Paul asks…
How was your induction?
I am over due with baby number 3, getting an induction on saturday morning.
How far along were you when you got your induction done?
which number pregnancy was it?
what was the process like, what exactly did they do?
How long were you in labor?
could you walk around, go in the bath?
**i have had an induction before, with my first my water broke and contractions did not start on their own so they started a pitocin drip, so i do know the pain difference in a natural and induced labor, im just not sure how it works when its a planned induction. also the doctor told me i wouldnt be getting cervidil before hand because i am already dilated to 3 cms**
any other tips or advice?
thx u ladies.
Michelle answers:
I was 40 weeks and 3 days when I got induced. It was my first and second pregnancy. They put the IV in my arm and started the pitocin. I was in labor for 6.5 hours with my first and about 16 with the second. I went to the bathroom but I did not get up and walk around. I slept a lot until the contractions started up again.

Carol asks…
is it normal not to have an internal exam at 40 weeks pregnant?
i am 40 weeks pregnant, due today, but i did not have an internal exam at my doctor’s visit yesterday or the one before that which was last week, and am now scheduled for an induction on the 22nd. this is my third pregnancy. the other two were natural births with no complications. i also want to know if it’s true that you cannot have an epidural with your third pregnancy, even if you have never had one.
Michelle answers:
Seems a little weird.
Some Dr’s (mostly alot more midwives though) don’t believe in internal exams. They believe that it can introduce infection.
Most OB’s do though and if you’ve had them up until now, it seems a little strange that they wouldn’t have checked you.
Personally, I would have asked for one, just because Id be curious if I was dilated or not.
Im almost 35 weeks pregnant now and Im definitely going to ask to be checked next week at my appointment.
That all said, you dont really NEED an exam. Its not going to change anything for you or the Dr. You know?
Ive never heard the epidural thing eather. Im sure you can get one with this being your 3rd. This is my 3rd too and although mine have all been c-sections (this one will be too) I will have to get another spinal. The spinal for the c-sections is the same procedure exactly, just a diffrent medication.
I hope that all helped.
Congrats BTW!!! =)

Induction vs. Natural Labor : How will I know?
I was induced with my first child and I am now 38 weeks pregnant with my second. With my first I had pre-eclampsia but this pregnancy has been problem free, so I am looking forward to having a natural labor. Can anyone offer their expertise as far as the difference between induction and natural?
Michelle answers:
Congrats!
You will know when you go into spontaneous labour. Keep in mind that for some women, the labour begins when the waters break. It wasn’t like that for me.
Both times I had constant aching back pains for about 24 hours before the contractions began. Then they’ve started and I’ve thought it was a bit stronger than the braxton hicks I had been feeling. After some time the contractions start to become stronger and stronger and start to come in a pattern and you’re on your way. Even after having 1 child, I still worried with my 2nd that I wouldn’t know if it was real or not but there was absolutely no mistaking it lol.
Whilst I’ve never been induced, my sister has and she explained to me that there’s no build up. When you have a natural labour, the pain comes but it comes in waves. It hits a peak in the midst of the contraction before the pain settles again. My sister says there was no peak for her, the pain was the same from start to finish, and a lot more intense.
Hope that kinda made sense to you. I worry about the possibility of being induced. Everybody scares you with horror stories and I’m a little freaked out by it all.
Good luck with your delivery =)

This one is really hard but it has worked for my sister three times, she got a bottle of castor oil and grape juice and put them in a container and mixed it up, it wont really mix, and then she tried to drink it, and then she gagged and spit it all up in my back yard and went on a little jog, breast pumping is another way, having sex, going down an unpaved road, getting diarrhea can do it, the still birth thing they say just to scare you into getting an induction, maybe they get paid more by insurance companies for it. But the castor oil use grape juice because it covers the taste more than anything else can, and going to a light job or power walking has worked for my sister who wanted to have her baby out of the hospital before thanksgiving so she can take the baby to see the family all at once and she didn’t want hospital food for thanksgiving too. Castor oil is truly disgusting but it works.
