Your Questions About Oldest Age For Natural Pregnancy

Sandra asks…

Why is intimacy and pleasure tabboo unless you’re 18 in this society?

I’m fourteen, and my girlfriend [also 14] and i have sex usually like every (or sometimes every OTHER) weekend. I understand u probly think we’re “too young” and we’ll “understand when we’re older… u know, that BS…

I do NOT think that any 14 yr old, or evn 16 or 17 yr old should be having sex. OR that sex shouldnt have an age limit or something like that. It is a HUGE responsibility and privilage.
I DO believe that sex should be accepted as a natural part of life as it was many centuries ago. I think it should ONLY be allowed to people who accept the risks, care about the concequences, and are mature about it. Also that people HAVING sex should truly be IN love. I truly am IN LOVE my girlfriend, and if you read my other Qs and actually knew about her life, you would see that i try to be there for her evry second possible, and that she IS my life. We want to get married at 16, and if you actually want to, go ahead and read my other Qs to get a better view of the situation.

i dont think this just because of my age, that’s a common mistake ppl think.
it’s my philosophy on life, and yes i have one at least at age 14… wisdom knows no age, that’s the beauty of it. and neither does intelligence, maturity obviously (based on many other discussions i have had with LITERALLY hundreds of others), a feeling, a thought, or any other PERSONAL view. Virtues are things that can be LEARNED, but only if you UNDERSTAND the meaning of HAVING them. For those ppl on here that think they know SO much more than me and are SO much better because of age, there is nothing i can do to change your mind, nor do i care, but why take you’re precious time to bash me while i wont listen to just that?

… I honestly dont mind if you do as long as you say something to actually contribute to the discussion, but PLEASE save your histrionic, narcissistic, antisocial, BS for someone who cares.
This is a discussion about what I’m about to say.

Why are people so concerned with policing other’s lives about sex??? If you really DO love someone WHY is it so wrong if you’re under 18?… people from 14-18 are at the SAME risk for STI’s and pregnancy!

what do YOU think?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

PLEASE IM me, i love discussing philosophy evn if you COMPLETELY dissagree…
brandonbrj is my AIM btw…
btw, my gf and i have been together for almost a year now
haha i know, i’ve already asked this, but i hate it when there’s too much to go through and the page gets REALLY long, and i wanted to make a few corrections so ppl would stop sayin stupid BS
and yes, born 02-07-1995 in Santa Maria, CA
i do consider anyone younger than 14, MAYBE 13 HUGELY depending on their maturity, relationship strength, and many other things, to be too young for sex, and im going to b fifteen soon…

but that doesnt mean that SAYING that i’ve had sex at 14 sounds right to me, i just see it that in MY situation at least and a few other’s that ive talked to about, it isn’t wrong in itself.

Michelle answers:

Because when your eighteen, society automatically assumes you’ve magically become responsible. What people don’t realize is, an eighteen year old is technically still not all grown up. You are right, their shouldn’t be an age limit. Each person, each individual has a different personality. You can’t say that an eighteen year old is more “responsible” than a fourteen year old. Why? Because everyone develops emotionally, and physically at their own pace which they feel comfortable with. Here’s the thing, most people, (not all!), love to interfere, and penalize everyone for every little thing they do wrong. Strangers feel the need to critisize and and comment on our personal lives, but to be honest, I don’t know why people do that. Us as humans are complex creatures, we can almost never make up our minds and solve our problems, yet we’re often called the smartest creature on this planet.

Well, that’s all I have to say about this. I love philosophy too! If you want to talk E-mail me. Hope I contributed something useful.

Mary asks…

Well I am thinking about trying to have a baby soon and I have a few questions about folic acid & other things?

I am only 19 years old, and I know that that is a very young age, but i feel that i am almost ready to have a little one of my own. And i have been doing some research on the computer, and they say that folic acid is good to take before and during pregnancy, so i went out and bought some it is labeled” Finest Natural Folic Acid 400mcg” and I needed to know if these are the right ones to take? Also I am wondering what could I do to increase my odds of getting pregnant sooner?
Thanks for your time & help!

Michelle answers:

I hope you own your own home, have a good education, steady job with decent benefits in case something goes wrong and have saved enough money to give your kids a good education. I know people insist that money can’t buy happiness and you don’t need money to raise good kids but it sure keeps them from screaming how much they hate you and wish they were never born for the next 25 years because you’re poorer than their friends’ families and they have to go to a crappy community college because their mom wanted kids.

