Your Questions About Oldest Woman Natural Pregnancy

Mary asks…

I’m new here, but I’m wondering are there any moms older than 50 who are pregnant?

I am 55 and pregnant (14 weeks) with my 8th child with my husband of 9 years. This will be our third child together. He has three from a previous marriage (29, 24, 20,) and I have five (33, 29, 26, 19, 17) from a previous marriage (I know, HUGE family).

The weirdest part is that we became grandparents before those last two were born!

None of the pregnancies that have came since I’ve remarried have been planned! For most of my pregnancies I’ve done natural births but I’m not great with pain and always end up being that dreaded woman who grunts and groans deep and loud when she pushes lol!

I am excited to have my eldest daughter accompany her step-father and I during the birth, for my last birth she was with me (and put up with my “loud vocal pushing”), and I’m grateful to her….(I was there for hers as well)

I know this was long lol, but I would really love to hear from ANYONE who can relate to this situation, I have not come across that many. Thanks!

Michelle answers:

I am 40 and am 6 weeks pregnant now. We had our first in 2007 but he died in the hospital just afterwards, and then I miscarried last July, so it’s great to hear from others who have good luck so much later. I had concerns about how old I’ll be when my kid is in high school but if you can do it, I guess I can too — thanks for giving me hope and CONGRATS to you — feel free to e-mail me anytime.

Steven asks…

my mom won’t let me dye my hair with semi-permanant dye?

I’m 13 and would like to dye my hair auburn red in semi-permanant. i asked my mom and i didn’t even finish the question, & she said no. i asked her why & she said because she said so. i told her everyone else is dying their hair & she said everyone is having sex too. would i like to join them. she says it would make me look older. i’m 13 & only ‘grown’ women dye their hair she said. she thinks i’m going to have sex, do drugs & drink, all by dying my hair. what am i like, 5 years old? i get good grades & don’t hang out with sluts or boys. she makes it sound like i want to have sex when i’m 13 and get pregnant. nooo, i don’t feel like ending up on teen mom and losing my teenage years to a pregnancy. there’s a little word called abstince, which i follow until i get married. & i don’t want to have the horrible side effects of drinking & doing drugs. the dye will also wash out in a couple of weeks. it’s not like it’s permanant & i won’t get my natural hair color back. she treats me like i’m five. she won’t even let me wear lip gloss. so how do i convince her to let me dye my hair with SEMI-PERMANANT HAIR COLOR?
thank you so much.
but i tried to show her the post & she told me to get out of her room.
lmao.
thank you so much.

What does this sound like to you? WOMAN ONLY PLEASE!?

Their for a while I had severe menstrual problems, I didn’t have a period for 1 1/2 years being only 20 years old. I had everything checked out bunches of blood tests and all the perfect ” so my doctor said.” She gave me a progesterone challenge 10mg for 7 days to see if it would induce a period and it worked, well she suggested i start taking a natural progesterone cream for 10 days starting the 15th day of my cycle, well day 3 of taking the cream i started my period again, that cycle was 27 days long..Well i thought i found a solution but i was suppose to start my period a week ago and it never came. My husband and i have had unprotected sex quite a bit throughout that cycle but i don’t really suspect pregnancy because i do not have any symptoms at all, breast are a tiny bit tender but that it is, usually i don’t even get soar bb’s befor my period..Anybody ever experienced this and found the problem???What do you think it could be, just your opinion..thanks so much guys!

Michelle answers:

Go to the doctor. I had this problem, sonogram showed it to be multiple tiny cysts on my ovaries, toughing the outer flesh so that an egg could not release. I was given a progesterone shot, and 3 days later my period started. My doc put my on birth control for 1 year. The cysts subsided and after 1 year of birth control, my cycle was back in full swing without aid.

Honey, take a home pregnancy test. If it is negative, your regimen is no longer working maybe you should up your progesterone, but if it is positive, CONGRATS!!!

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Charles asks…

what do you think????????????

Ok Well it’s going to be about 6 + months before I can start IVF! We are going to wait until we both have vacation time to take since we have to take at least a week off from work and go to Idaho to get it done and it’s is almost a 500 miles!!

So until then I am going to try everything natural I can to see if I can unblock them my self! I know most of you thing that this can not be done!! But I think it can, so NO Negative! Thanks! Also my tubes are not blocked because of scar tissue! Both of my tubes looked great! My blockages are right at my ovaries!! I am doing lymphatic de-congestive therapy and reflexology! I also am doing a lymphatic detox tea and massage! I am really hoping that it helps!
I think that I am be given sign from above to do these thing! For the biggest sign was when I was doing a show for Arbonne the booth next to me (out of 50+booths) was the gal that does lymphatic de-congestive therapy and reflexology! After weeks of researching and thinking about doing this and trying to find someone where I live that does this. Also me gal that has been doing my massages had to quit because of problems she was have with her hands and now doing some massages again!! She is so awesome, but about 2 years ago she asked me if there was something with my ovaries! At that time I said NO because I did not now anything was wrong! I just went and saw her and I did not tell her where the blockage was and she knows right where they were!!

What do you think???

Michelle answers:

Go for it!!! As my grandma use to say “you never know until you try”.

Richard asks…

When should I stop searching for a Man and just have a child by myself?

So here is my story and my question, sorry if it is long.

