Linda asks…
Do you believe that IVF goes against the natural will of God?
I was recently thinking about IVF and Artificial Insemination and I personally believe that it goes against God’s will to conceive in natural child birth. I always believed that when married your pain is your spouse’s pain and vice versa.
Also knowing that we are not supposed to know our future. So if we use these methods then we are playing God and not trusting our faith or trusting that he has a greater purpose for us like maybe adoption? Just want some thoughts on how other people feel about it.
Michelle answers:
I come from a LONG LONG LONG LONG line of catholics and if you want to have a baby with your husband YOU SHOULD! It is your right as a women to produce children and if you can’t get there on your own there are great doctors out there that can help you! So don’t feel like your going against God. I think you should pray about it and you will see that its okay! There is nothing wrong with IVF. Think of it like they are assisting you to get pregnant. IVF is not a guarentee. So your right it will still be up to God hun!!!!! GOOD LUCK HUN!!! Sending you a ton of baby dust!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chris asks…
hcg betas in natural verses ivf?
i have to ask.. i have read in a blog somwhere on net that ivf conceptions are lower then natural..is that true? i dont see how if hcg doesnt occur untill after implantation anyways?
what are your thoughts? experiences?
thanks!
Michelle answers:
There is no truth to that . . .
I think that in IVF women are testing earlier as their RE is watching them, having blood work done to confirm pregnancy or to plan the next cycle so I think that they find out sooner than a woman TTC naturally in a lot of cases. Everything is much more exact in IVF as they are monitoring every little thing.

Richard asks…
Chances of natural pregnancy after ivf?
I went through IVF, never got pregnant, stopped treatment and got pregnant one month afterwards. Now I am wondering if I try to conceive again what are my chances of it happening naturally
Michelle answers:
Funny, same thing happened to one of my good friends… She tried to get PG and couldn’t. Went to dr- was told she had high FSH and needed IVF (she was 26 years old at the time). Did IVF, got PG with identical twins (embryo split after implanation! She had 3 embryos implanted, 1 took). She had beautiful twin boys in Feb ’06. When they were around 7 months old she started talking about doing IVF again in the near future, but a few weeks later discovered she was PG on her own! She was SHOCKED! A month ago she had baby boy #3! This does happen! What was your original reason you were having infertility problems? Find out if that that problem still exists… In my friend’s case I believe her high FSH worked itself out and went back down.. The body can do strange things sometimes! Or if you had blocked tubes, maybe they are unblocked now, who knows! You gotta see a doc (or RE) to have that checked out. If you did it once, chances are you can do it again naturally! 🙂 Good luck!

Lisa asks…
does anyone know the chances of a natural pregnancy following ivf?
Michelle answers:
A study by Cahill et al. ( 2005) suggests that the probability may be about 18%.
They found that the most important factors were:
1) Infertility diagnosis: women with “unexplained infertility” or “other” problems (other usually means ovulatory dysfunction) were more likely to conceive naturally (34.8%, 42.2%) than women with tubal problems (6.3%).
2) Age: women 38 years old or younger were more likely to conceive naturally (27.7%) than women over 38 (4.0%).
3) Duration of infertility: couples who were infertile for less than 3 years were more likely to conceive naturally (50%) than couples who were infertile longer (20%) .
I fit all three categories 🙂
I am 37, we did IVF (successfully) in 2006, after 2 plus years of trying, and are now pregnant naturally.
