Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Helen asks…

RE: IVF, If a fertilized embryo is frozen for 5 years then inseminated, surely the baby would have problems?

Does anyone else think IVF is just not natural?

I mean, sperm and egg weren’t meant to last outside of the Human Body for too long…yet scientists are now playing God by mixing sperm+egg in a Petri Dish, then freezing them for 5+ years…and then the couple decides years down the track to insert the embryo into the woman?

Surely there must be some long-term effects on the baby? Would a baby grow up “normal” if it had actually been frozen for 5 years before?! It just doesn’t seem right/natural and is not the way God intended couples to conceive!

Having children is NOT a right! If you are barren…then tough. That is your lot in life.

Michelle answers:

Oh where to begin. Have you seen some of the people in this world who are breeding? If someone wants a baby badly enough to turn to science then they are who should be having children not these 16yo crackys that have three kids. I’m sorry that you do not understand the world that you live in but please do not preach

Sandra asks…

What did you pregnant ladies do to conceive? Besides the obvious?

It’s been almost 3 years since my ectopic with tube removal. I am so beyond frustration!! I eat healthy take prenatals along with other minerals and still nothing! I am desperate! But not desperate enough for Clomid or IVF. I want to conceive all natural. I feel so down at times and sometimes less of a woman.

Michelle answers:

I know your frustrations. I had an ectopic about 5 years ago. About a year later I got pregnant and delivered a healthy baby boy. When he was 2 we decided to try again…2 miscarriages later I was so angry and sad…I couldn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I decided to not “try” so hard…well, still nothing happened. I then really started paying attention to my body…every period, cramp, everything I wrote down. Well, after about 2 or 3 months I knew when I was ovulating and all that…so we tried and boom….I am 18 weeks pregnant. I had sex before, during and after ovulation…lifted my butt up with a pillow for 10 minutes after.
Good Luck and I am sending baby dust 🙂

John asks…

How to release more than one egg?

I know it’s a long shot, but I was wondering if there is a way to get your ovaries to release more than one egg. Preferably, I’m looking for natural ways to get the ovaries to release 2 eggs, as I know you can have IVF, take certain drugs that will liken your chances of 2 eggs releasing, etc.

Does anyone know of any proven ways? Thanks, even if the answer is no!

Michelle answers:

Get your doctor to prescribe you CLOMID, its a fertility drug most use before resorting to IVF. It pushes your body to release eggs and 80% of the time more than one.
But I am a mother of twins and I hope you know that it is a huge responsibility if that is what you are trying to do. I wouldn’t recommend messing with nature and maybe finding someone with newborn twins and giving it a go for a day/night before you try.

Mary asks…

Embryo/egg donation? Or IVF in general?

Me and my husband are thinking of going down this route. What is the proccess involved with IVF? How do you get matched with an embryo in the UK? Is it possible to use my 2 free tries on the nhs for this or will I have to go private? Also will I/the child be able to know who the natural parents are?

We have to do embryo adoption/donation because me and my husband can’t have children. I can only carry. We had already gone through the tests previously before we met to determine this.

The reason I ask about details of the donor is because I wanted the child to know when they were old enough. My husband was adopted so we know all about the heartache of not knowing.

UK only please because it’s different of America. Cheers.
it’s different IN* America.
Also do the nhs have a list of donors or do I have to find a couple on my own?
I forgot, How many do they put in? As they’ll be frozen there’s a smaller chance than if they were fresh.
In the UK please.

Michelle answers:

Hiya think this sight may help it’s helped me over the years

http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/

go through nhs first see wot the clinic says, have a look at the ivf boards and stuff and ask some questions on here they will be able to help you loads more than i can.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy

Linda asks…

Has anyone tried natural family planning for pregnancy prevention?

What do you think of it? I’ve been on birth control for a long time and considering getting off of it. I just don’t want all those hormones going into my body. Both my husband and I don’t like condoms, so that’s out of the question. I did just a little bit of research about natural family planning. If anyone is doing it, which one are you doing and is it easy to follow?

Michelle answers:

NFP is using a woman’s natural signs of fertility to determine if she is in a fertile or infertile part of her cycle. A woman’s fertile window is 5-6 days long. This is because sperm, under good circumstances, can live for up to 5 days. A woman’s egg can only survive for about 12-24 hours. And once she has ovulated, she will not ovulate again in a cycle (with the rare exception of double ovulation – like for fraternal twins – and ovulation always takes place within 24 hours; all NFP rules take this into consideration).

So, how does a woman know if she is fertile? The menstrual cycle is dominated by 2 hormones: estrogen and progesterone. Before ovulation, when estrogen starts to kick in, the body starts to produce a special kind of cervical mucus that sort of resembles egg-whites. Her cervix also changes in its position, openness, and firmness. After ovulation, the body triggers a production of progesterone. This hormone makes the cervical mucus dry up, causes the cervix to lower and close, and causes a woman’s temperature to rise.

A woman using NFP watches the changes in her mucus, cervix and temperature and from that knowledge knows which part of the cycle she is in. If she is fertile (close to ovulation) and doesn’t want to get pregnant, then she will refrain from having sex. If it is before ovulation she can use special rules to know which days are safe for sex. After ovulation there is no chance of another ovulation so she can have sex at any time.

Learning NFP can be confusing at first, but it gets easier after the first 2-3 months. Once you learn the rules, it actually doesn’t require much thought at all! A minute a day to record your information and then you’re done. After I learned the method well, I didn’t chart after I confirmed ovulation either, so I really only charted the first half of my cycle and then took the second half off every month.

My husband & I have used NFP for 10 years now. We initially learned the Billings Method but because I had irregular cycles, it was difficult, so we switched to the sympto-thermal method as taught by the Couple to Couple league. It was such a big influence in our life & marriage that we went on to become NFP teachers. I love being able to talk to others about NFP. It is such a misunderstood form of family planning. It is more effective than any barrier methods and is about equal to the pill – WHEN USED CORRECTLY. That “when used correctly” part is what can give NFP a bad name. But it’s true for any kind of family planning. If you don’t take your pill every day or use a condom every time, then you reduce effectiveness. Well, if you have sex when you know you can be fertile, you don’t make your use of NFP very effective.