I am currently a college student (double major elementary teacher/ministry and leadership studies). I am still young and searching for the love of my life. I am a virgin because I don’t believe in sex before marriage. I have a wonderful full and complete relationship with God.

I haven’t had a lot of relationships with men mostly because I don’t believe in giving your heart to more than one man. What I want more than anything in the world is a family of my own. The husband the 2.8 kids and the white fence, the big american dream.

Unfortunately I have both PCOS and endometriosis, which means that my body isn’t going to be able to conceive a child for much longer (basically after age 28 I might not be able to have a child even if I try IVF).

So if I don’t find a man that I could see myself with for the rest of my life in the next five years I am going to either have a child by myself or take the chance of never having my own natural child.

My question is at what age should I stop the search for Mr. Right and find a good sperm donor instead? Any suggestions? Prayers are also freely excepted.

Michelle answers:

What I recommend is that you pray on it. Ask the Lord to tell you whether your calling is to have biological kids or not. It could be that His plan for you is to mother beautiful children that need mommies. Or it could be that your life partner is right around the corner. I thought my plan was to be a single mom and planned on pursuing adoption as soon as I finished my degree. About a week after I gave myself that “deadline”, I met Mr. Right (this was after constant dating with the purpose of finding a husband for about 5 years straight). So you never know.

Whatever His plan is for you, He will reveal it, if you ask. It just may not be when you expect it or in the way you expect it.

Good luck.

David asks…

Why is it so easy for her?

So my friend has a 8 year old son and triplet 4 year old boys (all natural i must add, she’s a double egg dropper) and the want a girl so last month or so she went of the pill and WHAMO prego again. Shes waiting for her HCG levels because her belly is very distended and shes sick, Just like when she was prego with the triplets. So do you think she’s gonna have 3 more, and why is is so easy for her and other people like me have to do ivf and jump through hoops??
Hey my friend got her hcg levels back they are 1,100 at 4 weeks prego, I think theres 3 more!!!!

Michelle answers:

It just depends on the woman, really. Some are more fertile than others.

Michael asks…

Why is Yahoo such a homophobic website?

This answer of mine was deleted…

Question Details: The nature vs. nurture debate, and if it IS a learned sexual identity, can it be unlearnt? Can gays become straight and straights become gay? To Rene O…Being gay is not a practice…do you practice being straight?

Deleted Answer: well i think that your surroundings impact whether you are able to identify your feelings as “gay” feelings and choose accept yourself and be gay. i know that ive always been attracted to girls my whole life, even when i was 12 i wanted to kiss the prettiest girl haha. after being with boys ive always felt violated and wrong. i think it is a preference that you are born with but your surroundings impact how you translate those emotions. and to the last two people who commented. honestly, you are morons. people once thought being left handed was a disease. almost every species has reports of homosexual bahaviour. besides whether it is natural or not, does it hurt you? are we impacting the population by having same-sex partners? well not anymore, thanks to the abolition of laws made by ignorant pricks like you which made us unable to have children via IVF. and by the way… homosexual is not a disease or condition, homophobia however is. you do the maths

Now i don’t think that was too harsh, considering i was merely standing up for my own rights… however i constantly see homophobic answers and just disgusting perverted answers which never get deleted. including 2 on the answer i retaliated to which got my answer deleted.

fuck you yahoo
it was deleted because yahoo said it breached the rules !!!

so f u c k i n g laaame

Michelle answers:

A question can be deleted for two reasons. 1) If a “trusted reporter” reports it as abuse, it’s deleted without Yahoo even looking at it. 2) If someone from the YA moderation team sees it and doesn’t like it, they’ll delete it. (1) happens rather more often than (2). If I were to guess, I’d say yours is a case of #1. You can appeal it, but I’d be it will be denied.

“and to the last two people who commented. Honestly, you are morons.”

This is why. YA is very sensitive to comments that even mention other posters. I’ve had answers deleted because I said “I agree with the first answer”, even though I went on to comment further. YA also makes it a point that you may not call other posters names, even if those names fit. Your use of the word “moron” here would be sufficient grounds for them to delete it.

Please note that I am not judging you for this. I’ve had answers deleted for exactly the same reason, so this is the Voice of Experience talking. I’ve learned to couch the same sentiments in words that don’t trip alarms. I’d recommend that path to you.

For what it’s worth, technically this question could be deleted as well, because you quoted the “offending” passage. I suspect it won’t be, as generally the people who post on LGBT aren’t quite that anal-retentive, but we do get others trolling through here from time to time. Lame? Yeah. But it’s their ball and their yard, so they make the rules. Sorry.

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Induction

Mark asks…

Nurse Practitioner is trying to force an induction?

I have had a very uncomplicated, boring, normal pregnancy. My blood pressure is fine, I quit smoking, my glucose is perfect, and my weight gain is right where it should be. The baby’s heartbeat has always been strong and healthy, plenty of movement, etc.

I do have Medicaid, unfortunately, through no fault of my own. This baby is a surprise, and I found out I was pregnant the same day I lost my job back home.

My nurse practitioner has gone from Mary Poppins to Josef Mengele, though. Why? Because I expressed a desire to deliver at a local hospital instead of driving an hour and a half (if not longer, depending on Houston traffic) to deliver at UTMB Galveston. I was always told it was “preferred” not “mandatory” that I deliver at UTMB, so I was thinking I had an option.

Nope. Apparently not.

