Nancy asks…
I’m, still irregular from a Depo shot 8 months ago… should I try Vitex agnus-castus?
I’m on cycle day 36 with a negative pregnancy test. I don’t feel like I’m gonna start soon either. I had the shot Feb 28th, I was due May 30th for another shot but didn’t get it. I had a period July 9th that was normal, missed one in August, had a period from hell Sept 5th, then another September 19th that was normal…. and now I’m waiting… I’m frustrated because I want to get regular so I can get pregnant. Anybody have any natural herbal remedies that worked for them? I’ve read about Vitex but am nervous to try it.
Michelle answers:
I’ve read it can take up to 18 months for fertility to return after coming off Depo. However, it’s not the case for everyone. I’ve heard of many women using Vitex to regulate their irregular cycles. Here’s a link with some more info on Vitex, and other herbs, and some other helpful hints. Good luck to you, and lots of baby dust coming your way 🙂

Charles asks…
anyone else get sick of conflicting answers about meds when pregnant?
im nearly 33 weeks pregnant and have a really bad dose of the flu. I saw my midwife yesterday who told me panadiene was safe when pregnant, so i could take that to keeo the fever down, and she also gave me a brand of cough mixture to ask for at the pharmacy that i could also use.
I went to the pharmacy and was advised by the pharmacist that i cannot have that particular medicine and he recommended a natural remedy instead, wich is fine, would rather be safe than sorry and at that point would take just about anything to feel better.
when i got home and read the label it said to seek medical advice before taking when pregnant. Wtf???
Anyhow, my flu got worse and I went to the docs this morning, i had a doc i dont know and never seen before, and to put it politely she wasnt the most helpful. She tested for swine flu, negative, and when i told her about how wheezy i get when lying down she said touse vicks – which i told her didnt work, and asked for an inhaler. she nearly didnt give it to me!! And she told me i cannot take panadene or any cough mixture herbal or not.
So im stuck with forever doing steam inhalations, drinking lemon and honey drinks and sucking on lemon honey natural lozenges and drinking heaps tp keep the fever at bay.
Anyone else getting fed up with comflicting advice?
oh i cant wait til this bubs is out! I have never had so many illnesses in one winter compared to how many i have had during pregnancy! and to top it off, its actually summer (officially first day today) here! I thought we were over the flu season =(
Michelle answers:
Omg i know what you’re talking about!!
I’m sick right now and it was killing me yesterday. On Y!A i’ve heard that you can take benadryl and so i took just one pill and then i went to my doctors appointment today and she told me not to take any. But i took tylenol yesterday which worked WONDERS to keep my fever down. My midwife today gave me a list of things that i’m able to take while pregnant. I was like THANK GOD she gave me this!!! I was starting to get irritated with how i could only take tylenol!!
Oh, and i found out that when the label on medications say to seek medical help before taking them, it’s just to make sure you’re not like high risk pregnancy or anything like that. Even tylenol says to seek medical help before taking it. They put it on there so that they aren’t reliable if anything happens.
Here’s what’s on my paper she gave me.
*Minor aches and pains: ANY Tylenol
*Nasal congestion: Sudafed, Cold Tylenol, Ornex, and Actifed
*Cough: ANY Robitussin
*Sore throat: Cepastat lozenges, spray or equivalent
*Diarrhea: Imodium or Kaopectate
DO NOT TAKE: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Nuprin, or Advil
Go to the ER if you have any of the following symptoms:
1. Persistent cough, congestion, and/or diarrhea
2. Fever greater than 100.4 (F)
3. Green or blood tinged phlegm
4. Abdominal or chest pain
5. Shortness of breath
6. Severe headache
7. Visual changes

Joseph asks…
Where in the world is my period? Comment please?
I last got my period February 16 and seeing how it is now March 24th I am obviously late on my period. I took a home pregnancy test and it came up negative (although I’m worried this is because I took it in the evening, so I will take another soon but in the morning so it is more accurate). Me and my boyfriend did have sex without a condom but he also didn’t ejaculate… more like just fooling around a COUPLE times during the month. Yes I know about pre already, and all the other times we did use a condom (none broke by the way).
Assuming I am not pregnant from the pre and that the pregnancy test was right, than where is my period? I’ve never been this LATE my whole life. I haven’t been having cramps or anything else (if I did then I would feel more comforted as I know it’s on it’s way).
I have tried the natural remedy (drinking parsly tea, among other things) Any advice on what I should do to make it come, or just on my situation in general would be much appreciated.
I am 20 years old and normally quite responsible so no need to be harsh and scold me about the pre! Believe me after being so scared this month we will not even think about messing around like that again.
I’m just looking for some tips to bring on my period, and advice on this situation. A best answer will be chosen. Thanks!
I have not been exercising losing weight at all, nor is my body fat super low. I’m healthy girl who isn’t too skinny or overweight… I guess it is just stress but honestly i’ve been way more stressed in my life over other things and my periods were normal…
so that’s why it is so weird this time..
Michelle answers:
Your period can be delayed for a few reasons. Your period can be late because of stress (and you seem pretty stressed out…don’t worry, I’ve been there). If you’ve been sick lately, or any number of little things can make your period late. Take another pregnancy test (in the morning). If it comes up negative, stop stressing, and maybe it will come. If it comes up positive, or doesn’t come for another week, go to the doctor and get a blood pregnancy test done.
Best of luck.

HIGH RISK! Two babies and a miscarriage, scared of a repeat!?
I have two beautiful daughters one almost five, one almost two. I had a miscarriage in April and fear this will be a recurrence! I am currently pregnant again but have had my period the whole time lightly during the beginning of all my pregnancies! I’m worried sick and the soonest I could get an appointment is two weeks!! I’m really not sure if anyone knows any natural remedies or herbals safe to take to calm this stress lever and help with lower back pains . . Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!!!
Michelle answers:
I am sorry to hear of your loss. This is a very stressful time for you. Unfortunately, stress can lead to miscarriage as well. If you are looking for some ok things to help with stress, try the following:
Rescue Remedy: Herbal homeopathic stress relief in a bottle. A few drops on the toungue work WONDERS!! T-R-U-S-T M-E!! And doctor approved.
Vitaman B complex. (make sure its a complex). This includes the necessary vitamins for your pregnancy AND is water soluable so you cant hurt you or the baby from taking too much. B is a known stress reliever as well as a happy inducer.
Vitamin C: Huge impact on stress and free radicals that could cause your sac to rupture early thereby causing miscarriage. There was a study done on the impact of extra C while pregnant and the miscarriage rate due to premature rupture of membranes decreased significantly. Also, its water soluable-so it wont harm you or the baby.
As for your miscarriage, if your body let it go early, then its likely there was something developmentally/physically wrong with it. It happens. The other possibility, if it was more like the 12th or 13th week, then talk to your doctor about the possiblity you may have incompetent cervix where the cervix is weakened and cannot support the pregnany. A stitch (called a cerclage) could be put in and you would be protected. I carried my first to term but with this one was thrown on bed rest and a cerclage put in at 19 weeks to protect me from miscarriage as I was already starting to shorten. Still on bed rest becuse we weren’t proactive enough. So if that is the case, talk to your doctor about the possibilty of preventative options. (many incompetent cervix miscarriages are not diagnosed until AFTER the miscarriage-so ask your doctor). Be proactive.
I wish you the best of luck. Please feel free to email after your appointment if you have more questions about incompetent cervix.
Good luck!
