Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Donald asks…

Natural medication or things to do to increase sperm count.?

I had one failed IVF and nd one with miscarriage at 13 weeks. According to the my hubby’s sperm is low count and low motility. is there anything anyone tried worked to increase the sperm count. I am tired off all the money spend on IVF and emotional pain. I wanted to see if this can happen to us naturally.
foxy lady both of mine were IVF. The doctor have said low count for us to conceive naturally.
I wish you all the best…..

Michelle answers:

You know, you sound like me! I had one miscarriage at 10 weeks [concieved naturally] and one failed IVF attempt – my partner also has a low sperm count. Was your pregnancy concieved naturally?
Things he can do to improve count – eat healthy, lots of fruit and veg, take a male vitamin supplement, eat brazil nuts, no alcohol :-(, no caffiene, no smoking, no hot baths, wear boxer shorts or nothing at all.
Good luck, and wish me luck too x

George asks…

Advise on low counts and IVF?

My husband has low counts he is 35 and am 33. I am deducted for high fsh. Is there any chance for natural conception or that IVF is the only possible way. Please Advise am so confused.

Michelle answers:

IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment; is very cheap in India. The cost is very low and the medical services are very good in India.

My cousin and her husband got their IVF treatment in India through the Indian Med Guru in India and is all praise for this company. She is a known case of PCOS.She is a very happy mother of a baby boy now. She just paid 2500 pounds for the full IVF treatment in India for which she was quoted 8000 pounds in private setup in UK.

Indian Med Guru is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the newspapers. I have also read about a Chinese couple who planned surrogacy through the Indian Med Guru. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery and infertility treatment like IVF, IUI, and ICSI abroad for low price. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery and treatment can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

Carol asks…

Are there any “natural” things to stimulate ovulation without using prescription drugs?

I am trying to find something to stimulate ovulation without using prescription drugs such as clomid. I lost a baby a year ago after years of trying and really want to get pregant again. I don’t have the finances to do IVF or anything of that sort, so I need something I can get at maybe a heath food store or similar. Any help would be great

Michelle answers:

Although herbs can be potent and may stimulate ovulation, the most important aspect about taking herbs is to address the underlying pattern of imbalance, rather than addressing lack of ovulation, which is what Clomid does.

Herbs like wild yam and vitex have been found to encourage ovulation, but only if you have the imbalance known as kidney yang vacuity (which includes luteal phase defect and low progesterone levels,) according to the pattern differentiation of Chinese medicine. If you are deficient in yin energies (like estrogen), taking wild yam and/or vitex will make your scenario worse.

I stress that the most important thing you can do to return your body to fully functioning reproductive help is to address the underlying pattern of imbalance. For example, women who are not menstruating because of low estrogen levels will not ovulate or menstruate until their follicles start producing estrogen. If low body fat is the reason for the low estrogen, then weight gain will be the only effective initial remedy. Then we can use the appropriate herbs to help restore balance to the hypothalamic-pituitary ovarian axis. Herbs tonify only what is deficient, address and remove any obstruction, and then the body does what it is supposed to do – ovulate on its own.

Yin deficiency symptoms include hot flashes, night sweats, dry eyes, mouth, vagina, lack of cervical mucus, etc. Herbs like angelica and asparagi would be appropriate here to restore reproductive balance.

Yang deficiency symptoms include low back pain, cold hands and feet, nighttime urination, low libido, etc. Herbs like vitex and wild yam will help this scenario restore endocrine health

Betty asks…

If you had multiples was it natural, because of fertility meds, or other fertility procedures?

Just curious for those who have had multiples or are pregnant with multiples…. was it natural, because of a fertility med (which one), or a different fertility procedure (like IUI or IVF or other)? I’m starting Femara soon and hope to be seeing that BFP in about a month!! Thank you for answering!! Take care!

Michelle answers:

I found out i was pregnant with twins and it was a shock but should have known because i was getting quite big fast, and it was natural and in there is twins in my family too

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Prevention

John asks…

Does the stretch mark cream mederma really work?

I just want to know if it works and how well it works. I do not want to know about any other stretch mark cream product and pleasee DO NOT post this:

There are creams out there that can help get rid of your stretch marks, but you need to find the right one.

I found this on the site I put in the source box below:

Things to look for in a stretch mark cream

There are a lot of creams and ointments out there that claim to remove stretch marks. The best way to fight stretch marks is to increase your skins flexibility before your stretch marks start appearing by using a topical cream on the area before the skin starts to show stretch marks. If you already have stretch marks, hope is not lost. There are creams out there that contain ingredients that help heal the skin while minimizing scar tissue.

Some of the key ingredients that you will want to make sure your cream contains are:

Vitamin A Palmitate

Vitamin A is an essential vitamin and is best known for having positive effects on vision. However Vitamin A is just as important to the largest organ; the skin.

Clinical studies have shown vitamin A to have properties that block the absorption of harmful UVA and UVB rays, as well as a stimulating effect on cell regeneration. It has been clinically shown to improve the appearance of striae (stretch marks) and regulate epidermal (skin) cell growth.

Aloe Vera Extract

Aloe vera has been shown in clinical studies to have a positive effect on wound healing and holds anti-inflammatory properties.

As stretch marks start out as microscopic tears in skin layers due to overstretching of the dermis, aloe vera helps heal these small wounds without causing scar tissue to form, effectively preventing the appearance of stretch marks. Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Chinese to decrease the appearance of scars and to moisturize and heal skin.

This extract from the aloe leaf protects skin from environmental factors and promotes skin regeneration.

Grapefruit Seed Extract

Grapefruit seed extract is a natural antibiotic used for many different types of skin ailments. It is a powerful ingredient to aid in the healing of skin damage. Grapefruit seed extract helps to restore damaged collagen and elastin, which strengthens and retextures the skin.

As collagen and elastin are responsible for the skins elasticity, improving and stimulating production of the connective tissue cells will prevent skin from tearing and thus prevent the formation of stretch marks. The condition of the skins connective tissue also dictates how well the skin contracts after pregnancy. So not only does this compound improve the condition of your stretching skin, after the delivery it will also aid in the contraction of your skin to its previous appearance.

DL-Penthenol

DL-Penthenol is the scientific name for pro-vitamin B5. It has healing properties on damaged skin as it works to improve the structure of both the lower and upper skin layers. DL-Panthenol soothes skin while stimulating cell growth and differentiation.

This ingredient aids in the regeneration of the skin, therefore aiding in reducing the appearance of existing stretch marks by replacing the scar tissue with new skin cells. It also acts to prevent stretch marks by promoting collagen and elastin production, which allows your skin to stretch without rupturing and causing stretch marks.

A cream that has shown to be highly effective at preventing stretch marks as well as healing stretch marks that you already have is Stretch Mark Prevention by Revitol.

Whether you are afraid that stretch marks may be in your future of if they are already a part of your life, the Stretch Mark Prevention cream is the product you will want on your side!

Robert asks…

Is it normal to not have coped with my herpes diagnosis after a yr?

I was diagnosed with this disease in september 2008 and found out that my pregnancy triggered my first and only outbreak.

I had twins in May and I feel even worse about it. I’m scared to kiss my babies. I’m scrubbing, disinfecting, sanitizing all day long. Then, having a daughter I feel that I’m not strong enough as a woman because I did not protect myself so how can I teach her?

The only way I could have contracted HSV-2 was through my 14 year old boyfriend when I was 16 or my current Fiance who I have been with for the past three years since I broke up with the 14 yr old. I believe strongly my Fiance is the one who gave it to me but he never had an outbreak until after I had mine. During a fight, he told me that the woman he stepped out of our relationship with didn’t have it so he blamed me for giving it to him.