I just hit 34 weeks, and at my visit on Tuesday, when I asked the nurse practitioner about giving me a copy of my records so I can register at a local hospital, she went off on me.

She told me I was high risk (um, since when and why am I high risk?) and that I knew this whole time that I have to deliver at Galveston. When I told her the issue is that I didn’t want to put up with an hour and 1/2 to two hours stuck in traffic while in active labor, she said, “Well, in that case, at your 36 weeks appointment, if you’ve dilated at all, we’re going to send you down to Galveston for an induction immediately.”

When I told her, “No, I don’t want to induce, especially not that early, I want natural labor,” she then threatened to call CPS on me for child endangerment if I didn’t go through with an induction. She said she would also call the state if she found out I waited until I was in active labor and went to a different hospital.

What can I do? I know this can’t possibly be legal, and no other OB will take me right now because of how far along I am. However, the hospital I want to deliver at does take Medicaid, so could I deliver at that hospital anyway? Help!

Michelle answers:

What is wrong with that woman!? I’m so sorry you had to go through that, she sounds downright horrible. I really think you should report her before she can report you- it might save some other pregnant women the stress of dealing with her, too.

Where you have your baby is your own personal decision and it seems wise to me to want to have your baby in a nearby hospital, having to travel almost two hours sounds stressful and very unwise, it sounds as though you’re completely in the right.

The fact she wants to induce you a month early is completely out of order, too, I’m pleased you put your foot down over the matter because a more shy person may have just bowed to her strange wishes. Have you tried calling other OBs, explaining your situation and seeing if they can take you on in this case, it being so important you receive proper healthcare? It could be worth a try!

Best of luck to you and your baby, and maybe it’s a little late to say, but congratulations on your pregnancy 🙂

Jenny asks…

Blood Pressure ? during pregnancy?

Okay so my last doc appt my BP was a little high. I have a history of off and on high blood pressure and had high blood pressure beginning of pregnancy but went away for couple months now back.. never took any meds for it.
My question is it possible to have high blood pressure and not develop preeclampsia in pregnancy??
Also if I do happen to develop it and get induced… how many people ended up with a c-section or vaginal delivery? Because I am fine with the induction but I really dont want a c-section I want to go all natural no drugs for delivery..
If it matter much I am 28 1/2 weeks… My next appt is at 30 weeks and they are going to see how my BP doing then.

Michelle answers:

In had pre eclampsia with my 3rd baby and was induced at 38 weeks, i had a completely natural vaginal delivery. It depends tho, if you are already dilated to say 2cm(as i was) they can just break your waters to induce you. If you arent dilated they give you gel and leave it to ripen your cervix (they can do this twice) then with either scenario they wait a bit for contractions to start, if they dont they give you a drip to make them. If that fails and your contractions wont regulated and you arent dilating you may end up with a cesarian. After having my waters broken my contractions started with in 20 minutes and i didnt need a drip. But a friend of mine went to be induced and it went no where and she ended up with a c section. It very much depends on the baby and your body. Her baby was too big. And with the blood pressure the doctor is less likely to be overly alarmed if you had high blood pressure previously. If they detect other markers like protien in your urine then it may be pre eclapsia. If you get dizzy, nauseous, see spots, shoulder blade pain, indegestion pain then you should see your doctor as these are also markers for pre eclapsia. Good Luck and Sorry for it being so long!

Michael asks…

Growth scans & static growth in last weeks of pregnancy? Anyone else been monitored?

I am 36 weeks pregnant & have been placed under the care of a consultant at the hospital (rather than midwifery led care) because at 28 weeks to 31 weeks my fundus measurement had only increased by 1cm. I was below the 10th centile (was measuring 27cm at 31 weeks) growth scans have been done every 2 weeks since. From 31 weeks to 33 weeks the growth leapt from 27cm to 31cm which made baby bang on the 50th centile! I thought that was big…but then at 35 weeks a growth scan showed just a weight gain from 2112g at 33 weeks to 2224g at 35 weeks! The consultant has been doing regular CTG’s and Liquor volume & doppler scans in between.

Baby is VERY active, Im constantly monitoring his movements but the consultant warned me that if next weeks growth scan doesnt show some growth he will have to consider inducing me & hes going to pull the plug on my arranged homebirth!

Im GUTTED! Has anyone else ever had to be monitored like this & how did your birth start? induction? spontaneous?
Obviously my babys health during labour & delivery is paramount to me but Im finding all this rather confusing & am not sure where this situation will end. All answers will be appreciated

*This is my 2nd child, I had a natural homebirth to a 6lb 11.5oz baby girl 4 years ago, fundal height measurements on her pregnancy were consist but always just below the 10th centile.

Michelle answers:

It sounds to me like the doctor was going overboard. My babies were all average to small and I gained minimum and they stayed small. We had a OBGYN who is a bit more laid back, especially considering I could tell her that babies in both families were small to average size.

All children grow in spurts – even in the womb.

My first boy was a week late, 7lbs 5 oz, my second boy was five days early 6lb 10 oz. That’s not tiny, but I never looked more than six months prego and the measurements were low.

Think twice about this percentile too – it stacks you against american average, right? Americans are typically overweight and have overweight babies because of the unhealthy foods they eat. 10th percentile may be closer to the 50th percentile for small, healthy eating mothers.

Maria asks…

When did your doctor schedule an induction?

