Michelle answers:

If you’re pregnant, you better check up on what they do .. Have u heard of an epidural?

Maria asks…

How do you feel about your children reading mature books in High school?

Well today for homework were supposed to pick a book off a list for a project.Well i decided to look up some of the books and heres a quote:

Recreational heterosexual and homosexual sex is an integral part of society. In this egalitarian society, everyone is treated equally. According to The World State, sex is a social activity rather than a means of reproduction and is encouraged from early childhood; the few women who can reproduce are conditioned to take birth control. The maxim “everyone belongs to everyone else” is repeated often, and the idea of a “family” is considered taboo; sexual competition and emotional, romantic relationships are rendered obsolete because they are no longer needed. Marriage, natural birth, parenthood, and pregnancy are considered too obscene to be mentioned in casual conversation. Thus, society has advanced to a new level of reproductive comprehension.

Personally i could take it because im not immature but im wondering how would you feel about your teen reading a book like this?
Hey the name of the book is

Brave New World
I just put that quote so you would know the kind of views and could understand what i was talking about.

It wasnt shocking at all to be honest because it basically true.

Michelle answers:

I would encourage it if the book is well written. I believe I’ve read the book you’re talking about. There’s a difference between reading a book that’s pornographic for the sake of being pornographic and reading a book that discusses how society handles sex (in this case it’s hypothetical). Let’s face it, pornography has become a cultural norm. (I.e. Most parents don’t seem to care if their kids have access to it.) The media is hypersexualized. There’s very little real discussion of the role of sex within society. That’s why I disagree with allowing access to pornography and I disagree with how the media presents things, while at the same time promoting reading these types of books. We need dialogue and discussion, not a follower mentality.

Once a child reaches the age of 12 or 13, it’s important to give them things that engage their critical thinking skills concerning ethics and society.

Charles asks…

What do people when they say our kids need better sex education?

When I was kid, we learned these things in sex ed in grade school I believe:

Pregnancy is the natural result of having sex.

– You can get STDs from sex.

– Condoms, when used properly, greatly reduce the chance of becoming pregnant and diminish the chance of contracting certain STDs, and prevent others.

– Birth control pills, spermicides, etc. are available to lessen the chance of pregnancy.

– “Pulling out” is risky and stupid.

– There are morning after pills you can take.

– The only way to 100% guarantee you will not become pregnant is to not have sex or get yourself sterilized, or have a partner who has been sterilized.

—–

So, my question is what else do people think kids need to learn in school? If that isn’t enough for a kid, then, IMO, that kid is a dumbass and I’m not sure additional education would even help. What else do the kids need? And if parents are worried that their kids are not getting enough sex education, why don’t they teach them themselves or buy them a book about it?

What I learned seemed enough. I never got knocked up like a moron, and all my male peers knew what condoms were.

Are they teaching kids differently today, or are kids just more stupid/lazy and don’t care?
@Twimmie

“I graduated in 2006 and all we learned was abstience is the only safe method to prevent pregnancy and stds,”

It is the safest method. No lies here. No one who practices abstinence gets pregnant. 😉

“we were taught pulling out is stuid and risky, condoms are very likey to break and will not prevent some stds,”

Pulling out is stupid and risky. Condoms can break and do not always prevent you from getting some STDs. While I disagree that condoms are “very likely” to break, they can.

“and we didn’t even cover other types of birth control. It’s no wonder I got pregnant at 15”

No one prevented you from picking up a book or using Google in case you weren’t sure about something. You were free to ask your parents about birth control. If they didn’t let you have it and you had sex anyway and got pregnant, that is still your fault. No one forced you to spread your legs, don’t blame others for your stupidity. Unless you were raped, its YOUR fault you got pregnant
I thought showing kids what it is like to have to care for a kid would help with stuff, but now that minors can get abortions without parental consent, it wouldn’t help since if they get pregnant they can just abort.

I guess I just don’t understand why parents are not teaching their children about sex if its such a big issue.

If I felt my kid wasn’t learning enough about math, I wouldn’t just let them continue learning nothing and bitch to the school about it. I’d teach them about math on my own time.

Michelle answers:

We are limited to what we can teach, and many parents don’t want their kids to participate in Sex Ed classes.

On the one hand we are told that we don’t have enough Sex Ed in School and at other times we have Parents complaning that there is too much.

Us teachers have to try and find a balance that suits everyone, which is really difficult.

Paul asks…

Question for people who oppose gay marriage for religious reasons..?

Here is a hypothetical scenario for you:

In a world far away from this one, called Khaosi, being gay is actually the norm, whereas heterosexuality is seen as “abnormal”. And by some people, it is even seen as “disgusting”..

Everybody is supposed to fall in love with people of the same gender. Natural, unplanned pregnancies are considered “barbaric” by the vast majority. Kids are created in laboratories instead, or women get inseminated, if indeed they want that. (Which most don’t.)

In Khaosi, the majority of the people are theists. They have a goddess called Adriliana, who they worship seven times a day. Adriliana has, supposedly, left them a book 5000 years ago, which she wrote herself before she burst into flames and ascended up into heaven, never to be heard from again.. This book, which is called The Adrilia, is NOT updated as time passes by. And no matter how absurd it might sound to you, some people actually take it 100 % literally and base their lives around it..

There has been debates in Khaosi lately, about whether or not straight people should be able to marry, and should be treated as regular human beings.. Straight people are in support of the idea, of course. And so are their friends, families and allies. Others have not yet decided where they stand on this issue.