Michelle answers:

Well I just turned 19 yrs old and I had my first baby 4 months ago, I was almost 40 weeks when I had delivered her. It was 4 days before I was due. My water broke around 11:11am and I went to the hospital and I delivered my baby at 9:07pm so I was in labor for about 10hrs or so, I had her natural and I had an epidural I dont know what I would have done without it, my contractions were so serious they hurt sooo bad (im not trying to scare you) but i honestly thought that I could have delivered without any pain meds, and I was def. Wrong. I cant even explain the pain, I didnt know what to do when my contractions were coming on I felt like I had to go to the bathroom then I was crying because I wanted to lay down and then I wanted to walk around lol it was crazy. When I was ready to push I pushed for about 20 mins and she was out. She weighed 6 pounds 9oz. In the end it was all worth it.
Good luck to you

INFERTILITY, CHANCES OF NATURAL CONCEPTION AFTER FIRST NORMAL DELIEVERY & 2ND TIME IVF SUCCESS CHANCES?

my wife had a IVF cycle & she was able to conceive twins the first time only. but after 26 weeks, water breakage occured and she gave birth to 1 girl & 1 boy. after surviving 3 days, both of them expired. now when i go for the 2nd cycle of IVF, what r the chances of successful conception. Her tubes are blocked. are there chances of natural conception also after she has delievered normally this first time. do guide for the further steps

Michelle answers:

Hey

I’m not too sure on what the chances of her trying to conceive naturally are if her tubes are blocked, because it means the egg will find it hard to travels down the tubes.
2nd IVF treatment will be more successful as they can make it work.

I am so sorry to hear of your losses, i recently lost my little boy at 34 weeks, he was stillborn 🙁
Best of luck and i wish you and your wife alot of luck.
Xx

Mary asks…

do there any differnce btween IVF embryo and natural babies?

Michelle answers:

IVF = fertilization of egg inside woman’s body without intercourse. Natural baby is result of intercourse.

James asks…

why do people use the “it goes against nature” argument for things like homosexuality, IVF and celibacy?

OK, so IVF isn’t “natural” but why do people make this argument when almost nothing that we do today is natural? technology isn’t natural, clothes aren’t natural, neither is money, lots of food combinations, the way we eat, showers, beds, medicine- none of it is natural, so what is the point of making this argument?

Michelle answers:

This is your trouble right here.

You’re trying to bring logic into a religiously fueled situation.

It just doesn’t work.

Religion isn’t natural. It goes against the order of nature.

Helen asks…

Do you think that IVF is bad for our over populated world?

I’m just saying, naturally, there are reasons that some will be able to have babies and some can’t. Our world is so over populated and in the US alone there have been over half a million IVF births since the 1980s. We are running out of natural resources as it is. Why can’t people just adopt the babies that are already here? I’ve adopted twice and I think IVF is highly selfish.

Michelle answers:

No.

Not using a condom when you don’t want a child is far more selfish (and results in far more children) than the few people who use IVF to have very wanted children in this world.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy

Daniel asks…

Has anyone prevented pregnancy for years using Natural Family Planning?

Hello, As a Catholic, I am looking into Natural Family Planning for someday when I’m married. However, I’m not sure that I trust it to prevent pregnancy since I have read conflicting reports on this method of birth control. Has anyone actually had success with postponing pregnancy for at least 3 years using this method? Has anyone had this method fail even though you were doing everything right?

Any answers with personal experience with this method will be most appreciated. Thank you.

Michelle answers:

Hi,

I have been using NFP on and off for 10+ years and my husband & I have taught NFP for over 7 years. It is a shame that people don’t know more about NFP because it is very effective. But people have such a knee-jerk reaction to NFP for a number of reasons. The first is that they equate modern NFP to the old rhythm method – “Oh my grandma had 12 kids so it doesn’t work.” Modern NFP is so different from the rhythm method, yet that perception still exists.

Then they see NFP families and yes, NFP couples tend to have more children. However, is that because NFP doesn’t work? Not usually. In most cases, NFP families are more open to children than those who chronically use contraception. So yes, they have 5 kids, but if you talk to them about their 5 kids, you find out that they know exactly when each child was conceived and how they knew they were in their fertile period and knew they could get pregnant.

Our own personal experience is that we used NFP to postpone for the first 2 years of our marriage, though some very challenging situations. We then used NFP to help diagnose a medical disorder that would go on to give me infertility issues. Thanks to NFP I was able to conceive twice during cycles where, if I hadn’t been using NFP, I never would have known to keep trying because I ovulated so late in my cycle.

