Facebook Login?! Help?

I’m trying to login onto facebook, but a message pops up saying that my account is under maintenance? What do i do? Its been doing this all day! /:

Michelle answers:

Sounds like a Facebook glitch. Come back later (like at the end of the day or tomorrow) and try again. Still no luck, try another computer or ask your friends if they are having the same problems.

George asks…

Login to Facebook on Yahoo Answers?

Is it just me or is there a pop-up asking to login to Facebook whenever I post an answer?

Call me backward but I have reservations about publishing my every online interaction onto Facebook, so why is Yahoo spamming me with this constant pop-up?

Is there an option to turn this off? Or am I simply a set of data ready to be mined by anonymous companies?
I JUST found the same pop-up is shoved into my face when I just posted the question, does anybody know where Yahoo publishes their service updates so I can see the reason behind this intrusive spamming?

Michelle answers:

Way back when users had the option of sharing updates to their accounts (meaning questions and answers they posted) with facebook and twitter – I opted out of it, especially because I set my profile to private. Whenever I posted an answer since then, beneath my answer I found a reminder that I chose NOT to share updates to my account, which was/is fine with me. The pop-up you and quite a few other users are currently complaining about, never showed up for me, don’t know though whether it is because I opted out of updates, or because I have the FireFox installed and AdblockPlus additionally. In case you (or other users) are/is interested, this might help:

Download and install the latest Firefox browser:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html

Install “adblock plus”:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNvb2SjVjjI

Result: no more annoying ads! And pages are loading much quicker too…:-)

http://adblock-plus.en.softonic.com/android – adblock plus for Android
http://adblock-plus.en.softonic.com/ – adblock plus for Chrome
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/26171/safari-adblock – for Safari Mac
http://opindian.com/blog/2009/02/25/adblock-solution-for-safari-4-windows-and-mac/ – solution for Safari 4 Win and Mac.

I for one have the Firefox installed and don’t see a single ad, no pop-up, no fly-in and no commercial videos on the Yahoo pages and on most other web sites…:-)

Edit: right now I too got the facebook pop-up, will be answering more questions tonight, and I’ll check whether it is possible to disable that annoyance. If I find a solution, I’ll come back here and post my findings.

Your Questions About Food Network

Mary asks…

Does anyone watch food network?

Michelle answers:

Yeah, man, the Food Network rocks!!! Have you seen Rachael Ray? She rocks my world!!!!

Nancy asks…

Where is the recipe for this sweet potato dish? (food network)?

From the show the best thing I ever made there was a thanksgiving edition, and these two guys, who were brothers, made dishes including this sweet potato casserole with special sweet potatoes and “pecan candy”. Where Is this this recipe? Links? Remember its food network.

Michelle answers:

Show: The Best Thing I Ever Made
Episode: Side by Side (not Thanksgiving edition lol)

Ingredients

Pecan Candy:
Nonstick pan spray
2 egg whites
1 tablespoon sorghum molasses
3 cups pecan halves
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon ground cumin

Potato Puree:
3 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and large dice
4 cups vegetable stock, or water if unavailable
4 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon white peppercorns, ground
1/3 cup unsalted butter
1 vanilla bean, scraped
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, optional

Marshmallow Topping:
1 1/2 cup egg whites
2 3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 strips gelatin

Directions

For the pecan candy: Preheat the oven to 225 degrees F. Lightly spray a nonstick pan with oil or pan spray.

Whip together the egg whites, molasses and 1 tablespoon water in a stand mixer until soft peaks or fluffy. Fold the pecans into the bowl.

In a smaller bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, salt, coriander, cayenne and cumin. Place the pecans on the prepared baking sheet and dust over the spice and sugar mixture.

Bake in the oven until evenly browned and fragrant, 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring every 10 to 12 minutes. Be sure to spread out each individual pecan when removed from the oven and let cool. Roughly chop the pecans and store in an airtight container until needed.