I am due August 5th, my doctor is already talking inductions with me. She typically does them at 41 weeks. I have read that standard with a normal healthy pregnancy is 42 weeks. But I have many friends who were induced early. I would like to have our bundle of joy as natural as possible and was wondering how other doctors have handled over due babies. I also know that I have a while before she will induce but I would like to let her know ahead of time if I choose not to induce at 41 weeks.

Thanks All!

Michelle answers:

Having your induction at 41 weeks is an OPTION. If you want to wait until you’ve passed 42 weeks, tell your doctor that you want to wait and have her schedule it for the day you are 42 weeks. Induction medications sometimes make having a natural birth (without epidural) difficult if not impossible. The longer you wait for an induction, the more successful it is. The doctor will often just do a non-stress test to check to make sure the placenta is fine.

BTW, you can refuse an induction period, even if you have passed 42 weeks, but unless your family has a history of long gestation, I do agree that the data supports not going beyond 42 weeks as problems with placentas do increase.

Your Questions About What Is The Oldest Natural Pregnancy

John asks…

Mom of twins? I have alot of questions for you! :)?

So I went to an utrasound today, and I found out I was pregnant with twins! Im 13 weeks along and very excited.. but I have so many questions!!

How old are your twins now? What week in your pregnancy did you deliver them? Did you have a natural birth or c-section? How much weight did you gain? When did you find out the genders? How many ultrasounds did you have? Did you have any complications? What were the first few weeks like? How much did your little angels weigh at birth?

Also anything else you would like to add is very much appreciated! Thanks so much for answering! 🙂

Michelle answers:

Okay here goes LOL

My twins are 6 1/2 years old
I delivered them at 31weeks 6days
C Section
48 lbs
I found out the genders at 18 weeks (Identical twin boys)
I had tons of ultrasounds (due to complications)
I had a lot of complications
1st month, my kids were in the NICU, had to run back and forth to the hospital and home
Kaleb weighed 3 lbs 10 oz
Kurt weighed 3 lbs 14 oz

Hope this helps. Oh,and just to ease your mind, I had lots of complications but my cousin who also had twins 10 months after me didn’t have any problems. She had hers at 35 weeks I believe, they were in the NICU for a few days and she had a vaginal birth. So, just enjoy. Twins are so much fun.

Paul asks…

What are my chances of carrying a healthy baby fullterm ?

Okay so here is the deal…. I am almost 26 years old and I have both Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Endometritis in the last 6 years I have had 4 pregnancy the first pregnancy was a first term natural miscarriage in 2002, second one was a first term missed abortion and the doctor had to do a D&C in 2005, my 3rd pregnancy I could not get pregnant on my own and had to take a gondatrophin Gonal F….I found out I was pregnant the 2nd cycle everything was looking wonderful until I hit 21 weeks when they could not catch any facial images of the baby….they did a 3-D ultrasound and it showed clefting of the upper and lower cleft palate, absence of the nose, left eye didn’t form although he did have two eye sockets and they had me do an MRI to check to see that the babys brain was growing correctly…which they said the MRI showed wasn’t so I had to make the hardest decision of my life whether to bring my son into this world as a vegetable with several surgeries in his future as well as possible blindness, cerebaral palsy or mental retardation for my own self reason of wanting a child so very badly or have my labor induced at 5 mnths of pregnancy and let him rest in peace with no pain in his future….so I gave birth to my son in Dec. 2007 letting him fly in Heaven as an Angel to God….I again failed to pregnant on my own and this time had been put on a human dna Gondatrophin Menopur and got pregnant the first cycle….my HCG levels looked awesome really high but when I went for my 8 wk ultrasound the baby had no heartbeat….I miscarried on my own Aug. 2008 — I would of been 13 weeks along. What I don’t get is why I can’t carry a baby to full term… they have done all these DNA test on both my husband and I and they say there is absolutely no reason why I shouldn’t be able to carry a baby to full term as we are both compatiable. So what are my chances of carrying a healthy baby fullterm….should I give up hope of ever becoming a mother?

Saralizzie sad in Ohio

Michelle answers:

Wow! First i wanted to tell you how sorry i am for you, having to go thru what you have…i have PCOS as well, and i don’t think it can cause the physical abnormalities that your lil angel had…but i am not sure…i think that was just one of those things that happens and unfortunately it happened to you… I tried to conceive for 10 years with no success, until i met a docor who diagnosed me with PCOS and put me on Metformin and Clomid to get pregnant…it worked after only two cycles… I gave birth to a healthy baby boy 3 years ago…a nd then as fate would have it, i became pregnant all on my own with identical twins, due in april. So no, please don’t give up hope, ever! You will have the baby you were meant to have, you just haven’t gotten there yet… Waiting for it is the hard part… But when you finally have your baby, it will be the most wanted baby that was ever born! 🙂

Ruth asks…

Boob question…..prob TMI..please help me out and tell me what you think?

ok..there a very good chance i could be pregnant right now but it is too early to test. So, I was wondering….I have very big blue/green/purple looking veins on my boobs, my nipples/areolas are brown and i can see the veins clearly though them. My boobs are also very achy when i touch them. I am 7-10DPO. Im not sure if theyve gotten bigger bc i am already a d cup, maybe a little heavier.

Would there be any reason this would happen if I wasn’t pregnant?