How could he accuse me when we had been intimate for years and neither of us had an outbreak? Is it still possible that the woman he was with DID give it to him but it is still undetected in her?

If I did GIVE him herpes, wouldn’t SHE have it?

The whole situation is confusing and lets just say not a day goes by that I don’t think about it. I still cry every time I take a shower especially since I am terrified of infecting my babies. I couldn’t even experience a natural delivery because I didn’t want to risk passing this on to my babies.

I hate that I don’t know how in the hell I got this.

Anyone else not coping well or have any advice how to cope?

Anyone have children or any advice on prevention?

How do you regain interest in intimacy? I really hate having sex because of this. I trust my partner NOW but I lack confidence and I’m scared of everything else now STD related.

Help??? Thoughts??

Sorry it’s so long

Michelle answers:

I also have herpes, i have HSV-1 genitally.
I contracted it September 2007 and had a really hard time with it for about a year and a half.
I failed school, stopped goin to work, thought i was disgusting and went into a really bad depression about it.
Like you, I have no idea how i contracted it, which is what bothered me the most.
I do not sleep around and am very careful who i sleep with, but it only takes that 1 person who doesnt know they have it!
You will not automatically give it to your children.
If you have HSV genitally, then kissing your children will not give it to them. Its in your genitals, and that is where it will stay.
Make sure you do not share towels, and if you take baths, dont bathe in the same water as one of ur children and frequently clean the bathtub.
You will cope with it. Ive become more and more okay with it as the days go by, its not a big deal if you think about it, its more of an inconvience than anything, many people (like me) dont have what you have and thats what we all worry about,
My issues right now is finding myself someone to spend the rest of my life with, to have kids with… You have all that, you should just be soooo happy, its hard being single, having herpes, and wanting to date.

You have to realize its not the end of the world, and having your family should make you realize that even more!

This is going to sound really bad… But … As long as your children and you genitals do not come in contact with one another, you have nothing to worry about.
Just remember not to share towels, make sure you wash your hands frequently, everything will be ok.

Good luck with everything, I hope this helped!

Michelle answers:

The problem with HSV2 is the stigma that goes along with it. People think because someone has HSV2 they were irresponsible or slept with a lot of people. Anyone who has sex is at risk of getting Herpes. Herpes is so common now it is not even tested during the normal STD screening. It has to be specifically requested. One out of three people now has Herpes so you are not alone.

In your situation it is hard to say who gave it to you. The fact that your partner did not have an outbreak until after you had one could imply you had it first but it may also mean your fiance had it with no symptoms and passed it on to you. Once you got it, you had an outbreak right away and then he came into contact with your outbreak and then he got it. However you got it is neither here nor there. You are a new mother and should be thinking about your babies and getting married. Plenty of couples have Herpes and it will not interfere with a happy and healthy sex life. Since both you and your partner have Herpes you really don’t need to worry about wearing condoms.

I’m in my 30s and found out last year I have Herpes. I never had an outbreak and found out accidently by blood test. I was shocked and ashamed but after doing all of my research I discovered having Herpes is does not affect my normal day to day life. I recently met someone and told him about my Herpes before we had sex and to my surprise who knew even more about Herpes than I did. His ex-wife had it and they were married for 4 years and he never contracted it.

This is an excellent site to learn a lot of information about Herpes. The posters are really nice and will answer all your questions. Http://racoon.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboard.cgi

Natural methods to increase fertility?

i’m looking for some herbal/natural methods to increase fertility for my partner and myself. Also natural miscarriage preventions would be great. Do these natural fertility methods increase chances of multiple pregnancy? Are they safe? And do they actually work?

Michelle answers:

It really depends on what exactly are you having problems with? His sperm count? Do you Egg-white cervical mucus? I had problems with that and I used Evening Primose Oil and Robitussin with the G word as the main ingredient. I did tons of research. Check this website out and don’t forget to check out the FAQ TTC icon on the lower right. Best of baby dust to ya.

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Lizzie asks…

Second pregnancy fears?

I am currently 32 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first is 2 years old. Apart from being constantly tired and feeling fed up with being pregnant I am finding that I am really anxious about childbirth. In my first pregnancy I never worried about childbirth at all. Its not pain I am worried about but I keep thinking what if something goes wrong this time? what if something happens to me? I think its because I already have a child to take care of, whereas in my first pregnancy there was just me. My first labour went really smoothly, just 10 mins of pushing, so it doesn’t make sense that this time I feel scared. I am also scared of having a general anesthetic should it be necessary. In fact I am that anxious I am considering having a c-section with epidural instead of a natural birth!!! Has anyone else felt like this during a second pregnancy and is it normal? Am I stupid to feel like this? I just want to try and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy. Thanks

Michelle answers:

I’m EXACTLY the same.

With my first, I didn’t worry at all during pregnancy, especially when I started going over her due date.

My labor and birth did go extremely well and I only used gas & air, So I really surprised myself at how good my pain tolerance actually was.

This time around, I’m thinking about it quite a bit and I’m only 14 weeks. I think it’s because we know how painful the contractions are and we know what too expect. I just think to myself, I done great last time, so this time should be better =)

Steven asks…

Do any new mothers miss the way they looked before pregnancy?

I have a wonderful 11 week old daughter who is my angel.

Im ashamed to say that lately Ive been concentrating on missing my pre-pregnancy body/face, it was so much better in so many ways. I felt grossly unattractive throughout my pregnancy, put on 48lbs. Now I have b**bs down to my stomach and a stomach down to my knees. Ive also got tree trunk legs, leathery skin and dark circles aroubd my eyes, the list goes on. I look 10 years older.

Im dieting and trying to exercise but cannot help but miss the old me.

Do you judge me to be selfish? Or are these feelings natural? I wouldnt change things for the world as Im blessed with such a beautiful daughter but I feel so low when I think about it.

PS. My Husband tells me Im gorgeous but I know what I see.

Michelle answers:

No, I do not think that you are selfish at all. I think that those feelings are natural. I miss the way I looked before pregnancy too. I was a tiny size 2, flat tight belly, everything about me was tiny. The only good thing now is that I finally have boobies..lol. Now my boobs, thighs, butt, and stomach, are convered in ugly purple stretchmarks and my boobs have blue veins on them. I have dark circles under my eyes, my skin is really dry, the skin on my face is oily in some places and dry in others. My face keeps breaking out. So does my chest and lower back. My tummy looks like a butt, especially when I wear jeans. I feel so ugly now. I know how you feel..

I feel blessed to have a beautiful little girl as well though.

Ken asks…

Pregnancy back pain- sciatica? Help!!!?

I am having KILLER backpains the past week.
I am 23 weeks pregnant, with a retroverted uterus (my uterus is tilted towards my spine instead of outwards).
What the pai feels like is a pinched nerve in my lower back, only on the left side. Sometimes my whole leg goes numb. It flares up more and more with each passing day. Usually happens when I bend or twist my torso, which is REALLY hard to avoid doing (I have a 5 year old son, a dog, etc). It feels like a pinching, twingey pain that shoots up my back and down my legs. Pain is almost in my left bum cheek, if that makes sense. I have an appointment with a chiropractor in 4 days, thank goodness. My dr prescribed me some painkillers and anti inflammatories until then, but I want something natural and easy to stop the pain… It’s almost like I have to shuffle my feet because when I lift my left leg its excruciating pain… do you know exercises that would help me? I do pregnancy yoga most days but havent been able to because of the pain

Michelle answers:

I also have sciatica, and one thing that has helped is to do exercises that stretch the piriformis muscle, which is located in the buttock and extends from the sacroiliac area to the outer thigh.