For the potato puree: Place the potatoes, stock, salt and pepper into a medium saucepan with a lid. Heat the pot to a boil, return to a simmer, cover and cook until the potatoes are very tender, 20 to 25 minutes.

Add the potatoes, but not the liquid, to a food processor and puree until smooth. Add the butter, vanilla seeds and cinnamon, if using, to the puree. Pulse again until all the ingredients are incorporated and smooth.

Butter a 9-inch casserole dish that has enough volume to hold the finished puree. Place the puree in the buttered casserole. (Or hold until ready to place into the casserole.)

For the marshmallow topping: Combine in a stand mixer the egg whites, 1 cup of the sugar and vanilla extract. Beat the mixture using the whip attachment until soft peaks form.

Simultaneously heat the remaining 1 3/4 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepot until the mixture reaches 240 degrees F on a sugar thermometer.

Place the gelatin in a mixing bowl and slowly pour in the sugar syrup over the gelatin. Begin mixing at half speed until combined. Then incorporate the egg mixture and whip until slightly cool to the touch.

To finish: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Spread the marshmallow topping over top of the sweet potatoes in the casserole. Top with the pecan candy, place into the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. And then rotate the pan and bake until the meringue is browned and the potatoes are hot throughout, another 8 to 10 minutes. Remove and let stand for 5 to 8 minutes and serve.

Notes: This recipe was provided by a chef, restaurant or culinary professional and may have been scaled down from a bulk recipe. The Food Network Kitchens chefs have not tested this recipe, in the proportions indicated, and therefore, we cannot make any representation as to the results.

Susan asks…

JAG on Food Network Star?

Who else was shocked by JAG just now on the Next Food Network Star? I was. I have absolutely no respect for him now, after fabricating his story. Who do you think will win? Personally, I think Rory…
I hope that Amy wins, but think that Rory will win because she is rather gifted in the chest and she has that horse teeth grin.

Michelle answers:

Well I was shocked for he doing something so stupid as lying on Nation TV; sooner or later someone would have sold the true to the tabloids if he would have win the show. Shame on him; he let down the Army guys, the Caribbean people and the Chefs.

The sad thing is that he had no need to do that, the Food-network wasn’t looking for the “Next GI Joe” (or were they??).

Here you can read how was he caught.

http://www.militarytimes.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1559324

He was not my personal favorite. He was a good cook but he did terrible on the “Mini Iron Chef” and remember how Bobby caught him trying to pass a regular soup as a “Caribbean”. He was trying to talk his way out of the burned chicken. I think he has problems dealing with preasure. He is not a bad person but he needs to grow up and be more mature.

I still think they should have fired JAG instead of Paul. As a matter of fact I think they should have fired him on the chapter he started fighting over some food he forgot at the store.

Amy is my favorite and I couldn’t believe when she was sent home; she did better on the radio interview and she did good on the Raychel Ray show. Was the Food-Network staging her comeback or trying to help the “war hero” and play the patriot card? Or did the Network knew bout JAG’s lies from the start and were waiting to use the drama on their favor? Who knows. Officially JAG’s downfall started on a June-1 interview by “Military Times” so Amy going home was recorded long before that interview (or so they want us to think???).

Honestly I don’t trust “Reality Shows”, they have been known to stage many stuffs and play with the public and the cast.

Well going back to the Finals, I think Amy is the most complete but I would not be surprised if Rory win, I think she also has some good qualities, any one of them will do great. Paul also would have been great on a show, he was fun and natural.

But again, Amy or Rory is hard to say, I think I’ll go for Amy but that might change depending on how she does on the final challenge (to be honest she could have done something better than “baked eggs” on her last challenge).

Robert asks…

Who is your favorite person on the Food Network?

Why?

Michelle answers:

I like Alton Brown’s “Good Eats” …I just feel like I learn something every time I watch the show. I like Alton…he is sort of nerdy but I feel like his shows are well produced and interesting. He did that road show also this year and that was ok.

I think Food Network has done well hiring talent. Quite a collection of interesting personalities…some of my favorites and the big names:
Emeril – probably why everyone was initially attracted to food tv…kind of one of the pioneers of the network.
Bobby Flay – cool as they come…everything he prepares just looks good
Mario Batali – seems like he would be fun to eat with and get a little drunk
Rachel Ray – you either love her or hate her but really a national personality
Paula Dean – queen of fattenning food…everyones grandma
Nigella Lawson – love this woman…can’t cook a lick but fun to watch…lol

Your Questions About Fafsa

Thomas asks…

A Question About FAFSA and Living Situation?

What happens if you intended to live with your parents when you filed FAFSA, but then you decide to move out before the semester starts and live in an apartment? Can you just go back and change your FAFSA information and your pell grant award amount change? How WOULD it change? Do you get more money if you live on your own? (This is when FAFSA assumes you get $0.00 in assistance from parents.)

Michelle answers:

FAFSA never assumes you get $0.00 from your parents unless you meet criteria to fill out FAFSA as an independent student (for example being over 24, married, enlisted military, etc….)
… Read more about that here: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/help/fftoc02k.htm

living on your own… Even if you could prove you were fully self-supporting for over a year with no help from your parents, your FAFSA generated funding will not change

Carol asks…

how to write BMCC on FAFSA?

in my FAFSA application, i tried to put BMCC into my FAFSA but it they said the search was incorrect. What would be the correct way to put BMCC on the FAFSA application?

Michelle answers:

The fafsa isn’t smart enough to recognize abbreviations. I’m not even sure what school you are referring, but usually you can find the school code on the schools fin aid website.
If you are talking about Borough of Manhattan Community College, The City University of New York, here are the codes you need.

FAFSA
School Code
002691

TAP
School Code
1404

Sharon asks…

How much from fafsa?

Just wondering how much you people from the internets received from FAFSA? Thanks 😀

Michelle answers:

FAFSA does NOT pay you.. If gives u a number so that financial aid will know how much aid u are eligible for.. Depending on ur status in school and your level (freshman, etc)..u get more aid as u advance in grades.

William asks…

Address change in FAFSA?

i am currently living with my grandparents for school, and i am applying for FAFSA. My parents live in a different city, but once i am done with high school i will be moving into my parents home for college. My question is for my FAFSA application, do i need to enter my grandparents address (where i live right now) or my parents address (where i will be living when i enter college). If i enter my grandparents address, will i be able to change my address afterwards? or will i have to only change my address in college? i am really confused as to what to do! please help! 🙂

Michelle answers:

The FAFSA is considered to be a snapshot of your situation on the day that you submit it, so you should use your current address at your grandparents’ home. You can change it later–and you should. To do that, you just need to log onto the FAFSA website and click on the button for making corrections. That will bring up your entire FAFSA and you can correct your address there.

Your Questions About Firefox

Sharon asks…

Internet explorer or Mozilla Firefox?

Which one do you prefer?
I like Firefox way better than Internet Explorer.

Michelle answers:

Firefox.

1. Because internet explorer is junk.
2. Firefox is awesome
3. Internet explorer is not supported on linux.

I actually like Opera as well.

William asks…

How to fix Firefox shadow rendering?

Ok so firefox doesn’t support image shadows from iweb and renders them improperly. Is there a way to set shadows off if the browser is firefox but keep shadows on for safari, IE, and chrome?
You can see what i mean at my site http://thecityenglewood.com if you load it in firefox.

Michelle answers:

My Firefox supports image shadows. It’s just not as pronounced as in IE, but the shadow is there.

New developer features in Firefox 3.5: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Firefox_3.5_for_developers

Ron

Donna asks…

Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer?

Google Chrome, Firefox, or Internet Explorer? & why?

Michelle answers:

Google Chrome or Firefox (depending on your personal preferences). Not IE because it is the most insecure of all browsers and it does not support or follow the Internet Standards (scoring 20% on the acid test versus the 72% from Firefox and 100% from Chrome).

I would use Chrome if you need a fast, stable, and secure browser but nothing more. I would use Firefox if there are pluggins that you need to enhance your daily internet activity (such as web design, RSS feeder, Bit Torrent downloads, multiple search engines, etc.).

James asks…

What is better Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox?

What is better Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox?

Michelle answers:

Mozilla Firefox is better for me. It has a built in spellchecker to check your spelling, more faster, safer, better secured, tweak-able than IE, and add-ons. Firefox and its add-ons are free.I do like the WOT add-on, for example, because the add-on make sure the site doesn’t contain a virus, malware, or anything. WOT block sites and popups they deem a poor reputation. I use Firefox on both my Vista laptop and XP desktop. I also use Firefox at school. No problems at all. I don’t use IE much besides sites requiring IE or Windows Updates. Besides that, Firefox all the way.

Your Questions About Forever 21

Chris asks…

hollister & forever 21?

if you were a medium at hollister what size would you wear at forever 21? im online shopping for school & idk how small or big the clothes run at forever 21.

Michelle answers:

It really depends on the actual garment. Forever 21 makes their clothes at all different companies in different countries, and when the patterns are made for the clothes…each pattern maker and clothing company has their own “standard” of what exactly a size is. It also depends on how long or short your torso is.

I wear a medium at Hollister and Abercrombie and a size 5 in their jeans. Most of my shirts from Forever 21 that are size small, but I also have a few mediums and 2 larges. The larges are shorter and are bustier style tops. Some of the mediums at forever21 run pretty big. In pants and shorts, I have worn everything from a 3 to a 9, depending on how they are cut.

I would recommend that you go to the actual store and try on exactly what you want. If you can’t do that or prefer to order on line, just order 2 size of whatever you want and send back the other one. They are really good about doing quick returns. If you can’t do that for whatever reason…follow this guideline…if the garment is fitted, get a medium. If the garment is loose or empire waisted, get a small.

Hope that helps! 🙂

Betty asks…

What’s the difference of XXI Forever and forever 21?

well in the mall that i usually go to, their going to open a new store called XXI Forever and we have a forever 21. would it be the same thing? because i was on forever 21‘s website and it had numerous stores by forever 21 like forever love, heritage, etc. will they combine all of that into XXI Forever or not?
and we had a heritage 1981 but it closed.
please help im very curious.

Michelle answers:

XXI Forever

Celebrated by many style-conscious and trend-savvy shoppers, XXI Forever, has quickly become the source for the most current fashions at the greatest value. XXI Forever features creative clothing designs and accessories with exciting new store environments.
Forever XXI stores are larger than classic Forever 21 shops and offer men’s and women’s fashions, as well as lingerie, footwear, cosmetic items, and other accessories. The chain released a line for young males called twenty one mens in 2006… Hope i helped :o)

James asks…

What do you think of Forever 21?

I really like it there. Its affordable, and there stuff is really good!

There lip gloss is awesome.
They have something for everybody there…
Nail Polish is really good to!

Whats one thing you don’t like about forever 21, and something you do like about it there.

Michelle answers:

I absolutely love Forever 21; it’s my favorite store!
One thing that I like about F21: well I can’t pick just one! I love that their clothes are trendy, stylish, and are reasonably priced! Their accessories are so cute and are a steal! Also, they sell basically everything, from shoes to underwear to makeup. I’m sure that they have something for everyone!
One thing I don’t like about F21: where I live at least, the store is not very organized. It’s always a scavenger hunt to find what you’re looking for. Also where I live, there’s only one or two cashiers so the line is super long!

Michael asks…

Where can I find a Forever 21 store near me?

I live in London, Ontario, Canada, and I absolutely LOVE Forever 21‘s clothing – however, I don’t think there are any in Canada at all, not even in Toronto… Where can I find a Forever 21 store closest to me? London is in southern Ontario, only a few hours away from the border into Michigan, close to Port something or other… Please keep in mind that I can’t go all over Michigan to find a single store – please help me find the one CLOSEST to me! :S Help me please!

Michelle answers:

Here are some Forever 21 stores that are in Ontario In Canada the stores are called XXI forever instead of Forever 21.

Your Questions About Fox News

Betty asks…

Why do democrats shy away from Fox News?

Call me naieve, but I don’t understand why democrats hate Fox News. I watch CNN, ABC, MSNBC, and all of the news outlets to get my news. I read New York Times, The New York Post, Cincinnati Enquirer, Time Magazine, etc.

Why do so many of you hate Fox News? Please enlighten me.

Michelle answers:

Democrats hate Fox News because FN makes sure they are NOT liberal. Democrats have very liberal views. Most shows on Fox News, such as the O’Reilly Factor are very conservative. For example, Barack Obama continues to refuse to appear on the O’Reilly Factor because he’s a popular Democrat. Believe it or not, I asked Obama to his face at a rally if he would appeal to moderates by appearing on O’Reilly’s show. He smiled and said:
“I’ll make it on there some time.” People, unlike me, hate Fox News because they are controversial and usually always pick a side. By the way, The New York Times is pretty liberal if you haven’t figured that out.
Hey, good question.

Michael asks…

How is Fox News biased?

I hear and read about people saying how Fox is biased and shows favoritism towards the Republican Party. Even with my little knowledge, I agree with most Democrat policies and do not like Republicans. However, ever since I was young, Fox News has been the only news network I use, and I don’t really like the other ones in my region. I’ve never noticed its conservative nature before, and I still don’t see it. Could someone please give me examples of how Fox is biased? Please don’t insult me, even if it’s obvious. I don’t know much about politics.

Michelle answers:

There are TWO Fox news channels. One is on network TV; the other is on cable.

The one on network is reasonably balanced.

The one on cable is tipped so far to the right it’s a wonder they don’t fall over.

The University of Maryland recently released a study that showed that Fox (cable) viewers are the “most misinformed in the entire country.”

Perhaps you’re watching the network Fox.

I don’t think you wouldn’t be able to see the bias if you were watching the cable Fox, altho lots of other people still believe it’s a legitimate news channel, when in fact, it is ENTERTAINMENT.

George asks…

Is Fox News dumbing down it’s viewers?

Fox News ignores real news in favor of fluff and liberal bashing. It’s top stories for the past two weeks have been Anna Nicole Smith , Britney’s breakdown and smearing Al Gore. Up until the crash this week of the stock market Fox has been reporting how “great” the economy was under Bush, ignoring all the facts that indicated this was not true. It appears Fox News viewers are being suckered into believing Fox propaganda and it is starting to show.

Michelle answers:

-fox news is full of neoconservative propaganda.

Rupert Murdoch, the owner of fox news and chairman of newscorp is notorious for printing propaganda.

He is also endorsed hillary clinton. Does that sound like a conservative to you?

Here is part of a conversation of murdoch’s that came out in the news recently:

At one point, while addressing O’Reilly and Hannity, Murdoch said, “Can you believe the sh** we get away with? Good thing our viewers are dumb as doorknobs or else we would be in trouble.” To which, Hannity laughed and then replied, “Yeah, I heard that people who watch Fox News have to wear bibs to catch their drool so their sofas won’t be stained by the tobacco juice, and that’s just the women.” O’Reilly, also laughing, then joined in by saying, “Hey, how many Fox viewers does it take to change a light bulb? None, they all refuse to change the bulb because they prefer living in the dark.”

However, the unkindest cut of all that is sure to enrage Fox viewers came at the end of the conversation when Murdoch raised his glass in a toast and said, “God bless trailer park trash and idiots everywhere. Without them Fox News would be nothing and I would not be a billionaire.”

Linda asks…

Do you think that Fox News is the network for Republicans?

I think it is the only network that is actually not biased to Democrats and President Obama.

Democrats always reference conservatives to go back and watch Fox News.

Everyone knows that the news media got Obama elected with their biased viewpoints against McCain and never anything negative against Obama. This will probably happen again to get him re-elected. If more people would watch Fox News they wouldn’t make mistakes like electing Obama as President.