Most people who have unexpected pregnancies while using NFP get pregnant because they have sex too late in the early part of their cycle.

The most effective way to use NFP is after taking a class. If you don’t know of any classes in your area, go to www.omsoul.com and go to their teacher-finder section. Some organizations also do home study (Couple to Couple League) or online classes – (Northwest Family Services).

Our own personal experience is that we used NFP to postpone for the first 2 years of our marriage, though some very challenging situations. We then used NFP to help diagnose a medical disorder that would go on to give me infertility issues. Thanks to NFP I was able to conceive twice during cycles where, if I hadn’t been using NFP, I never would have known to keep trying because I ovulated so late in my cycle.

If it makes you feel any better, one of the first couples we ever taught used NFP successfully for over 5 years before they decided to be open to pregnancy.

Susan asks…

Are there any natural ways to prevent pregnancy after intercourse?

Anything that you can do or eat or something to prevent pregnancy after having sex? (besides the morning after pill)

Michelle answers:

Closing your legs

Steven asks…

What sorts of natural things help with pregnancy depression?

I got depressed in my last pregnancy too. I think it’s the constant fatigue and morning sickness in the 1st trimester. I remember in my first pregnancy it went away sometime in the first trimester, but right now it’s kicking my butt and I have 1 year old twins to take care of. They’re waking up from their nap, playing in their cribs together, and I’m dreading getting them up! How awful is that? They’re happy right now and I’m on my way in… sigh. But does anyone have any advice? I don’t want to take pills.

Thanks!

Michelle answers:

I actually take Effexor……..but I don’t take it during my first trimester. So just try to take time out for yourself and if they’re playing fine in their cribs let them play. It’s good for kids to learn how to entertain themselves and it’s good for mommy. Good Luck & God Bless.

Ruth asks…

Natural Ways to Help Constipation During Pregnancy?

I would like natural ways to help cure my constipation during pregnancy. Any ideas?
Thank-you everyone! I am getting some great answers! Keep answering! 🙂 Any more ideas?

Michelle answers:

You can drink some prune juice or eat pureed prunes(you would actually do the same for a constipated baby as well). Prunes are a natural laxative and they work quite well.
You could also try increasing your intake of fiber by eating more fruits and oatmeal.

Your Questions About Oldest Natural Pregnancy

Lizzie asks…

Is pregnancy something to be afraid of?

My husband and I just started trying to conceive but I have heard so much bad stuff about pregnancy such as women die during delivery, infections happening, stuff going wrong with the baby and I am terrified of needles so the idea of a fat needle going in my spinal cord scares me.We are very excited and we are ready after 4 yrs of marriage. My family is VERY fertile but I have irregular periods – They were regular on birth control – (I stopped birth control April 1st 2011). We have only been trying since May 5th 2011, so It may be too soon to tell if I am pregnant or not but I don’t have “pregnancy” symptoms such as sore breast, cramping, etc.. Should I just relax and wait to see what happens? It’s driving me crazy. i never knew that planning for a baby would make me so anxious. We are just doing the natural and waiting. We are not really trying we are just doing because trying can be too stressful. I am 29 years old (the same age that my mom was when she had me) We don’t have any diseases that run in the family but my mom did have a miscarriage once due to abuse. (Does miscarriage run in the family???) Just curious.

Michelle answers:

Pregnancy is nothing to be afraid of. Unfortunately some women have awful pregnancy experiences but most women have wonderful pregnancies! It is an amazing thing to go through and things going wrong are not as common as you would think. Remember you will always hear the worst horror stories which will stick with you but you won’t hear the millions of happy ones!

In my opinion, the best way to fall pregnant is to just not think about it and let nature take it’s course. Have fun with your husband and try not to dwell too much on symptoms until you are actually pregnant. If you want to speed up the process, you can buy ovulation predictor kits which will tell you when you are ovulating. I fell pregnant both times by letting nature have it’s say and it took me 2 months the first time and 7 months the second.

Miscarriages are unfortunately also something which can happen but that are not genetic so they don’t run in the family. The most common cause is an abnormality in the fetus which makes the fetus stop growing and naturally miscarries. There is NOTHING you can do to stop it so worrying about it is pointless. One miscarriage also doesn’t mean you will have another. In fact the odds go up of a successful pregnancy after a single miscarriage!

I hope that helps a bit. Fall pregnant first and then worry about how you will give birth. You can always choose natural with no pain medication which means no needles at all 🙂

Good luck!

Robert asks…

confused and scared positive pregnancy test help?

Hello first i should tell you why im scared i have a beautiful 3year old daughter and i have 3miscarriages under my belt after having my daughter my last one was the beginning of the year

Ive had one natural miscarriage at 15.5 weeks i lost twins the 2nd was at 9weeks and the most recent was at 7weeks the last two was d&c and i was told that i had low progesterone and if if got a positive test to start taking these pills again so i took one this morning after i got a positive ….i was NOT trying to get pregnant im scared it will end in heartbreak again and i don’t think i can mentally handle another miscarriage so soon the part that i am mostly scared of is i had a Xray on my wrist this last friday and i couldn’t remember when my period was and they didn’t test me for pregnancy so yeah im worried about that and i smoke i started smoking again after my last miscarriage. and i do heavy lifting at work…im so scared that this pregnancy has no chance because of the xray the lifting and the smoking.

I have had some light cramping i know this is normal during the first stage of pregnancy i took 2 test the first one was early this morning and it was very light so i waited a couple of hours and tested again..and it was slightly darker…very noticeable and showed up within seconds…..

What do i do? How do i tell my husband. we both didn’t want to try again because of the last heartbreak im happy but im scared all i could do was cry when i saw the positive because i want a baby so badly but i don’t want to get attached to a baby and then have a miscarriage again

Michelle answers:

A wrist x-ray will not hurt you in any way.