If it makes you feel any better, one of the first couples we ever taught used NFP successfully for over 5 years before they decided to try for their first child. A college friend and his wife have been using it for their whole marriage, 3+ years now. Our other local teaching couple used it to plan their 6 kids and to postpone for 3 years since their last child was born. I could go on and on.

Most couples who have a “surprise” pregnancy with NFP do so because they try to have sex too late in the early part of their cycle. With NFP, as soon as you see any type cervical mucus you are automatically in the fertile part of your cycle. But some of those “surprise” pregnancies were because a couple took a chance after seeing that they were entering the fertile part of the cycle. So they weren’t really surprises… I don’t see many people who do everything right and get pregnant. I have seen a few non-planned pregnancy charts and in each case the couple broke a rule somehow; sometimes knowingly sometimes by forgetting.

So the key to effective NFP is to take a class and learn the method well. Start charting for months before the wedding day so that you can feel confident in the method. Stay in contact with your teacher and follow-up to make sure you are interpreting correctly. After a few months of charts, you should have enough confidence to use the method very effectively. There are also some extra conservative rules that you can use if you are nervous. For example, you can add a day to the rules so instead of waiting for 3 days of cervical mucus dry-up, you can add a day and make it 4 days of dry-up. Same with the temperature sign.

You can also set up a cut-off in the early part of your cycle so that you aren’t having sex too close to ovulation. Instead of using the last dry day rule, I know a few couples who just said – we’re going to stop having sex on day 9 even if still dry. You are probably being way more conservative than you have to be, but if you have a serious reason to postpone and feel uneasy about the risk, this is one way that you build in even more security.

The key to effective NFP is understanding the science behind it. If you look in some of my other answers, you can read some of the explanation behind that; since it sounds like you are already pretty knowledgeable I won’t repeat that here.

I hope this helps. Keep in mind also that some of the “conflicting reports” on NFP are sometimes studies paid for by condom companies, pharmaceuticals, and Planned Parenthood. They aren’t exactly objective. There are plenty of scientific studies by the World Health Organization, medical journals, etc to feel confident in the effectiveness of this method. Good luck!!

James asks…

Why is everyone crazy about going natural during pregnancy?

Ok so everything I’ve read and heard from the professionals says not to go natural… like minerals and herbs and organics… because it could hurt the baby and react funny with the chemicals in your body… why is it then that everyone wants to?

Michelle answers:

Some natural products they don’t recommend like herbal medicines and teas because they are not studied or regulated by the FDA. But don’t you want to use as many natural products as possible to protect you and your unborn from any chemical exposure that is not necessary. That even being said i would way rather drink some tea and take a valerian root to help me sleep (even though pregnancy risk line says they don’t suggest it) against ingesting tons of chemicals in an Ambien.

Carol asks…

Something natural that I can take for muscle pain and pain related to bones during pregnancy?

I have a lot of back pain and muscle pain do to bad scoliosis and spondylolysis (two of the bones in my back didn’t grow together right), along with knee and shoulder pain from various dislocations, hyper mobility, and the curvature of my neck is faced in the wrong direction. I have a lot of pain daily and realize I won’t be able to take pain meds while pregnant. What else could I take? I would prefer something natural and it has to be pregnancy safe.

Paul asks…

Is this the natural result of liberal attitudes towards sex?

10-year-old gives birth
28 September 2007

BRUSSELS – A ten-year-old girl from Charleroi gave birth to a baby last year. The father was 13.

“The pregnancy was a big surprise to the girl and her mother,” says doctor Robert Chef from Charleroi. “The child came to me with unexplained abdominal pain. She had also put on weight. Her mother had even put her on a diet for a while but that had little effect. When we examined her it turned out she was nine months pregnant. The child was carrying a full term baby.”

What surprised the doctor the most was that the 10-year-old really looked her age. “Some girls look like a teenager of 15 or 16 at that age. But not this girl.”

Still the delivery went smoothly. The young mother was given special treatment however. She was not admitted to the regular maternity ward lest this raise too many curious questions. She was given a bed in the children’s ward.
“The father of the baby came to visit her there as well. Many pregnancies in young girls are the result of incest. But that was not at all the case here. The father was a schoolmate of 13. A young guy as well.”

Robert Chef says the parents of the girl did not respond angrily. “The grandmother immediately took charge of the baby. She said she would raise it as her own child.”

Yesterday the medical weekly De Huisarts reported that 57 Belgian 10-year-olds had been prescribed a birth control pill last year. Some for medical reasons, but others for actual birth control.

Steven asks…

What do you think the chances are getting pregnant this time?

