Has anyone had hydrosalpinx and conceived?
Has anyone here or anyone that you know had conceived either naturally or with clomid without removing the tube with hydrosalpinx? I have read that hydrosalpinx reduces the chances of successful IVF. But I want to know the chances of natural conceiving. The dr. has put me on clomid before opting to remove the affected tube (followed by IVF). So, I am wondering what’s my chances are now….
Michelle answers:
Everyone I have known with hydrosalpinx has had their tubes removed or cauterized before doing IVF. Most RE’s would strongly advise that you remove them because with hydros the toxic fluid from the tubes can leak the uterus preventing implantation. After the time, energy, and money invested in IVF, you wouldn’t want to risks that. Removing or cauterizing the hydros increase IVF success rate x2.
If you haven’t, you can have a hysteroscopy to remove tissue from your uterus to check for certain that there is no fluid leaking into tubes before you consider IVF.
One thing about damaged tubes and IVF (or conceiving naturally) is your chance for a tubal pregnancy increase. When there is a damaged tube, the embryos transferred can adhere to the tube and that tube is not strong enough to push it back into the uterus. I do not have hydros but had damaged tubes. I did have a tubal pregnancy after my 2nd IVF attempt and lost that tube.
I recommend having them taken care of, leaking fluid or not. Get a second opinion from another RE just to be sure.
I would also check out http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/forums/index.php? You can ask more questions here and find women who have hydrosalpinx that can share their stories with you.
Best of luck!

Polycystic ovation syndrom?
I recently got diagnosed with pcos and was just wondering if anybody else has and have had kids and if u did have kids was it natural or threw ivf or any other way and how dis u cope when your friends fall pregnant as a close friend of mine just told me and my hubby that they are having a baby they fell pregnant straight away and we have been trying for 1 year and 4 months and i feel so jealous and wish it was us but i dont want to feel like this as she if a close friend.
Michelle answers:
I have pcos and currently on metformin to help with my insulin resistance which is a big factor with pcos. After being on metformin for a year and a half my hormone levels were normal and I conceived in April but miscarried at 7 weeks due to low progesterone levels.. It is possible to conceive with pcos, us pcos sisters just need a little help. When I found out I researched like crazy and joined support groups and bought books to better inform my self of it.. If you are overweight I suggest at least walking for 30 mins a day or more.. Watch what you eat, you will be amazed at how your body will do better when you eat right and take care of yourself.. But to answer your ? I have had many friends who needed help and some like me who just took metformin and it helped… It will happen for you and just be happy for your friend, I know it is hard but have faith that you will be a mommy soon some day… Good luck and lots and lots of baby dust to you!!!!
Feel free to email me at ardienick on yahoo if you would just like to talk or just to get more info.

Chris asks…
Gender Selection crisis?
I was interested in gender selection but my husband is not for it one but. We have two sons who i love and now id like a daughter, no not to dress up in pretty pink clothes but because i want to experience a mother, daughter relationship. i dont have any expectations of my “daughter” i dont need her to be girly or anything so i know im not doing it for selfish reasons. i spose i see it as if medical science can help me by giving me a daughter then why not? I asked my Husband to think about it, so research it with me, i told him id wait years if that would help but he just said “NO!” and said i was crazy and selfish. He would like to try naturally because ivf isnt natural and is crazy. i think thats selfish for him to say. i had a c section with both my children (not through choice) so medically i cant keep trying to a girl, its dangerous and my husband said we could only have three anyway as thats his limit…i’m upset as i know this is the path i want to go,. what should i do? I’m so unsure.
Michelle answers:
You aren’t doing this for selfish reasons!
Wake up woman. Of course you are. Why is it necessary for you top have another child or to experience a mother daughter relationship?
I’m incensed at the way we view children in the western world. We don’t look at having children for what we can do for them but as a life style accessory for what they can do for us.
This is so wrong