Fox News versus ABC news, CBS News, NBC News, CNN, CNBC and all others- Kind of unfair to an election don’t you think.

Michelle answers:

Fox News is popular because millions of Americans are aware that mainstream media is a Liberal tool.

Fox News makes news “Fair and Balanced” because it is one of the few non-Liberal news outlets.

So smart people should watch Fox News and then watch all other news, and then you can tell where the truth is. Somewhere in the middle.

Hi, I was wondering. Different schools have different dates to submit their FAFSA forms. Does this mean that I can fill out FAFSA multiple times, or do I just fill it for the school i know i want to go to. I dont understand if i have to fill it out for each school? Thank you

The FAFSA is filled out only once each year, and submitted to the US Department of Education. It’s the Department of Education that evaluates your application, and they use the information that you provide to calculate a special index known as your Expected Family Contribution, or EFC.

When you complete the FAFSA, there’s a question that asks where you want the Department to send your “ISIR”, the Institutional Student Information Report. If you took the SAT or the ACT, you might remember doing this on that application as well – you told the College Board where to send your test results – you do the same thing with the FAFSA – tell the Department of Education where to send your EFC score.

Just like with the test results, you can change your mind later, and ask the Department to send your EFC to other schools – you can go back to the FAFSA website, enter your PIN, and add new schools to the list.

So – complete the FAFSA only once, but do it once every year. If you’ve applied to several schools, and you’re not sure where you’re going yet, have the Department of Education send your report to all of them. If you want to add more schools later, all you’ll need is the school code. The Department will take care of the rest.

By the way, once your school receives the ISIR, it’s the financial aid office that determines what forms of aid you qualify for. You’ll receive an “aid offer letter”, letting you know what kinds of aid you are being offered, and how much.

Good luck – I hope this helped.

Filing a FAFSA?

OK im so confused about this fafsa stuff!! so im filing for a FAFSA because im going to start community college in the fall to start on my basics, but im not 100% sure if im going to get my associates in nursing there after ive complete the basics or transfer to a university after im done. if i transfer, do i have to file another fafsa??

Michelle answers:

First make sure you know when the financial aid deadlines are for all the colleges you think you may attend. I believe there’s one deadline for the Federal money and then individual schools may have their own deadlines. The money you may receive from the FAFSA is on a first come-first served basis this is per college/university and per school (since you may not only qualify for federal money, you could qualify for money from your school. So the deadlines are important) Ok, now on to your question….No, you don’t have to fill out another FAFSA, ideally you will have some idea of the university you may want to attend and then put that school code in the FAFSA when it asks you. If you fill your FAFSA out online there will be a section asking you where you want to send your FAFSA and then you will just enter the school codes there (they provide you with the code and you can enter several). Pretty much you can do that every year or you can do it the year before you transfer. When you put in the school codes of the university you want to attend, the Dept of Education will automatically send your info to that school.

When should FAFSA be filled out?

I already completed my FAFSA and received money for Fall 2010, and Spring 2011. When does a FAFSA need to be completed in order to get aid for next year? Thank you!

Michelle answers:

Fill out the FAFSA January 1 of the year you will need it or as close to then as possible but not earlier than that. Because Jan 1 is when the government puts all the financial aid out there for students to apply for. In the beginning there is a lot and they give more, as time goes on from that date its starts to get taken and it gets less and less.

Also dont wait to do those taxes. You can do an estimate FAFSA which is what my daughters college suggested. She is attending now Fall 2010. January 1, 2010 we used our previous years taxes from 2008 and did the FAFSA as an estimate. Then as soon as we got our w2 from our jobs we did the 2009 taxes and then we went on the FAFSA home page in #3 where it says make corrections and we edited our FAFSA and resent it with the tax information from 2009. There is a question on the FAFSA that says if it is an estimate one. This way they are already preparing your award package of aid early which is better.

It goes by income and assets of you and your family so if you qualify you will get aid, however, doing so early you will get more than if you do your FAFSA late.
