that I must have had infection (Which I did test positive for infection UTI). I really keep thinking that it was my other doctor’s fault because I had a lot of back pain and he never prescribed me any medication..He wanted all natural remedies. The thing is I want to know why I havent conceived? I have been TTC since march with no luck. Could that mean PCOS or that has nothing to do with it? My new doctor did check my uterus and said it looked just fine and he did some testing and said that I’m very healthy, but the thought of PCOS runs in my mind.

Any feedback? Opinions?

Thanks 🙂

Michelle answers:

I went to the infertility Doctor & found out. He didn’t even have to run tests on me to tell me that I had it. He knew by my symptoms that I had it. Eventually he did do tests to confirm and he was right but if your Doctor has checked your uterus, done blood work, and has told you that you’re ovulating, I wouldn’t worry about having PCOS. You most likely don’t have it. It’s difficult to say why you haven’t conceived yet. You’ve been to the Doctors and they’ve told you that your healthy and they see no potential problems as to why you can’t conceive so it’s hard for anyone on yahoo answers to tell you something that you really want to hear as disappointing as that may sound. We’re not Doctor’s. All I can tell you is that I highly reccomend the Clomid. Even if you are ovulating on your own… The Clomid will help you ovulate and it will give you higher chances of conceiving. I don’t know about the Doctors where you live but if you’ve tried having a baby for longer than a year with no luck they really have to respect your decision to take the next step and Clomid would be the cheapest step as it’s only $8.00 or so a month. You only take a few pills a month (Not for the entire month) and BD and just let it work. It’s what got me pregnant. Good luck to you. Hope your time is coming near!!

Your Questions About Natural Remedies Pregnancy

William asks…

Have you got any natural remedies for acne in pregnancy?

I have asked this weeks ago but didn’t get many answers so I would love some extra help if possible!

I normally have acne but I can’t take the medication for it while pregnant. That means that including my pregnancy hormones have created acne on my face, arms, chest and back and I would LOVE to get rid of it – or lessen it – as it is really getting me down!

On advice of somebody here I am trying tea-tree wash but my skin has gotten worse this last week for whatever reasons – so do you guys have any more ideas of what I can use and what is SAFE to use while pregnant?

Thank you!

Michelle answers:

I was wondering the same thing this morning.. So, I had to star the question. I HATE ACNE!!

Yeah, I was my face with cetaphil, which is noncomedogenic, doesn’t cause acne…. I use I.D. Bare Minerals make up, which is good for your skin. Also, if you do apply your make up with a brush, wash it regularly. Bacteria builds up on the brush, too.

Needless to say, my acne still increases with pregnancy. It’s annoying…

I want to add that any doctor I have talked to says to not use anything with alcohol on your skin. That can make it worse because it’ll dry your skin out, causing it to produce excess oil due to the dryness, and it will clog more pores…..You might want to research that one.

Linda asks…

any natural remedy to avoid pregnancy?

i just had sex and he took it out fast but i think some sperm got inside. i think i’m not in my fertile days yet but i need to know if someone knows any home or natural remedies i can use… i mean no pill or anything something i can do at home to avoid getting pregnant….somebody? please!?

Michelle answers:

Nothing is going to stop conception, natural or unnatural and once it creates a new life, then it becomes your responsibility whether you allow that to go on or not.

Sharon asks…

Is there a natural way to have your body release a pregnancy?

I am 3 months along, and found out that the fetus does not have a heartbeat. I do not want to have a procedure done at the hospital, but if my body does not pass this pregnancy by itself in the next few days, I do not have a choice. I am looking for natural remedies.

Michelle answers:

I found this website with some suggestions. Hope it helps.http://family-planning.suite101.com/article.cfm/herbal_abortion_methods

Paul asks…

Natural remedies for headaches during pregnancy?

There might be no such thing but I’m suffering a bad sinus infection which I am having medication to get rid of (going on 3 days now) and it is my mother’s 50th birthday tomorrow and I would REALLY like to enjoy it without all this constant headache pain.

Now, the medication might finally kick in by then and finally get rid of the headaches, but if not – what can I do???

Is there anything? Just got over Swine Flu – yep! – and I’m 19 Weeks 3 Days pregnant. I guess you can say I have had enough already! X

By the way, I drink TONNES of water to stay hydrated!

Thanks for your help if there is any!

Michelle answers:

Honestly, someone said decaffeinated tea, but a little bit of caffeine might work as well. And the Netti pot is good that someone recommended. I have had a sinus infection before, on my birthday, of course and my head was throbbing so bad I could of sworn I was having an aneurysm. Lots of sleep will probably help as well. I sometimes get sinus headaches so bad that do not go away until I take some tylenol or sudafed and sleep. Sorry that you are having all these issues. It’s not fun having this on top of all the usual pregnancy stuff. I do hope that you feel better hun.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Products

Susan asks…

Natural child birth and water breaking prematurely?