(back story…Had a natural miscarriage at 5 weeks on oct 5 no D&C HCG was less than 2 days later, felt like I ovulated around the 24, it was my second pregnancy, i also have a 2.5 yr old)

Michelle answers:

Well not ever having boob problems myself, I have it on good authority from others that there are many reasons for boobs doing as you described. Everything from your cycle to water retension can cause the symtoms. Also bare in mind where you just miscarried your body is going through a type of post pregnancy. So there is a possibility they could just be swollen mamery glands. Which is more indicative to post pregnancy rather then first stages of pregnancy. Typically it takes a couple of months of pregnancy before breasts begin to have pregnancy symtoms

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Helen asks…

What’s your opinion….?

on Clomid purchased online? Has anyone tried this and did it work for you. I have tried so many natural remedies and been on Femera before. My specialist told me there was nothing else she could do and I woulkd never get PG. I want to try this but wanted some opinions. I have PCOS and a history of fibroids (removed and never came back) and mild endometriosis. My regular GYNO said Clomid would be the nex step after the Femara but then I jumped the gun and went to a specialist and he is no longer in my coverage. Please only serious answers; and no “go to the Dr”; this was what he wanted to do next but she only wanted to go straight to IVF; which we CANNOT afford.

Michelle answers:

I am surprised you did not start clomid first. I was on it with my first two pregnancies. Usually you take it for 3 months and go off for three months. Clomid on-line should be the same as from the pharmacy. The first problem here is a Dr. Told you that you would never get PG, I hope you do not believe that.
I know you said you have tried natural remedies, but for how long? A friend of mine that has PCOS has been trying for 8 years and 3 IVFs latter and no kiddies. She just started taking MACA and has had her first natural cycle. She decided to take a break from all the chemicals and is doing much better. Some suggestions are: foot zones, acupuncture, hypnosis (http://www.biotherapy-clinic.com/custom_cd.html) Another friend of mine just conceived twins using a hypno. Cd from him. Dealing with fertility is a emotional roller coaster, but when we figure out our bodies and what it is lacking pregnancy happens…
Best Wishes

Charles asks…

IUI is this finally the answer we’ve been looking for?

Well before you say that you don’t know let me clear up what I’m asking. I’m looking for POSITIVE answers because I’m at my wicks end. I’m really fed up seeing friend after friend get pregnant (I have 18 friends who are either pregnant or had a baby within the last 6 months) and I get negative test after negative test. I get so depressed even thinking about taking a test now. I’m 25 and he’s 27.

Today I just had my second clomid check and my husband did a semen analysis and no baby. He has problems with the semen that can get a woman pregnant (apparently there are more than one types of semen mixed in there) but overall his count is normal.
Because of this the fertility dr suggested we try IUI along with Femara. I already have the Femara prescription so…. step one is done.
But all of this fertility stuff is SO depressing because I have honestly tried EVERYTHING (except IUI and IVF or adoption).
So far I’ve tried switching my diet (with the help of Cooking to Concieve), taking my prenatal vitamins regularly, Vitex, Clomid, a ClearBlueEasy Ovulation predictor kit (which was $200!), doing day 3 and 23 tests at the drs to make sure I’m ovulating (which both proved I was) then we have sex every other day from days 10-20 (and everyday around ovulation), a Fertility test (from First Response- which came back positive). I got my husband some vitamins too, I got a laptop cooler for his laptop, I also advised his to stop putting his phone in his pocket. We’ve even tried prayer and I got this book called (Super Natural Childbirth) Well, you get the point. I mean we’ve been trying for about 14-15 months now and I just cant seem to get pregnant.
This month we are going to take a break so that I wont loose my mind. I’m excited about the break from peeing on things and checking mucus and whatever. I’m really just tired. My friend told me she was pregnant the other day and I burst into tears! Not that I wasn’t happy for her but just so unhappy with the way things have been going for me. I mean, she JUST told me LAST MONTH that she wanted a baby- her and her husband just got married 2 months ago- and now POOF she’s pregnant! So no, I’m not hating on her I just wish that things wouldn’t be so difficult for me and my husband!

So, I need to know some stories of IUI and whether or not it actually worked for people. How many times did it take?
Please no negative responses. I’ve already gotten enough bad news. 🙁

Michelle answers:

I wanted to say that I know how you feel. I knew 32 people that were pregnant at the same point in time, and now they have all just had their babies. It is really hard to see everyone else having babies when you know you have been trying longer, have been married longer, or are more ready for one yourself.

If you really want a baby, IUI could work for you as it is the next step. After searching through bunches of sites, it costs about 500 dollars on average per time, and it raises your chances on an average from 10 to 20 percent, and up to 25 since you have both follicles. They say that after trying 3 times and not getting pregnant, the next step is to move onto IVF.

You can have a baby if you keep trying, it just may take a while longer still. Try and remain positive and remember that no matter how long you wait, your perfect baby is waiting for you and when you get pregnant it will be at the perfect time. You should feel lucky that you and your husband are really prepared for a baby and really know you want one because it will make the experience better.

Mary asks…

Pregnancy & endometriosis, any advise?

