Michelle answers:

1. January 29th 2011
2. Having a baby girl
3. Destiny Elaine (her initials will match her Daddys. We choose Destiny because she is a miracle baby, I wasn’t supposed to be able to have children)
4. Feeling pretty stressed, nervous, excited, and fat
5. Daddy just had surgery yesterday, so he hates being in a sling. But he is so excited to be a dad, he’s wanted a baby for 14 years. He loves seeing other babies and can’t wait for his turn.
6. No other children
7. Feeling her moving around. It is such an incredible feeling, so surreal! I know when I have her, I’m going to miss her impatient little kicks
8. Weight gain/bloating. My tummy doesn’t bother me, but my thighs and arms are enough to make me cringe. I was skinny before, so I’m anxious to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight
9. I’m going to try for natrual, but if I can’t take it anymore, Ill get the epidural. But I’m going to try and tough it out. I think not feeling my legs would drive me crazy
10. Time is flying by. I still have so much to do, and I am constantly anxious about not having everything ready for her. Feels like the past 8 months have zoomed by. I wish I could go back and experience more of the pregnancy. Its all going to be over too soon for me!

Chris asks…

things to (or not to) eat/drink during early labour?

what are some good things to eat or things to completely stay away from when in early labour? this is my second pregnancy, and I have plans to eat and drink for as long as I feel comfortable. I’m having a drug free natural childbirth, so there won’t be any complications between foods and meds. any old wives tales out there? what about cold and hot foods how would they affect you…

what did you find easy to digest or somewhat therapeutic to eat during the early stages of labour?

Michelle answers:

Its better to eat and drink as long as you feel comfortable because you need energy for labor. No caffeine though. Water, Gatorade, Juice, Clear liquids. Don’t eat anything too heavy. Maybe crackers and cheese, Cereal, soup, sandwich, because remember sometimes you can get sick and throw it back up and I think the last thing you want in labor is a tummy ache as well. So eat things that YOU know don’t make your stomach upset, are nutritious and light.

Helen asks…

Is it safe to consume Slenda Lean weight loss shakes during lactation based on the following ingredients?

I have recently had a baby girl who is now currently 3 month’s old. I really want to lose all the pregnancy weight, especially the belly fat. And a friend of mine recommended Slenda Lean weight loss smoothies, which he has said works great for weight loss. I do breastfeed full time and i wanted to know if it would cause any side effects to the baby? The smoothies are to replace any ONE meal of the day.

What are the risks of taking these smoothies during lactation?

The container says this on the back aside from the ingredients:

“This product contains caffeine, which may cause insomnia, trembling, anxiety, palpitations, urinary frequency, and hyperactivity. Caffeine containing products should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.”

INGREDIENTS CONTAINED:

Ingredients: Safflower oil complex, dipotassium phosphate, mono and diglycerides, lecithin, tocopherols (to help protect flavor), natural flavor, and less than 2% silicon dioxide (anticaking agent)], soy protein isolate with isoflavones, fructose, soy protein concentrate, cellulose gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan), salt, silica,, Thermogenic and Metabolic Blend: green tea leaf extract, yerba mate, raspberry keytones and cocoa.

Michelle answers:

Congratulations on your brand new baby

i would consult a doctor first, only because it says: This product contains caffeine, which may cause insomnia, trembling, anxiety, palpitations, urinary frequency, and hyperactivity. Caffeine containing products should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.”

When you think about it, they put warnings on there for a reason. For example, they don’t put a warning on juice or cordial, because it’s safe for pregnancy and lactation, so anything with a warning, i would stay away from.
There are other ways of losing preagancy weight, you can work out when bubs asleep, there are yoga moves to do, incorprating bubs(look on internet), push bubs in a pram and walk.
Also be careful when dieting while breatfeeding, you need to take care of yourself, because you give bubs the nutrients, not anyone else
goodluck

Open question to teen babysitters, people with kids?

My niece (I call her that, but she’s my cousin’s daughter) is being raised in a household with lots of arguments and little parental involvement. She’s only two but instead of juice, she’s given cola, and nobody seems to think anthing is wrong with that. The TV is left on all the time and she is hardly ever read to. She is a naturally curious and inquisitive child but I’m afraid that she will turn out like her older cousin who eats too much junk food and watches TV all the time, literally. Her parents aren’t abusive but on the other hand they don’t seem to care about her development very much.(Her mother’s pregnancy was not planned.) I am only 16 and would feel akward suggesting parenting tips. I pray for her all the time. Every time I go over to see her I get depressed. Should I just continue trying to be a good influence- reading to her and feeding her natural food and praising her efforts or…what?

Michelle answers:

Yes, just continue to be a good role model in her life. It is a shame she is living the life she is, but at your age, what you are already doing is all you can do. The older you get, the more you may be able to do for her. Keep up the good work, she is lucky to have you!