I have a healthy 4 yr old daughter and that pregnancy went fine. We had been trying for 9 months for our second child and sadly I had a natural miscarriage on 7/15/07 I was only 4 weeks along. My doctor said we can start trying after I stopped bleeding so we have be trying since 7/24/07 but I took a pregnancy test on 8/10/07 and it was negative. Do you think I could still be pregnant and the HCG level was to early to detect? I also was reading that after a natural miscarriage you ovulate during 6-8 weeks after the miscarriage so should we still keep trying during those weeks? I am not stressing it we have sex only 3 times for fun and I just want to know what do you think the chances are to get pregnant again? Thank you for all your answers and advice.

Michelle answers:

Keep trying. It might take a bit longer this time around. I had the same thing with HCG levels – even hospital gave me negative answer and later on came out I was pregnant.

Mandy asks…

How Long Should You Wait Between Pregnancies?

I have a 13 1/2mth old son and he was a natural birth.
My partner and I are TTC#2 but I have been reading that it’s not recommened to get pregnant until your child is about 4 because your body isn’t physically ready.

My questions today are:
1) How long should you wait between pregnancies?

2) What would happen if I was to get pregnant now?
Would my baby be at risk?

3) How far apart are your children? Did you have a more complicated pregnancy because they were close/far apart?

Michelle answers:

I have not heard 4 years. I heard that the body needs at least 6 months to fully recover from birth! You should be fine to get pregnant now. I have 2 kids, and they are 18 months apart. My second pregnancy was a smooth one. Many moms in our playgroup are also having baby #2, and their kids are around 2-3 years apart 🙂

Your Questions About Natural Ivf Cycle

Ken asks…

To those who have/had their positive pregnancy test. It is OK to laugh?

I don’t know if this has to do with anything, if anything it is funny

Today I am day +8, after egg transfer of 2 grade 1 embryos. I have my BT on Monday and the nurse at the clinic tells me that the earliest they can detect any HcG is no sooner then day +10, but we all know what the 2 week wait is like 🙂 At the moment I can’t imagine my body is not doing anything natural at the moment due to this IVF cycle and all the meds and all that, anyway to get to the point, other then the AF pains, and the tender (.)(.) from the crinone gel I reckon, my nibbles are so dry and hard and itchy (sorry tmi) more the left then the right, but don’t know if this has anything to do with anything I just wanted to know if others have had something similar, or maybe it is just a laugh and a reaction of all the meds I have had over the last month. Heres hoping it is a positive

Michelle answers:

Well I’ hope your positive because I’m having All the same symptoms (even the itchier left then right thing) and I am 7 days past due for a period….I hope we’re both pregnant. Good Luck!

Donna asks…

IVF, what are the chances?

I had a fet yesterday, the embryologist said the embryo defrosted nicely and looked very healthy, so just wondering what the chances of it implanted successfully are now that i know it defrosted well? It was frozen 5 days post egg collection. I became pregnant first go with my 4 mth old son with a fresh cycle. Also what are the first signs, as i have had no medication at all, but with my last pregnancy i was on hormones so i am not sure what the first signs of pregnancy are in a natural pregnancy and when the signs start. TIA

Michelle answers:

Um, sore tits, pissing all the time, being a moody biatch – well I guess its hard for you to tell if you are actually pregnant – that is you already HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHHAAHAHHA

John asks…

Have you had symptoms of implantation?

If so what were they (spotting, cramping, etc) and when were they in your cycle (cycle day, dpo, before or after expected period, etc)? I am just curious as I had brown spotting off and on yesterday which was cycle day 22 for me and about 8 dpo. I have had nothing since yesterday evening. Also my period is not due until at least Monday and I have only had spotting a day before my period before and it is usually a little heavier and more red and doesn’t stop.

Thanks so much for sharing your stories and any info with me.

P.S. TTC for 27 months now, seeing an RE, this was a natural cycle, supposed to start a treatment cycle with Gonal F and timed intercourse at the start of my next period and if that fails it is on to IVF. Our doctor was joking last week and said that just talking about IVF scares your body into getting pregnant. We laughed but he said he sees it happen a lot.
I had some slight cramping on and off the past couple of days too.
I just thought it was odd and it caught me totally off guard yesterday because I am at least 7 days away from my period. I am trying not to read too much into but I am still hopeful!!!