But the followers of Adriliana, who are in the majority, are virulently opposed to the idea! Why..? Because in The Adrilia, Chapter 98, verse 976, it says this:

“Heterosexuals are wretched, immoral people, and they are to be treated as such. In the name of our one and only goddess Adriliana, they are NOT to be given any rights, and they deserve whatever persecution they get.”

Adriliana’s followers actually choose NOT to question this rule!! It is in the Adrilia, and that is enough for them. Even though no one has ANY evidence of Adriliana actually existing..

Some of the heterosexuals, and also people from the vast homosexual majority, are atheists. They don’t believe in Adriliana, or in any other gods for that matter, and they cannot for the life of them fathom why the Adrilia should be accepted in society, and even used as a tool to discriminate others solely based on religion!

So now I just want to ask:
Can you? Can YOU understand it?! If you were a heterosexual person living in Khaosi, would you put up with this?!?!? No matter if you believed in Adriliana or not, can you seriously say you would think people should follow the Adrilia blindly, and use it to deny you your basic human rights?! Why? Why not? Please explain to me….

Michelle answers:

Marriage is about love, and love was Jesus primary message. I think it would be cruel of God to make a person homosexual so they fall in love with someone of the same sex, and then say that if they deny that love, they will burn in Hell.

No, God doesn’t care who another person marries, as long as there is love.

And to you guys who are against same-sex marriage? If its legalized, it doesn’t mean you are required to marry someone of the same gender.

Your Questions About Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Linda asks…

Pregnancy, Pcos and just plain old frustrated Nurse OBGYN please?

I found out that I have PCOS about 11 years ago after on and off periods, thankfully six years ago now I became pregnant with my son. He was born premature at six months and as of today nobody has a definite answer as to why. I do have periods that come regular at times and then back to the old once every three months. I am now 31 and totally ready to have another one I am beyond frustrated at this point so here is some details and would love some feedback.

We have used no Birth Control since I have had my son (6 years ago)

I have tried Rasberry Tea and Chaste berry tea both helped bring the period back

I am desperately trying to not go on a hormone replacement therapy so is there something else I should try?? Natural approach???

Do you still ovulate even when you don’t have a period??

My last menstral cycle started on 4/20/11 we had intercourse every other day until May 10th I have had no period yet and two preggo test came back negative.

If all else fails I am planning on going to the doctor sometime in July for some extra help, but please if you know of anything that I should try before then please respond.

Michelle answers:

The most important thing when trying to conceive is TIMING. You must track your ovulation and have sex in the days before, day of, and a day after. Even doing so, humans only have a 20-25% chance of conceiving, so the odds are stacked against us anyway.

I can’t speak to any natural methods to regulate your period as I’ve never tried any but I do know that ovulation occurs about 14 days before your period. If you are not having a period for 3 months at a time, then you’re not ovulating during that time…..only about 14 days before your period arrives. This makes tracking ovulation very difficult, but I always had irregular periods and I found that charting my temperature really helped.

The other possibility is that there is some issue causing you (as a couple) to be infertile. Blocked tubes, hormone imbalance, fibroids, cysts, poor sperm quality, etc. If you have not been using birth control for 6 years and have not fallen pregnant in that time, you really should see your doctor soon – at the very least for a fertility work up to see if there is some barrier to you conceiving. Just because you have successfully conceived in the past doesn’t mean that things can’t change. Secondary infertility is quite common.

Good luck!

Mandy asks…

My rabbit has made a nest of hair for her false pregnancy. To avoid woolblock, how soon do I remove the nest?

My 8-9 month old indoor female rabbit has been building a nest of her stomach hair and grass. She has never been around a buck, so I’m assuming a false pregnancy. Tonight I noticed hair sticking out of her mouth and when I pulled on it, a large wad of hair came out! Three large wads later her mouth was cleared out. I’ve never had a rabbit before and I’m afraid she’ll choke on it or get a woolblock. I give her plenty of natural hay and Timothy hay cubes, but I’m terrified of woolblock. I’ve read numerous things that mentioned not leaving her hair lying around, so how soon after she’s passed the false pregnancy do I leave her hair lying around in her cage? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Do I keep pulling the hair out of her mouth when its just sitting in there?

Michelle answers:

Throw away the hair. Inspect the rabbit. Sometimes losing hair doesn’t just mean she’s pregnant, it means that she can also get affected by mites and bugs.

Lisa asks…

Any good tummy tightening tips for a new mom?

My second child is 4 months old now and I would like to start toning up my tummy. My first baby was a c-section but this birth was natural so I have recovered alot faster and gone down to 111lbs from 145lbs. (I was 108lbs before pregnancy)
After my first baby I did pilates which I really enjoyed, but I have recently moved abroad and can’t find any reasonably priced classes in my area. Also I have alot more loose skin to contend with than last time and am thinking I may need a stricter toning plan (even though I know I will never really get rid of the loose skin). Any suggestions will be most welcome, keeping in mind I have a 2 year old and a 4 month old to look after, lol. Thanks!

Michelle answers:

First of all, CONGRATUALTIONS!!!! And thank you, you wrote clearly and with proper grammar, unlike some people… Well, my mom does yoga in the mornings before I wake up, and she also includes sit ups in her early morning exercise…. And if you still want to do pilates, you don’t need an overpriced instructor to help you! Just get a DVD and pop it in while the two year old is taking a nap, or playing with the dad….. Let him do it for a change

Daniel asks…

How to make my hair thicker?