With my last pregnancy, my water broke at 39 weeks, but I was only about 2cm dilated and barely effaced. Because I wasn’t having regular contractions, my doctor put me on a pitocin drip to induce contractions and speed up dilation and effacement. I know this is a safety issue because it ensured that I delivered as soon as possible after my water broke, and I wasn’t planning on having a natural child birth anyway.

Would a natural birth be an option if I were in the same situation again? If I weren’t having normal and regular contractions yet my water broke, could I safely have a natural birth with out pitocin/similar product?

Michelle answers:

The water breaking thing and doctors trying to induce labor is ridiculous. It is not always necessary to induce labor since the amniotic fluid will replace itself. I would consider doing some research. If the baby is doing fine then there isn’t really a reason to worry about it. I know I will be slammed but the whole 24 hour BS is just that–BS. Pitocin is not good for babies at all and I wouldn’t let a doctor come near me with that crap again ever.

Lizzie asks…

I need some advice on eco-friendly parenting?

This is our first pregnancy and we are trying to be a “green” household. I’ve found some baby bottle companies that I would love to purchase from (Green to Grow, thinkbaby, and BornFree) but I live in a somewhat rural area so I don’t have access to a lot retailers. I’ve considered ordering online but we are on a tight budget so I don’t want to have to pay extra for shipping in handling. Do you know of any brands that are reasonably priced and are available at stores like Target, Wal-Mart, or Babies R Us? I know some bigger brands like Huggies and Johnsons offer a Naturals line but just how “natural” are they? Since I’m new at this I’m not really sure what to look for other than BPA free bottles. I’m looking for bottles, baby wipes, shampoos, lotions, really any natural baby product. Any suggestions, insight, or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Also, I know there’s a good chance that I will receive many products that are not natural as gifts at my baby shower. I will be extremely grateful for any and all gifts that I receive but is there any way that I can go about requesting only natural products without seeming ungrateful or snobby? I know natural baby products can be a bit costlier and I don’t want to be inconsiderate of guests’ limited budgets. And since we live in a more rural area I’m concerned that some extended family will view my requests as “better than thou” since a lot of them probably didn’t grow up in eco-friendly households. Please help! Thank you!

Michelle answers:

Once upon a time I was a pretty obnoxious vegetarian until many years into it I “woke up” to the social implications of my life-style & changed my viewpoints over time.
The best you can do (I think) is to announce your intentions to those around you & not hold them to your expectations.
You seem fairly aware of the limitations of your environment, & I hate to say it but there’s a fair amount of price gouging based on fear of the mostly unknown in the markets you’re wishing to engage.
Just say that you’re trying to “be green” & if you can help in this regard then great!
Hope this helps.

Michael asks…

Should Homeopathic treatments always be used by pregnant women?

I’m not sure what a homeopathic treatment is but I looked it up and it seems to mean its some sort of natural therapy method, such as using natural products and herbs, to help cure oneself.
Am i correct in understanding this information?

Also can you please answer below whether this statement is true or not:
—-> Homeopathic treatments should always be used by pregnant women because they are natural and will cause less harm to the developing embryo/fetus

Honestly I don’t think it is 100% true but from what I read online it seems that pregnant women should use homeopathic treatment. The reason I’m not sure is because I’ve heard(from a teacher I once had) that pregnant women should avoid or consume less of specific herbs, since some are shown to show side effects to the developing embryo/fetus health. Also, there was a list of which ones are bad for pregnancy, like rosemary for example.
…However, I really don’t remember too much though since it was awhile ago since I took the class.

Please let me know whether I’m correct with this. And please explain whether homeopathic treatment should or shouldn’t be used with pregnancy. Does this include herbs? b/c if not then im probably wrong…Please explain .

Michelle answers:

Don’t believe everything you read Honey.

Some herbs can cause miscarriage. In fact, you aren’t even supposed to take prenatal vitamins with herbs in them….seen as not safe.

If you are going to go in that direction…..I would consult your doctor about each and every herb you are looking to take and let Dr. Him/Her give you the okay.

Good Luck!

Chris asks…

What is the best treatment for eczema during pregnancy?