Michelle answers:

I honestly do not recall if I had it with my first four or my miscarriage. I did have some implantation symptoms with my current pregnancy; I had one day (like two to three times throughout that day) of light brown spotting. I also was having slight cramping/pulling sensations. I was paying close attention this time because I was “trying” to get pregnant, so I was really in tune with my body. With my boys I wasn’t trying, I was very lucky (2 surprises and 2 “lets get pregnant” and bam that month I got a positive, the time I miscarried, I had no clue I was pregnant till I realized I missed a period. Then this time we were trying, so like I said , and I am sure you do the same thing, you pay close attention to your body and you know when something is different. I have long cycles, around 31-33 days and I ovulate late in my cycle, I experienced the spotting around 9 dpo. After the spotting, I continued to have the cramping/pulling feelings and my breasts began to itch and become tender.

I hope it is your month, and if not I hope and pray that it happens very soon for you and your husband. Good luck!!!!!!

I had the spotting 7 days before I expect my period which is why I thought it was odd. I read on article online last night that said 20-30% of women will have implantation spotting or bleeding.

Michelle answers:

YES! YES AND YESSSS!
I had been TTC for about 18 months when I finally regulated my cycles and what not, I was charting and was definitely playing REALLY close attention to my body.

With a normal 28 day cycle, Ovulating on CD 15 I had implantation bleeding, GUARENTEED on 7 dpo. It sained my panties, was a brown color and was very on and off all day…when it was on it was practically off, one bathroom break nothing, the next bathroom break I had brown stains on my panties…so I thought…..hmmm…along with the spotting I had cramping and pullings here or there….

That night I bought an EPT and got a faint positive! THe browner it is the better…and mine even turned into a faint pink at one point…

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Donald asks…

The pregnancy test indicated positive, but there is a sign of period?

hi, last week, the pregnancy test indicated that my girlfriend is pregnant. So we went to see doctor and he said she is 99.9% pregnant and he counted probably pregnant for 5 weeks. However, today after we had sex, there was a litttle amount of blood coming out, seems like period. Is that normal? or may be natural abortion?

Michelle answers:

Your cervix is easily irritated in pregnancy due to the increase in hormones so the blood could possibly be coming from there. There is no need to worry unless the blood turns bright red and becomes heavy.

Laura asks…

When is the best time to take a pregnancy test?

I have bee trying to get pregnant for a little over 3 years. And I have taken A LOT of tests some come out wrong. Is there a good time to take one & when is it? To anyone that might know. Im about ready to see a doctor & really don’t want to. We are trying to do it God’s way you know all natural.

Michelle answers:

The best time to take a pregnancy test is in the morning right when you wake up. Reason being, at this point your urine in the morning contains the most hormones and will be most accurate for a pregnancy test. Drinking water the night before (like right before you go to bed make help.) it wont delute your pee because it sits in you all night. But drinking water to make you have to pee will not be as accurate. So good luck and if you are unable to concieve all natural, its ok. My aunt had to do the invetro method because she was 43 and still trying to have her first baby. Which it worked, she carried and had a beautiful baby girl who is now 3 yrs old! Good luck!

Joseph asks…

mostly natural pregnancy, no tests, no drugs, but i want ultrasounds..?

i plan on having my baby naturally. i only want non invasive care. i dont mind finger pricks, but i dont want any blood drawn, the only thing i want to do is get ultrasounds. has anyone done this before? whgat was your experience
honestly, blood work is not necessary. how do you think woman used to do this?
why did you “answer” my question if you were just going to give a close minded opinion on how you think i am selfish?
okay, DONT ANSWER THIS IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO GIVE ME AN ACTUAL ANSWER. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR OPINIONS
i didnt say all natural. i said mostly natural. i have already been screened for blood problems.
no woman in my family has ever had any problems where they needed emergency care. if something happens and i need a C section that is one thing, but i do not plan on giving blood, or taking some extreme drugs like an epidural. i dont need your rude opinions

Michelle answers:

Hi,
i did that with my first child.. I only had ultrasounds done.. I didn’t have anything else.. My baby is 3 years old and healthy as ever.. I did this because my mom did it to me and my four brothers and all my brothers wife’s did this also.. We did this because we know god made our bodies with the ability to give birth without complications.. I know that some people have problems with it but if your meant to have a child then you will…
For the people that have negitive things to say they should remember that everyone has their own ways of thinking…
I wish the best for you and i hope you have a great pregnancy…

Positive Pregnancy Test Normal HCG but Low Progesterone??

Last Wed. I had a blood test for pregnancy. The test came back positive. My HCG levels were around 3200, but my progesterone was very low at 4.7. I was retested today and am awaiting results. I have had mild right ovary pain, but no bleeding or spotting what so ever. The pain isn’t bad and it comes and goes.

This is my 4th pregnancy, first 2 were IVF and was on progesterone anyway, and my last pregnancy was natural as is this one. No problems in the others.

Just looking for anyone with similar experiences. Thanks in advance.