It’s kind of hard to describe things only in words, without pictures, but — here are two exercises that have helped me. (Maybe you should talk to your dr first, since you’re pregnant?)

1. Sit in a chair with your feet touching the floor. Cross your left leg over by putting the outside of your left ankle on top of your right knee. Bend forward as far as you can, without leaning to one side or the other. You should feel a deep stretch in the side of the left buttock.

2. If you can safely lie on your back — lie face up, take your left foot and place it on the floor to the outside of your right knee. With your right hand, gently pull your left leg toward the floor on your right side. This stretches the piriformis in a slightly different way.

Good luck, it’s a difficult thing to put up with, and hopefully it’s only a temporary thing related to the pregnancy. 🙂

Charles asks…

Does anyone own an old-style siamese? Or believe in all-natural pet care?

I really like to plan ahead-this won’t be for at least a couple years, but I plan on getting two kittens when we live in a bigger place. I want to get the healthiest, longest lived ones possible with the lowest risk of FIP (I also have two healthy 16 year old god-knows-what cats) and all research points to old-style (i.e. applehead) lynx point siamese. From what I understand the old style are much healthier than wedge-heads and lynx points are even better because they also have mongrel-cat blood. They also have a pretty low risk of FIP. Please tell me about your experiance, and feel free to reccomend breeders. I am really into pet health-I do all organic and grain-free whenever possible and may consider raw for the new kitties, but my older ones can’t handle it (I tried) I also keep cats inside and go vaccine-free for all my indoor pets after initial baby shots. I won’t declaw (my current ones are spayed/declawed but I was three and didn’t get a vote) I also own an intact female 8 lb chihuahua/pomeranian mix and a spayed 7 year old ferret. I don’t believe in spaying unless specifically medically indicated because they hurt my Tigger’s throat when she was spayed and I’ve done research indicating the risks of spaying are greater than going intact, providing you’re responsible enough to prevent pregnancy. Sorry to make this so long, but just being specific in case there are special vaccine considerations or dietary specifications with Siamese, or in case Siamese should be spayed for some reason. Thanks
they will both be female and our reasons for wanting them are that we have seen how good kittens can be for older cats, and our puppy seems to need a friend too, but Tigger and Tabitha aren’t interested and we can’t really handle more than one dog. She loves cats though. Of course we have more than enough love to go around as well

Michelle answers:

No and yes.

Please interview breeders and take up to a year to find a good one and be on a waiting list. Consider adoption at least get to know some cats in rescue and do some volenteer work. There is nothgnin wrong with wanting a Responsible breeder and doing the proper leg work and putting in the proper time in finding one.

The risks of spaying do not outweight intact cats. As a matter of fact cats can die being in heat, die at giving birth, get FELV and FIV much more eaily if intact. Being intact cat is highly annnoying as well. Which is another reason I reccomend a rescue cat as it’s already done all this and there is nothing left to do but love them.

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Mark asks…

Does anybody have any natural remedies or tips on falling pregnant?

I have been trying for 5 years now with my husband, and we have both been tested for any problems why we couldn’t fall pregnant – and nothing has shown up.
We really only want to use IVF as a last resort.
Does anybody have any tips or stories that they can share with me.
Thanks in advance..
Sorry – I probably should have added that I am ovulating, and my husband does not have any problems with his sperm count.

Michelle answers:

Getting down to basics. When your husband climaxes, he then has to make sure that you have an orgasm after. The reflex action in your body literally dips into his sperm. So let him enjoy first, and that you climax after!!! Worked for me (3 times) and many friends who had waited and waited! Also, if he doesn’t wear boxer shorts as the norm, then he should! (wearing tight underpants reduces sperm count). Good luck!

Paul asks…

What would be the chances of a natural conception with a sperm count of 9 mill per ml?

and only 45% motility?

I’m guessing they’d be little more than zero and we’ve been told we’d need IVF with ICSI but we have no way of raising the £6,000 necessary for this.

Is there any point trying to do it naturally or do we just give up on ttc at this point?

Michelle answers:

My heart is with you! My OH has only 40% motility but he does have 24million per ml.
It only takes 1 swimmer though so you never know. I say keep trying as long as you can.
Xx

Laura asks…

My tubes are blocked at both ends, is there anything natural to take to help?

Had surgery and probably made the scarring worse. I`m blocked with scar tissue and only option i was told is IVF. Well I can`t afford this. And “clearpassage” is not affordable either. I know there is something else out there. I already have a child from previous marriage, so i know it`s possible.

Michelle answers:

Hi, my obgyn told me i had blocked tubes and sent me to a RE and he told me that i could have a surgery to open my tubes, or i could have IVF…
In Ontario, our health care covers most of the IVF procedure but the labs add in other costs where they still end up getting 3-4 thousand dollars out of you…
There is also a natural remedy called felopio that i have read about but waiting until i go to my new RE (for a second opinion)… This is the site for felopio http://www.felopio.com/
I have also heard great things about seeing an acupuncturist (sp?) although i have never been myself…. They are not too bad, about 70 dollars a visit…

Good luck to you!!

David asks…

i wanted to know about the compositioin of the culture media for IVF?

i want to know the nature of culture media in which doctors are placing the fertilized egg before transfering it in to mother womb.
either its origin is synthetic or natural.?????
if natural then it is derived from animals or plants????
pleae help me to get specifically clear answer.

thanks.

Michelle answers:

No, it is from the man sperm and woman’s egg. It is natural

What mammal has the shortest natural pregnancy?

Michelle answers:

Eastern Barred Bandicoot – just 12 days. Opossums come close, at between 12 and 14 days.

Nancy asks…

How common it is to find E-Coli in semen? How can it be eradicated? Can it hinder natural pregnancy?

Michelle answers:

WHO criteria lays down a count of 20 million good sperms as sufficient to have normal pregnancy. A couple is infertile only if pregnancy doesn’t occur after two years of unprotected consummation of marriage.

E. Coli is the most common organism for urinary infection and is not something to be scared of having. The most common cause of E. Coli infection in young females is sexual activity.

The most common cause of pus cells in semen is chronic prostatitis or seminal vesiculitis, a common affliction seen in upto 20% of the young population without many ill-effects.

You can use an antimicrobial agent to kill off the E.coli bacterium. New Silver Solution can do this easily, while not having any of the side-effects of antibiotics. In fact, antibiotics should never be used as a front-line cure for many infections as they can cause bacterial resistant strains to form.

You would need to take this solution for a period of about 3 months, the same time as an antibiotic treatment for eradication of E.coli.

E.coli can also cause respiratory tract and urinary tract infections. New Silver Solution has been proven to kill both at 2.5 ppm and 5 ppm respectively. (ppm = parts per million).

Happy New Year, I have a question about natural progesterone and pregnancy?

Okay my first m/c happenened in July and because I had low progesterone. I went and bought natural progesterone cream today and i want to see if it will enhance my progesterone production. My hubby and I do want to try to have a baby again. I just ovulated yesterday, so when I rub it in what happens? Do I use unitil my period starts or what? When should I stop taking it?? THanks guys.

Michelle answers:

I just answered your second question, but I thought I would add to this one that with progesterone cream, you insert it vaginally, like you would monistat cream for a yeast infection. Before doing this though, I would talk to your OBGYN about it. As I suggested in my answer to your 2nd question, your OB may have samples of a progesterone pill called Prometrium. I have used this after having a miscarriage and I now have a healthy baby girl. I am sorry for your loss. At least you know you can get pregnant and that you know why you miscarried so you can prevent it in the future. Best wishes to you.

Charles asks…

Natural treatment of thrush in pregnancy; anyone tried yoghurt?