Thomas asks…

**** 2 weeks late – Still neg pregnancy tests? please advise ****?

Hello,

I am 22 years old and my husband and i are ttc with our 1st.

I had a miscarriage @ 6 weeks in July and the doctor adv to have 1 natural period and to try again.

I had my last period 22nd September (6 weeks a go)

I am having all of the same pregnancy symptoms as before – Swollen tummy, Period-Like pains (2-3 weeks now) urinating more often and feeling sick though i did a Pregnancy test yesterday and still got a neg response.

I have been to the docs and he was very unhelpful and said to re test next week!

Please help peeps :o) Thank you!!! x x x x

Ps; When i was pregnant in July my test showed positive @ 5 weeks!!!

Michelle answers:

Sometimes we stress ourselves out so much about being or not being pregnant that our body gets confused and actually believes its pregnant. I once was so stressed about being pregnant. I took 3 home pregnancies and they came back negative but still no period. I finally went to the doctor after 7 weeks with out a period and he said I was not pregnant. That put me more at ease and 3 days later I got my period.

Daniel asks…

tilted uterus in pregnancy??

hi all, 3 months ago i had a natural m/c at 5 wks, going from my dates im 7wks 5days preg again, i had an early scan today and was quite clear and seen the lil heartbeat fluttering away and all looked okay so far. i have a dating scan in 4weeks time. is there a high chance i may have a successful pregnancy this time????
also today the m/w said that i have a tilted uterus, does that have any complications???
any advise would be grateful, very anxious 20 yr old xxx

Michelle answers:

I have a tilted uterus and the only thing I ever had was some back pain later in the pregnancy also sex is a little uncomfortable because the vaginal canal goes back a little it’s not straight. I was told I had this with my 1st. I have had miscarriages but due to my PCOS not my uterus. I have a healthy 9 month old son and I’m 16 weeks along with #2. I’m 25 years old. It is natural to worry and with your previous loss you have every reason to. BUT most women who have had a loss go on to have a healthy pregnancy about 80 percent. You have a higher chance of having a healthy baby than you do of having another loss. Also a tilted uterus is not a big deal the uterus fills up as baby gets bigger (kind of like a balloon) and it will sit in a normal position when you get further along. But it just rests more towards the back and not the front (normally it sits forwards on the bladder). Your born with it like that and about 30 percent of women have a tilted uterus and a very very rare few women have tilted so far that they have a hard time getting preg. At all ( but that’s not the case with you or I). Hope I helped good luck and congrats.

Ruth asks…

is it possible for me to have a natural pregnancy?

so it turns out that my left ovary is the dominant one. i didn’t have a problem with this before, but a month ago i had this thing happened and the doctors had to remove my left ovary. i’m 22 now, and although i have no plan to have a baby in the next 5 years, i feel worried about my chance to have one. the doctor said that i could always have IVF, but he said my chance to have a natural one is pretty slim. i just want to know your opinion about this, do you think i still have a chance to have a natural pregnancy?
so far i’ve seen 2 doctors, and both of them are great! my mom asked me to see another one, u know, just to make sure, but i just couldn’t bear another same explanation. being told this kind of thing is bad enough, let alone having it repeated again and again. nevertheless, thank u guys! :))

Chris asks…

Is IVF and other forms of “doctor assisted” pregnancy an abomination?

OK whether you believe in God or in evolution, wouldn’t IVF and other forms of medically assisted pregnancies go against your belief?
For those who believe in God, wouldn’t it be up to Him if you conceive?
And for those who believe in evolution, wouldn’t natural selection dictate whether you conceive as well?
Not trying to be offensive just curious which belief you have and how you feel about medical fertilization.
*** Tracy, why are you so abusive? I never said one way or the other about what I believe. I simply wanted to know how others feel about IVF when they put their personal belief system into play. Get over yourself, I can’t believe your account has lasted as long as it has!***

Michelle answers:

I have often wondered about this. Why stop at IVF? Doesn’t all medication (diabetes) that enables a person to live that wouldn’t be able too without it weaken the species as a whole?

The current mentality is a result of the cultural evolution of compassion.

A straight “right or wrong”, “good idea or bad idea” and IVF would clearly be a mistake.

But if nothing else compassion is what makes us human. For better or worse it is our natural state to be compassionate.
And a lot of horrible medical conditions that require IVF is a result of bad choices or recessive genes.

In the grand scheme of things it doesn’t really matter. I would be more concerned about the genetic damage of using egg’s to create sperm and sperm to create eggs. Along with “designer babies” and genetic alterations to our genome.

Lisa asks…

With a 21 day cycle when should I start Clomid?

I am 40 and have a 1 year old son that was conceived via IVF. We were hoping for a natural pregnancy, nothing so far. My OB said she would give me 3 rounds of Clomid before going the IVF route again. I am getting an Rx and the instructions are to take cycle days 5-9…but I have 21 day cycle…does that seem right??? TIA!!!

Michelle answers:

I guess if that is what your dr said. But when I had taken it it was day 3-7, and that is what I have heard most do. But with your short cycle maybe that is why yours is different. Good luck, hope it works for you. It did for us however turned out to be an ectopic that ruptured.

Your Questions About Oldest Woman Natural Pregnancy

Lisa asks…

Would you disclose to Authority IF your son raped you?

And as a result, you are Pregnant!

As Philosopher Immanuel Kant said of Morality:

“There are 2 things in life which filled me with awe (of its multi-facets): the numbers of stars above me & the Morals within me.”
==============================
A dilemma of Choices for you:

1/ -If you agree:
– Then you are ingratitude to whom had given your incest born kid’s life (& perhaps Child supports).

-If you are a Liberal, would that be contradict to your conviction that there is no such thing as Inherited IQ or Genetic Superiority? That every one have the same Potentials, that they only need to strive hard to get success?

-You don’t love your son.

– You may be imprisoned for “Statutory” Rape if your son is under 18 (e.g. by exposing your butt to him)! LOL!

2/ -If you disagree: then you can be classified as “Pro-rape” by moral prudishs.
=====================================================

The fact is Homosapiens are JUST mammal of highest intelligence. And there is no such thing as rape in Mother Nature. She is amoral.