My hair has always been thin. It got a bit thicker during pregnancy but I lost a lot of hair after my baby was 5 months old so ended up with even thinner hair. Now my hair slowly got back to the same thickness with before. Does any one know any natural way to make hair thicker?

Michelle answers:

One thing that can make a difference is your iron intake. While consuming way too much iron isn’t good for you, it is known that being anemic will make your hair (and fingernails) thinner.

Next time you get a blood test, pay attention to your hemoglobin counts.

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Ruth asks…

I had a Hysterosalpingogram and the radiologist was unable to get the catheter in uterus. What does this mean

I had a Hysterosalpingogram yesterday, and the radiologist was unable to get the catheter inside my uterus. I don’t see my regular doctor for a few weeks to discuss the results so I am trying to get info on my own. I am concerned that it is a blockage or something that would not only prevent a natural pregnancy but also artificial insemination or IVF, since those require the catheters as well. Does anyone have any experience with this problem? I am at a loss as to what this means.

Michelle answers:

It means that your cervix was too closed to get it in there. The cervix has a small opening in it, but the cervix is long so the opening is like a tunnel. In women who have never been pregnant or given birth the opening can be closed very tight making it impossible to get anything through it.
I would call and leave a message for your doctor on Monday morning since the test wasnt able to be performed, he may be able to get the cath in there or refer you to someone who can. I wouldnt wait 3 weeks.

Michael asks…

Are humans trying to play God with Science?

With so many ways to have a baby:

1. Natural sex
2. Artificial insemination — of mother with father’s sperm
3. Artificial insemination — of mother with donor sperm
4. Artificial insemination — with egg and sperm donors, using surrogate mother
5. In vitro fertilization (IVF) — using egg and sperm of parents
6. IVF — with Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
7. IVF — with frozen embryos
8. IVF — with Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)
9. IVF — with egg donor
10. IVF — with sperm donor
11. IVF — with egg and sperm donor
12. IVF — with surrogate using parents’ egg and sperm
13. IVF — with surrogate and egg donor
14. IVF — with surrogate and sperm donor
15. IVF — with surrogate using her egg, sperm from baby’s father
16. IVF — with surrogate using egg and sperm donors*
17. Cytoplasmic transfer**
18. Nuclear transfer and cloning

Are humans taking things too far?

Michelle answers:

Sometimes I wonder about that too. When I became infertile I just accepted it. A lot of people won’t.

William asks…

HELP! PCOS AND TTC!!!?

I have PCOS I was diagnosed 2 years ago and my husband and I have been TTC for over 15 months now we have tried all the clomid dosages and everything so that is out of the question I want to try something natural before we go into the IUI or IVF or ICSI

Michelle answers:

Are you on anything for controlling your sugars? The doctor started me on metformin to see if maybe I also had PCOS, and had an HSG done, and I wound up pregnant. I can understand how frustrating it is as we were on our 15th month when it happened. If not, I’d definitely recommend it. Sometimes it’s just that little extra push that makes it happen!

Ken asks…

Looking into the OBGYN profession…?

Hi, I’m a female high school student and would love to become an OBGYN one day. There is one issue though and that is consciously I would not be able to perform hysterectomies as well as IVF (In Vitro Fertilization). I believe in natural birth and both of these procedures go contrary to it. Is there any way to avoid these procedures during residency if I eventually do become an OBGYN? I would work in private practice if I do end up becoming an OBGYN so my only worry is during residency.

Michelle answers:

You can be and OBGYN with out preforming Hysterectomies or IVF. You can specialize in one particular field of OBGYN and by doing so you wont be put in that odd predicament of telling your patients you arent able to do a certain procedure. BEST OF LUCK!!

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Sandra asks…

Lighter period a week early, pregnancy symptoms, negative pregnancy test?

I had my daughter 6 months ago and breastfed for 4 months. I have had a few cycles now but they had been only about 25 days long and I know that I ovulated each cycle. This last cycle I ovulated but I bled at 21 days (Spotted 1 day bled 1 day spotted 1 day). And it more like spotting with one day that could be actually counted as bleeding. I have been having a lot of the same pregnancy symptoms I had with both of my children but have gotten 3 negative hpt’s. Sore boobs, TIRED, hungry, bloated, emotional. I am taking another test today but I am wondering if there is any other explanation for these symptoms. I was not on hormonal birth control. We use Creighton Method Natural Family Planning.

***Think before you respond! There is no reason to hangout on yahoo answers just to be a twit and leave dumb answers. Get a life!****

Thanks in advance!
Yes I did know that about the implantation bleeding that’s why I am so confused. I had implantation bleeding with my 2nd daughter. Thanks for your response!

Michelle answers:

Our Creighton instructor told us to wait until ten days after presumed ovulation/conception before bothering with any home pregnancy tests. All the symptoms you describe could easily be explained by PMS as well. You should contact your instructor, or find one if you don’t have one, and see if she can help you read your charts.

Lizzie asks…

Natural Birth and pregnant? questions…?