I’ve had thrush for about 5 weeks, with varying severity of symptoms because I’ve been using clotrimazole (canasten) and even tried the pessary. The pessary stopped symptoms fully for about a week, but now its back.

Has anyone tried using natural, unsweetened yoghurt internally, as a treatment for thrush in pregnancy? And did it work?

Michelle answers:

I had terrible thrush when i was about 6 months pregnant, my mum told me to use yoghurt i looked at her like she was crazy! But i gave it a go, it seem to work really well and certainly cooled everthing down for for me! I want to bed with a huge pantliner like a tena lady and just put loads on and inside its stinks by the morning but it did help me!
I hope my advice works good luck and congratulations x

Your Questions About Oldest Age For Natural Pregnancy

Laura asks…

I have a male and female puppy and do not want to breed, but would like to avoid neuter or spay.?

We received two mixed breed puppies, a brother and sister, from an accidental pregnancy of a neighborhood dog. They are currently 9 weeks old. We do not want to breed them. We have had many dogs (these two new additions make 4, although I hate to say that our collie(13) may not be around for much longer). We have only owned females and do not know much about how to prevent mating, outside of neuter or spay. I would like to know if there are more natural ways to prevent the breeding, such as separating the dogs when the the female is in heat as I believe this is the most likely time it can happen. It is not that I am 100% against a procedure, I would just like to know all options. Also, at what age do I need to start worrying about them mating?
Thanks for all the input, it is clear that they are going to need to be fixed as all the other options are not realistic. Thanks for all the help and for most people not taking a condescending attitude and giving out a lecture.

-If I had all the answers, I wouldn’t ask the questions.

Michelle answers:

It *can* be done, but believe me, it is *not* worth the hassle, because it is a MAJOR hassle.

They will drive you nuts for about 3 weeks while the female is in season trying to get at each other. I mean totally, absolutely freaking NUTS! Some males scream 24/7. Or the females cry and carry on.

It only takes one “oops” and you have a litter of unwanted puppies. Dogs are incredibly resourceful when mother nature calls. Dogs have been known to breed through chain link fences. And there is no such thing as an “accidental” pregnancy — it is called being careless and irresponsible.

A neutered male makes a much better pet. He is more loving and devoted to *you* (instead of the cute female coming down the street), neutered males are less likely to lift their legs on place you’d prefer they don’t, and their chance of developing testicular cancer is zero.

A spayed female is also more loving to her family instead of being moody and hormone-driven. They will not “bleed” for 3 weeks twice a year, and their chance of developing mammary cancer (a real threat in older intact females) is zero.

A female can come in season as early as five months and seasons can be as frequent as every 4 to 5 months. A male is usually sexuallyl mature a little later — although he may have the equipment and the “urge” most males aren’t fertile (virile?) until they’re around 8 or 9 months.

A neuter operation is a very simple, practically non-invasive procedure. A spay is major surgery, but dogs recover incredibly quickly.

Maria asks…

Very sad! Can’t ttc anymore, for a while.?

🙁
As title says I have to put ttc on hold.

My daughter is 19mths old (almost) and apart from my miscarriage I haven’t successfully got pregs and have now to go back to work. Therefore I can’t risk going back and getting pregs soon after!

I am very sad as I wanted another child closer in age to D but it (perhaps) means she will be around 3yrs old when I can have another.
My sister (whos kids are 3yrs in age apart) says this can be a good thing. What do you think?

Also I am not sure about contraception. I have got used to letting my body be natural and don’t want to go back on the pill (hate condoms) so am wondering if I can risk avoiding pregnancy through avoiding my fertile days as opposed to bedding around them! After all, I don’t seem to be a person who gets pregnant easy! It took 16mths to concieve my daughter!!!
Any opinions or words of comfort welcome.

Michelle answers:

Hi GlowScarlet,

I used natural family planning to avoid pregnancy for 7 years, and then conceived, using that knowledge, the first month we tried.

William asks…

the standard for a 20 something lady?

I am 22 years old and to the shock of most:

1) I don’t look my age cause I rarely wear makeup
2) don’t were the lastest styles and don’t go crazy over the last thing
3) have only 3 purses ( even that seem like a lot to me)
4) still getting rid of shoes cause I think I should only have 3 to 5 shoes per season.
I walk out the house after just running a comb through my hair *gasp, how could i*which irritates my aunts who all say I have pretty hair why don’t I get it done more when they know I hate sitting in the salon listening to the female gossip and watching the stories *that’s like a punishment for me*. Don’t buy makeup cause I love my natural color and all the deep shades make me look lighter than what I am *ugh*.
I actually prefer to go my church during the week when I am not in school or can’t find a job and volunteer there (help keeping the big building clean) instead of going to a club and drinking and smoking and this was before I gotten pregnant so to them I really let myself go. How can I let them know that I am not trying to attract some guy (yes pregnant and single by a a lying douche bag who thought he could trap me with a pregnancy because he considered me to be a perfect wife for his barely making it self who couldn’t take a girl on a real date or get her anything he said he would or just keep his word and he was older supposed to be mature )
Everytime I do get dolled up (look the way people think I should with hair, makeup, purse and all the shit for a *dime piece* look) some fucking old ass man (60+ who looks like he is married) keeps approaching me like I want to be bother or like I want sex. And the dudes keep staring like that’s something they never seen when I feel like I look like every other girl.
Damn, I am completely happy when I walk out in a pair of a jeans, a simple shirt, no makeup, stuff I need in my pockets, no jewelry, and a plain pair of non designer sneakers hoping to not be approached, so why are they whining?
Do I need to get the work every 1 to 2 weeks when I only get my hair done once a month by a professional?
I am completely happy being plain and not drawing attention on the streets, is it a crime, lol.
Thank you for reading and sorry for it being long.
Oh I am using my phone to do this so I was placed in this section. Before I got pregnant, I wore that stuff and was I size 10-12, 5’6″ weighing at 150 lbs a 38 B and happy (when everyone around suffers from a Large C and Triple Ds). Now I am like a 40 C *damn it* and weigh like 175 and still they like you need to be all dolled up at 31 weeks when I have no patiences to do so.

Michelle answers:

Maybe they’re jealous because they have to spend so much time working on theirselves to be pretty. Hell, I don’t know. I’m like you though, I don’t spend that much time on my looks but I don’t look grungy or anything. I just have better things to do than to sit in the salon every other week.

George asks…

Should I take a ttc break, or just keep plugging on?

I am 34 years old. Two years ago, I found out I was pregnant (surprise)to have a loss at 12 weeks in May 2007. After waiting a few months, we ttc (with charting in August 2007) for 13 cycles and had 1-2 chemical pregnancies. Got checked and found out I had a bad tube that was washing away embryos Sept 2008 (abstained Sept, Oct, Nov and had surgery Nov 2008 to remove the tube). Immediately after the surgery I got pregnant in Dec to miscarry at 6 weeks Jan 2009. After one cycle, I then had another chemical pregnancy Mar 2009. This is now my 18th cycle TTC since the original loss, we abstained/missed for about 4 of those months, and had 3-4 types of pregnancies, all apparently with just one tube. Seems like when we get an egg on the right side we get pregnant, it’s just not sticking. The recurrent pregnancy loss panel came back OK, hubby’s sperm is fine, and I ovulate, I just have one tube and am getting old. Here’s the deal…… I’m supposed to start injections tonight for an IUI cycle – since my insurance covers them and they don’t have the side effects. I’m terrified to get pregnant and terrified to not get pregnant. I want to take a break, but I feel that age clock ticking away. Husband does not want to take a break, he is excited to have a family, and feels that my fears are natural, just have to beat them. The RE’s job is to get you preggo, so they are about to go full blast. Got the meds sitting on the counter, and really just want to run away. The sooner I get pregnanct, I get my life back. But also too scared to try naturally, because if I have another loss, I will wonder if close MD monitoring and hormone supplementation could have prevented it. What would you guys do? Go for it?