We have been trying to conceive for 6yrs, I was diagnosed in 2008 with endometriosis, I had surgery to have it removed, I know it never goes, the Gyne said to start straight away and we did. It’s now over two years later we still have not conceived, I use ovulation tests every month and am doing all the right things I’ve been told by my GP & Gyne. I am getting very frustrated now as I’m 38 and would love to have a baby before I turn 40.
I’m due back to my Gyne in two weeks to see if we can do anything else, IVF is to expensive so that’s out. Have any of you ladies conceived and gave endometriosis? I had a baby when I was very young, perfect precinct no complications and natural labour no compilations. (this was 19yrs ago)
Thank you Dr Doyle for that link but we have been using Ovulation test, I’ve been charting my cycle to ensure we are getting my ovulation date correct, any more advise would be appreciated. I suffer from period pains all of the time and intercourse is painful, bowel movement are painfulI ,think the endometriosis may be back!! What do you think?

Your Questions About Natural Pregnancy Test

Joseph asks…

i dun 2 pregnancy tests, and they were possitive went doctors today, bt isit natural to have pains ?

Just wana kno if it is normal to have crampin and pains

Michelle answers:

Cramping in early pregnancy is normal. Your uterus is expanding and your ligamens may be being pulled on as well. As long as there is no bleeding assoicated with the cramping, I wouldn’t worry.

Laura asks…

When can I take a pregnancy test?

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome and had my first natural period in almost a year and a half that ended around May 30th. I followed my predicted fertility cycle, assuming that I ovulated, to have sex with my husband spacing intercourse out within the time frame to give us each a little rest like we are supposed to. About a week after my fertility cycle, I had about 3 days of very light bleeding which could’ve been implantation bleeding. When should I take a test? I don’t have a normal period so I am lost!! Please help!

Michelle answers:

14days after your missed peorid, or 14 days after having sex

Ken asks…

Is it natural to not have your period for 2 months?

I haven’t been on birth control since March 2005. That was the last time i had gotten a depo needle.I haven’t had my period for 2 whole months, and it is really scary.I went to the doctor and the pregnancy test came out negative. Is this normal?

Michelle answers:

Are you using a different type of birth control? How old are you? Have you had unprotected sex?
These answers would have been helpful. Continue getting pregnancy tests if your period doesn’t come.
That happened to me and I miscarried. The pregnancy tests were negative, but it was a very early pregnancy.
If you don’t want to get pregnant, find a birth control and definitely use condoms.

Sharon asks…

my period is 4 days late and i took a pregnancy test this afternoon it was negative?

i took a HPT today from boots at about 5.30pm and it came out negative. i am now in day 32 of my cycle, my cycles have never been longer than 30 days and are usually 28-29 days long.
i am quite worried i could be pregnant even though i had a negative test result because i read in other places that people have had false negatives even when their period was overdue (i didnt do it in the morning!)
i have been using natural family planning for a few months now (the standard days method) but i have also used the pull-out method on the “unsafe days”. im worried maybe i got pregnant during those days or maybe i ovulated late this month making my cycle longer, which is bad too because if i go into day 33 of my cycle the standard days method is completely worthless.

i dont know what to do im really confused should i take another test or wait? and if it turns out im not pregnant do i go and see the doctor about being late or just wait for it to come?

Michelle answers:

Wow, I feel a duty to answer this question to respond to some of the ignorant answers on here.

First of all, yes, you absolutely could tell if you are pregnant by taking a home pregnancy test around the time that you expected your period. The egg & sperm meet within a day of ovulation and implantation takes place around 5-7 days later. When implantation happens, it triggers the body to produce hcg, which is the hormone tested by a home pregnancy test.

Now, home pregnancy tests all have different levels of sensitivity. Some can detect a level so small that you could identify pregnancy within a couple of days of implantation, but most need the body to build up the hcg supply in the body before a hpt can detect it. That is also why most pregnancy tests advise you to use the first morning urine, because the hcg is the most concentrated at that time.

Now to answer you question:

You should wait another 5 days and retest. The problem with the standard days method of NFP is that it is completely calendar based and as you are finding out now for yourself, if you ovulate late for any reason, it makes the method worthwhile. I know that there are many women who successfully can use this method, but in my opinion it is risky. You are basically expecting your body to ovulate on the same day every month and personal experience tells us that that is simply not the case. Every woman goes through fluctuations in her monthly cycle due to stress, illness, travel, or just for no discernible reason whatsoever.

At this point, it is highly likely that you ovulated late in your cycle, which is why you are testing negative on the pregnancy test. There are three scenarios at this point:
1. You ovulated late but did not get pregnant. You are currently in the normal luteal phase of your cycle and your period will come the normal 12-16 days after ovulation.
2. You ovulated late in your cycle and are pregnant, but it is too early to measure the pregnancy by HPT or blood pregnancy test. You will have to wait and test every 5 days or so to see when you test positive.
3. You did not ovulate at all and your body is in a state of confusion. You may still ovulate or you may have a breakthrough bleeding episode where you spot a light or medium amount for a few days but do not have your normal period. If this is the first time this has ever happened, it is probably nothing to worry about, but if it happens with any regularity then it’s something to talk to your doctor about.

Even if you are no longer able to use the SDM for natural family planning, I would encourage you to do some research into other areas of NFP. A method that uses cervical mucus or temperatures would be far more accurate and would give you clues when you have long cycles such as this one as to what is happening with your body. For example, if you were charting your temperatures, then you might have noticed that you didn’t ovulate until day 19. That would mean that your next cycle would not begin until around day 33. You would not have had these days of worry and stress because you would have already known that your period would be delayed. Other NFP methods can also adjust if you have a cycle over 32 days, any other method would not be worthless due to a blip like this one. Because you are not judging your body with an expectation that you will ovulate around the same time every month, you are better able to adjust as needed and still use NFP with a high level of effectiveness.