The fact is Rape has been Homosapien sexual practices ever since 250 000
years ago…Many of us are the Descendents of Rapists.

In fact, for most Human Civilization, Rape is not defined in Heterosexual Marriage.

From a Neo-Darwinist view, if Rape is such a bad Practice, then its descendents would be wiped out long time ago, and women would not be capable of pregnancy by rape.

From a classical Patriarchy Tradition, rape is the illegal stealing of another man’s property. Having said that, I must say Patriarchy view Men as beast of burden for women. So both genders get a fair share of “bad” deal to get along in such harsh existent past.

From an Archeologist View, if Homosapiens was born from a pair of Homo Erectus, or even a tiny group of them, should we conclude that Homosapien are the Result of Incests/Rape & Natural Genetic Culling?

From a Old Testament Bible view, we are descendants of Adam & Eva, then we would end up being Products of Incests?

Your though, please.

Michelle answers:

Yes, of course I would. Some might call that betrayal, but I call it protecting other people from experiencing the same thing. I would get an abortion if I was raped by my son. I think I’m not out of bounds for that, even though I can’t think of too many circumstances when I’d get any abortion. Getting raped and impregnated by family is the only one I can think of, in fact.

Donald asks…

Do “abortion is murder” people think the mothers should be executed/imprisoned for life?

Since you guys believe abortion is murder, are you for being consistent and sentencing these women to the same jail sentences as murderers? I’m talking 20 to life and the death penalty here.

Also, would you consider some miscarraiges manslaughter? Or, maybe it’s negligence? Since a life is lost, shouldn’t the mother be treated the same?

For example, if you have a child and you don’t take care of it properly and it dies, you can be charged for involuntary manslaughter sometimes, or something like that. So, if a pregnant woman drinks or does something else that leads to a natural miscarraige, shouldn’t she be arrested for it?

Also, since a large percentage of pregnancies get terminated naturally, and since everything natural is the result of God..isn’t he the biggest abortion doctor in history? Why does he abort so many pregnancies if all those weeks-old fetuses are life?

Michelle answers:

Abortion should be made as rare as possible, but legislation isn’t the key. In El Salvador, abortion is illegal in all circumstances. Should a woman show up at the ER with a perforated uterus, indicating that she has had a back-alley abortion, her body is treated as a crime scene and she is sent to prison. There are women there now serving sentences for having abortions (1).

Aside from this, the very people who decry abortion the most–Christians–are the ones who avail themselves the most of it. Here are the statistics by religious affiliation:

“Women identifying themselves as Protestants obtain 37.4% of all abortions in the U.S.; Catholic women account for 31.3%, Jewish women account for 1.3%, and women with no religious affiliation obtain 23.7% of all abortions. 18% of all abortions are performed on women who identify themselves as “Born-again/Evangelical” (2).

If anyone thinks this is site is biased against Christians and pro-life advocates, this comes from a pro-life source.

If conservative Christians really want to put an end to abortion, they should start by educating their own women since that is the single largest demographic receiving abortions.

If they really try to outlaw them, then we have some immediate and severe consequences. We immediately end up with the same situation that El Salvador has regarding women. Abortions will still go on, and women and physicians will be sent to our already overcrowded prisons for it. Do we want to release drug offenders (which I am in favor of to begin with) in order to make room for them, or do we want to spend more tax payer dollars fighting a war on abortion in addition to our war on drugs and war on terror?

The other consequence is that outlawing abortion will force women who have been raped, or whose lives are in danger of carrying to term, to carry those pregnancies to term. Then there are diseases such as Tay-Sachs or Harlequin-type ichthyosis which condemn children to a short, extremely painful existence. Instead of relieving them of that burden, outlawing abortion would in many cases force them into such a doomed existence.

I agree that abortion should not be used as a contraceptive. We have contraceptives to fill that role. However, we should not ban the procedure outright because it sometimes is the best solution to an ugly situation.

Helen asks…

Poll: For Women Who Have Naturally Gone Into Labor With at Least 2 Kids?

I’ve heard that you’re more likely to go into natural labor (not being induced) earlier with each pregnancy. For example: With your first pregnancy, you went into labor 4 days early. With your second pregnancy, you’re more likely to go into labor before you’d get to 4 days early…you’d be even earlier than that. Just wanted to take a little poll to see how many women experienced going into labor earlier with their second pregnancy over their first pregnancy and also see for how many women it was the opposite way. This is just for fun…not for anything else. Just curious. Also, has anyone else heard this? Is it an old wives tale type thing or is there actually some medical proof behind it.

Michelle answers:

Supposedly their is some medical truth to it, but personally, I know an equal number of people who go both ways.

My 2nd was 1 day later than my first.

Ken asks…

Liquid Sandpaper and Stain?

So, I”ve read and read and read about this. I cannot find an answer that applies specifically to my situation.

I have a Jenny Lind crib (very detailed railings, for those not familiar). I would love to sand and stain this a new richer darker color, but I hate sanding. Hate it.

That being said, I’ve been advised to use liquid sandpaper.

My parents originally applied a polyurethane to the bare wood without stain – to get a natural finish.

I would like to apply liquid sandpaper and then apply either a stain and a sealant or else a combo such as Miniwax carries.

I’ve read that liquid sandpaper will not remove an old stain – not an issue for me.
But I’ve wondered if it will take that polyurethane off of the wood to allow re-staining or if it would at least get most of the job done for me. It wouldn’t kill me to sand a little…

Has anyone any experience with this specific situation? Like I said, there’s no stain to remove.
I don’t want to paint the crib if I can possibly avoid this.
I just want to get a good stain on it without killing my back as I approach my 6th month of pregnancy.

And for all who just FREAKED out about a pregnant woman using harsh chemicals, trust me – if I won’t clean the litter boxes, I’m not going to throw caution to the wind with chemicals. I will wear all the appropriate gear and respirators required to keep baby safe. :o) As an interior designer by trade, I know how to do my job and still be safe. Take a look at Jennifer from Design Star…pregnant and painting with a huge mask on. That’ll be me – beautiful mama looking like something out of an ET film.