Michelle answers:

First of all sweetie, you ARE NOT OLD!!! There are women every day that have babies up into their 40s and 50s! It sounds to me like conception isn’t the problem, but possibly a hormone imbalance that prevents your uterine lining from being as nutrient rich and thick for the baby to burrow into. Usually the medications you receive from your GP for fertility at first are just hormones that your body produces naturally, so side effects are minimal, and dangers are VERY low! If your insurance covers them, what will it hurt? You are just discouraged right now. And no one can blame you with an ordeal like that to go through. Just meditate and pray to find what your heart desires, and if your husband cares for you (and it seems he does a great deal) you should be able to discuss your concerns and proceed from there. Unfortunately, loss is a part of life, but if you can get help to try and prevent it, the YES!! GO FOR IT!!! GOOD LUCK!! AND LOTS OF BABY DUST!!!!

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Mary asks…

my wife has just had a misscarage with ivf treatment she wants to try natural and maybe with another course of

treatment in the future she is 34 and will be 35 next year i will be 36 i panic that we are to old to have kids and angry we have left it to late do you think we still have a chance

Michelle answers:

No you are not. I’ll put you i my prayers to GOD.!!

Susan asks…

What is a natural supplement over the counter and safe to take during pregnancy to stay relaxed?

I am starting my 2nd process of IVF and this is the frozen cycle and I want to stay relaxed as possible. Just needing some ideas.

Michelle answers:

I know just what you are going through! I am about to do a frozen cycle too and doing everything I can to stay calm!

Bach Rescue Remedy is great for stress and will help you stay relaxed! It is safe during pregnancy as well. You can find it at a GMC store and many drugs stores carry it. It comes in a spray or drops. Also, I find red raspberry leaf tea to be relaxing. It is safe as well.

I highly recommend acupuncture. Doing acupuncture in conjunction increase your odds. Plus you can take herbs that will help you stay calm. I know from experience! My acupuncturist also gave me herbs to relax my uterus for transfer.

I do a few other things to keep me relaxed as well. I stock up on lavender soap, lotion, body wash, candles, and got some room mist. I find that scent really relaxing but you may have another your prefer.

Check out Anjionline.com http://www.anjionline.com/index.php It is a site just for fertility and she’s got some great meditation CD’s specifically for IVF.

Another thing you can do to keep you relaxed during transfer is to ask for some valium. It is safe and lots of women take it for transfer.

Sticky vibes!

Charles asks…

If a fertile couple undergo IVF, are they more likely to miscarry than if conception was natural?

Or is the low success rate of IVF down to the fact that the people who usually undertake it have fertility problems?

Michelle answers:

If a fertile couple does IVF the success rates are the same for those with infertility going through IVF depending on the diagnosis. A fertile couple has about a 50% chance of success with IVF where a infertile couple with no major issues has about a 50% chance of success. Many couples who undergo IVF are diagnosed with “unexplained infertility” They may have tried unsuccessfully to conceive without help even though they have no issues. These couples get pregnant just as often as those who are fertile. If there is severe male factor infertility, PCOS, hormonal imbalances like high FSH, advanced maternal age, or other major issues, than the infertile couples chance is not the same and they have a slightly higher rate of miscarriage.

Jenny asks…

How did you get pregnant? Natural? Clomid? IUI? IVF? How long did it take you?

My husband and I have been ttc for one year and 11 months. We have our first iui tomorrow morning. I hope we get pregnant!!!

Michelle answers:

Pre-Seed Lubricant!! We tried for 8 months, then heard about Pre-Seed. First month, nothing. Second month… Well, it’s a baby! Look it up. I HIGHLY recommend it!! Good Luck!!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Maria asks…

Natural Labor Induction While In Labor?

I am 37 weeks pregnant and have been in labor for 2 days, somewhat active labor with contractions 5 minutes apart and quite painful. I’ve never been a “strong” contractor and in past pregnancies I stalled out at 6 cent. and was given pitocin. This time I’m also pre-eclamptic all of a sudden with high protein in urine but blood pressure seemingly under control and they haven’t decided on induction or anything yet.

Besides various teas and sex, any ideas to speed up these contractions or dilation, I’m in great pain here and am pretty sure baby is ready just needs some help. Have been to hospital twice and sent home for ineffective contractions…

Michelle answers:

If you’re already getting contractions, you should try using a birthing ball. If the contractions aren’t having much effect it’ll get the babys head in the right spot to make them more effective. Just bounce lightly on one or sway back and fourth. It’s very comfortable, and you could do it while watching tv/etc.

It’s the same thing I have been trying. I’m 38 weeks pregnant and at every appt. There’s more progress (just slow progress!) I’m having the same thing (regular contractions that aren’t turning into active labor) I also got sent home, after having contractions 2 min apart for over 12 hours with little progress.

Hope it works for you!

By the way, if you don’t have a birthing ball you can pick one up inexpensively from just about any store, such as target/walmart/rite aid/etc It would be in the area with exercise equipment.

Laura asks…

How to keep patient at the end of your pregnancy…? I’m trying for a natural labor and need suggestions..?

I don’t want to be induced, my doctor and I have worked out a plan together to keep my blood pressure down and avoid induction [she’s an angel]

I really want a natural labor, I want to go into labor on my own, and I want to have the entire experience… I’m looking for suggestions from mothers who have been there.

I have not been through child birth classes, and I’m 37 weeks pregnant.

My biggest fear right now is when I get to that miserable point in my pregnancy and they suggest induction I’ll end up caving in and going for it. I really don’t want that though. How did you fight off that uncontrollable need to have your baby in your arms..?

Michelle answers:

You sound like you are well on your way to becomming a wonderful mother 🙂
You may or may not get to the “miserable” point in your pregnancy. I never did! A good thing to keep in mind though, if you do get to that point, is that you are letting your baby choose his/her birthday. You are giving your baby an awesome gift by letting nature take its course… Every day baby is inside of you is best for your baby until he/she decides to come on their own.

I suggest you eat 80-100g of protein a day to keep your b/p under control. Calcium will also help, as well as taking cayenne pepper capsules and garlic capsules. Gentle exercise will also help. Www.blueribbonbaby.com
Edit:
I wanted to add; if this is your first baby, being induced increases the chance you will have a c-section by 50%… Yes, FIFTY percent. Also, *if* if comes down to being induced (which it very well shouldn’t!), make sure you research the method of inducement your doc wants to use. Cytotec is NOT safe, and should NEVER BE USED to induce labor. Period. It is not FDA approved for induction, and has caused many women’s uterus to rupture, babies to die, and mothers to die or have a hysterectomy. Many docs are using this now because it is much much cheaper for them than the alternatives.

Good luck.

Linda asks…

Discouraged with Pregnancy…..Labor/Induction?

Well I went to the doctors on Thursday for my weekly apt. I am at 40wks and nothing has changed! I am 100% effaced and still only dialated a fingertip. I have been this way for 3wks now. I wanted to go into labor on my own but because I am not progessing and if I dont go into labor by next saturday ( 4/12 ) I will be induced that day. They dont want me going past 41wks. This just makes me so fusterated. Now I am getting scared. (First Pregnancy Jitters!?!)

What’s it like to get induced? Will I be fine getting induced if I have never felt the real thing? How do they induce you? Is there anything else I can do on my own to progess myself with natural labor?

Any advice or words of encouragement or what to expect or what not to expect?

Thank You to everyone who answers and shares their experiences and advice with me. It will be greatly appreciated.