My boyfriend has gotten off in me 4 times since my last period, and I am usually on my period every 23 or 25 days. It has now been 30 days. I have been super nautious, but haven’t thrown up. I’ve almost passed out because I’ve been so lightheaded and I’ve been really hungry, but when I go to get something to eat, I don’t want to eat anymore. I haven’t had time to go get a pregnancy test, but it sound like I am, doesn’t it? Also, I was thinking that if I am, has anyone gone through a pregnancy without seeing a doctor? I know it helps alot, but I had a friend who was pregnant about 10 years ago and the doctors told her her baby was sick, and around the 8th month, something made her loose her baby because they were doing a bunch of tests on her, and a couple of years ago, she got pregnant again, and the doctors in a different hospital, and a different state told her the same things, and she didn’t want to loose her 2nd baby, so she spent the 2nd half of her pregnancy alone and didn’t see one doctor and ended up giving birth to a perfectly healthy baby on her bathroom floor, but I mean she did see doctors for the first half. and if you gave birth naturally, would you use drugs your second time around? Is it worth it to have a natural birth? I told you there was a lot of questions. I’ve just had those questions on my mind and wanted to especially see if anyone else had a natural pregnancy.

Michelle answers:

It sucks that nobody could give u a real answer….
But u should find out whether or not ur prego first…. Before i found out i just felt different ya kno..and my period was late…and when i had sex id feel the most painful cramps ever[turns out my uterus was stretching]… But i went to the health dept. They confirmed i was prego. N i went again n i heard my babys heartbeat 🙂 they said that was at 8wks but i stopped goin there cuz the ppl were so rude… Im 5 1/2 months prego now[according to what they told me before] and still havent seen a doctor… I feel fine and feel it kickin everyday like clockwork so i dunno… I figure back in the old days there werent doctors n hospitals n ppl have been having babies for thousands of years ya kno… Good luck

Jenny asks…

Will my recent miscarriage affect this early pregnancy?

I’ve recently have a m/c at 6 weeks on Aug 5th. I took a clear blue test last sat. and got a “pregnant” read out, I then took two First Response test with the second line so faint I could hardly tell it was there. So I think that I’m pregnant again, but its only been about three weeks since my m/c. I had a natural m/c and only bled for 4-5 days, no pain. My hcg level was at 0 when I did a blood test the monday before I took my pregnancy test. I’m terrified of having another m/c or a chemical one, could my recent m/c affect my current pregnancy?

Michelle answers:

I too am facing the same exact thing you are – but i have been told by numerous doctors when you lose a pregnancy so early like that, that it’s almost just considered a period, and since it was a natural miscarriage, the uterus lining shouldn’t be irritated much….it doesn’t increase your chance of having a miscarriage with this pregnancy, as most miscarriages happen, and it has nothing at all to do with the woman carrying the pregnancy – I would say this pregnancy will be okay!!! *hugssssssssss* – and don’t worry so much girl, stress is never a good thing for a baby!!

George asks…

Will the world be a better place if children were born inside of test tubes instead of in the womb?

Natural births lead to deaths and painful events. Wouldn’t the world be better if a mother never had to gain weight, or push, or anything that goes with pregnancy? A girl or woman would never have to change their lifestyle they could just keep working and paying attention to the things that are important to them. Would the world be a better place if natural pregnancy‘s were out dated?

Michelle answers:

No because there would not be as strong of a bond between the mother and child and this could lead to higher rates of abuse and neglect.

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Jenny asks…

Is a miscarriage as tragic as the death of a child? Relate your answer to the abortion debate.?

If a mother loses her 5yr old child it becomes a news story
If a mother deliberately agrees to abort a pregnancy it becomes a political and religious cause.
But what if a mother loses her unborn child through no will of her own?

Given that so many people feel that an abortion is the killing of a living human, I would expect all of those people to feel that a miscarriage is the natural death of a living human being. So why do they only make news stories out of dead children?
I’m very grateful for your thoughtful answers. There are some superb comments.

Michelle answers:

Miscarriage is a part of everyday life. It is a tragedy, and most definitely a loss. Philosophically speaking, it is a loss of potential. Miscarriage due to abuse infuriates me, however most miscarriages are simply unfortunate, unpreventable, and unexpected. Abortion is the willful murder of potential, whether you believe that potential to be a child or not. It is unethical.

Insofar as miscarriages being reported, there is no MEASURABLE loss, so the press doesn’t really have any way to treat it. I’m a journalist, and it would be hard to report those kinds of things. Of course, the human-interest in a story is always increased when a victim is pregnant. That is respect for life.

Sandra asks…

Abstinence fallacy vs Netherland’s statistics?

How do ultra-conservative “Ward and June Cleavers” in this country justify the fact that in the United States, the teen pregnancy rate is more than nine times higher than that in the Netherlands, nearly four times higher than the rate in France, and nearly five times higher than that in Germany.

But, in stark contrast to the USA’s more repressive, inhibited approach to teenage sexuality and education, families in the Netherlands have open, honest, consistent discussions with teens about sexuality and support the role of educators and health care providers in making sexual health information and services available for teens.

Over there, adults see intimate sexual relationships as normal and natural for older adolescents, a positive component of emotionally healthy maturation. At the same time, young people believe it is “stupid and irresponsible ” to have sex without protection and use the maxim, “safer sex or no sex.”

What exactly is it about this that is not understood here?
And please confine your comments to the topic at hand. We’re talking about the contrasting teen pg statistics; nothing else. Our system fails/theirs succeeds.

Michelle answers:

It is called the “Ostrich theory” where you bury your head in the sand and ignore reality for the comfort of that little world of yours you shove your head into.