I second the recommendation to read “Taking Charge of Your Fertility” or look for an NFP class in your area. Standard Days method is great… Until it isn’t, such as a cycle like this one! Good luck!

Chris asks…

things to (or not to) eat/drink during early labour?

what are some good things to eat or things to completely stay away from when in early labour? this is my second pregnancy, and I have plans to eat and drink for as long as I feel comfortable. I’m having a drug free natural childbirth, so there won’t be any complications between foods and meds. any old wives tales out there? what about cold and hot foods how would they affect you…

what did you find easy to digest or somewhat therapeutic to eat during the early stages of labour?

Michelle answers:

Its better to eat and drink as long as you feel comfortable because you need energy for labor. No caffeine though. Water, Gatorade, Juice, Clear liquids. Don’t eat anything too heavy. Maybe crackers and cheese, Cereal, soup, sandwich, because remember sometimes you can get sick and throw it back up and I think the last thing you want in labor is a tummy ache as well. So eat things that YOU know don’t make your stomach upset, are nutritious and light.

Helen asks…

Is it safe to consume Slenda Lean weight loss shakes during lactation based on the following ingredients?

I have recently had a baby girl who is now currently 3 month’s old. I really want to lose all the pregnancy weight, especially the belly fat. And a friend of mine recommended Slenda Lean weight loss smoothies, which he has said works great for weight loss. I do breastfeed full time and i wanted to know if it would cause any side effects to the baby? The smoothies are to replace any ONE meal of the day.

What are the risks of taking these smoothies during lactation?

The container says this on the back aside from the ingredients:

“This product contains caffeine, which may cause insomnia, trembling, anxiety, palpitations, urinary frequency, and hyperactivity. Caffeine containing products should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.”

INGREDIENTS CONTAINED:

Ingredients: Safflower oil complex, dipotassium phosphate, mono and diglycerides, lecithin, tocopherols (to help protect flavor), natural flavor, and less than 2% silicon dioxide (anticaking agent)], soy protein isolate with isoflavones, fructose, soy protein concentrate, cellulose gum, xanthan gum, carrageenan), salt, silica,, Thermogenic and Metabolic Blend: green tea leaf extract, yerba mate, raspberry keytones and cocoa.

Michelle answers:

Congratulations on your brand new baby

i would consult a doctor first, only because it says: This product contains caffeine, which may cause insomnia, trembling, anxiety, palpitations, urinary frequency, and hyperactivity. Caffeine containing products should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation.”

When you think about it, they put warnings on there for a reason. For example, they don’t put a warning on juice or cordial, because it’s safe for pregnancy and lactation, so anything with a warning, i would stay away from.
There are other ways of losing preagancy weight, you can work out when bubs asleep, there are yoga moves to do, incorprating bubs(look on internet), push bubs in a pram and walk.
Also be careful when dieting while breatfeeding, you need to take care of yourself, because you give bubs the nutrients, not anyone else
goodluck

Nancy asks…

Open question to teen babysitters, people with kids?

My niece (I call her that, but she’s my cousin’s daughter) is being raised in a household with lots of arguments and little parental involvement. She’s only two but instead of juice, she’s given cola, and nobody seems to think anthing is wrong with that. The TV is left on all the time and she is hardly ever read to. She is a naturally curious and inquisitive child but I’m afraid that she will turn out like her older cousin who eats too much junk food and watches TV all the time, literally. Her parents aren’t abusive but on the other hand they don’t seem to care about her development very much.(Her mother’s pregnancy was not planned.) I am only 16 and would feel akward suggesting parenting tips. I pray for her all the time. Every time I go over to see her I get depressed. Should I just continue trying to be a good influence- reading to her and feeding her natural food and praising her efforts or…what?

Michelle answers:

Yes, just continue to be a good role model in her life. It is a shame she is living the life she is, but at your age, what you are already doing is all you can do. The older you get, the more you may be able to do for her. Keep up the good work, she is lucky to have you!

Your Questions About Natural Ivf

Laura asks…

Deep question about woman with wrong embryo implanted?

So most of us on this board will agree that babies belong with their natural mother (except in cases of abuse, etc), and that babies suffer when taken away from their natural mothers (as illustrated in “The Primal Wound”).
I am sure you all know about that lady who is about to give birth to a baby that was the result of a botched IVF, a mixup where another couple’s embryo was implanted in her uterus. They are going to give the baby to his biological parents right at the birth.
I guess my question is, what is better? I do think the baby should be with whom he is genetically related, of course. But at the same time he has bonded with the lady who is carrying him, knows her heartbeat, her scent, etc…
What do you think about this???

Michelle answers:

Oh, I don’t invest much in the PW, personally.

I’d have wanted to be with my MOTHER, the real one, no matter what.

What sick about all of this is that it didn’t have to happen. This was created by GREED, like so many other adoption stories, since I’m guessing the bios will have to adopt their own child legally.

The pregnant woman already had 3 kids–not enough, I guess. When you’re playing God in a high stakes fertilization, what can you really expect? I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more!

Linda asks…

RE: IVF, If a fertilized embryo is frozen for 5 years then inseminated, surely the baby would have problems?