I’m 20 weeks pregnant and have suffered from discoid/nummular eczema for the past few years. Since I have been pregnant it has become progressively worse. I was using a pretty strong corticosteroid cream before pregnancy, but since it is a category C, I am no longer using it. I would also go to the tanning bed regularly, which helped tremendously, but of course I can’t do that anymore either. I’m currently using Aquaphor, which helps a little, but I was wondering if anyone has had luck using other products that are not harmful to the baby. I’ve seen a cream in the drugstore called Baby Eczema cream by Gente Naturals, and I’m wondering if it’s safe to use b/c it’s made for infants. It’s almost unbearable! I’m willing to try anything!! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Michelle answers:

Most topical steroids are actually considered safe to use during pregnancy. They are not absorbed systemically. (Which is why we use them, rather than taking prednisone pills.) The ‘catagory C’ rating is simply a blanket one for ALL types of steroids, from oral to inhaled to topical. (And is, in fact, the most common rating for all medications — they can’t give it a safer rating because they can’t do randomized studies on pregnant women. But if you look around, you’ll find many research articles and medical pages saying that there is no evidence of harm.

Check with your doctor; he may want to prescribe a slightly different type, but there should be no reason you can’t continue to use the medicated creams.

(I have eczema too, and have never found anything OTC that works.)

Forever 21………..?

There is a store called Forever 21 aimed at women. Why do you think they chose the name “Forever 21“? how come it’s not “forever 23″? Are they trying to imply that 21 is the best year of your life and it should last forever if it could?

Forever between 19 and 25 sounds weird so they just picked one figure

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Linda asks…

Do you believe that IVF goes against the natural will of God?

I was recently thinking about IVF and Artificial Insemination and I personally believe that it goes against God’s will to conceive in natural child birth. I always believed that when married your pain is your spouse’s pain and vice versa.

Also knowing that we are not supposed to know our future. So if we use these methods then we are playing God and not trusting our faith or trusting that he has a greater purpose for us like maybe adoption? Just want some thoughts on how other people feel about it.

Michelle answers:

I come from a LONG LONG LONG LONG line of catholics and if you want to have a baby with your husband YOU SHOULD! It is your right as a women to produce children and if you can’t get there on your own there are great doctors out there that can help you! So don’t feel like your going against God. I think you should pray about it and you will see that its okay! There is nothing wrong with IVF. Think of it like they are assisting you to get pregnant. IVF is not a guarentee. So your right it will still be up to God hun!!!!! GOOD LUCK HUN!!! Sending you a ton of baby dust!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris asks…

hcg betas in natural verses ivf?

i have to ask.. i have read in a blog somwhere on net that ivf conceptions are lower then natural..is that true? i dont see how if hcg doesnt occur untill after implantation anyways?
what are your thoughts? experiences?

thanks!

Michelle answers:

There is no truth to that . . .

I think that in IVF women are testing earlier as their RE is watching them, having blood work done to confirm pregnancy or to plan the next cycle so I think that they find out sooner than a woman TTC naturally in a lot of cases. Everything is much more exact in IVF as they are monitoring every little thing.

Richard asks…

Chances of natural pregnancy after ivf?

I went through IVF, never got pregnant, stopped treatment and got pregnant one month afterwards. Now I am wondering if I try to conceive again what are my chances of it happening naturally

Michelle answers:

Funny, same thing happened to one of my good friends… She tried to get PG and couldn’t. Went to dr- was told she had high FSH and needed IVF (she was 26 years old at the time). Did IVF, got PG with identical twins (embryo split after implanation! She had 3 embryos implanted, 1 took). She had beautiful twin boys in Feb ’06. When they were around 7 months old she started talking about doing IVF again in the near future, but a few weeks later discovered she was PG on her own! She was SHOCKED! A month ago she had baby boy #3! This does happen! What was your original reason you were having infertility problems? Find out if that that problem still exists… In my friend’s case I believe her high FSH worked itself out and went back down.. The body can do strange things sometimes! Or if you had blocked tubes, maybe they are unblocked now, who knows! You gotta see a doc (or RE) to have that checked out. If you did it once, chances are you can do it again naturally! 🙂 Good luck!

Lisa asks…

does anyone know the chances of a natural pregnancy following ivf?

Michelle answers:

A study by Cahill et al. ( 2005) suggests that the probability may be about 18%.

They found that the most important factors were:
1) Infertility diagnosis: women with “unexplained infertility” or “other” problems (other usually means ovulatory dysfunction) were more likely to conceive naturally (34.8%, 42.2%) than women with tubal problems (6.3%).

2) Age: women 38 years old or younger were more likely to conceive naturally (27.7%) than women over 38 (4.0%).

3) Duration of infertility: couples who were infertile for less than 3 years were more likely to conceive naturally (50%) than couples who were infertile longer (20%) .

I fit all three categories 🙂
I am 37, we did IVF (successfully) in 2006, after 2 plus years of trying, and are now pregnant naturally.
