What happens if i make mistakes on the Fafsa?
I recently turned in the fafsa to a college and i noticed when i logged into my account that some of the information that was sent was wrong, (i.e home address, drivers license number) i wanted to know what would happen to me if i sent it wrong to the college and what i can to do correct my mistakes. Its not letting me correct my mistakes on the college website, is it best to go straight to the college and talk to someone? Thanks for any advice!
Michelle answers:
Update your FAFSA first
then contact (or go by) the school

How can I get my FAFSA confirmation number?
It has been 7 months since I completed the FAFSA and shortly after I did I was emailed the confirmation number. I accidentally deleted the confirmation email and now I need to know the confirmation number. Is there any way to find out the confirmation number and how?
Michelle answers:
You can check up on your application status by logging in at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov with your social security and PIN number.

I recently starting attending college and I am confused about the Fafsa. My family income is low and it says I?
I recently starting attending college and I am confused about the Fafsa. My family income is low and it says I will be getting 1,250 first and second half. Meaning I will be getting 2,500 for a semester. My friends are getting about 3,200 for a semester. I am taking 5 classes (15 units.) I was wondering if they might of miscalculated my fafsa. Thank You.

When did you file. Filing closest to Jan 1 every year maximizes your federal aid award. Some federal aid you may qualify for is only given to the colleges by the govt limited funding so those who apply early will get that aid, those who file it may run out or you will get less because they try to stretch it out. We apply Jan 1 every year as an estimate while we wait for our W2s to come in so we can do the taxes for that year, just use the previous year taxes and indicated will file on the tax question and they will know you are doing an estimate. Then do your taxes ASAP when those W2s come in and log back on FAFSA, click make corrections, put in the correct tax info for this filing year and resubmit. Also the federal aid on FAFSA is not determined just by income, also many other questions like amounts in banks, income, assets like stocks, bonds, etc., also questions about family size, how many in home attending colleges, etc. Etc. So all of those are factors.

What exactly does the FAFSA reveal to the college?
I have been accepted to a university and plan on filling out my FAFSA tomorrow. What does the college financial aid office see? Do they only see the ISIR (electronic version of the student SAR)? Or do they see my past financial aid requests? I have applied for it in the past at my local community college, but I never qualified for or received any aid. Will these past applications show up?
Michelle answers:
It gives schools a general idea of your parents financial situation. It helps the government decide how much money they are going to offer you in grants and loans, but basically it tells your school how much your parents can afford to pay out of pocket.
