Postive in office urine pregnancy test 2-3weeks after natural miscarriage, new pregnancy or left over hormones?
My LMP was on July5th and I probably conceived on like the weekend of the 17th so that put me at what should have been 12weeks pregnant the weekend I had a natural “completed” miscarriage on the 26th of September. I ended up in the ER due to my doctor thinking I was hemorrhaging which was HELLL. I was in SO much pain and bleeding through the thickest pads possible within like 20mins for hours. So long story short I was in the ER for a night on pain meds and then they finally did an ultrasound and said that I had a completed miscarriage and my HGC levels went from 45,000 to 15,000 since my 7th week of pregnancy. Here is another fact that may help. I ended up having like 4 trans-vaginal ultrasounds. Starting at 5weeks, 7weeks, 9weeks, and then at time of miscarriage at 12weeks. Not once did we ever see a heartbeat or fetal pole. The most seen was at 7weeks but was just both gestational and yolk sac but was thought to see small embryo, but not sure. Needless to say things were obviously not right so at my 9week followup I was told pregnancy was not viable so I could have a D&C whenever or wait to miscarry naturally. I definitely chose natural bc I have heard of cases of miracles happening and babies ending up being viable when told they were not. So my new main concern is I went back to the doctor this past Thurs on the 14th and was told through an in-office urine test that I was pregnant again!!!! I for some reason do not believe her as I do not think there has been enogh time TO get preg again. I did have sex 2weeks after MC, but protected with a condom. She did HCG blood work on Thurs and then again today but I was told it will be a few days before I get results. I kept telling the midwife that it HAD to be leftover HCG from pregnancy and she seems to think that after 3weeks I should have been back to normal or at least too low for urine test. I argued with her for a good minute but she still seemed to think I was pregnant. I am in denial, maybe? I would love to have a blessing of a child, but just not right now. Scared that not right now, might be too late. So anyone that can ease my mind? Similar cases that just turned out to be leftover hormones?
UPDATE!!!: So I got my bloodwork done Mon and the results today. My HCG went from like 260 last week to 23 on Monday so definitely NOT pregnant again thank goodness. I still question why my DR was soooooo set on the fact that I was. I do not feel it was professional of her to try to say I definitely was without knowing. Oh well. Hopefull this can help someone else that may be in a similar situation to know that HCG can hang around for that long. Hope this isn’t TMI, but I actually started my period this morning too, so apparently all the HCG is gone now?! Goodluck to anyone that may read this and be in similar situations. Hopefully I never have to go through this again and can have a healthy baby one day!!!
Michelle answers:
Most of the time its left over HGC. Only way to tell is if they start doing blood work and checking the level of the hormone to see if it gets higher. It is possible but really I was told the HGC stays in Your system for a while. It doent go away over night. They even tell you when taking prego test that you need to wait a good month.. Truth is that you are pretty fertile after a miscarriage and delivery of a baby up to average is 3 months. I say wait things out. Also the symptoms of being pregnant do not go away right way. Your body just went through trauma. Give it some time take care of yourself and see what is happening.

Paul asks…
okay 5 weeks after 11 weeks pregnant natural miscarriage is it too early to test for pregnancy?
i have not had a period yet
and don’t say they told you to wait. things happen.
Michelle answers:
For best results wait for a few months ?!?!?!?!
Many many many people get pregnant just after a natural miscarriage and have no problems whatsoever and therefore many GP’s (including my own) don’t indicate that there is a need to wait. In fact, you are more fertile after a miscarriage and your body is well known to respond better after it has done a practise run.
I tested 5 weeks after a miscarriage and it was positive, beta HCG levels indicated that this was indeed a new pregnancy (levels >50) and they were doubling as they should indicating that it was a viable pregnancy.
If you test now you may find that the test is a bit faint positive as the levels of hcg in your system may be a bit low but a positive is a positive.
All the best for your test and if it’s positive for your pregnancy!!!

Susan asks…
When to do a pregnancy test after a misscariage?
I had a natural miscarriage 13 days ago.
I was 5 weeks so there were no complications of anything.
Me and my boyfriend have started trying again 2 days ago and will continue to do so for another 3 weeks (Just to be sure when I ovulate)
So my question is when should I do a pregnancy test?
(Im showing negative at the moment as Im back to normal with HCG levels)
I went to the doctors on Monday and got the all clear and he said he was fine to start trying again!
Michelle answers:
After my missed miscarriage at 12 weeks and d&c i started trying again two days later with the ok from my doctor. As long as there were no complications you should be fine. Im pregnant again and 35 weeks and my babys fine,so trying again so soon doesnt give any risk to the pregnancy. My doctor said the only reason they like to say wait is so they know when you ovulated and they can tell the age of the baby better. And so that your also menatlly ok. After a miscarriage or d&c your uterus is fine and clean so it’s a better enviroment for a pregnancy anyway.
If your getting negative tests that means the pregnancy hormone is out of your body so you can ovulate, give it about two or three weeks and get a blood test done at your doctors and that will tell you if you are pregnant. Or you could buy a few home tests and test every two weeks,or until your periods get back on track and you you kow when you’ve missed one.
Good luck and im sorry for your loss……………baby dust to you.

Thomas asks…
are there any natural supplement that would cause a false negative on a pregnancy test?
yes herbal natural meds/supplements not weed
Michelle answers:
Like herbal medicine? Not marijuana right? Cause Marijuana can cause many birth defects!
Nothing will make you have a false negative.. But if your urine is very diluted.. Like.. You drank alot of water a few hours before testing, then yes.. You may have a false negative.