Michelle answers:

I don’t know about liquid sandpaper, but if you use Circa 1850 Stripper it will take the finish off…that is all you need to do as there is no stain on there. This particular stripper is safe for antiques, is easy to use, and will work well. Just follow the directions. To take the finish off those turned spindles you might have to use a toothbrush to get into the nooks and crannies. You should only have to sand the odd spot and you can always do a second coat if some is left on to cut down on sanding. I would suggest to use stain and finish separately. The combo stain/finish does not do as good a job, and it has a tendancy to run.

Cant cope with wife…IVF HELL! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!?

I am a male and Im unable to conceive the natural way. (due to a health condition)
I had to have a testiciclur biospsy in order for us to get sperm. I have sperm stored at the hospital (frozen)
In order to proceed with IVF (ICSI) we had to attend a seminar which was to educate us of the process. About 100 people attended the seminar.
I felt very uncomfortable, and so did my wife. As we entered the room where the seminar was being held my wife kicked off (stampinghher feet, hufffing, tutting) I tried to calm her down but she made it obvious to EVERYONE she didnt want to be there.
During the seminar she put cotton wool in her ears and started reading a book! Thought the whole seminar she was muttering things. My wife made the whole experience 100 times worse.
When I confronted her after the seminar, she stated that she felt very uncomfortable in the room. I explained that everyone was in the same boat and nobody was singled out. I also informed her that I was the one who had
the medical complaint, so if anyodoy should feel uncomfortable it should have been ME!
my wife cant see that she was in the wrong. Going through IVF is stressful and Im not sure she will be able to cope.
I tried talking to her about it and she has twisted things round and made me look the bad one (for being in a mood with her!)
I said to her last night that I dont think she is in the right right frame of mind to go ahead with IVF. Her reply was “go and find another women who will go through this for you!”
After some deep thought, I said maybe we should hold back on the IVF for a few years, She agreed and phoned me today to tell me she was called the hospital to cancel all treatment! She informs me she has put this in writing to them aswell.
Now shes blaming me!

Michelle answers:

Your wife is not ready to become a mother.
She has no compassion or patience and is self-absorbed.

There is absolutely no evidence to show that an IVF baby is more likely to have developmental issues than a naturally born baby. The processes are exactly the same, the only difference is that in IVF fertilization occurs outside of the body.

You also must realize that it is certainly not a baby that has been frozen for 5 years, rather a collection of single celled gametes.

P.S. (I am assuming you believe in god) If god created humans, and humans invented IVF, god created IVF.

Best IVF Doctor in UAE?

After a lot of consultations, I have realized that natural way ( even IUI) is never going to work for me. Can you suggest a good IVF doctor in UAE. Whom did you visit and how was the experience? I am considering Dr Ashraf of Al Taif/Craft. Has anyone been to Craft? How was experience there? I want to avoid unnecessary frustrations (TTC is frustrating enough) . I would like to deal with humane doctors. Please sahre your experiences with IVF

Michelle answers:

Hello

You are right – ttc using IVF or any other fertility treatment is incredibly frustrating. It’s one big waiting game.

I live in the UK but thought I’d give you a link to a site that I can highly recommned:-

www.fertilityfriends.co.uk

This is a UK based website however they have boards for lots of other countries including Dubai (not sure if that’s of any use to you) as well as clinic reviews for clinics that are outside the UK. Also, you’ll find lots and lots of support on this site from people in the same situation as you and will, of course, be able to ask questions to people who have experienced fertility treatment as well as those going through treatment now.

With regard to the clinics themselves I would adise you to contact each one that you are considering and ask to go along and see the clinic and meet some of the staff.

From my experience I think you will find that staff at fertility clinics are, by nature, quite kind, caring and sensitive to your situation and your needs.

I wish you the best of luck and send babydust your way.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Book

Lisa asks…

Questions about pregnancy?

I am not sure that I am pregnant, bf and I have been having sex and he has cum in me a lot, but if I am now or for future reference…

1. Is it safe to go into a hottub at all during preganancy? If yes, when?
2. My boyfriend lifts weights a ton and takes a few things that are all natural so not worried about that, but he wants to take methyl 1-D and I was wondering if that is safe and or good and could it affect chances of me getting pregnant and could it harm him a ton?
3. Also do you know if someone cums in you or if they make it up and say they did?
4. Also is it safe to go swimming during pregnancy?
5. Are there any good books you would recommend to answer more questions about all of this stuff?
What about getting a foil done while pregnant? What if you dont know you are pregnant and it happens or u go into the hot tub

Michelle answers:

1. No it isn’t safe to go into a hot tub at all during your pregnancy.

2. If Methyl 1-D is a steriod, then that will affect your chances of getting pregnant because using steriods actually does reduce a man’s sperm count.

3. Sometimes you could tell because it does tend to leak out of you after sex. But you never know, some guys could actually be lying about it also.

4. It is completely safe to go swimming during pregnancy.

5. The mother of all pregnancy books.
You could find it at babies r us and at other books stores. It’s very informative.

Thomas asks…

Pregnancy questions….?

I recently posted a question about a negative test and what I should do since I hadn’t had my period for the month of August and do not show any signs of having my period at all.

I am a smoker and want to know how to quit smoking effectively. I heard that if you quit suddenly it could be bad. Any websites or books would be helpful.

Food intake: what books are good for finding out the best foods to eat. Extra note: I do not like to eat meat! Also I do not drink milk. I prefer soymilk. What should I eat or drink to replace these? What is the best soy milk to drink while pregnant?

I have over the counter prenatal vitamins are those okay to take now until I find out for sure and a doctor prescribes me some?

Any other books or information about a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby will be great.

Also if I am pregnant I want to have a natural child birth. Only for the fact that I hate medication and I hate the feeling of being medicated. I seriously would rather die than to be medicated. I was medicated for surgery a few months ago because I was having bad headaches (didn’t have surgery they just did it because if my CAT scan showed something I was going in for surgery immediately). Is there anything to help me have a better child birth?