Except in most cases it isn’t the ground it is the person’s own ass.

Mark asks…

Has anyone experienced Preconceptual Counseling? I received a referral from my OBGYN.?

I’m 27 + married and I think that I should consider pregnancy sooner rather than later due to my very weak spine and past surgeries (I’ve never had spinal surgery). I could also have some fertility problems due to never having a natural period (at 17 years old, I still didn’t have my period and was placed on the pill to begin my period- I’ve recently stopped taking the pill to see if I get a natural period.) What can I expect from counseling?

Michelle answers:

I had a preconception appointment with an OBGYN. He was super nice. I talked to him in his office. He would have done a pap and annual tests but I had them done recently. He gave me prenatal vitamins and we discussed possible barriers to becoming pregnant, such as a very irregular cycle. He also tested me for PCOS, and found that I have it. I was glad to go to this appointment so I found out what I was facing before really trying to conceive for a long time with no results.

Laura asks…

am i expecting too much or do i have a right to be upset?

i am currently 31w3d preg and i have a 2 yr old as well. all day long i am making doc appts cleaning the house and running after my 2 yr old and dealing w/ all the natural aches of pregnancy going to work 3 nights a week and on the weekends and so much more it seems like… all while my husband wakes up goes to work then comes home and sits down and doesnt hardly do anything. then he camplains about all the stuff i didnt do that day rather then noticing what i did do. he is also putting no interest into this pregnancy w/ my first he wanted to go to all doc appts and he knew everything that was going on now he has no clue what is going on he never goes to doc appts w/ me or anything he doesnt even know where my doc is how often i have to go how much the baby moves or ANYTHING and i am just soo upset that i feel like even at this far in my pregnancy i amm still doing everything i have swollen ankles and no time to rest. and when he is home at night and i am off work instead of him taking over w/ my son he wants me to still run after him and cook dinner and run to the store and a million other thing…all i want is for him to show that he cares just a little… . do you think i have reason to be upset about all this or am i just over reacting about all of it?

Michelle answers:

You have every right to get upset about this! He needs to be helping you! You are pregnant for goodness sake!

Dr. Phil says being a stay at home mom is as tough as THREE full time jobs. So why do men have one full time job and get to come home and do nothing, while we have three that never ends?

My husband comes home and does dishes, and sometimes baths. If he is home early, you better believe he will be cooking and cleaning. Your husband needs to do the same.

Make a chart. Everyday he needs to unload the dishes. He also needs to be in charge of garbage, and things like that everyday. He needs to set the table, and help dish out food. These are little things as husbands and fathers should do to be productive in a marriage and as a parent. Not because you can’t or won’t handle it alone (because the lord knows we can do it all).

Also, he sounds depressed. If he is not interested in your pregnancy, or really paying attention to his family, maybe he needs to see a counselor. Maybe set up an appointment for him, and go together. Counseling is a great place to express your feelings with a third party who won’t side with anyone (en less needs too). Try and get him more involved, give him bath time duty, or story time. Lay with him after dinner on the couch and take his hand and make him rub your belly!

One last thing…if you are to tired to do something, skip it! Life will go on and it can always be done the next day. If your hubby complains, tell him he needs to do it, because you are PREGNANT and exhausted!!

Good luck

I had a look at your other questions and it seem like you are actually collecting information on natural products.
What were you actually diagnosed with? Herbs and similar are MEDICAMENTS and no “one-fixes-all” solutions. And forget the idea that natural==harmless!
You should try to eat healthy unprocessed food and practice sport moderately but regularly.
Apart from that, nature knows no shortcuts: if you are healthy and have sex on the fertile days odds are 1:3 pr even 1:4 that you conceive!
Taking supplements at random, just because they worked for somebody else will not necessarily help you. Actually chances are good you’ll finally screw up your hormones by taking something you do not need.

George asks…

my boyfriends sister is jelouse of my pregnancy?

it is very sad that she cannot concieve the natural way and had attempted 3 IVF treatments all have failed.
i had only been with my boyfriend for a month and fell pregnant straight away.
she looks misserable everytime im around her and i havnt had one congratulations from her.
the only coments she makes are how mis-behaved the baby is going to be and how my boyfriend isnt going to cope. she has planned a long trip away a week before my baby is due.
i can see its hurting my boyfriend.
what can i do?

Michelle answers:

She is just hurting, for those of us who can get pregnant easily it is impossible to understand the feelings of women who are struggling for the one thing that we can have with so little effort,it isn’t nice of her to say your baby will be misbehaved or that your boyfriend wont cope but jealousy can make people act in terrible ways.

Of course it isn’t your fault but you do need to try to understand a bit,she has booked this trip to save herself the pain of a baby being born around her,not to spite you or your boyfriend and you can’t really expect her to be happy around you when inside she is screaming ‘why can’t it be me?’

Her comments are uncalled for but her attitude is perfectly understandable given the circumstances, maybe you or your boyfriend should talk to her and explain that you know she is hurting but that he is hurting too because he loves his sister and needs her around during this big change in his life.