Michelle answers:

Mine was a natural pregnancy, but my progersterone levels were at 4.2 for my first test. I had had a miscarriage 6 months before that pregnancy, and the doctor figured this was why. They’ll probably end up putting you on progesterone suppositories, i won’t go into detail because it’s kind of gross. Good luck though, hope you have a happy, healthy baby!

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Daniel asks…

Is it safe to exercise during pregnancy?

I’m 32 years old and 9 weeks pregnant with my first baby. Prior to pregnancy I was (hating it, but)running 5 miles a day and had been doing so for the past few years. However, my midwife told me I should only do gentle exercises which would not raise my heartbeat too high and make me too hot!!! Obviously this means no serious cardio and I am trying to figure out how I am going to control my weight if I cannot exercise during my pregnancy. ‘Gentle exercise’ never did anything for me and much as I hated it, there was a reason I had to do all that crazy cardio in the first place! Help! Is it the norm to only walk during pregnancy? I would have thought it’s healthy to keep the body fit and strong throughout this period and thought that as I have been athletic my whole life, this would not be too much of an issue. Not sure what to do now as I don’t want to risk my pregnancy in any way, and of course I won’t be running and going crazy at the gym, but I also need to watch my weight (as I soak up calories just by looking at food and also love my food and hence have to work to keep any semblance of a shape), else given my natural constitution, I will be a balloon by the time I get to 9 months!

Please let me know if you have any advice on the matter…

Michelle answers:

Exercise is greatly encouraged during pregnancy, but, as you stated, gently.

I was in a “Body Attack” class @ Gold’s Gym a few weeks ago. It’s basically weight training. There were two pregnant women in the class. I admired them for being there. Of course they only had a maximum of 10lb hand weights & did the simplest form of each exercise, but each woman looked great physically!

Swimming is also a great alternative.

Michael asks…

Immune system boosters during pregnancy?

My question was getting buried in the pregnancy section, so I posted another one here.
So my hubby has come down with an awweful case of the flu. Normally I would take large doeses of Vit C, Echinacea, and Garlic capsules at the onset to boost my immune system….but I am not sure if these are safe during pregnancy. What are some natural immune system boosters that are safe during pregnancy(I am 5 weeks)?
Also, what are some things I can give the kids to help boost their immune system as well(14 months and almost 4 years)? I am still nursing the 14 month old.

Michelle answers:

Just eat the garlic and vitamin C!!

Have lots of Italian food, or make garlic bread to eat w/ every meal! (must be fresh garlic to have the full effect, granulated and that pre minced stuff is not as strong – just peel the cloves put in a food processor or chopper with some olive oil salt and pepper until it becomes a thin paste… Slater on bread and bake until golden) your breath will stink, but I swear it works. From what I’ve read if we eat about one clove of fresh garlic a day, it has the same effect as those garlic capsules!

Vitamin C occurrs naturally highest in red berries, kiwi, and red/green bell peppers… Eat lots of those too, fresh is best.

And organic yogurt helps boost the good bacteria in your stomach that kills the bad bacteria that makes us sick. I can’t find the link right now, but one of the reasons the yogurt companies are making all these new health promoting versions is because of how our bodies intake the germs that make us sick, often through our mouths! No need to buy the new fancy health booster yogurts, the organic stuff, any flavor and any fat content, still has more of those natural live cultures. You can also add some extra cultures, it’s over the counter, but it is refridgerated so you have to ask the pharmacist for it – Lactinex – I like the granules, sprinkle them on the organic yogurt – again, safe for the babies too!

All this stuff is totally safe and healthy for daily living, children, pregnant, and lactating – even all at the same time!!! LOL

**edit*** good for you for not exposing yourself, your children, or your unborn child to somethign as silly and unnecessary as a flu shot. I’m 32, never had one, my 4 yr old never has and never will get one. My husband only had them while in the Army and there was not much worth fighting against, and each time, 6 yrs in a row, he got sick. I ate garlic and kiwi like it was going out of style and NEVER got sick, usually not even the sniffles. I also was exposed to the flu while nursing my daughter, she was 9 months, I got a cold that lasted a week, she got the sniffles for 3-4 days. I am not anti vaccinations, I don’t even delay them for my daughter… But this is a silly one for most people. And NO ONE should be shamed for chosing against a vaccination that is unnecessary. If you chose it, great, hope it works for you… But even if I did get sick, I would not regret chosing against it.

Laura asks…

Girlfriend likes it “Rough”, what does it mean?!?

