Ruth asks…
What are some good alternatives to nuts for someone allergic to nuts?
I’m allergic to nuts; and I love the Food Network. Alton Brown specifically really entertains me, but he seems to use nuts in a lot of his food. What are some generic good alternatives to nuts in regards to cooking?
Michelle answers:
Are you allergice to almonds?
I have a nut allergy but can eat almonds as they aren’t nuts! They come from the apricot family.
Pumpkin or sunflower seeds.

Ken asks…
How can I thicken the strawberry sauce I made to top a cheesecake?
I made Emril’s NY style cheesecake using the recipe on Food Network. I made the strawberry sauce yesterday (2 pints of strawberries,1/2 cup sugar, 1 cup water, lemon zest, and 2 tbs brandy cooked on the stove top). I thought the sauce would thicken once it cooled but it hasn’t. Any thoughts on what I could add to it to thicken its texture?
Michelle answers:
Try cooking it a bit more to reduce it.
Mary asks…
How do i go about growing my own herbs like basil and parsley?
I watch alot of the cooking shows on the food network and they always have basil and parsley in pots on their cabinets…I would love to have my own but dont know how to go about it.
Michelle answers:
Go to your local nursery or home depot or somethin and buy them – rosemary is nice too, it will eventually grow into a nice bush that smells wonderful in the summer
if you like or need a good groundcover, you could get some creeping thyme
but they will also have your basil and parsley, and it beats growing it from a seed
John asks…
Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?
Like the kind they use on Food Network for olive oil?
Michelle answers:
I do believe you mean a micro-plane grater. That, the spout for cooking oil and vinegar cruets and much more can be found at most specialty kitchen stores like Kitchen & Co., Bed Bath and Beyond, Williams-Sonoma, or Sur La Table. You can also order them online at cooking.com, Amazon.com, or many others.