Don’t expect too much though, she might not be able to cope with it and if that is the case all you can do is enjoy your pregnancy and baby together and with other family members and friends.

question for “pro lifers”?

if you wanted a child and found that you could not have one by natural means would you:

A. try IVF
B. opt for surrogacy
C. get on that adoption waiting list for that perfect, blonde, blue eyed caucasian infant
D. adopt a foster kid
most ‘pro lifers’ i’ve met are racist.
every ‘pro life’ propaganda poster i’ve ever seen depicts a white baby.
http://store.prolifeworld.com/posters.html

follow that link for a look at a ‘choose life’ poster and tell me what you see.

Michelle answers:

My husband and I adopted in a heartbeat. There are so many children without parents that live in orphanages that I think it would be the height of hubris for adoptive parents only want a caucasian. My husband and I were not ever able to have our own children and we felt that God was leading us in a different direction so I am proud to say we have the following: 29y/o Russian son named Alexei, 27y/o Arab daughter named Aaliyah, 26y/o African daughter named Ashanti, 23y/o Japanese daughter named Akira, our 22y/o son from Spain named Antonio, and our last son from Greece 21y/o Andreas. We adopted all of these children from different orphanages when the earliest age we could adopt was 1y/o and our eldest son was 7y/o when we were allowed to adopt him. You will notice we are heavy on the “A” names but that is because we really wanted to name each child “Angel” because of the love and life we have all had together. I stopped seeing them as any nationality once we met each one and fell in love. I have been so blessed to have my 6 children! I have no reservations if one of my children wanted to adopt rather than have their own birth child. I just want some grandchildren – soon! I cannot wait to see the next generation of “Angels”!

Donald asks…

Normal but slow rising HCG?

I am currently pregnant – 6 weeks & 2 days. This comes as a total surprise because I’m 40 AND I was told that I would likely never have kids the natural way (I have 2 boys from IVF).
Problem is that I know enough to be dangerous and am concerned about my HCG levels. They are in the normal levels for the week(s) I am pregnant but not rising appropriately….
Test 1, 4 wks, 6 days = 2927
Test 2, 5 wks, 3 days = 4011 (nowhere near doubling after 4 days)
Test 3, 5 wks, 5 days = 4887 (again, not even close to doubling)

They checked my progesterone with the 2nd hcg test and it was good at 20.35. I’m anxiously waiting for an u/s which won’t likely happen until next week or the week after. With my boys, my HCG levels were checked so early that the numbers were generally only double-digits but I think they doubled that early on. And I know that not everyone responds as typical/normal. I’m experiencing pg symptoms (fuller abdomen, breasts & exhaustion) and no signs of m/c.

Has this turned out well/positive for anyone? I’m trying to be +++ because I know there is nothing I can do until I have the u/s……..

Michelle answers:

Hi.. Congratulations on your pregnancy, I’ve 2 children from Ivf, I’m 42 now and I’ll be honest your scenario has put the fear of God into me! Lol.

This is what I’ve researched for you..

Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and result in a perfectly healthy baby. The results from an ultrasound after 5 – 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers.

5 weeks LMP: 18 – 7,340 mIU/ml
6 weeks LMP: 1,080 – 56,500 mIU/ml
There would be no doubt in my mind that you know the above, but the numbers would indicate your ok.

I’m off to find condoms… On the rare chance it could happen to me!
Very best of luck. X

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Book

Donald asks…

Is anyone else insulted by this?

I can’t believe that in all the pregnancy books I have and all the emails I get they all bang on so much about weight gain. And not about gaining lots, about how not to gain too much. I can’t believe it! Isn’t it enough with all the bloody pressure that’s on us women over how we look when we’re not pregnant, can’t we have a break? Aren’t our bodies undergoing a natural process that we don’t have any control over? I think the miracle we make with our bodies makes us beautiful no matter what our size. I’m all for being healthy but the next time I hear the phrase ‘post-baby body’ again I am going to scream. Sorry about my little tantrum there but seriously, anyone else find this really ridiculous?

And PS, before you say it, I’ve unsubscribed to the offending emails and stopped reading those particular books.
I would like to point out that I do say I am all for being healthy, like eating well and exercising. Just not with a weight goal in mind.

Michelle answers:

I found alot of pressure to become skinny again almost immediately after my son was born, and it was soul crushing.
I was a stripper before I got pregnant and wanted my tight flat tummy back again, but unfortunately I was only eating 200 calories a day to maintain that skinny body, and when I got pregnant and ate like a noraml person, my body went into storage overdrive and I gained ALOT of weight. 84lbs to be exact. My OBGYN was pissed, and I cried all of the time from everyone and their mother telling me how I was gaining too much.

Now my son will be 2 on friday and I am still slightly overweight. And finally I am comfortable in my own skin. Now that the pressure is off and the sites and doctors arent nagging me anymore, I can finally feel comfortable in my curvy body for the first time in my life EVER.

Dont let the pressure get to you, stay strong girl (or throw the evil books at hubby when he does something stupid)… Two bird with one stone (er… Book!)

Healthy eating = more kilos? please help me understand?

last monday i was obese (117kgs also known as 257.4 lbs) i was eatting rubbish, not exercising at all, i was smoking a pack a day.

last Tuesday i discovered i was pregnant. My husband and i are over the moon! we raced out and bought a book about pregnancy.
following the books advice i quit smoking immediately, stoped drinking soft drink, gave up caffenine. started eating only natural sugars (from fruit etc) and complex carbs. i follow a healthy food pyramid. and drink loads of water.
i started walking for 30mins every morning and an hour in the evenings most days.

here i am a week later and i have put on two more kilos (4.4 pounds).

the baby is the size of an apple seed, and at 6 weeks i am not showing at all. so it’s not “baby weight”.

please help me understand?