Michelle answers:

I think its important for people to realise that 40 weeks just *isn’t* statistically the average duration of a healthy Caucasian woman’s non-induced pregnancy. It’s just a handily neat figure that people have been working with for decades, based on information that has IMO been proven outdated and incorrect.

Note that “due dates” are notoriously unreliable. 3.6% of women give birth on the date suggested by LMP, and 4.7% on the date predicted by ultrasound. So, having a “dating” ultrasound isn’t significantly increasing your chance of predicting when you’re due, and in both cases, over 95% of babies (not including c/s scheduled babies) will *not* be born on their “due date”. It’s a rough guess, not a guaranteed prediction.

Here’s some very interesting info: 1st pregnancies tend to last longer than subsequent pregnancies, and both first and subsequent pregnancies are longer than most doctors predict using Naegele’s rule (which says that pregnancies last 280 days from last menstrual period – 40 weeks exactly).

Here’s the abstract for “The length of uncomplicated human gestation”, by Mittendorf et al, published in Obstet Gynecol. 1990 Jun;75(6):929-32.

“By retrospective exclusion of gestations with known obstetric complications, maternal diseases, or unreliable menstrual histories, we found that uncomplicated, spontaneous-labor pregnancy in private-care white mothers is longer than Naegele’s rule predicts. For primiparas, the median duration of gestation from assumed ovulation to delivery was 274 days, significantly longer than the predicted 266 days (P = .0003). For multiparas, the median duration of pregnancy was 269 days, also significantly longer than the prediction (P = .019). Moreover, the median length of pregnancy in primiparas proved to be significantly longer than that for multiparas (P = .0032). Thus, this study suggests that when estimating a due date for private-care white patients, one should count back 3 months from the first day of the last menses, then add 15 days for primiparas or 10 days for multiparas, instead of using the common algorithm for Naegele’s rule.”

So what does this mean, in plain English? That healthy white women with healthy babies, left to birth their babies without the interference of induction of labour, will tend to give birth *after* 40 weeks. A first baby will tend to be born at 41 weeks 1 day (from LMP), and second and subsequent babies will tend to be born a little earlier, at around 40 weeks 3 days. NOT AT 40 WEEKS!

When you realise the “40 weeks” guesstimate is just that – a wild guess based on antique studies done decades ago, not allowing for variation in the length of women’s cycles, or the influence of race*, how many children they’ve had, or their health status, or how few women birth on their “due date” anyway, then you’ll come to see just how appalling it is that women are pressured to undergo induction (medical or natural).

(*There’s small variations in pregnancy length for different races, though some of this variation may be due to differing standards of health or care provided, e.g. Pregnancy care provided to black women in America is typically poorer quality [for whatever reasons] than that provided to white women).

So, if you’re having your first baby, and you’re a week overdue, that’s *NORMAL*, and you’re not in fact really overdue at all.

The statistics on having your baby overdue being “risky” only starts to go up significantly after *2 weeks* “overdue” (past 40 weeks), and only really climbs dramatically after *3 weeks* overdue. 1 week is almost always perfectly fine.

Do some research for yourself! You’ll see its true.

My advice is to refuse induction – just say no.

If you go ahead with an induction, be prepared for a higher level of painful contractions, and a greatly increased risk of ending up with a c section.

If you want to look at natural methods of induction (which I wouldn’t advise until after 42 weeks, but hey, its up to you in the end), I’ve put some links below to some good websites on this topic. Also, some links to info on risks of inductions.

Thomas asks…

37 weeks and she wants induction as natural as possible?

I have a friend who is due 1 day before me. She will be 37 weeks tomorrow. Her midwife is wanting to induce her due to heart stress. at 38 weeks. I know of sex and walking, but how many of you tried it at 37 weeks and have it work? Her midwife wanted to induce her tomorrow, but she begged for a chance to induce herself and was given until her next appointment next week to do it, or the midwife will. My friend also just had a baby in late January, so there’s the chance she’ll have the baby a tad bit early anyways… does that at all help her chances of using sex and walking to induce? Is her cervix still weak from the last pregnancy? And would it be enough to help her with this induction? Even though we’re the same gestation, I can’t help her at all!

Michelle answers:

They say walking and sex but I don’t think it really works. I’m 37 weeks and I went to the doctor today and he’s talking about inducing me next week!

I’m sure as soon as that baby is ready he or she will come.

And if it doesn’t come soon enough the doctor will just have to do it.

Surrogacy: what do you think of the court decision?

The surrogate mother has been allowed to keep the baby and this is the article

Surrogate mother who changed her mind is allowed to keep baby

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 12:40 AM on 22nd January 2011

A surrogate mother who had a baby girl for a couple, but changed her mind about handing her over, has been allowed to keep her.

A judge made the groundbreaking decision when he ruled that the welfare of the six-month-old child, known only as T, ‘requires her to remain with her mother’.

Mr Justice Baker told a hearing in Birmingham: ‘In my judgment, there is a clear attachment between mother and daughter. To remove her from her mother’s care would cause a measure of harm. It is the mother who, I find, is better able to meet T’s needs, in particular her emotional needs.’

The judge said the risks of entering into a surrogacy agreement are ‘very considerable’.

He added: ‘In particular, the natural process of carrying and giving birth to a baby creates an attachment which may be so strong that the surrogate mother finds herself unable to give up the child.’

He said the mother met the couple, Mr and Mrs W, over the internet in 2009 and agreed informally that the mother would be inseminated by Mr W, and hand the baby over after the birth.

During the pregnancy, however, the mother, who has two older children, changed her mind, and at T’s birth refused to hand over the baby as agreed.

After Mr and Mrs W wed in 2005, they tried unsuccessfully to have a baby themselves, which led them to consider surrogacy.

It was agreed that the mother would act as a surrogate for the Ws, using Mr W’s sperm, and she became pregnant, but at some point during the pregnancy, relations between the parties deteriorated.

The child was born on July 16, and Mrs W went to the hospital, but says she was made to feel unwelcome by the mother’s friends and family members. Her husband began legal moves a week later, and another judge appointed a woman as the child’s guardian.

Mr Justice Baker said: ‘At the date of the hearing before me, T was five months old. The evidence from the guardian is that she is thriving in her mother’s care.’

The judge said he did not believe that Mr and Mrs W or the mother had told him the whole truth about a number of matters. However he had formed the clear impression that each was devoted to the child.

He was concerned about the mother’s behaviour, including that at one point she had adopted a false persona to elicit information from the Ws.

He also found she had falsified a document and lied to the court about it.

But he did not believe she had deliberately set out to deceive the Ws from the outset.

As for the Ws, the judge was concerned about their involvement with a woman known to them initially as D but more widely, including to the police and social services in Scotland, as CL.

Mrs W said she came across CL via an internet chatroom. CL told her that she was a victim of domestic violence, and Mrs W felt sympathy for her and offered her refuge. CL stayed at the Ws’ home for about a fortnight.

However the guardian had made some inquiries and there were allegations that she is a prostitute and surrogate parent.

The judge found that the Ws had misled the court about how they got in touch with CL and that Mrs W came across her via a surrogacy website.

‘It was wholly irresponsible of the Ws to invite her into their home, and the fact that they have no awareness of this risk is alarming.’

The judge also found Mrs W had told the mother that Mr W had been violent to her on one occasion, and that both Mr and Mrs W had concealed the truth about the incident to the court.

He was also concerned about their ‘startling lack of insight’ as to the child’s needs and the difficulties that might arise if she were to be moved to their care immediately at the end of the hearing, as they proposed.

