Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Book

Donald asks…

Is anyone else insulted by this?

I can’t believe that in all the pregnancy books I have and all the emails I get they all bang on so much about weight gain. And not about gaining lots, about how not to gain too much. I can’t believe it! Isn’t it enough with all the bloody pressure that’s on us women over how we look when we’re not pregnant, can’t we have a break? Aren’t our bodies undergoing a natural process that we don’t have any control over? I think the miracle we make with our bodies makes us beautiful no matter what our size. I’m all for being healthy but the next time I hear the phrase ‘post-baby body’ again I am going to scream. Sorry about my little tantrum there but seriously, anyone else find this really ridiculous?

And PS, before you say it, I’ve unsubscribed to the offending emails and stopped reading those particular books.
I would like to point out that I do say I am all for being healthy, like eating well and exercising. Just not with a weight goal in mind.

Michelle answers:

I found alot of pressure to become skinny again almost immediately after my son was born, and it was soul crushing.
I was a stripper before I got pregnant and wanted my tight flat tummy back again, but unfortunately I was only eating 200 calories a day to maintain that skinny body, and when I got pregnant and ate like a noraml person, my body went into storage overdrive and I gained ALOT of weight. 84lbs to be exact. My OBGYN was pissed, and I cried all of the time from everyone and their mother telling me how I was gaining too much.

Now my son will be 2 on friday and I am still slightly overweight. And finally I am comfortable in my own skin. Now that the pressure is off and the sites and doctors arent nagging me anymore, I can finally feel comfortable in my curvy body for the first time in my life EVER.

Dont let the pressure get to you, stay strong girl (or throw the evil books at hubby when he does something stupid)… Two bird with one stone (er… Book!)

Healthy eating = more kilos? please help me understand?

last monday i was obese (117kgs also known as 257.4 lbs) i was eatting rubbish, not exercising at all, i was smoking a pack a day.

last Tuesday i discovered i was pregnant. My husband and i are over the moon! we raced out and bought a book about pregnancy.
following the books advice i quit smoking immediately, stoped drinking soft drink, gave up caffenine. started eating only natural sugars (from fruit etc) and complex carbs. i follow a healthy food pyramid. and drink loads of water.
i started walking for 30mins every morning and an hour in the evenings most days.

here i am a week later and i have put on two more kilos (4.4 pounds).

the baby is the size of an apple seed, and at 6 weeks i am not showing at all. so it’s not “baby weight”.

please help me understand?

Michelle answers:

There is nothing to worry about!

You mentioned you drink ‘loads’ of water. That is most likely the problem, just a build up of fluid. If you drink a lot of water your body does not use or urinate every drop, much of it is stored in the interstitial fluid (the fluid that surrounds all your cells) and therefore will contribute to any additional weight gains. I used to run heaps and monitor my weight, when I first started i drank heaps of water but wasn’t losing weight, I consulted a physio and he said it was fluid build up. Which is not a problem because it will go away on its own. If your really concerned see your dietitian for a face 2 face expert opinion.

Must mention.. It is excellent that you are keeping a healthy lifestyle and exercising regularly. Good Luck congratulations :]

Your body is preparing for the baby, you can’t see it, but it is.

Congrats on being healthy for your baby! 😉

Sandra asks…

pregnancy-has anyone been induced after having a ceserian with first bub.?

I wanted to attempt vbac but unfortunately i have gestational diabetes as long with me already being a high risk from having a ceserian last time. I really wanted to go naturally this time, experience it atleast, even my water breaking. I am booked for a ceserian on the 11 as they say its a high risk for scar rupture as contractions increase when being induced..BUT… has anyone been induced after having a ceserian. my ces was breech but this baby is head down, if only i could get this baby out of me before the ceserian theyll give me a trial vbac for as long as 11 hours, seeing if things progress. ok im not trying castor oil as i dont want diarhea during my labour, and i mean constant, not just a poop, lol. I have tried chamomile, any one know if that works, i heard it does, two strong cups, still nothing.. wiggling my hips around, sex.. but not much as hubby feels too uncomfertable.. walking 1.6 kms a day, im just freaking out, i dont want this ceserian again, i dont have anyone to care for my son when it happens..I need this baby out of me, alot of information would be helpful..so questions..
Any other natural ways of inducing besides what i have done..
And have you or anyone else been induced after havign a ceserian, did it go well , and so on, and babies with gestational diabetes, anything risky or scary that i should be aware of.

Michelle answers:

Doctors normally won’t let you delivery vaginally once you’ve had a c-section… Especially if you’re high risk.