Michelle answers:

There is nothing to worry about!

You mentioned you drink ‘loads’ of water. That is most likely the problem, just a build up of fluid. If you drink a lot of water your body does not use or urinate every drop, much of it is stored in the interstitial fluid (the fluid that surrounds all your cells) and therefore will contribute to any additional weight gains. I used to run heaps and monitor my weight, when I first started i drank heaps of water but wasn’t losing weight, I consulted a physio and he said it was fluid build up. Which is not a problem because it will go away on its own. If your really concerned see your dietitian for a face 2 face expert opinion.

Must mention.. It is excellent that you are keeping a healthy lifestyle and exercising regularly. Good Luck congratulations :]

Your body is preparing for the baby, you can’t see it, but it is.

Congrats on being healthy for your baby! 😉

Sandra asks…

pregnancy-has anyone been induced after having a ceserian with first bub.?

I wanted to attempt vbac but unfortunately i have gestational diabetes as long with me already being a high risk from having a ceserian last time. I really wanted to go naturally this time, experience it atleast, even my water breaking. I am booked for a ceserian on the 11 as they say its a high risk for scar rupture as contractions increase when being induced..BUT… has anyone been induced after having a ceserian. my ces was breech but this baby is head down, if only i could get this baby out of me before the ceserian theyll give me a trial vbac for as long as 11 hours, seeing if things progress. ok im not trying castor oil as i dont want diarhea during my labour, and i mean constant, not just a poop, lol. I have tried chamomile, any one know if that works, i heard it does, two strong cups, still nothing.. wiggling my hips around, sex.. but not much as hubby feels too uncomfertable.. walking 1.6 kms a day, im just freaking out, i dont want this ceserian again, i dont have anyone to care for my son when it happens..I need this baby out of me, alot of information would be helpful..so questions..
Any other natural ways of inducing besides what i have done..
And have you or anyone else been induced after havign a ceserian, did it go well , and so on, and babies with gestational diabetes, anything risky or scary that i should be aware of.

Michelle answers:

Doctors normally won’t let you delivery vaginally once you’ve had a c-section… Especially if you’re high risk.

Sandy asks…

will I able to deliver a baby ever?

This is about pregnancy .
I am 30 years old.
I had 2 miscarraiges in past. Both times doctor adviced me to to D & C as heartbeats not detected.
both times d & C happened in 11 the week.

After that I did all the tests right from TORCH to genetic study of mine and the baby after D & C.
all the reports are noramal except few things

1. I have a menustual cycle of 35-40 days. sometimes it is exactly 30 days.
when I did ovulation study , doctor said to me as the follicle growing is slow . It is getting ruptured correctly but
it takes more time.In healthy case rupturing of ovary should happen within 15 days.

2. harmone “Homocystin” level is high.( I am taking folinext and biotin for this and now it is in control)

I am very much worried about 1 st point. Doctor has given me tablets “ovulet ” to stimulate this process . now my ovulation cycle is perfect.
but does it really helpful . as this is not the natural way , if i become preganant does egg quality , pregancy will be healthy ?

I am doubtful if I am able to ever deliver a baby.
please share your thoughts.

does anybody has same problem and delivered baby successfully?

Michelle answers:

Never had the same problem but I would think the doctors know what they’re doing and wouldn’t give you anything that makes the problem worse. They know obviously that you want a baby, so they’re trying to help you. Have a little trust in them and follow their advice. If at any point something doesn’t seem right then get a second opinion, there’s no harm in that.

pregnant and petrified?

Hi i am pregnant with our 2nd (first is nearly 5yrs old) im only 17weeks and this pregnancy came as a bit of a shock but we are all so excited, yet i can help but feel petrified when i think of giving birth. with our first i had an epidural,(ah pain free) this time round the hospital do not do epidurals and its more about natural ‘water birth’ pethidine etc i do like the idea of a water birth but i keep having nightmares that i am in severe pain and that i die from the pain!! i want to laugh but i genuinely am petrified. can anyone offer any advice whatsoever.
Best wishes X

Michelle answers:

The baby has got to come out. There’s no way round that. It WILL be painful. But the pain is the easiest part! You’ve got to get real, get on with it and accept it.

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Linda asks…

pls… advise me………desperately i want to be a mother?

how much chances are there if there is any damage done to the fallopian tubes? is there any way to become pregnant in natural way?
i am not in position to afford ivf.
please god please help me. you know how much i want to become a mother.
pls. any one advise. any chances are there – becoming pregnant naturally coz i am without fallopian tubes(damaged)

Michelle answers:

Im not really sure what to say except you have to have faith. If both of your tubes are damaged then of course you know that you have a pretty slim chance of concieving. But there IS hope; there are women out there that even after having their tubes cut and burned and miraculously they still end up getting pregnant. There are even women out there that went through menopause and somehow ended up pregnant out of the blue.
Maybe you could have a dye test done on your fallopian tubes and that might open them up (Ive heard lots of stories about that happening) You could also take your choice of many different herbs to try and see if something happens.
If you don’t want to go through the IVF route, there really isnt anything to do but hope and pray that a miracle happens…

I wish you all the best of luck

Paul asks…

what does redused oocyte mean?

hi, im just having tests for ivf, ive already had 2 natural pregnancys, which both ended in misscarrige, it says on a letter that i have elevated serum fsh, redused ovarian fuction and redused oocyte quality, and my partner has a low sprem count anyone help me understand what this means. thanks x

Michelle answers:

OK…I will try :

elevated serum FSH can mean you are approaching menopause

reduced ovarian function means that they are not working well. The hormones are not being released correctly and eggs might bot be released correctly either.