Any exercises better to do? I know yoga is really good and I am going to sign up for the next class.

Michelle answers:

Quitting suddenly is not bad–sometimes quitting immediately works for a lot of people if they are quiting for the right reasons and not for other people, i personally do not like to idea of have the nicotine patches as you are still getting the nicotine you are addicted too and i have seen a few times that it can make it harder to quit. So you have to know what would suit you better. Also figuring out the reasons why your smoke is a good idea as you can work on avoiding these and not ignoring WHY and instead opting to get away and smoke.

I like “Feeding your bump” a very good book about what to eat during pregnancy and it isn’t all filled with recipes which you’ll never make, but it does have a couple recipes in there.

Yes it if fine to take prenatal vitamins now. Just don’t take normal vitamins if you could be pregnant

A book i HIGHLY recommend for a natural birth is “Ina Mays Guide to Childbirth”, it is absolutely amazing and is a must read especially if you are wanting a natural birth.

If you want to chat about natural birth youre more than welcome to e-mail me, i can give you tips and advice etc =)

Nancy asks…

Wondering about labour from the moms out their!?

I know I have a long ways to go but I was just wondering * and yes ill ask my doctor) but I was just wondering when would you say to go to the hospital to give birth? I want to have an epidural and I know you can’t have it if your so many cm dilated, so would you maybe go earlier then someone who wanted an all natural birth?

And I think Ive been feeling my baby (quickening my pregnancy book calls it) But when i went to my doctors a week and a bit ago, She said I wouldn’t feel any movement for another 2-3 weeks. MY book even says from 16-20 weeks but by what she was trying to tell me not until Im 19-20 wks. This is my first pregnancy,
It feels like like taps but in my stomach under my belly button. And I know it wasnt gas, because I didnt have any…..(sorry tmi) And sometimes almost describe it as little flutters like when you get a butterfly but very faint…. Would this be the baby, And why would my doctor say YOU for sure wont feel anything until almost or 5 months pregnant.
Im 18 wks today! The first time I felt it, I think I was a little over 15 wks (however It was only for a quick second and only one time) its mostly been other then once again at 17 wks) been recently and I notice it when im sitting, at the cmp or laying down.
And sorry forgot too add, Do you remember how many weeks you were around before your partner or other people could feel your baby kick or punch ?

Michelle answers:

If you have to have a C-Section, a doctor will schedule for you to come in to get things started, the epidural and all.

If you happen to go into labor,…doctors will not just up and give you an epidural, not unless you request it, because the pain is too much for you to bare. Epidurals are safe but can be kinda risky…hopefully not too many doctors are pushing women into taking those pain killers, these days. ( For the sake of billing expenses.) Try to do natural with the aid of maybe something to help you sleep, relax you. If the pain is too much,…get the epidural, but of course.

As far as feeling your baby…dont listen to the doc when it comes to what your body feels…in regards to kicking. Those butterflies are the little baby floating around bumping into things. Just wait a few more months down the line, you will really be surprised by what your little one will be doing. Normally the partner can feel the baby four months on up..depending on the size of the baby and stomach. Some women have have extra weight around the belly area, which makes it harder for others to feel the baby…etc.

Congrats…enjoy the journey.

Maria asks…

C-section vs natural with twins.?

Hiya everyone

Ok i am 35 weeks pregnant with non id twin boys and just found out today that twin 2 is flexed breech and is very unlikely he will turn into position , twin 1 is head down ready for action!! All the way through my pregnancy we have planned for a natural birth, i already have a 5 year old son and had a natural birth no problems. The thing is i have heard so many horror stories about delivering breech babies and am starting to think i want to have a c section now just to avoid any problems that could happen during labour. I have another scan booked for next monday and am having a sweep and also getting an induction date for possible next week or the week after (36/37 weeks). My consultant has basically said its my choice what to do but i’m not sure, i do want to deliver naturally but not a breech baby but then i feel i’ll be cheating having a section.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Lets go mets – Get a life you sad little loser, hope you can never have kids!!

Michelle answers:

I say go for natural if you can, as long as there are no problems in pregnancy or labour i don’t see why not and you can give birth naturally to breech babies,or like the lady before me mentioned the baby could turn once the other twin is out. At the end of the day its your decision and if it was me id stick with natural cus the thought of c-section doesn’t sound nice to me obviously if it were an emergency then you have to do what’s best for the babies and you and its not cheating. But i wouldn’t opt for a section what with the healing and you’ll have 2 tiny babies to care for id wanna be up and around like i was when i had my daughter, so that’d be my choice talk with your midwife and consultant some more for re-assurance , all the best to you and your babys x

Sharon asks…

High risk pregnancy due to herpes….?

I got herpes when I was 15 years old and very irresponsible, am now 21 and 38 weeks pregnant. When I first found out I started to take Valtrex and noticed it only made thing much much more worse for me it made the outbreak longer, more often and just seemed to do nothing for me. I myself just stop taking them altogether and over the years have noticed I only get two outbreaks a year and its only for around three days, its more of an inconvience instead of a painful process. Now since I am pregnant my doctor put me on these which I haven taken since I was 15, and am now getting a small outbreak (havent had any this whole pregnancy) and I’m wondering if anyone out there is the same? I think this valtrex cause it to be worse before better and it dosent work. Also has anyone ever had an outbreak this close to delivery and still have it vaginally? I will not put my child at risk, but also wish I could have it natural if possible.
thanks cookie monster have not heard of any other type of medication. I’m following the doctors orders as planned but still wonder if I have a small outbreak now and it goes away within the next 2-3 days if I could give birth vaginaly as early as a week or two, as long as there are no signs of an outbreak?

Michelle answers:

No i have never had any sti or herpes or anything like that
But some medications make your condition worse before curing the symptoms

So i personally would keep on with the medications

Steven asks…

Epidural or Natural for some one with weak hips/lower back?

This is my first pregnancy and I am 6 months a long and I have had back & hip problems from years ago (I’m 27 yrs old) when I would travel and lug around heavy luggage at the airport etc. it would go out. I noticed unfortunately that it goes out when my uterus is stretching or when I am experiencing braxton hicks. I have a midwife and I am considering natural birth for sure but beings how my lower back and hip are very weak (I’m petite as well) would that even be a wise decision? Would l be feeling a lot of pain? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Michelle answers:

My best advice is to be flexible about whether you will go with the epidural or not. My choice was that I would try it without the epidural but if I decided that I wanted one while in labor I was to get it.

I was in a car wreck when I was 16 that caused me to lose all the cartiledge in one hip and about 70% in the other hip. They both slip out very easily and I’ve had terrible sciatic pain ever since. While I was pregnant I suffered a little more than normal, but while I was in labor my right hip went out and even though I knew it had it wasn’t as bad as the actual pain of contractions. I waited until I was 5cm dilated and then asked for the epidural.

If you have the option of a water birth, you might consider that. It’ll help take the pressure off your back and hips. My hospital doesn’t offer that.

I’m really glad I got the epidural, even though I was pretty set against it before labor. The last hour and a half of my labor were actually a lot of fun. I could talk to people, I could catch my breath, I could laugh. I wasn’t out of my mind with pain when my daughter came into the world and it was the most amazing moment of my life.

I’m now pregnant with my second child and I plan on trying it without the epidural again but if I change my mind while in labor that’s perfectly okay, too.

Good luck!

William asks…

How soon after a miscarriage can i have sex and try again?

I began my miscarriage on sunday 7/17/11. My fiance and i are very upset about the loss and would like to try again asap. I am 23 years old and the miscarriage was natural without d&c. I feel like the best way to feel better about losing my child is to be pregnant again. If you have been in this situation, please let me know when you were able to have a successful pregnancy after your miscarriage.

Michelle answers:

4-6 weeks hun. I am so sorry for ur loss . I also miscarried on that same exact date one year ago. And i miscarried again this past april. Have faith and keep trying. Good Luck!

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Thomas asks…

Has anyone with endometriosis had sucess getting pregnant after they tried accupuncture?

I have been ttc off and on for about 6 years now with no sucess. I dont have 20 grand just hanging out to pay for IVF so I wanted to try some natural solutions first. I heard some people have sucess after trying accupuncture so I was just curious about if anyone had any sucess on their own?

Michelle answers:

With prayers nothing is impossible. My wife was attacked with endometriosis 2009 here in Nigeria. After the attack, the doctor advised us to do away with the pregnancy cos it will not make it. He did the operation himself and we relaxed for some weeks say 3-4 before we went back to real action. Real action as in doing it for 13 consecutive days with some days having it twice different styles ie doggy, missionary, sideways, woman on top style. But note, we prayed very well for the pregnancy which came not long afterwards (2 months after). Now, the baby is exactly 1 year old today and my woman is expecting a baby before 25th December 2010. Dont be surprised, the 1 year old is pretty fine. You see, thats the wonders of the world which is very very very easy in the sight of our creator.

Helen asks…

What are the chances of normal conception if BOTH tubes are blocked?

Hi,

I had a HSG done and found that both my tubes are blocked, the doc suggested canulisation (?) or IVF. Can anyone tell me what are the chances of natural conception with blocked tubes, or any other answer is welcome.

Also, does anyone know any alternative medicine for blocked tubes?

Thanks

Michelle answers:

Ok honey! I also have 2 blocked tubes! I did try everything you can to unblock them! I did herbs and all kinda of stuff! I just did IVF and am 14 weeks pregnant! It can happen! But not the old fashion way! It soo hard to be told you can have a baby like everyone else! I know at first i never thought i would be able to afford IVF but i did! We went to Canada! It was a ton cheaper and was fun at the same time!

Email me if you ever need to talk!

Sandy asks…

TTC…IUI?…IVF?…Clomid only?…Prometrium only?…?

I recently had surgery to remove endometriosis. My doctor is now recommending I have more IUIs (I had one prior to surgery) or ultimately IVF. Should we try naturally for awhile? Should we try natural IUI (without stimulation from gonaditropins)? Is IVF the next step instead of wasting money on smaller proceedures first? Please let me know what you are doing/did or any stories you know of. We would have to take money out of our retirement money to do IVF (plus penalties) because we don’t have enough saved. BTW, I just turned 34 and am back in college until August 09, studing to be a surgical technologist (job and clinical apps involve lots of standing). Thanks in advance.

Michelle answers:

It really depends on how desperate you are to concieve if you have the patience wait and try naturally on your own for a couple months for any intervention. If you have fixed your only obstacle (removing endometriosis) theres a good chance you might concieve naturally straight away. (you won’t know till you try) but on the other hand if after 3-6 months still no success i wouldn’t waste my money on any smaller procedure i would jump straight to the top for ivf as it has the most success of working then any other fertility assistance.

I personally only had 1 iui before moving onto ivf, actually starting my 1st cycle this week, so i can’t give you a positve story yet, but statistically iui was 10% chance of working 1st time for us and ivf has 60% chance of working.

So my partner and i are opting for the better success rate for us.

I wish you lots of luck and hope you get that bfp soon.

Laura asks…

Do you find it interesting that feminists deny the relationship?

Feminists seems to ignore that fact that women’s current economic freedom is primarily due to their reproductive freedom.

But to understand the truth you must examine what is natural, women’s reproductive freedom is artificially constructed. Birth control, abortion and IVF are all artificial, they are unnatural. They are obviously necessary for women’s “reproductive rights” as feminists like to all them, but they are ARTIFICIAL.

This means that the so called “super woman” image feminists have been selling to the word is fake. Women’s natural biology conspires against feminists aims, if you remove the artificial variables from the situation (no birth control pill, abortion, IVF, Govt subsidizing single motherhood)
women’s lib would have little to know influence.

With the removal of all artificial variables, in the natural world women would be unable to compete against men, unless they planned on staying a virgin until they are ready to have kids. I can’t imagine a single woman who would stay a virgin that long.