My girlfriend isn’t a very romantic person, but she is a very sexual person. She likes me to be rough with her (i.e. put my hands around her neck, holding her down, holding her hands behind her bed, etc.)

Basically I have never been with someone like this and I wonder what this means. Does this usually root from sexual abuse as a child or some sort of abusive memories? She doesn’t say anything cute or romantic, doesn’t generally respond to romantic gestures and pretty much makes me feel like the female of the relationship. Please help, I need to know what I’m getting into.

For the record, she is a 31 yr old single mother (teen pregnancy) and was not raised by her natural parents. As far as I know, she was raised by her grandparents who treated her very well, but were old fashion.

Michelle answers:

Some girls just like it rough! It doesn’t mean she has been abused. Just pull her hair, smack her ass and love it! Lol

Donna asks…

PCOS? without having all of the symptoms?

How likely is it to be diagnosed with PCOS without having all of the symptoms?
So, I have been diagnosed with PCOS although I’m not overweight! the one and only symptom that I have is the facial hair..and the hair isn’t that much! it’s basically hard to notice any hair in my face!
I get my period every two weeks and it lasts for almost two weeks!
which means it’s regular but it lasts for so long!
I have been trying to conceive since 2004! I tried Clomid, Shots, and IVF!
my body was responding to every treatment I tried, but in the end there was no pregnancy!
So, why do i get my period every two weeks? it has been like that for about 7 years!
I’m 25 now!
and do you know any natural ways to fix this? to get my ovaries ovulate? I don’t wanna use birth control pills anymore!
please I need help! I wanna get pregnant so bad!

Michelle answers:

I was actually in the same situation.. Diagnosed with PCOS by 3 different doctors.. I had no symptoms what so ever.. I thought I had facial hair but I think it was only beacuse the doctors put in my mind I had PCOS.. I spent 6 months believing I had PCOS and trying to get pregnant for 2 years..
My periods we so scattered and I even had a cyst on my ovary that keep popping up…
Finally i requested to see a fertility specialists and he did even more lab tests and ultrasounds.. And although I had a cyst on my ovary he ruled out I was NOT pcos… I was just plain ol anvoulatory.. Which means theres nothing wrong with me… Some women just don’t ovulate on their own.. He also told me PCOS is an easy escape ghoat that doc use.. The diagnose you as pcos because it’s easier to just throw meds down your mouth and 98% of the time irregular periods are due to pcos…

So the doc put me on provera to get my period flowing and clomid to make me ovulate.. This gives me a regular cycle which should help me get pregnant…

Have you had a pelvic exam??? I don’t think pcos would cause a period to last for 2 weeks… If I were you I sould request to see another doctor and ask them over and over are you sure I have pcos?? Then I would suggust taking meda like provera to make your period arrive on time…

hi kingstone, I was diagnosed with it by ultrasouind and blood test!
how did you get pregnant? did you follow any diet or what?

Michelle answers:

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this, PCOS sucks! The strange pattern of your period is another symptom of PCOS, I used to get my period 3 times in 6 weeks. During an ultrasound my gyn was able to see that I had the “string of pearls” on my ovaries. Basically, a bunch of egg follicles that never matured and released. With your treatments I would imagine you’ve had this ultrasound done, right?

There are books out there that talk about regulating PCOS with diet (what you eat, not dieting). I’d suggest heading to your local library and checking a couple books out on that, maybe it’s just the thing you need. It worked for me.

Ruth asks…

Manny Ramirez suspension……?

Here’s my question Manny was banned for 50 games for his HCG levels being too high. Now the experts are saying steroid users do this to restart their natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. This is true, but how do we know that Manny and his wife aren’t trying to have another kid there last two were born in ’03 and ’06 and ’09 or ’10 fit will for a natural progression. Maybe he and his wife are going through fertility treatment (which could be a “personal problem” and are getting ready to through IVF. This would be a valid reason to have high levels of HGC in his system.

Now granted he may have problems concieving a kid because of steroid use but until he’s proven guilty of actual use, why jump the gun?

Michelle answers:

According to an ESPN report, the drug used by Manny Ramirez is human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), a women’s fertility drug typically used by steroid users to restart their body’s natural testosterone production as they come off a steroid cycle. It is similar to Clomid, the drug Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi and others used as clients of BALCO.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Prevention

Giving Free Contraceptives to Teens: Harmful or Helpful?

Teenagers having free access to contraceptives has been a swaying issue for those who believe that contraceptives are harmful or helpful. In this day and age teens are having sex at a younger and younger age. When the issue of giving free contraceptives to teenagers comes up there is the group that cringes into a ball and the other that gives a sigh of relief. The issues that are normally argued are that teenagers are not old or wise enough to make big decisions such as having sex, which contraceptive to use, or how to avoid the risk of getting an STD, HIV, or HPV. There are health advantages and concerns that arise with certain types of birth control including the prevention of STDs and AIDS. Or since teenagers go through puberty and are going to experiment anyways shouldn’t they have safe sex and be provided for? Do parents have to be notified if their teen is asking for contraceptives? Who would be paying for these “free” contraceptives? Also religious views and moral beliefs of the people decide how they react to the issue itself.
There are at least five main ways to prevent pregnancy. The first is abstinence, which is voluntarily refraining from any sexual activity. This form of contraceptive is the only contraceptive proven to be 100% effective. The second would be a fertility awareness method, Natural Family Planning (NFP) this form of birth control does not rely on any devices or medications to prevent pregnancy. Natural Family Planning is a contraceptive method that uses the natural functions of your body and your menstrual cycle to calculate ovulation. The most common features of NFP involve recording of your body temperature and changes in your cervical mucus each day. This method requires abstinence 7 to 10 days during the ovulation period. Some women choose to use a barrier method or withdrawal during this time frame. Barrier methods are a third choice, they are made to stop sperm from entering a woman’s uterus. The first form of barrier method is the male condom is a tube of thin material (latex rubber) that is rolled over the erect penis prior to contact with the vagina. A condom is a most common barrier method. The female condom is a seven-inch long pouch of polyurethane with two flexible rings and is inserted into the vagina prior to intercourse. The female condom covers the cervix, vaginal canal, and the immediate area around the vagina. The third barrier method is are chemicals that are designed to kill sperm. Spermicidal chemicals are available as foam, jelly, foaming tablets and vaginal suppositories. Diaphram is a soft rubber dome stretched over a flexible ring; the dome is filled with a spermicidal cream or jelly. The diaphragm is inserted into the vagina and placed over the cervix no more than 3 hours prior to intercourse. Cervical cap is a small cup made of latex rubber or plastic. The cervical cap is filled with a spermicidal cream or jelly and inserted into the vagina and placed over the cervix. Contraceptive sponge is a soft saucer-shaped device made from polyurethane foam. The fourth method, Hormonal methods contain manufactured forms of the hormones estrogen and/or progesterone. Hormonal methods work in one of three ways: 1) preventing a woman’s ovaries from releasing an egg each month; 2) causing the cervical mucus to thicken making it harder for sperm to reach and penetrate the egg; 3) thinning the lining of the uterus which reduces the likelihood that a fertilized egg will implant in the uterus wall. Hormonal contraceptives do not protect against the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases. The first form is the birth-control pill (“the pill“) are taken daily as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Depo-Provera is an injection given by your health care provider that prevents pregnancy for three months. Lunelle is an injection given by your health care provider that prevents pregnancy for one month. NuvaRing or vaginal ring is a flexible ring that is inserted into the vagina for three weeks, removed for one week, and then replaced with a new ring. Ortho Evra Patch/ Birth Control Patch is placed directly on the skin with the hormones built into the sticky side of the patch. Each week for the first three weeks a patch is placed on the hip, buttocks or upper arm. The fourth week you are free from the patch allowing for a menstrual period. Intrauterine Device (IUD) is placed directly on the skin with the hormones built into the sticky side of the patch. Each week for the first three weeks a patch is placed on the hip, buttocks or upper arm. The fourth week you are free from the patch allowing for a menstrual period. The n

Michelle answers:

Since it’s an argumentative paper, you can also add the pros and cons of each method.

Then in the final, you should have to answer your question, giving contraceptive helpful or not, or which methods would you propose be provided to the teenagers, will it be educating them the NFP method, providing them with condom etc. Whichever you choose, you will have to explain why.

Mandy asks…

Parents or not: Have you or would you educate your children about s*x?

I mean actually discussing how children are made and the importance of safe sex, etc.

Do you think that parents NOT discussing these matters with their children has contributed to the growing number of teens and young adults with STDs and unintended pregnancies?
Specifically in US and Britain, since you have more resources for prevention than many other countries do.

One last question… why are many parents unwilling to discuss something as natural as sex with their own children? In this day and age.

Michelle answers:

I think you’ve got to take a deep breath and be totally honest to children these days.
To me personally the danger is it is so easy for children to get access to porn these days through the internet and other media that you’ve got to balance it out in their minds that these people are being paid to act in such a way and sex isn’t a spectator sport in real life.
In reality many children know a hell of a lot more than we give them credit for but they still get important things mixed up and have to be corrected for their own sakes.