I believe that oocyte quality has something to do with the quality of the eggs you DO release.

Definately check with your doctor, but I think it means you are going to have a really hard time getting a good quality embryo and it taking…

Charles asks…

getting pregnant with one block tube and one open tube?

well as i have been posting questions i have come to find out that i have a a block tube and my other tube is open is been almost two years trying to get pregant. we don’t have the money to do IVF because my doc said that would go around the problem ,but its not for shure thing that it will work on the first try or the second then i will be out of alot money and debt. should we keep trying the natural way i just turn 34 so iam worried as well because my clock is ticking to get pregant. my husband is fine in his deparment its just me. any one have a ny luck getting pregant with one tube? if you did how long did it take?

Michelle answers:

I suggest you invest in a Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor in order to make the best of the months that you will be ovulating from your unblocked side.

I had a tube removed years ago and never became pregnant again (but I also had other fertility issues). However, I woman I used to work with had to have her only tube tied after she kept accidentally becoming pregnant with one tube.

Try the monitor for a few months first. Then, if that does not work, speak with your doctor about doing an IUI. An IUI is very affordable and with ultrasound, they can determine if you will be ovulating from your unblocked side before the insemination.

Good luck to you – I wish you the best!

Lizzie asks…

Help to get pregnant?

I am looking for help getting pregnant, been trying for a while and no luck, looking for help/methods for natural pregnacy without having to resort to expensive IVF treaments, any info gladly apprieciated. x

Michelle answers:

I didn’t give more details: are your periods regular? Do you have any health issues? How about your partner?
Have you tried charting your BBT and checking cervical mucus to figure the best time to get pregnant. Have you tried OPKs, they will predict ovulation for you. If not, these are my best recommendations from me.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Mark asks…

clearblue pregnancy test kit accuracy?

ok ill just give the basics
1: age 35
2: using natural contraception . ie withdrawal
3: 1 week late period
4; took clearblue pregnancy test yesterday and got a fairly quick negative result,
what are the chance i could be pregnant giving that clearblue says it can tell you if you are pregnant 4 days before period is due

not experiencing any symptoms ie. sickness , food aversion , tender breasts etc… not sure if it is too soon anyway
and yes i will go see my gp inevitably ,

any ideas, ????? thanx every1 for taking the time to answer x x x x x x

Michelle answers:

Withdrawal is NOT a form of contraceptive, i fell pregnant that way.. So its not a good idea.
If your one week late theres a reason, pregnant or something else
gp tests are the most accurate tests, & through both my pregnancy’s theyre the only ones which have told me possitive.. So good luck for which ever result you want. But if your not wanting to get pregnant i suggest you invest in a propper contraceptive

William asks…

Positive pregnancy test, but wanting to have a natural home birth?

What are the first steps I should take here? Contact a midwife? With my other children I had hospital births, but I don’t want that for this pregnancy. I live in Texas around the Dallas area if that helps any. Thank you!

Michelle answers:

Direct entry midwifery is legal in Texas, so finding a midwife would be much the same as finding an OB — talk to friends (try your local La Leche League if you don’t know anyone whose had a home birth), check the phone book, interview midwives, and find one you are comfortable with. She will let her know her schedule for prenatal care and such.

(The midwife will already be working with an OB for necessary back-up — so far as I’m aware there are no OB practices that actually do home births.)

Daniel asks…

My period is late by 11 days I have taken 3 pregnancy test all negative, Anyone know why my period is MIA?

Do you think it is stress? I have only had 2 postpartum periods. are there any Natural ways to get my period to regulate again?

Michelle answers:

I’m sure it’s stress and I read somewhere that it can also take a while for your period to get back to normal after having a baby. =)

I’ve heard eating parsley helps, but it’s probably just an old wives’ tale.

Maria asks…

Negative pregnancy test. Week late on period ?

Ok. So i had a natural miscarriage July 9th- July 15th. All my pregnancy symptoms were gone by the 12th of July.(I was only about 3 weeks) My period would have been due (28 day cycle) on august 6th. I know after a miscarrriage it can take a while for your cylcles to be normal, if they ever do. Anyways, I’m having different pregnancy symptoms. When I was pregnant with my MC I had swollen boobs. No nipple color change.Sore breasts. Peeing a lot. And nausea. The only difference this time is I don’t have swollen boobs. Boobs are a lot more sore than last time. but the circle around my nipples are getting darker. I’ve been nauseous. Bloated. And more tired. I have taken many pregnancy test and negative. (except for one dissapearing positive line) so my question is, has anyone ever experienced pregnancy symptoms after a miscarriage and not been pregnant? Or has been pregnant? Btw I’m going to the dr next week and I just want some opinions while I’m waiting.

Btw im 20 and if I am pregnant, I would be ( I think) about 4 weeks

Thanks

Michelle answers:

It sounds like you are (: ! Yay. Are you taking your pregnancy tests with first morning urine? That’s the best time to take them . I know its hard but just wait and see what the doctor says. (Sorry about your mc) good luck and lots of baby dust (:
