Donna asks…
How long does it take to get FAFSA money?
I applied for the FAFSA near the end of February and I haven’t heard anything from them. When will I find out what I’ll get?? Thanks!
Michelle answers:
You should have received you Student Aid Report (SAR) by now… Especially if you did the application online. If you haven’t, you should contact FAFSA… They might have you redo it if you don’t have your PIN.
You won’t get any of the money until on/after the first day of the term you start. The money you receive will be minus the tuition and/or books.
Good luck in school!
Nancy asks…
Can I fill out FAFSA and put the college codes in before I even apply to those colleges?
& also, doesl FAFSA have pell grants (free money) or do I have to pay back everything they say I am eligible for?
Michelle answers:
Yes, you can list up to 10 schools on your fafsa. You do not have to have applied to those schools before you do this.
THe fafsa is an application for different types of financial aid. Some of them have to be paid back… (loans) some of them have to be earned by working (work study) and some of them do not have to be paid back (grants).
Only your school will be able to tell you which kind and how much of these forms of fin aid you qualify for. If you are only eligible for loans, then YES you will have to pay back everything you get.
Susan asks…
How do I claim my student loans from FAFSA?
I filed my FAFSA for the 2012-13 school year on January 1st, 2012 and I am a first year college student.
Michelle answers:
The money from FAFSA goes to the school that you are attending. After they take out your tuition and fees the school will refund any excess to you. Have you informed FAFSA of where you will be going to school?
Donald asks…
What parent should i use for filling out FAFSA?
Hi. Im 18 and need money for college. I live with my mom who is married to my stepfather. I was wondering if when i fill out FAFSA would it just go off of my moms income? Or would it go off of my stepfathers and my moms? Or could it go off of my real dads income because he makes less money then my stepfather. Thanks for your help i greatly appreciate it.
Michelle answers:
You live with your mom. So you would use your mom’s and your stepfathers income on your fafsa. You can and should not use your dads income. The instructions are very clear. You must use the “Set” of parents you live with.
Good luck.
