Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Magazine

Betty asks…

what’s a good pregnancy magazine? with reliable info? and fun!?

i want to get a subscription to a pregnancy magazine, but i can’t find any in stores around here (??) to look at… so i’m not sure which one is good? i want some good info about childbirth also, and i’m all for exercise & would prefer natural (nonmedicated) birth, so i don’t want the magazine to ignore that option (i want to know all about epidurals, also, just in case!).

also, do they only do 6 month subscriptions? or at least have stuff about childbirth & babies too?
one time a while back (a few years ago) i found a really great british one, but i can’t remember the name 🙁
(it was kinda odd for me at first, being american, different lingo & measurements, but i loved the info!! & the tone of the magazine was fun)
yeah, i have the “what to expect when you’re expecting” book & pregnancy journal as well as “what to expect the first year” and i have “your pregnancy week by week” “modern woman’s guide to motherhood” (i like to read! lol)
they are great
thanks everyone! i did sign up for a couple free subscriptions to american baby & baby talk, and Mothering looks so great! i got a free online sample issue & i think it’s the one!!!

I LOVE Mothering magazine. It is mostly natural, they have a lot of good info, and unlike the mainstream ones, do not have a pharmaceutical ad every other page.
Cookie was stupid..there were articles that focused on “looking SEXY your whole pregnancy” (like that is your top focus!!) and “bling for your baby” and dumb shit like that.
Good Luck with your cub! Lol

Clincal Trial: Natural pregnancy?!?

I was reading a study in a magazine from this odd study in India or something, I wish I could find you the link so you could laugh your asses off, but they suggested females can get pregnant without any contact from men/sperm, and without invitro.
I don’t remember what it said exactly but it had some crazy bio formulas or something, but I did not understand.
Is this a major hoax or no?!
I found it pretty funny, how could a girl make herself pregnant? Hahaha, those crazy folk…

Michelle answers:

I’ve heard the same thing. I tried to look for a link but couldn’t find one. They say that it’s possible for 2 eggs to fuse, but if you have a child with 100% of your DNA…isn’t that basically like a twin? What happens if your child commits a crime and they find your DNA (because it’s the same as hers) at the scene. And women don’t have both X and Y chromosomes, so you would only be able to have a female.. Yeah it seems really strange.

Maria asks…

Is there a hard-copy magazine which is comparable to Mothering Magazine?

Mothering Magazine just went from hard copy issues to an online format. I was just introduced to it and was about to order a subscription but they just announced this news. I’m sad! I am in Canada. I had gotten Today’s Parent late in my first pregnancy and while Carson was a newborn, but I never found anything to be useful or interesting to me.

Do you get magazine subscriptions, not necessarily just for parenting, but maybe for pregnancy and birth prep also?

For those unfamiliar, “Mothering” was a natural parenting magazine which also dealt with prenatal and postpartum issues…also topics such as breastfeeding, cloth diapering, attachment parenting, baby wearing, vaccinations, midwifery, and so on. Hopefully someone can suggest a magazine very similar to this! 🙂

Michelle answers:

You might enjoy “The Compleat Mother” a lot.

I like it more than “Mothering,” which was increasingly a re-hash of the six zillion cloth diaper articles on-line. Nothing new in there, it seemed. “Compleat Mother,” on the other hand, can sometimes be stunningly far off the beaten path, which makes for a much more interesting read. Even if you don’t plan on birthing alone in the woods or co-sleeping with all six of your kids, etc, it is certainly more interesting to read about doing such things than it is to read the mainstream magazine dross.

“Brain, Child” is not natural-parenting stuff, but also worth a look — http://www.brainchildmag.com/