That means under natural circumstances women would get pregnant in their late teens or early twenties without birth control and contraceptives, women are at a natural disadvantage, nature made it that way.

Feminists seem to get around this by saying “gender is a social construct” because they know women’s own biology under natural circumstances conspires against them and women as a group define their primary value in life by being a mother.

Feminists hate this the most because you can’t be at two places at once, you either choose to be a good mother or a good business person, you can’t have both.
How many women would put of sex, could they wait till their late twenties like they do know to have kids. I doubt it, they would get pregnant young and never get a chance at a career.
Natural means the removal of artificial variables.
Daycare is not a natural variable.
Yakuza Lady, if a woamns only goal in life is to be a mother then it’s not a disadvantage, if the want’s to be a business person and a mother at the same time. It IS as disadvantage.
womans not woamns
Spanx your statement does not disprove my point.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Donald asks…

Did natural inductions work for you?

I was just wondering if anyone used methods to induce themselves (sex, nipple stimulation, walking etc.) how long you did it for, what week in pregnancy you were and if it worked!?

My doctor pretty much told me I had to have the baby out or they were going to induce me, and while I can refuse, I was told that if I put it off longer than they were willing to do that I would have to find another doctor to deliver the baby – and at this point it’s kind of hard to find a doctor.

Thanks!
There is no medical reason, all they said was “we don’t like women to go over their due date at all.” and when I said that it was perfectly fine to wait a week or two after the due date they told me that their policy was to induce before the due date and if I didn’t agree to it, they wouldn’t agree to be there during the labor.
and at this point it’s pretty difficult to go out and find a doctor, so either I would show up at the ER and have some random doctor deliver the baby or go with the people I have been seeing for the last 9 months
being medically induced IS much different. The chemicals in the drugs block out the natural coping mechanisms in the woman’s body, the contractions last longer and stronger than normal contractions, and if ineffective a c-section is necessary due to the stress they then put on the baby.

Michelle answers:

I JUST asked the exact same question! ;o) lol..Im 37 weeks with my third
With Baby #1 I went to the doctor on a Monday, he said I was 1c dilated and secheduled my inducement for me to go in on Thursday night and have her Friday morning.. I had sex Tuesday night at 6pm and went right into labor.. Had her at 6:18 Wed morning!
With Baby#2 I was induced =( Tried EVERY SINGLE at home remdie (excpept castor oil) and NOTHING worked for me… I had both of my girls one day after their due date.
With #3, current pregnancy, my midwife says she wants to induce in 2 more weeks because he is already a big baby boy. I neither want to be induced, and kno i can refuse but i dont want to risk c-section because of his size.
Try going to the mall, walking for as LONG as you can HANDLE. Go home, try nipple stimulation on and off for a couple hours and have SEX ;o) Hopefully it’ll work better for you then it did for me with my second. Im not trying any at home remedies for another week, so wish me luck too please!! =)

Robert asks…

am 41 weeks pregnant am going to be induce on thursday november 18 this is my second pregnancy i had natural?

labour with my first, am hearing some bad things about induction and its really getting me scared i dont know what to really look forward to because i have never been induce before so i need to know if inducing labour is more painful than natural birth? or does inducing labour comes with a c- section? am also not feeling any pain in my tummy or my back the only pain am feeling every now and again is in my groin and sometimes it makes my vagina hurt so its hard for me to walk or even stand up.am so anxious can some one pls tell me all you know about inducing labour and if it is something bad i should worry about.

Michelle answers:

I’ve had all of my labors induced or helped along with pitocin. While it can sometimes be more painful, the contractions (at least for me) were more productive.
Don’t be scared about inducing, but whatever is medically relevant is what will happen. You may get a c-section, you may not. My births were as natural as possible and i had 3 healthy safe deliveries with inductions.
Be safe!

Laura asks…

More likely to have C-Section with induction?

I am being induced Friday 13th with Cervidil. This is my second pregnancy, the first was natural no induction no pain meds and no c-section. I was wondering if its more likely to have a c-section with an induction…. i am so scared to be induced and even more scared to have a c-section. So anyone with real info please help!
btw i am also 1-2 cms dilated but my cervix is sitting so high above babys head that its very difficult for them to check for dilation… will this pose a problem as well?

Michelle answers:

There is always the risk of a c-section with induction for two main reasons…they have broken the amniotic sac which means baby has to be born soon or the baby goes into fetal distress from the medications. Otherwise if the induction fails but the above two things don’t happen your doctor may decide to give it another week or two depending on baby and mother’s condition.
If it helps at all from very personal experience the induction was far worse then the c-section. I was induced the first time around since my water had broke but I was no where near going into labor. No contractions no dialating….nada. Given IV pitocin which is an evil evil drug that works very well at causing intense strong contractions. Had an epidural at 3 cm since I couldn’t stand it anylonger. Well long story short we ended up in fetal distress so they increased the dose even higher and topped off the epidural and told me to push and don’t stop. Son was born and I ended up rushed down to the operation room to stop internal bleeding.
Had a planned c-section with my daughter 4 years later. Granted the first 48 hours was a bit harder since they don’t let you out of bed the first day but I healed much faster and was able to breastfeed immediately after delivery. My son never did breastfeed even though I tried for 2 months…It took the doctor telling me it was formula or he wouldn’t survive that made me finally give up.
In the end the best advice I can give you is with the induction make sure they have an anesthesiologist on site before they start the pitocin. That way if you decide you need it they will be only a few minutes away instead of an hour or more away(found that out the hard way). It doesn’t truly matter how baby gets here as long as both baby and mom are healthy in the end.

Paul asks…

Natural labour and induction?

In your experiences if you went into labour naturally the first time did you go into labour naturally the 2nd time, likewise if you had to be induced the first time where you induced the second time, I know all pregnancies are different so please don’t give me that, this is purely out of interest

Michelle answers:

You never know what’s going to happen-my second baby came easily but my first I got induced which ended up in a Csection.

Typically labor comes easier with the second and third…and so on.
