9-Year-Old Girl Gives Birth in Brazil
People: 8 July 2006, Saturday.
A 9-year-old gave birth to a baby girl in the Amazon jungle after undergoing a Caesarean section earlier this week, authorities announced.
It is suspected that the pregnancy may have been the result of rape. An investigation has been launched.
The girl was found in the jungle in April by laborers working on a natural gas pipeline from the Coari oil fields to Manaus, a city of 1.5 million people 1,800 miles northwest of Rio de Janeiro, a spokesman for the local healthcare administration said.
She was taken to Manaus, the capital of the Amazon state, and went into labor on Thursday.
The baby, weighing 2.2 kilograms, is said to be in good health.
The mother, of the Apurina tribe, has refused to speak, and the identity of the infant’s father was unknown.

What is the theological basis of the Catholic ban on condoms?
The Roman Catholic Church allows “natural family planning” (a form of the old “rhythm” method of avoiding pregnancy while still having sex) so what is the theological basis for banning the use of condoms?
Let it be stated for the record here that there is NO wasting of sperm or ova if there is no sex done as these are formed in the same amounts whether the sex act is committed or not.
Also, let us keep the discussion about married couples, so that we are not tackling the question of sex outside of wedlock.
Sorry I asked the question as I certainly recived a lot of BS answers. That Genesis reference was really off the wall.
Adios, amigos…
Michelle answers:
Sex must always be open to having children because that is what sex is meant to do. Contraceptives prevent Gods will from being done; they push God away. It’s an extremely selfish and mocking thing to have protected sex. The real “protection” is in waiting until marriage to have sex and honoring God.
NFP is respected because it is still open to having a child. It does not prevent pregnancy, rather it helps couples have sex when they’re least likely to conceive. NFP also helps couples to conceive by letting them know when the best times of the month are. It does not push God out of a marriage, rather it allows Him to do His will through each couple.
Edit: Contraceptives are not the answer to prevent abortion – what an arrogant and rude thing to say. The way to prevent abortion is by not having sex if you’re not ready for the consequence. Are we such a weak society that we can’t practice self control and respect for our fellow human beings?
I’d also like to add that “the pill” is more than just a preventative, it’s a murdering agent. It makes the lining of the uterus toxic so that if an egg is fertilized the lining kills it right away. There is no respect for God or humanity in that.
