Why is it soo hard?
I’m 40 weeks pregnant, 4cm, 70% effaced, and have been in on and off labor for weeks. My Midwife suggested castor oil to speed things up but it’s not proven safe because of the chance of meconium in the water. Blue and black cohosh
are considered healthier but pose the same threat. Why are natural labor inducers looked down upon but pitocin is just as scary and maybe even more harmful. So at this point, they want to let me go until 41 weeks, and then try the natural remedies. At that point is the pregnancy at risk for stillborn? They won’t send me to the hospital until after 42 weeks, and I’m not comfortable with that because by then, there’s such a risk of me losing him. What can I do? Sex, walking and nipple stimulation only trigger mild contractions that will not keep. Is there anything that’s actually going to work that’s safe for us to try? How long after 40 weeks is my pregnancy considered at risk for stillborn? I know I sound frazzled, but I’m not getting anywhere. HELP!!
Michelle answers:
Hey, don’t worry your not frazzled your worried about your baby, which every pregnant woman is. As far as i know natural labor inducers are looked down upon while your in the middle of your pregnancy but if your already 4 cm i don’t get why they wont let you. Anyways, your best bet right now is try to relax. With being so worried that might be the reason why your contractions aren’t consistent and why you wont go into full labor. If you wait to go to the hospital until 42 weeks and you still arnt in active labor they will give you pitocin or a cesection, depending on how dialated and effaced you are then. What i would do is look in the phonebook for a hotline to call or maybe even a hospital to find the safest way to go. Just so you know, hospitals will automatically tell you to come to the hospital because with you being 40 weeks its coming to the end in your pregnancy and their could be a reason that your baby isn’t ready to come out, maybe because the umbilical cord is wrapped around its neck. Call around, get some advice, and wait a week and if your still 4 cm I would go to the hospital- it just sounds like that would be the best for your baby. Hope this helps, and remember, just try to relax- it could speed up your contractions and put you into labor! Good luck!!!

Sandra asks…
Pinworms and pregnancy?
OK. Really embarrassing and pretty gross, but here goes.
I am almost in my third trimester of pregnancy…
I am a teacher, and there was an outbreak of pinworms in my classroom. I began showing symptoms (itchy rectum) , and at my check up with my OB, she conducted a tape test and did not find anything, but I had just taken a shower.
She as an OB has never treated pinworms, and did a bit of research and prescribed me mebendazole, going on only one bit of research conducted in sri lanka. When I got home, I called the pharmacist and my primary care physician, and both recommended I not take the medicine because pinworm is not dangerous and the drug is.
So, my question is, if I continuously wash myself and change my clothes and linens, is it possible that this will clear up because the eggs have no way of reinfesting upon hatching? Or am I doomed to itch for the next 3 months until I deliver and can safely take the medicine?
Is there a natural remedy that I don’t know about? Help!!!
Michelle answers:
Easy to say do nothing unless you’re going through it!
I found this information online and included the link if you’d like to check it out for yourself.
“Some Naturopaths prescribe spigelia for pinworms. It
is safe to use in pregnancy. Others suggest ingestion of pumpkins seeds and garlic for a period of ten days to two weeks. It is important for all family members to be treated and this includes bathing every morning to wash away ova that have been deposited outside the anus. Snug fitting underwear and regular handwashing as well as washing of bedsheets will also reduce reinfestation.”
They also advise not sharing baths or towels and warn about toilet seats.

Flu in late pregnancy 38 weeks…if is not to severe can it harm my baby if left untreated?
I’m 38 weeks and so far i was doing excelent. I took no medications during this pregnancy except my vitamins. I eat healty, exercise and did all the right things. And now with only two weeks to go it HIT me with a bad cold/flu. Is been 3 days since I saw my doctor, at that time I only had a sore throat and took some halls menthol, but now I have stuffy nose, burning eyes, bit of headake, temperature comes and goes(like hot flashes) and sore muscles. I will see my doctor in 4 days.
Until now I was going to the pool to swim and stretch in the warm water for an 1.30-2h/day, and this makes me feel so good.
What I want to know is if my cold, as long is just mild can harm my baby if I l do not take any medication, instead just get some natural remedy, honey, lemon and also continue my daily swiming?
I can handle it well for my self and don’t feel the need of bed restriction, however I do not know how it will affect my baby if I push myself to just hang in there.
Any sugestions?

Is there a natural remedy for uterine fibroids?
I don’t have bothersome symptoms, but I have 6 large fibroids. I want to get pregnant in the future. My doctor said I’ll have no trouble getting pregnant, but I’m likely to have trouble during pregnancy. I keep myomectomy as a last resourt. Cause there are so many possible complications like adhesions and having to have a C-section. I want my body to get rid of them naturally. Any advise? Like exercise or fasting? I know that fibroids a hormone-dependent. I also know that girls lose their period if they fast long enough. Will that do anything?
Michelle answers:
I answered your other question and seeing this makes me feel for you as it must be awful fearing you may not be able to have kids.
I couldn’t find too much but I did search and found this
The great Dr John R Christopher said burdock helps fibroids..if taking use an organic tincture..the usual dose is two dropperfuls (60 drops)..3-5 times a day..I would use 5 times a day. A dropperful is what remains in the eyedropper of a tincture bottle when you squeeze the bulb, inset into the herbal tincture formula, release eyedropper top..what remains in the drop is called a dropperful and looks about half full..this eliminates the need to count drops. A few off will not hurt on herbs.
A good brand is herbpharm..they have a good burdock blend. Burdock is not harmful..it is a blood cleanser and sold in some places as a food,.

I once read his woman’s herbal years ago but can’t remember if he addressed fibroids there but it may be worth a shot..I got it from interlibrary loan.
It is also sold here–
Also curezone has a lot of excellent health info..here is some of the things on fibroid there.

so I would revcommend this book and the ons by linda page and balche in the other questions for hormone balancing and the burdock and further research on curezone and elsewhere to trying to dissolve the fibroids.
Also maybe Dr Richard schulze’s incurables formula may help..(push enter and go to the incurables program..he is the one with the female herbal formula and said he never failed to help infertile woman or women with female problems who wanted to have a child fail..I bet he used his incurables formula with his female herbs..also see his index in the catalog found at herbdoc.com
