Michael asks…
Cleaning products while pregnant?
For both of my pregnancies I have used the green works products because they were all natural and don’t have any harsh chemicals, but honestly they really suck in my opinion. I feel like I just can’t get my house as clean as it was when I used the other products that were not all natural. So I was wondering what other pregnant women are using
Michelle answers:
I am a mother to a beautiful 9 month old baby, and a formulation chemist for new cleaning products, so I happen to know more than a few tricks you can use.
If you want to clean your windows or counter tops or even floors try some normal white vinegar! Seriously vinegar leaves no residue and cleans really well. If you want it to dry quicker try adding some rubbing alcohol to the mix, that is what we professionals do! If the smell is too overpowering add in some water. Most vinegar you can buy in the store is only 3% actual vinegar and in the cleaning formulas you only add in about 1-2 % so you have some wiggle room adding in water or rubbing alcohol.
To clean the bathtub and even toilet bowl vinegar works great too, and you will see it on many many labels of cleaning products, but we call it Acetic Acid, or Glacial Acetic Acid.
Other things that clean great, Hydrogen peroxide! Yes the stuff that you put on cuts will be great at removing stains, just like bleach but without the harsh smell.
Never add vinegar to an ammonia cleaning product, this will cause a reaction that is REALLY not good.
Most cleaning products work the same on all surfaces, that is another industry secret. So if there was one clorox green works product that worked well I suggest you use that one for everything, from bathtubs to kitchen counters, to floor cleaner. The bath and shower cleaner from clorox green works has some powerful stuff in it called glycolic acid and it is the ONLY greenworks product that didn’t pass the DFE (Designed for the Environment) screening because of the glycolic acid not being allowed. But that would be your best bet for something that works well if you need a product that you can buy at the store.
Good luck, feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions 🙂

skin product during pregnancy?
hello, am 12-13 weeks pregnant, recently had some pimples on my face, they went away but left brown spots, yea my skin is horrible every time there is a small pimple it leaves dark spot behind it. So is it ok to use Garnier Skin Naturals Moisturizing Face Cream? it has lemon essence to whiten those spots. i just bought it, can i use it during pregnancy?
Michelle answers:
I think it should be fine. The skin is prone to scarring and dark marks n the face during pregnancy. Some other good things you can use on the face during pregnancy is bio-oil (used for stretch marks as well) and vitamin E cream. Check the ingredients on your product.
Some ingredients to avoid while pregnant are-
Differin (adapelene)
Retin-A, Renova (tretinoin)
Retinoic acid
Retinol
Retinyl linoleate
Retinyl palmitate
Tazorac and avage (Tazarotene)
Salicylic acid
Beta hydroxy acid
BHA

William asks…
Do hcg levels need to be 0 in order for your period to start?
I had a natural miscarriage at 7 weeks gestation on 11/2/06. A follow-up ultrasound showed it was a complete miscarriage with no products of conception left behind. I had positive home pregnancy tests on 12/8/06 & 12/11/06. I had levels drawn on 12/8/06 and my hcg was 120. My period came later on 12/11/06, and I never followed up on the second levels that were drawn because I was sure I wasn’t pregnant anymore after that especially heavy period. This morning, 1/13/06, I had a positive home pregancy test again. My question is, can I be sure this is indicating new hcg levels, because they had to have dropped to zero in order for me to have my period last month?
Michelle answers:
Yes, it would be a new pregnancy. HCG levels have to be at 0 in order to get your period. Congrats! And good luck!
All those saying your HCG don’t have to be 0 are wrong. I had a miscarriage, I know.
