First start by completing the FAFSA after you have received your pin. NOTE: Change your pin immediately to something you will remember in the future. You will need it every year when you complete the FAFSA or make changes. To complete the FAFSA you will need you and your parents tax returns if your a dependent student (under the age of 24). Be sure to enter the school code of the University you plan to attend (you can enter more than one code if you haven’t made up your mind yet).

Once you’ve completed and submitted your FAFSA, you should receive your Student Aid Report (SAR) by mail or email that determines your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). It basically determines if you are eligible for financial aid. Your school will most likely require that you complete verification forms and provide copies of you and your parents tax returns. The sooner you get this done the better in order to receive funds before school starts. Also, some need base scholarships provided by the school require the completion of a FAFSA. Funds do run out so it is important to inquire about scholarships provided by your university with a financial aid counselor Usually, schools will defer your fees until your aid comes in if they haven’t processed your aid yet.

* To be honest, sometimes it is better to wait to get books until after class starts to see what you *really* need. I cannot tell you how many times I have bought books from the list that were never used. Major textbooks most likely will be used but sometimes they add on unneccessary books.

Jshepard is right, it is fondant. You can buy it ready-made in stores that sell cake decorating supplies and ingredients, or you can make it from scratch. The first link in Sources is to a recipe for homemade rolled fondant from Wilton.com. The second is for marshmallow fondant from a cake decorator’s site.

As a cake decorating instructor, I have worked with the ready-made fondant and tried the marshmallow fondant recipe. The ready-made is the easiest to work with, but it has a taste (or maybe it is the doughy texture) that most people find off-putting. I much prefer the flavor and softer texture of the marshmallow fondant, which is easy to make.

If you are looking to buy the Wilton ready-made fondant, you’ll find it in the cake decorating aisle at craft stores like Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Joann Fabrics, and even in the craft section of SuperWalmart stores (near fabrics and silk flowers.) Fondant can be difficult to work with, so you may want to consider taking a cake decorating course. Wilton has a new Fondant and Gumpaste (used to make figures and delicate flowers) course that students can take after they have taken the beginning cake decorating class (course 1.)

Heck no! Cheesecakes are easy to make. Just remember to line the outside of the springform pan with aluminum foil and submerge it about half way in water while it bakes. That will help even out the baking as well as minimize the cracking that many baked cheesecakes undergo.

Also, it helps if you push some of the crumbs partway up the side of the pan. When it comes time to slice and serve, you should have a better chance of not breaking the crust. And be sure to use cookie/graham cracker crumbs and NOT using some cake as some storebought cheesecakes do.

Also, don’t worry if you can’t mix the batter perfectly smooth. Small lumps will go away during baking.

Vanilla Custard:
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 1/2 cups milk, divided
1/2 cup sugar
2 large egg yolks
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise, or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Hot chocolate:
7 ounces (2 chocolate bars) semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 cup milk, boiled

Sprinkle the cornstarch over 1/2 cup of the milk in a small bowl and whisk to dissolve. Add the sugar and egg yolks and whisk well.
In a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan over low heat, bring the remaining 2 cups of the milk and the vanilla bean just to a simmer. Remove the bean, scrape the vanilla seeds into the milk, and discard the bean. Gradually whisk the egg yolk mixture into the milk.

Cook, whisking often, until the sauce comes to a full boil, about 3 minutes. If using vanilla extract, stir it in now. Strain through a wire sieve into a bowl. Serve warm.

Add to the vanilla cream the chopped chocolate chunks and a boiled cup of milk. Mix until smooth. Any flavor can be added- raspberry, cinnamon, holiday ginger spice, marshmallows. The semi-sweet chocolate can be substituted with milk or white chocolate.

If you put US postage stamps on the letter, but put it in the Fedex drop box, the Fedex driver will just put it back into the US mailbox where it belongs, as people put letters in there by mistake all the time. In order to send something Fedex, you have to have a Fedex label on it, not just an address. And you have to pay for it, which starts at about 7 dollars. It’s a completely different process.

If you didn’t put any postage on it, it will eventually be returned to the return address you wrote on the envelope. If you didn’t write a return address on it, it’s gone.

What probably happened is that the shipper had created a label either online or on the software and is acct is most likely set up for shipping notifications which will email you when a label is created picked up delivered etc. A shipper can create as many label as he wants if it is not scanned by fedex they will not get charged so he may have just created the label and you got the automated email notification check the email it should have a tracking number in it…i would go to the website and track it and if it just says shipment initiated then it hasn’t been picked up and you would need to call the shipper to see what is going on and if there is another tracking number for you.

Spaghetti squash and it is a really good alternative to pasta. It is amazing how it looks and tastes like pasta:

1.
Decide if you’re going to split the spaghetti squash in half before or after cooking. You must cut it lengthwise, and that may be difficult because it’s 8 or 9 inches long. It’s easier to handle when soft, but it will take longer to cook it whole.
2.
Scrub the squash well. Though you’ll only be eating the flesh, you don’t want any grime making its way into your dish.
3.
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Split the squash, if you’ve decided to do it that way. Remove the seeds with a tablespoon. Before you cook spaghetti squash whole, prick it all over with a fork.
4.
Place it in a baking dish and leave it in the oven for an hour. Pierce it with a fork every 10 minutes to check if it’s tender. If you choose to cook it whole, let it cook all the way before splitting it and removing the seeds.
5.
Boil the spaghetti squash if you don’t want to turn on the oven. Pick a pot big enough to hold the whole or halved squash.
6.
Heat the water to a rolling boil. Place the squash in the pot and let it sit for 20 minutes. Check every 10 minutes with a fork until it’s done. Remove it from the pot and let it cool.
7.
Scrape the flesh of the tender squash into a large bowl. You should get orange spaghetti-like strands you can smother with sauce or add to recipes.

I saw that episode. Want to go to that restaurant. That did look good. I imagine braising it would be the best way. Baking or broiling would only serve to dry out the marrow. Boiling it would dissolve most of it in the soup. Good luck!