The judge ordered a review hearing for next month to see how matters have progressed, and gave leave to the guardian to tell the local authority about the case. There will be ‘interim visiting contact’ between the father and the child until the hearing, to be arranged by the guardian.
@June ~ British surrogate mothers can only legally claim out of pocket expenses such as if loss of wages due to pregnancy, any medical treatment she may have to pay for. It is illegal to profit from surrogacy here so any legitimate expenses don’t have to be paid back.
@7rin ~ Thank you for posting the link

Michelle answers:

But those same courts won’t return children to their biological parents after they were wrongfully removed from their parents by social services (and even after it was proven and admitted they were wrongfully removed), for the ‘benefit’ of the child?! How is this case for a double standard? The mind boggles.

** ETA: I do believe the judge made the right decision. I’m also of the opinion that Mr W should have visitation rights, since T is his too … So a co-parenting agreement needs to be reached between the surrogate and Mr W. Both biological parents should be involved in the child’s life IMO.

Sharon asks…

Abortion, successful men and women, who would you save?

You have been successful in Texas. (Or your own state)
You want to help other people.
You don’t like abortion, but you don’t like other innocent people to die either. Here are the facts you have to work with:
1.There will be more than 78 thousand abortions in Texas next year. You as a citizen want there to be fewer abortions, so this is an area where you might invest some time and money. You determine that from pregnancy to birth to post birth the cost to help one mother is about 10 thousand dollars to do it right. And the odds of being successful from the point of conception changes with time. Up to the first 8 weeks only 30 percent of fetuses will survive due to natural abortion. After that the chance of success is much greater with at least 70 percent success at 28 weeks and up to 90 percent thereafter. The benefit of attempting to stop the abortion is that you save a life and all that entails for every year until the child dies. The cost is that the investment is risky in that he fetus could die, it will require an investment of 10k birth expense and 10K other expense the first year and 10 k a year until the child is 18 years old. Failure to invest properly by yourself or others will lead to possible suffering.
2.There are 900 thousand years of potential lost life in Texas each year. You as a citizen don’t want people to suffer and die needlessly and you especially don’t want parents to die that have children. You do not want women that are carrying fetuses with the intention of giving birth to have their fetuses die. And you don’t want the elderly to suffer and die needlessly. The risk is that with such a large pool of people that will die, choosing the right person to save will be very difficult. And it is difficult to determine which people can or cannot be saved. Some can be saved relatively inexpensively simply by furnishing an inexpensive medical procedure, others will require very expensive medical procedures. Some will benefit simply from improved safety measures and some will benefit for general health care and advice regarding a healthy life style. Some of those saved will cause a very wide return on your investment due to the fact that you may save a pregnant woman or a productive member of a family. Costs will range from 80k to save a person with a heart problem to a few dollars to furnish medication. There is a wide range of possible places to invest money and time and therefore you can easily choose to spend a little on one or a lot on another. The up side of the investment is that you will save more lives by choosing your investments wisely or you may choose to save a fetus and encounter the same cost as saving a potentially aborted fetus.
3.No matter what you do, you cannot save a large fraction of the 78 thousand aborted fetuses or a large fraction of the 900 thousand early lives lost.

For this year, what do I do? Do I help one fetus at 20 thousand dollars or do I help save 20 children that need a thousand dollars worth of medication each to survive? Is it moral for me to save the one fetus that may die or must I save the 20 children that would die without their medication? Please give a detailed explanation.
Edit: Agent smith
Thanks for giving credit when it is due. I am glad that you understand that wasting time when saving lives ends up costing life. I assume that you still are pro life and will let the 20 innocent children die. If not please let me know.
Edit: an earthly hope
I assume your answer means you are pro life and will let the 20 innocent children die and save the fetus. If not please let me know.

Michelle answers:

I believe that an abortion is a woman’s choice.. Not the choice for me, but I am not in any way shape or form to say what or what someone else should not do in regards to this topic.

Have a good one!!

2. There are 900 thousand years of potential lost life in Texas each year.
3. No matter what you do, you cannot save a large fraction of the 78 thousand aborted fetuses or a large fraction of the 900 thousand early lives lost.

For this year, what do I do? Do I help one fetus at 20 thousand dollars or do I help save 20 children that need a thousand dollars worth of medication each to survive? Is it moral for me to save the one fetus that may die or must I save the 20 children that would die without their medication? Please give a detailed explanation.
edit fight fan:
OK now I understand, it is not murder to kill 20 people who are sick, including pregnant women, your friends and your mother, but it is murder to kill a fetus.
Edit: brian and brown
Someone pays the 20k or the kid suffers or dies. You can force the woman to pay (fat chance) or the public to pay, but you better believe someone will pay.
So I am putting you down for letting the 20 kids die and saving the fetus.

Michelle answers:

Easy, you help the kid. It won’t cost anywhere near $20,000 to prevent a single abortion. The vast majority are done for convenience and most of those mothers need no subsidy from the government to see their pregnancy go to term..

BTW both embryos and fetuses are classified as stages of life by the scientific community and that is human life in humans, it is not just the Catholic Church..

Babies do not end up in foster care. They are adopted faster than they are born. Older kids may end up in those homes but babies are in high demand..

Steven asks…

I’d rather die than be pregnant, why do I feel this way?

I’m an adult, a young one, but still an adult. When I was younger I liked the idea of growing up. getting married and starting a family, but ever since I had a pregnancy scare the whole idea of being pregnant makes me feel physically ill. I do want a family when I’m older, but I find pregnancy really scary and sorry to say this but disgusting. Just because it’s natural does not mean it’s beautiful, taking a poop is natural and that’s not beautiful is it?

I live in a country where abortion is illegal if I wanted one i’d have to fly to another country and it would cost over 1000 for the whole thing. I don’t really agree with abortion, or at least I didn’t until I thought I was pregnant.

I’m currently in college studying and I have about 3 years till I get my degree, if I had a baby I couldn’t afford college, would have to miss a lot of classes because of pregnancy etc

I hate that this pregnancy scare has made me so against pregnancy, the fact that I can’t get an abortion in this country even if my own life is threatened or I’m raped makes me feel sick too.

I can’t fully explain how I feel, it’s like suddenly realizing that I am not in control of my own reproductive organs has made me absolutely hate something I once thought was a precious thing.

I have to have sex, anyone who suggests “just don’t have sex until marriage” has obviously never lived in the 21st century as a 20 something year old.

I want a baby in the future, but I want one when I say it’s okay, when I have a steady job and can look after it and when I actually WANT IT.

I don’t want my first child to be a product of rape, or to be born and have me die right afterwards because I shouldn’t have carried a baby to full term in my health and I certainly do not want my first child to be an accident that I don’t want, can’t afford to look after that will force me to drop out of college and ruin my career before it’s even begun.

Even thinking about, or seeing pregnant women makes me feel nervous and sick, I dunno whats wrong with me??

Also I feel very scared to have sex with my partner now, so much so that sometimes he can’t even have sex with me if I want it because I tighten up completely and we just can’t do it.

Michelle answers:

I recommend you look into getting on some kind of birth control until you are ready for babies, It is understandable to think having a baby is gross and being afraid, I mean its not exactly the easiest thing to go through, and it can be pretty gross. Just get on some kind of birth control until you are ready, there are many kinda, like the shot, the pill, and the 2 kinds that insert inside you.

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Joseph asks…

How To Get Pregnant In A Natural Way?

Hi, me and my partner have been trying for a very long time to get pregnant without success. We can’t afford IVF and anyway feel there must be a natural way of achieving this? Can anyone suggest any ideas/resources for us. Thanks

Michelle answers:

Hi, in most cases where people are having trouble conceiving you need to change your lifestyle. Do you both work lots? Have lots of stress in your life? Do you eat well? Stressing about not being able to get pregnant makes it harder too.

