Paul asks…
What Victorian era movie and I thinking of?
A while ago I watched a romantic movie where the main female character falls in love with a writer who gets sick and goes somewhere (Italy I think) to try to get better but ends up dying. Does anyone know what this movie is called?
Michelle answers:
Bright Star (2009)
starring Abbie Cornish, Ben Whishaw, Paul Schneider, Kerry Fox
IMDb synopsis:
London 1818: A secret love affair begins between 23-year-old English poet John Keats (Ben Whishaw) and the girl next door, Fanny Brawne (Abbie Cornish), an outspoken student of high fashion. This unlikely pair begin at odds, he thinking her a stylish minx, while she was unimpressed not only by his poetry but also by literature in general. However, when Fanny heard that Keats was nursing his seriously ill younger brother, her efforts to help touched Keats and when she asked him to teach her about poetry he agreed. The poetry soon became a romantic remedy that worked not only to sort their differences, but also to fuel an impassioned love affair. When Fanny’s alarmed mother and Keats’ best friend finally awoke to their attachment, the relationship had an unstoppable momentum. Intensely and helplessly absorbed in each other, the young lovers were swept deeply into powerful new sensations, “I have the feeling as if we’re dissolving,” Keats wrote to her. Together they rode a wave of romantic obsession that only deepened as their troubles mounted. When Keats fell ill a year later, the two young lovers faced no marriage but separation. He dies before they can be reunited.

I’ve watched this several times recently.
EDIT: Since second-poster fleur also thinks it’s “Bright Star”, I deleted my question mark. Actually, I couldn’t think of any other possibilities. I at first wasn’t certain because it’s not set during the Victorian era, instead preceding it.
Carol asks…
Would the starting pitcher get the loss in this situation?
Suppose a pitcher throws a no-hitter. However, his teammates make an error or two and a runner scores an unearned run, and his team scores no runs, so his team loses 1-0. The starting pitcher goes the entire game. The run is une not credited against him but somebody has to get the loss and he was the only pitcher to pitch in the game.
Michelle answers:
Yes and it’s happened once before.
April 23rd, 1964, Ken Johnson of the Houston Colt .45’s pitched a no-hitter against the Cincinnati Reds and lost the game 1 to 0.
Pete Rose reached 2nd base in the 9th inning on an error by Johnson himself and later scored the game’s only run on an error by HOFer Nellie Fox.

Matt Young and Andy Hawkins lost games where they didn’t give up a hit in 8 innings but since they were on the road the other team didn’t have to bat in the 9th inning. Steve Barber and Jered Weaver lost games when they combined with another pitcher for a no-hitter.

Joseph asks…
How many Beatrix Potter Books Are There In A Series?
Are they worth much in fair to good condition?
I’m looking for them.
Michelle answers:
There are 23 ‘Tales’ in all.
Fair to Good condition in usual 2nd hand book trade parlance is not what is sought after so they won’t be worth much.
Good Condition merely means it is readable with plenty of wear and tear may well have writing (inscriptions) in the front and the condition of the pages will be grubby and there maybe fingerprints or torn pages.
Very Good Condition is where it is a clean copy with bumps and grazes and has obviously been read, and used, the dust wrapper or jacket D/W D/J is generally clean but amy have some scrubbing and slight tears at the corners.
Fine is what most collectors are looking for, there are just the faintest marks or wearing.
Mint is perfect and rarely found unless the book is still in its polythene cover unopened and of course unread. These days most 1sts are not poly-wrapped to start with so this is rarely come across.
Age of course can have a difference, a book from 1902 in fine condition would not be expected to be as pristine as 2002, the pages maybe browned for a start.
Foxing this is where there a brown spotting marks to the pages, it is caused by a virus so exposure to air can be the reason.
