Ken asks…
Should I let the dr induce me at 39 weeks? (second pregnancy)?
Both of my pregnancies have been ‘perfect’. no complications, right weight gain, healthy babies from ultrasounds. But my first delivery was terrible! i tore really really bad. my son weighed 7 lbs 14 oz. i have a small frame too. well this time around, my dr wants to induce me at 39 weeks to prevent our little girl from getting too big and risk me tearing horribly again this time around. should i let them induce me or just wait it out? i heard induction labor hurts worse than natural. i went all natural with my first, no pain meds! i’m hoping to do the same with this one.
Michelle answers:
I tore third degree with my first as well. She was 8lb 6oz and born two weeks early. When i was pregnant with my second one, i measured large again, and the doctors decided to induce me on my due date to avoid her getting too big for me.
Well, i got induced and she was only 7lb 2oz…i had a HORRIBLE labor and ended up with a c-section…If i were you, i would not get induced just to avoid having a big baby…ultrasounds and doctors are not always right.

Laura asks…
pregnancy ? for my friend.need answers ASAP!?
ok so she is 40 wks and 2 days.she is freakin miserable! trust me if u saw her u would hurt for her. she has tried walking, NASTY castor oil, sex, and nipple stimulation.none of it has worked.:( we heard that blue and black cohosh will work but does it really work or is it like the other crap that doesn’t work and how soon did it work for u if it worked? and is it safe? any other things to help naturally induce labor too is welcome.oh and btw she is supposed to go to the doctor tomorrow and schedule an induction but she wants it to come natural and heard that induction can put stress on the baby and it hurts.so help please.
Michelle answers:
When she goes to the doctor tomorrow ask him to give her a membrane sweep its a little uncomfortable but may work if her cervix is already starting to open!! I had this with my second and unfortunately it did not work but this was at 38 wks. I also had it with my last child and i knew before i had even left the hospital i was starting to go into labour. At 40 wks and 2 days this should work for your friend!!!

Joseph asks…
Is it a good idea to ask to go beyond your given induction date?
Hi, i’m 40 weeks (and 4 days overdue). The hospital have given me a day to be induced in 6 days time. I’ve been hoping for a natural labour and I hear many people do ask for induction to be put off in the hope that baby comes earlier. Have many of you chosen to do this? And did it work, or did you end up having to be induced anyway? I’ve had a good pregnancy so far with no complications but i’m worried that leaving the baby in the womb for too long could make it distressed. Congrats to all xx
Michelle answers:
The only problem would be the longer the baby is in the womb the more weight its’ going to gain … Do you know the estimate of the weigh so far? Does your doctor think that you will have a problem passing through the birth canal?
I was induced at 39 weeks, due to a last minute complication and the doctor ended up telling me that if i had waited until 40 weeks, I would have been looking at an emergency c-section — everyone is different — now I know my body will not pass a child than is over 8lbs
— just because I was induced didn’t mean that I didn’t have a wonderful experience giving a drug-free natural birth — it was an excellent child birthing experiencing
good luck … Congrats ?

Betty asks…
First time pregnancy, how many of you were under 3 days past your due date?
I’m just wondering, because I have a lot of people flying in. (grandparents) I am going to use hynobirth and a monitrice to help me along (but am going to one of the best hospitals in my city to deliver).
My mom is worried I will be a week or more late, and she said she would want me to be induced. Of course, it’s my pregnancy and my choice-and the monitrice will teach in the class we are taking when induction is necessary and when it is not. I want to have a natural birth, and she strongly suggests not being induced if it is not for a medical reason (other than one being past the due date)…other wise your chances of having a natural birth goes down. (since the contractions are brought on stronger and sooner and with no breaks like a real labor)
So I’m just wondering-are there any women out there who have not gone 3 days past their due date on their first pregnancy? What should I do, when I have grandparents who want to be here for the birth?
Who knows, maybe I’ll end up going 2 or 3 weeks early…but I’ve had a very uncomplicated and easy pregnancy, so I doubt that.
Thanks!

My first son came exactly on time. His due date was April 10, 2005 and that’s when he arrived. It was after about 45 hours of labor. Went to the hospital & was a full 4cm. I had an epidural and was able to get some rest then started pushing at 6:30 pm & had him out @ 6:46 pm.
My second boy was late (8 days) I had to be induced b/c they were afraid of him getting to big for me to push out. The induction went great I was set up w/ the pitocin around 12:30-1 pm, got the epidural around 2pm and started pushing around 6:05 pm & had him out @ 6:14 pm! February 28,2007.
Last fella was due March 29, 2008 and I was 4 cm when I finally went into active labor on March 27, 2008. I had no time for an epidural and it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done! It was the worst pain I’ve ever had or been through I wanted an epidural so bad. I went from 4 cent. To 7 cent. In about and hour & 1/2 which was about the time it took us from the bed at home to the hospital bed. Then I went from 7 to 10 in less than an hour 6:56 am it only took me about 3 pushes to get him out b/c the pain was so unbearable! I will say the recovery was a lot different than when I got the epidural. I told you each one so that you can see the extreme differences of each labor & delivery. Just be prepared for the possibility of things not going the way you want them to go. You will do great no matter how you get that baby in your arms! Good Luck & Congratulations!