Does anyone else think IVF is just not natural?

I mean, sperm and egg weren’t meant to last outside of the Human Body for too long…yet scientists are now playing God by mixing sperm+egg in a Petri Dish, then freezing them for 5+ years…and then the couple decides years down the track to insert the embryo into the woman?

Surely there must be some long-term effects on the baby? Would a baby grow up “normal” if it had actually been frozen for 5 years before?! It just doesn’t seem right/natural and is not the way God intended couples to conceive!

Having children is NOT a right! If you are barren…then tough. That is your lot in life.

Michelle answers:

Do you have any actual unbiased data to back up your claims. The research shows that ivf babies come out fine the majority of the time. Those that don’t is from genetics or heredity, not ivf. It’s true, do some research. Also, scientists are playing god by prolonging life by deterring cancer, adding preservatives to food, finding a cure for smallpox.i could go on but you get my point. So by your theory, i’m assume you’re not taking any medicine when you’re sick and only eating fresh foods grown in a garden.

It’s best to do research before making such unfound claims.

Mandy asks…

Ladies what would you do…guys, what do you think…?

I’ve been in my relationship for almost four years now & when we met I really thought this was it for me…the trouble I have is that I have always wanted to get married & have kids, unfortunately I can’t hae kids by natural methods as I do not produce any eggs but could have a child by egg donor & IVF. I told my partner this when we met & he seemed upset by it, especially as his ex had the same problem (she had had a procedure but didn’t want to reverse it), & this was one of the reasons that they split because she already had 2 kids from a previous relationship & he felt that he may want his own one day but she refused to reverse the procedure. We talked about what the hypothetical options would be but that was it, especially as we started out in a long distance realtionship. We also never really talked about marriage as I didn’t want to scare him off early on. We moved in after 2 years (I moved 200 miles from family & friends to be with him & have now been here 2 years). Sadly in the last year & a half the subject of marriage has been brought up by me after a couple of drinks (dutch courage) & I then discovered that he did not want to get married. I was extremely upset by this but hoped that he woudl eventually change his mind…four years in he still feels the same. He never talks about our realtionship future and prefers to spend his time gaming on the x-box non-stop, all his free time is spent on there. We do go out occasionally to maybe the cinema & for something to eat but that’s it. We never do anything else together, he is not at all romantic, something I hoped he may have the urge to do once we had been together for a period of time in which he may have those urges, but nothing!! I have hinted countless times on romantic trips & then even blatantly told him, but he’s not interested!! In light of all this, am I wasting my time here??? Is this something that I can build a future on?? Should I even bother hopnig he’ll change his mind?? We have had a few rows over it, but have also talked about it at times. I am 32 & feel as though I do not have anymore time to waste waiting for him to propose and to grow up enough to be responsible for a child!! We had a row/talk about it last week & he said he was not that bothered for marriage & kids & that could take it or leave it, to which I was stunned..but not really as I already knew he felt this way…but in the same breath said that we needed to go to a specialist hospital to get the ball rolling. Would I be mad to go ahead with it with my partner or should I get out now while I’m still young enough to meet someone who does want the same thing as me & will tend to me the way I feel I deserve to be…??? I would not want to push him into marriage & kids as he could end up resenting me for it & if I settle I will definitely resent him for it!! I also feel as though one day in the near-ish future I may want to move back to be nearer to family as I am more family orientated than he is & want to be near my family as my parents grow old & to be there for them, & I do not think he would be willing to do that for me….I could be wrong but I feel that if I ask him this & he says no that that will be it, over!
Thank you for your answers everybody, you have confirmed my thoughts and feelings on the matter! I just need to work on doing something about it now!! x

Michelle answers:

He has everything he wants. He has a regular sex partner, a best friend to do cool things with, a wonderful companion, etc.

He has no incentive to marry you.

What would he be getting from you that he doesn’t already have?

Gals, I hope you’re reading this. If marriage is what you want, don’t shack up with a guy until you get married to him.

Now look what’s happened in this case. He has all the power!

You need to let him go and find someone who DOES want to get married to you instead of trying to change the mind of this guy.

Sandra asks…

Infertile and treatment options as a Catholic?

I’ve been informed there’s an approximately 98.7% chance I won’t ever be able to have children through the natural method. I’m not exactly sterile, but it’ll still be nearly impossible for me to have kids. I am a Catholic, and come from a Catholic family who attend mass frequently. I’ve asked a priest a bit about this but It feels like he doesn’t want to touch the subject with a twenty feet pole out of fear of misinforming me. I’d like to eventually have kids and not worry about going against my Church’s teaching but I don’t know of many options. I know the Church is explicitly against IVF and similar procedures. I’m honestly not a devout Catholic but the rest of my family is. I wouldn’t want to have to leave the Church in order to start a family but I probably would… Please note that I also do want to adopt, especially because of this. I know it seems so selfish of me but please be realistic in answering me this question, all of you: Would you have a long term relationship with an individual incapable of having children? How many of you wouldn’t care that your spouse can’t have kids; leaving you without any biological kids of your own. I’m sorry if I come across as a shallow ass. I just don’t meet many women who never want to have kids of their own.

Michelle answers:

It’s between you and your partner. Honestly, the church and your family should stay out of it. Why would you want advice on reproductive health from a bunch of old men who have never had sex.
