Did you have a natural or medicated FET (Frozen Embryo Transfer)? Which is better?
I had a failed fresh IVF cycle in July. December we will start our FET but I cannot decide between Medicated and Natural. What did you have? What were your results? Stress? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in Advance…oh and we have “Unexplained” infertility and we are doing assisted hatching as well.
Michelle answers:
As long as your cycles are regular and there is no other problems than there is no difference in the success rates between medicated and non-medicated FET’s. My RE does do medicated cycle with estradiol and progesterone. I have only done fresh cycles but I do have a friend who goes to my clinic who got a BFP doing a medicated cycle and I’m putting money on twins!
Gosh, if it were me, I would probably do a medicated cycle just for that extra support. You want your lining to be nice an snuggly and keep it that way after your transfer. One way to be certain of that is to do a medicated cycle. On the other hand, if you experience bad side effects or have a hard time with the progesterone you may go for the natural cycle to diminish some of the stress.
You can get lots more information on FET’s from other women with experience at fertilethoughts.com or ivfconnections.com. Each site has a section specifically for FET’s. I have gotten a tremendous amount of support from both!
Good luck to you!

Looking for IVF success stories for women over 40?
Need a little encouragement. Would like to hear success stories of women over 40 who achieved a healthy, full-term pregnancy using IVF or IUI over 40.
My husband and I conceived our first when I was 38 (1st try, the “natural” way). We started trying for #2 over 1.5yrs ago. I’m now 41-almost 42, and while under the care of one of the best fertility docs, I’m feeling discouraged. My blood shows elevated progesterone days 2-3 (and if I hear 1 more time it’s from “diminished ovarian reserve”, I’ll scream), and my follicle/embryo count is low (1st IVF cycle only 3 embryos, resulted in pregnancy, but miscarried, and 2nd cycle got switched to IUI because there were only 4 follicles day 12 U/S-no pregnancy).
About to start 3rd cycle, but am really hitting a mental low. The stats have me in a tailspin, and I need to hear that people actually achieve what we’re trying to do. No “reality” stats please -I’m already too aware of the grim stats for my age. Please share successes. Thank you!
Michelle answers:
Not a personal story – but I went through IVF in December / January (I am 34 and DH is 36 suffering from unexplained infertility). To prepare, I joined a women’s support group for infertility. It was sponsered by our IVF center. There were two women in my group who are over 40 and both had successful cycles.
One is 41, had a tubal reversal so that she could try to have a baby with her 2nd (new) husband. She was able to use her own eggs and is currently about 3 months pregnant with twins. The other is 43, ended up using a donor egg with her husband’s sperm (due to low ovarian reserve) and is about 6 months pregnant with a girl.
Hope that this gives you a bit of hope – don’t give up!

Mandy asks…
Any good natural ways to get pregnant with twins?
did you try any method to get pregnant with twins? i know there is not much to do but at least we could try it…
please don’t mention IVF
any thing to do to produce 2 eggs in 1 cycle?
Michelle answers:
Do twins run it your family at all? I know that’s a good way otherwise I think there are some pills out there that make you have more eggs or something. Good luck twins are awesome I have twin sister in laws which means that I could very well be having twins myself one day! =D

William asks…
How are you going/did you go with IVF & was it male or female factor?
Hubby and I are starting IVF (ICSI) in April and I am packing it as i have not coped with ttc failure very well so far (i get very emotional and pessimistic). Only one more natural cycle left until treatment and hoping for but not expecting good news. Ours is male factor (low concentration, motility and less than optimal morphology). Would love to hear from others in the same boat, your experiences with IVF and if you know whether the chances of success are different for male and female factor causes. Thanks.
Thanks so much for your answers girls…
Will keep you posted Lola. Hope they don’t keep you hanging too long. I feel like it’s taken forever to get to this point (we have a very busy specialist – first saw him in August) but we’ll get there.
I’m so happy for you Bella. Hope pregnancy is treating you well. You deserve it after the hard work getting there.
Michelle answers:
I have just had my 2nd cycle of ivf/icsi produce a bfp, i am so excited and shocked and am still in disbelief, i to had a male factor problem, very low count, motility, etc, but the great news with icsi is you only need 1 good sperm and i am proof of that.
I tried not to let ttc take over my life, but i have to admit when you start ivf it will, but i would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
There are blood tests, injections and ultrasounds.over a couple weeks but how your doctor will start your treatment will differ from patient to patient.
Well i had a 60% chance of success and thats because there was nothing wrong with me so you to could be the same.
I looked at this way i had a better chance of it working then it not.
When my 1st cycle failed i was devasted and almost gave up, i am so glad i went ahead for one more.
I wish you lots and lots of luck in to getting that bfp you will.
It just takes a little longer for some of us and a little intervention to
