Your Questions About Natural Ivf Cycle

Charles asks…

Why is pregnancy success only about 20% in humans?

Are the reasons chromosomal disorders during gametogenesis (spermogenesis and oogenesis) or the main reason is because it is very hard for embryo to implant in the uterus? Is the pregnancy rate in IVF higher or lower than natural conception? Is the pregnancy rate in other mammals same as humans or higher or lower (those mammals that have many reproductive cycles during year like humans, not just two like dogs)?

Michelle answers:

Hard to tell really. I mean in a zoo is NOT the same as animals would act in the wild (no matter how we try to stimulate their environment). Often in zoo’s animals are reproductive assisted (controlled reproduction). Also i believe mentally and emotionally, compared to other animals humans are very sensitive, many disorders can be mentally related or emotionally (trauma as a child for instance) I’m sure the pregnancy rate in IVF is higher, because of the controlled elements (it’s known EXACTLY when you ovulate, the weak sperm are canceled out, your ovaries are put in hyper drives, giving more then one or two eggs), i know the twin rate is higher.

George asks…

just need some words of encouragement?

Well I had my 2nd DIUI on November 9th. Sperm count was over 20 mil and motility was 79%. I am doing natural cycle iui with no medications. So I have been reading on here and other sites, and I get so discouraged everytime I read something. Women try IUI’s over and over again and most of them fail. They then go to IVF. Our money situation is not in the cards for very many IUI’s and definatley not IVF. Plus hubby says absolutely not when it comes to IVF. Cant chance multiples and would never have that kind of money. Insurance dont pay for any type of fertlity treatment so everything is out of pocket. I am still only 9 dpdiui but feel like its not going to be my month. Re did put me on 200mg of Prometrium daily, so I know all the cramps and breast tenderness is from that. Has anyone wanted to have a baby and cant have it the natural way and not have any money to do the many fertlity stuff. Thanks in advance and baby dust to all of you who have a chance of conceiving naturally and have the money to keep doing fertility treatments.

Oh, I am 31 so the time is getting short.

Michelle answers:

Try to think positive! I have no experience with IUI, but do think you need to keep your spirits up. Good luck and hope this is your month!

Ken asks…

Should I have a baby?

My doctor has told me that i need to have a child a.s.a.p and i am thinking about starting an ivf cycle. Problem is I am 19 and have severe Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). This may be my only chance to conceive and generally after child birth PCOS gets better. I have only just started my career and now have been faced with this.

Would really like thoughts/ideas. I have always imagined having a natural baby and chances are if i don’t have a child within the next year i never will – i just didn’t think it would be when i was 19!. WHAT DO I DO?? HELP PLEASE
I have had the same partner for 4 years and we are going to get married (at some stage). I appreciate the help! I have had so many different opinions from Family and friends therefore i turned to this forum.

I will take on board what everyone said.

Thanks a lot

Michelle answers:

Well personally if it was up to me I would but I’m 21 now and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 1/2 yrs since I got married…and yes I know I was young when I got married and I still am but i’m happy and we are financially stable so I don’t even have to work….so it’s perfect time for me but I as well as you have PCOS and I’m having alot of trouble getting pregnant cuz I have irregular periods and am not ovulating so I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to have kids. But if you are definately sure you don’t want a child right now then you should go through with it and put the child up for adoption. There are many souls like me out there that wants a baby but can’t and would love to adopt it out. I hope I helped you out hun and good luck….god bless…*Beth*

William asks…

After my third unsuccessful round of Clomid…..?

I am thinking of asking to be switched to gonal F.

I have unexplained infertility (open tubes, regular ovulation, husband has good sperm count) and this will be month 20 of TTC. I had a chemical pregnancy 8 months ago on a natural cycle. I may possibly have low progesterone after ovulation, since my luteal phase varies a bit and I get some spotting before AF. My RE thinks I could have mild PCOS but I do not present with the typical symptoms and do not have polycystic ovaries. Either way, I always ovulate.
I responded well to Clomid, getting 3-6 mature follicles per month, though I noticed that my period was much much lighter, despite the fact that they said my lining was not too thin.

I am honestly thinking of asking to be switched to gonal F, since my insurance will cover most of the cost. I am wondering if anyone out there who responded to clomid but did not get pregnant, responded well to gonal F?
Also, did you ask to have any additional testing for unexplained infertility before moving on to injectibles or IVF?
Hi Sweeheart- your story gives me hope! My RE won’t prescribe Femara because it’s not approved for use in pregnancy, which is why I was wondering about Gonal F on its own.
I am thinking of taking next month off from meds and charting.

Michelle answers:

Hey hun! Well as you know I too have a milder case of PCOS. Clomid totally didn’t work for me because it over worked. Gonal-f + Femara was what worked for me. I know that even thought there is mild PCOS, they monitor you really close. PCOS girls are known to overstimulate on Gonal-f. My RE’s office told me that the Gonal-f helps give you good quality eggs and when they release, a good strong corpus luteum. At the time of treatment, I wasn’t ovulating on my own. The quality is very important. PCOS exposes our eggs to random hormone fluctuations and that can hurt the quality of the eggs. You will have many ultrasounds and blood work taken on Gonal-f. It’s very powerful and directly effects your ovaries. Best wishes hun!! Just keep at it 🙂

EDIT:
I wish you soo much luck hun!! I have never tempt. Or charted, it all sounded like too much work to me 🙂 The month before I started my Gonal-f cycle I had a natural month off. It was mostly because of the holidays and closures, but I think it was good for my body anyways. My RE said that she sees good results on Femara, but I do know that depending on the dr. They won’t prescribe it. It is somehow linked to birth defects if taken while pregnant. Fortunately it’s usually taken early on in a cycle before you are ever pregnant, but some dr’s just don’t want to hassel with it. Hopefully your dr. Will have you try Gonal-f if that’s what you want. I hope you get your heart’s desire hun 🙂