You always hear the stories about people who have tried everything, even IVF and failed and then once they give up they fall pregnant! You hear this all the time. It’s about letting go.

You can conceive naturally but you’ll need to maybe make a drastic change to your lifestyle and attitude.

Check out my blog article below for 5 tips on how to get pregnant naturally. It also has some further links for useful detailed resources on how to get pregnant.

Good luck.

Nancy asks…

Have human beings brought the end to natural selection?

Have concepts such as IVF and general medicines brought about the end of Darwin’s great revolution? We have progressed into a state where we simply select ourselves…leaving natural selection as a forgotten idea.
What do you all reckon?

Michelle answers:

Medical advances and our abilities to protect ourselves have led to a reduction in deaths that might otherwise reduce the incidence of certain genes in the population. People with these genes survive long enough to have children.

On the other hand we are getting better at detecting certain genes and parents may decide not to have a baby with one of them, or want a baby with certain characteristics. This can be dangerous because of our imperfect knowledge of how genes work. As an example of one we do know about, the sickle cell trait, if you inherit it from just one person you are better protected against malaria than someone who does not have it. Unfortunately if you inherit it from both parents you get sickle cell anaemia. If we were to eliminate the sickle cell gene people would end up less protected against malaria.

Morally where should we draw the line? In some cultures boys are favoured over girls. Should parents be able to choose the sex of their child? What imbalances would this lead to?

When a scientist discovered how to make human growth hormone (which previously was in short supply) he got bombarded with calls, not from parents with unusually short children, but from parents with average children who wanted them to be tall.

Things like intelligence are very hard to determine genetically at the moment. But there was a web site offering for sale sperm from Nobel prize winners. Should people be allowed to buy genetic material like that? Should people be allowed to sell their genetic material?

These cases suggest that people will make use of such things if they are allowed to. Currently someone’s name can give you a clue as to how old they are as names go in and out of fashion. Perhaps in the future certain shapes of body will come into fashion and go again (influenced by popular stars as names are at the moment.)

There is a danger that we select ourselves to much. There are problems already with farmers growing a limited number of strains of some plants. If a new disease emerges that a common strain is vulnerable to, crops can fail on a massive scale. In the past when farmers grew more strains, only a few farmers would be affected as only one strain would fail and not many farmers grew it. Nowadays vast amounts of food production can be damaged at once.

Hope that gives you something to think about. Sorry it is a bit pessimistic.

Chris asks…

IVF costs, ways to pay, and experiences w/ IVF from people who have had natural miscarriages.?

First let me start by saying I have had 4 miscarriages, all withint 9 weeks gestation. Reproductive endocrynologist saw me after the 4th, did every test under the moon (blood tests, hormone screens, hystosalpinogram, chromosome analysis of both spouse and I, ultrasound, etc). EVERYTHING was within range/normal EXCEPT my AMH blood test was high and I had a lot of follicles on my ovaries, which they said both are associated with PCOS, but NO HORMONE issues.

Anywho… currently I am on birth control to destimulate my ovaries. Dr’s want to do this, then have me try again. If I conceive before my ovaries hyperstimulate again, they will monitor me closely to make sure other issues arent coming in to play after conceiving for the pregnancy.

Dr. said I would be a good candidate for IVF, shared risk. Cost is $18-26K but we would be given up to 6 tries to bring a baby home from the hospital or we would get a 75% refund.

My questions are… has anyone out there had miscarriages for similar reasons as me and tried IVF? If so, what were your experience?

Are there ways to pay other than taking out a loan (like grants etc) available? If the couple doesnt have the money saved yet?

What were your own costs, experiences, and outcome (especially for couples who conceived in the past but went IVF for similar reasons as mine)

My husband and I are debating on following through and doing this option, saving for adoption and just adopting, or saving for adoption and try on our own and see what happens next go round.

With shared risk programs, if for example I concieve the first 3 tries and miscarry all 3 tries, am I stuck having to do all 6 tries before getting a refund? Or, if it looks like things are stacked against me to carry to term they will give up and refund my money (like if they determine I had bad eggs after cultivating them, etc, or similar).

I want to try IVF, but I dont want to miscarry 6 more times trying, know? So any sincere advice/stories/guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Michelle answers:

First off, let me say how sorry I am for your losses.

Do make certain you have had every test under the moon before proceeding. I thought that my RE tested me for everything yet I wasn’t. Three losses later, I asked for further immune testing and found I have compound heterozygous MTHFR, and test positive for anticardiolipin antibodies. Here is a comprehensive list of some testing to do http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/miscarriage/rpl.html Also, Dr. Beer was the pioneer for doing immune testing for women who are TTC via IVF and naturally. Check out his book “Is Your Body Baby Friendly” and his website http://www.repro-med.net/repro-med-site2/ You can find a wealth of information on his website. Do know that women higher AMH values will tend to have better response to the stimulation medications making more eggs giving you a higher success rate. Another book to check out just because I think it is great is “The Infertility Cure” by Randine Lewis. She has helped many women conceive before starting IVF. Just make sure you have done all the testing you need to do!

Talk to your RE about using a low-dose aspirin, Lovenox protocol. Low dose aspirin is an easy fix for many unknown recurrent pregnancy loss issues. I am prescribed a low-dose aspirin/Lovenox combo if I do conceive for my immune issues, as well as Folgard for my MTHFR. Hopefully that is the trick for me.

I do have a good friend who had similar issues as yours. She had 5 miscarriages and no explanation. She had every test available and nothing came up. Our RE (I met her at my clinic) put her on low dose aspirin her next IVF cycle. Her twins will be 1 in July.

As someone who has gone through 4 IVF cycles, and one frozen transfer, I encourage you to get into the Shared Risk program if you can. I was not able to. Other than loans, there are a few companies that do offer help to a selected few. Here is the link to those, http://www.nobabyonboard.com/options.html. I have a contact that has a great answer for those asking for financial help. I’ll star your question and hopefully she chimes in.

I took out a loan for my first cycle and then just dug deep in pocket for the others. Do ask for donated meds from your clinic. I got $500 worth of med for one cycle. Shop around for meds you have to pay for. I love ivpcare.com and freedomdrug.com. They are the cheapest aside from ivfmeds.com that are in Europe. I know a few who have bought from there and they swear by them.

Our first IVF cycle was $9,700 not including meds, ICSI, or cryostorage of embryos or sperm. My meds for one cycle costs about $2,500. Your meds will depend on your dose. I am on high doses and need lots so pay more than some pay. I stayed at the same clinic for additions cycles and those are $8,800 each not including meds.

As for Shared Risk, you can drop out of the program between cycles for any reason. Here is a link to their website
http://www.integramed.com/corpinmdweb/content/cons/shared.jsp

Hope this helps! Please take care of yourself!

Steven asks…

Any natural ways to increase fertility?

They cancelled my first IVF cycle. I want to start a second cycle but I need to know. Has anyone tried natural ways to increase their fertility and did it work?

Michelle answers:

To be honest since my mother is an herbologist she has some people that she sugested to take Solaray Fertility Blend SP-1 and Red Raspberry Leaves. Mom said that 5/8 people she reccomended it to got pregnant within the 2nd cycle of trying. I listened to her as well, and am taking the same thing. I wont know the results for another 9 days 🙁 since I am 5DPO. But I will keep everyone posted! I do have cycts on my ovaries which is common for my family BUT my mother did get pregnant of an herb called Damiana, which is made in Mexico it is in the Fertility Blend I am taking. It is a natural known herbal remedy to increase fertility. It worked for my mom as she took it for 1 month and got pregnant with both my brothers off it.

Good Luck And Babydust to you! Hope this helps!
